In this episode, I discuss a critical but often overlooked leadership skill: emotional recognition. High-performing leaders often fall into the trap of suppressing emotions in the name of productivity, but those buried feelings don't disappear they resurface in subtle, costly ways. This disconnect can even lead to a sense of burnout and loss of purpose, not from overwork, but from operating out of alignment with one's true self. The solution isn't becoming more emotional—it's becoming more aware. Emotional recognition, the ability to notice, name, and understand what you're feeling in real time, acts as a multiplier for effective leadership. I offer three practical ways to build this skill. Listen in to learn how to add these practices to your daily rhythms. Top 3 Takeaways: 1. Unrecognized emotions are already shaping your leadership. When you don't consciously identify what you're feeling, those emotions still influence your decisions, reactions, and communication often in ways that undermine your effectiveness. Emotions are data, not distractions. 2. Instead of suppressing feelings, strong leaders treat them like an internal dashboard. Emotional recognition simply naming and understanding what you feel helps you make clearer, more aligned decisions. 3. Small daily practices create powerful leadership shifts. Simple habits can dramatically improve how you show up, helping you lead with more intention, clarity, and authenticity. What does Jewish history—its incredible heaviness (Yom HaShoah and Yom HaZikaron) and its incredible inspiration (Yom Ha'atzmaut)—ask of me? Does the passage of time affect the answer to that question? We are 81 years from the Holocaust. We are in the midst of yet another war with Iran and its proxies. What is our current responsibility to the Shoah and to the State of Israel? If we choose to disengage from all this heaviness, if we choose to not make Jewish history our problem, if we choose just to live our lives in Greater Boston, send out kids to school, do our jobs, come home, call it a day, that choice is tempting. That choice is understandable. What is the cost of that choice? To grapple with these hard questions during this season of the three Yoms, we will examine two Talmudic stories from Ta'anit 23A. The first is the story of Choni who sees a man planting carob trees and asks how long it will take for the carob to be ready to eat? 70 years. Will you still be here in 70 years? No. But I inherited a world that had carob trees that had been planted by my ancestors, and I want to leave a world that has carob trees for my descendants. The second, on the heels of the first, has Choni waking up from a deep sleep of 70 years. When he wakes up, he goes to his old haunts, his home, his shul, his study hall, and no one recognizes him. He cries out: “I am Choni.” But he is invisible. Unseen. Unrecognized. Everybody he knew is dead. Nobody alive knows him. He dies of a broken heart, prompting the climactic rabbinic teaching: oh chavrutah oh mitutah. Give me community or give me death. So many questions:What is the meaning of each story? How do these two stories connect? The editors of the Talmud intentionally connect them. What do the two stories mean to the three Yoms and to our personal connection to Jewish history and to Jewish destiny? Can we plant for a future that we will not see?Can we live in a future in which we are not seen?
Text Dr. Lenz any feedback or questions The Hidden Fibromyalgia Epidemic: How Bias Leaves Millions Undiagnosed—and How AI Can HelpThe script explains fibromyalgia as a chronic, long-term condition marked by widespread pain, profound fatigue, cognitive difficulties (“fibro fog”), and related mood issues, affecting an estimated 2–4% of the U.S. population (7–14 million) but potentially far more due to underdiagnosis. It describes how the condition is often missed because it is “invisible,” lacks definitive objective tests, and commonly leaves patients in diagnostic limbo for about five years while being dismissed as stressed, depressed, or imagining symptoms. Although the 2016 American College of Rheumatology criteria rely on the Widespread Pain Index and Symptom Severity Score, the script argues diagnosis often fails at the moment clinicians don't suspect fibromyalgia—driven by longstanding gender and age stereotypes that frame it as a middle-aged women's disease. It highlights research showing that unbiased application of criteria yields a much closer gender split (about 59% female, 41% male), and that many more men report symptoms than receive diagnoses. The script centers on a study of over 21,000 pain-clinic patients who completed tablet questionnaires with a digital body map; an AI clustered pain patterns into nine groups and identified a “widespread heavy” cluster strongly associated with fibromyalgia, where patients were nearly 30 times more likely to have a fibromyalgia diagnosis than those with low back pain. Yet more than two thirds of patients flagged by the AI lacked a clinical fibromyalgia diagnosis; an objective “informatics proxy” applying the formal criteria found 66.3% of the widespread-heavy cluster met diagnostic criteria, while only 22.4% were diagnosed. The missed patients were more likely to be male and older, demonstrating diagnostic bias. Extrapolating from these findings, the script suggests the true U.S. population meeting criteria could be 21–42 million. It proposes integrating digital body maps and machine-learning alerts into clinic workflows to prompt unbiased evaluation, while emphasizing existing tools already work if applied. The script also frames fibromyalgia as nociplastic pain (central nervous system hypersensitivity), w Support the showWhen I started this podcast and YouTube Channel—and the book that came before it—I had my patients in mind. Christmas is more than a celebration — it's the moment eternity stepped into time. The Word became flesh. A King became a baby. God declared war against sin and offered humanity the greatest gift of all: salvation through Jesus Christ.Unrecognized by the world, yet full of grace and truth, Jesus came to redeem us, adopt us, and invite us into sonship. This podcast unpacks the true meaning of Christmas — not just a story to admire, but a Savior to confess and believe.

