The answer isn't easy, but it is yes. Breaking down the AFC's road to a championship means comparing Pittsburgh to the conference's best. It doesn't mean they have to have a better roster or better coaching, but it does mean they have to be able to compete with every team at the top. Well, if anyone knows how he's doing as much as anyone, it's the players catching passes from him this offseason. Not that a 38 second video is shouting confidence, but JuJu Smith-Schuster saying "stay tuned" isn't the only source of belief. Diontae Johnson told Steelers media earlier this week that he has big plans for his first full season with Roethlisberger. "I talk to him almost every day now," Johnson said on his relationship with Roethlisberger. "That's my guy. We got big things to do this year. We're trying to win the Super Bowl together."But Big Ben week didn't start off with Johnson. During Steelers virtual OTAs, Minkah Fitzpatrick spoke on his expectations for the Hall of Fame quarterback. "I expect him to be Ben Roethlisberger," Fitzpatrick said. "He's a great player, a big playmaker. But also I seen throughout last year, that just being around the team and not even on the field, that he's a great leader and great man. A dude that I like being around, I like hearing from. He's got a lot of experience and a lot of wisdom to share."Noah discusses this and more on why fans should feel optimistic about Roethlisberger's return during this week's episode of 10 Minute Takes.Follow AllSteelers and Noah Strackbein on Twitter for all Steelers content and updates. 10 Minute Takes is produced by Grunza Made It.

But it wasn't necessarily Smith-Schuster's fault. Working with two backup quarterbacks, and an offensive gameplan that kept him away from big play possibilities, there wasn't much room to make things happen in 2019. So where does that leave him this season? Well, with the return of Ben Roethlisberger and the additions of Chase Claypool and Eric Ebron, it's certainly something to talk about. Now, we're headed towards the end of the first week of free agency and the Steelers have done as much, and more, than most teams around the league. So, what's next? With a third-round compensatory pick, the options are endless, which could change their entire draft plan as we know it. And When?Do the Steelers draft a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft? Yes. It makes too much sense to at least add another option to the mix. With little success coming from Mason Rudolph in 2019, even if his record doesn't indicate it, there's too much worry with the options on deck. The Steelers can't come out and sign a veteran option because of their cap situation. Therefore, their two options are add through the draft or go with what they have. Even if they've said they're comfortable with in-house players, there's too much risk to stay content when your defense is as strong as it is. If Pittsburgh is going to do what they need to to keep as much of that unit together as possible, they may as well have a few backup plans if Ben Roethlisberger can't play. So, will they draft a quarterback? Yes. The next question is when? It's not an exaggeration. The Pittsburgh Steelers won't become Super Bowl favorites with Devlin 'Duck' Hodges behind center, but they'll keep winning. At 6-5, fighting back from one of the craziest underdog stories the NFL has seen in recent memory, this team is only concerned about one thing - winning this week. Hodges is the type of player who's constantly concerned about the now, because to him, there is no tomorrow. Mike Tomlin said it himself that this is simply a "this week" solution that could carry towards the future. Which means Hodges is coming out trying to prove everything. He may not be a future Hall of Famer, but Duck Hodges is the best option for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The "spark" he provided against the Bengals wasn't a coincidence. Hodges has something about him that screams 'winner' and the Steelers need it. Mason Rudolph is struggling. The Steelers offense is playing even worse. At this point in the season, with only six games remaining, something should be clicking, but it's not. And maybe that's not totally the quarterbacks fault. With so much happening in Pittsburgh, it's impossible to point the blame in one direction. However, people seem to have deemed the backup quarterback the only reason the Steelers offense is unable to play well. The Pittsburgh Steelers aren't focused on any player defensively. The LA Rams bring a well-grounded group to Heinz Field, centered around a decent running game and one of the biggest breakout receivers in the NFL - Cooper Kupp. But talking to the players, they remind you how much talent in within this offense, how little one player actually impacts this game, and how a wide receiver isn't going to be the primary focus. With names like Todd Gurley and Jared Goff in the backfield, the Steelers have to worry about everyone, and shutting down people outside of Kupp will be how they stop the receiving game.
Bud Dupree has turned into one of the NFL's best edge rushers - just in the time. The outside linebacker is fighting for his contract and making enough impact to help turn this defense into one of the league's best. His 6 sacks and 2 forced fumbles are preparing him for a career season, leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers with a choice to make at the end of the year - how much money do they offer Dupree? There's a pretty clear cutoff between tiers of edge rushers in the NFL and the paychecks they receive each season. Dupree may be working himself up the list, but he still isn't surpassing some of the players who have earned major contracts over the last two years. It's clear what Dupree's contract should look like next season and the amount of money the Steelers should offer. Depending on if this performance continues for the rest of the year.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 2-4 and at any time can end their season. But somehow, there's still hope that there is enough "easy games" to keep their hopes alive. It's never been the Steelers strong suit to win games they should, but that outlook has changed. Not because they're fighting from behind, but because they've slowly prepared for this, and it's paying off now that they're living it.

Through six games we've seen a complete resume from Devin Bush. As a rookie, you're expected to make mistakes. Bush did. He was mentally wrong on a number of occasions through the Steelers' first four weeks - blowing coverage, being in the wrong spot, the usual rookie mishaps. Since then, he's been the best linebacker in Pittsburgh. In a group of T.J. Watt, a breakout Bud Dupree, and Vince Williams, Bush is playing better than anyone. His interception, fumble recovery and touchdown ended the Chargers' hopes of winning before the end of the first quarter. There are other defensive rookies playing well this season, but outside of maybe one, Devin Bush is the midseason Defensive Rookie of the Year.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have lost a Hall of Fame quarterback, then a backup, and a number of other pieces to the puzzle. Their 2-4 heading into the Bye Week. Right now, the season should be over. Yet, somehow, some way, there's still a constant thought that this season is far from over. How? That answer is very simple - the NFL hasn't changed that much.

Devlin Hodges didn't get drafted in the 2019 NFL Draft, or signed following it. The Samford quarterback was a stretch to make a 53-man roster this season, but after a crazy turn of events, he's in Pittsburgh. Now, he's looking at the biggest opportunity of his career.
Lamar Jackson has certainly improved since last season, and the Ravens 2-2 record through four games has plenty to do with the play of their young quarterback. But the losses may have more to do with how much this team has to rely on him than the wins. Lamar Jackson isn't necessarily the name that worries the Pittsburgh Steelers - Mark Ingram is.

Nick Vannett is a low-cost tight end who's spent most of his time in Seattle as a blocker. With a contract that ends in 2019, the Steelers have to have some sense as to whether or not they'll keep him around moving forward. With a desperate need at the position, Vannett makes an immediate impact for the offense. Vance McDonald remains an injury risk and with Xavier Grimble on IR and Zach Gentry underperforming, the Steelers needed to do something about the depth. 10 Minute Takes - part of the Three Rivers Podcast collection - brings you today's news and analysis in, you guessed it, ten minutes. The Pittsburgh Steelers are 0-3 with almost nothing positive to look at this season. It seems like this team has too much talent to play this poorly, which has put all attention on the coaches. So far, what we've seen is a group of guys who are causing more harm than good from behind the headset.10 Minute Takes - part of the Three Rivers Podcast collection - brings you today's news and analysis in, you guessed it, ten minutes.