PREVIEW: Deadly Clashes Between Pakistan Army and Taliban Along the Unrecognized Durand Line GUEST NAME: Bill Roggio (Foundation for Defense of Democracies, The Long War Journal) 100-WORD SUMMARY: John Batchelor asks Bill Roggio to describe the challenging terrain where reports indicate hundreds have died in clashes between the Pakistani army and the Taliban's army along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The area, which includes both mountainous and desert country, spans hundreds of miles. A major cause of tension is that the Afghan and Pakistani Taliban do not recognize the Durand Line, which serves as the official border. Both sides have set up border outposts, and the location of these outposts sometimes shifts depending on local circumstances.

Some of our most transformational donors are the ones you'll never see on a wall or at a gala. They drive up in Hondas, not Bentleys—and they give in silence, often more generously than the loudest names on the marquee. But here's the catch: treating anonymity like invisibility is a critical failure. These quiet philanthropists still crave impact, connection, and trust—they just want it without the spotlight. Ignore them, and you don't just lose a gift; you risk losing a legacy.

Unrecognized Opportunities are like diamonds in the dirt—most people step right over ‘em ‘cause they ain't trained to see value where it hides. The game ain't just about what's obvious; it's about what's overlooked. Too many folks be chasing the same plays, the same lanes, ‘cause that's where the crowd at. But real wealth? It's built in the spaces where the average mind don't look. See, the stock market, real estate, business—everywhere you turn, there's a play waiting to be made. But if you only focused on what everybody else chasing, you gon' stay where everybody else stuck. The real bag? It's in identifying potential before the masses wake up to it. That's how the wealthy stay ahead—by recognizing opportunity where others see risk, by learning the rules of the game and playing it with strategy, not emotion. Stay woke to the unseen moves, ‘cause that's where the real power plays get made. Unrecognized Opportunities | Wallstreet Trapper (Episode 133) Trappin Tuesday's

California has more unrecognized Native tribes than any other state - what led to this strange state of affairs, and what does this mean in practice? In Unrecognized in California: Federal Acknowledgment and the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians (U Washington Press, 2024), San Diego State associate professor Olivia Chilcote answers these questions through the history and experience of her own tribe. Despite the inherent tribal sovereignty of the San Luis Rey Band, and indeed, of all Native tribes and nations, the long and difficult past of colonialism in California - from the Spanish, to the Mexican, to the American empires - has provided an array of obstacles to the acquisition of land and tribal recognition for the San Luis Rey Band and others. This unrecognized status has kept them from accessing several programs and protections, including NAGPRA. Yet, despite these headwinds, the San Luis Rey Band and other unrecognized California tribes nonetheless practice sovereignty in other ways, and in doing so continue to fight toward future recognition. In this very personal history, Chilcote explains how the government-to-government relationship between the United States and tribal nations creates both challenges and opportunities for Native people in the twenty first century. Most of the world's talent goes untapped. Unrecognized. With that in mind, I interviewed Laura González-Estéfani, founder of Miami-based VC firm TheVentureCity in May 2024. We talked about the potential of global talent and why more investors need to broaden their scope beyond major tech hubs. This episode provides valuable insights for founders who don't have large networks or a business background. She offered practical advice on navigating the VC approval process, building trust with investors, and avoiding common pitfalls such as overdilution of equity. She also talked about what she's looking for, and how she prefers to be pitched.
