Your body is SO good at telling you when you should eat and when you've had enough food especially when you are eating the right foods that help balance out your hormones and reduce cravings… It makes listening to your body SO much easier. I used to gain AT LEAST 5-15 pounds EVERY YEAR from Halloween to New Year's. It all started with leftover halloween candy. And Halloween candy would become Christmas cookies and cocktails.. I'd gain about 1-2 pounds per week, or about 15# in 2 months. In other words, I was starting off the new year with an extra 15 pounds to lose and a lot of guilt. That stopped 3 years ago. At first I was unsure how to do it…. I had never gone through an entire holiday season without having to retire my jeans IN January and live in sweatpants UNTIL February when I could fit back into them… And I thought.. How will I go to holiday parties, have fun and not feel deprived? How will I enjoy my favorite holiday foods without needing a larger scrub size on January 1st? When I was on weight watchers for the umpteenth time, I vividly remember how much I hated spending time preparing meals. Everything I did took a lot of time and dirtied a lot of measuring spoons and dishes. The meals always involved eating a lot of vegetables or else you would run out of points and be starving. The meals as a whole were never satisfying or delicious… and the vegetables were an obligation, not something I really wanted. Between the time, the complication, and the general apathy toward the food I was eating, it's no wonder I didn't like anything about losing weight that way. Two things have changed since then… I now see vegetables as a vital part of long term health and weight loss success, and I've learned how to make them easily and in ways that are delicious. In this process, I developed the skill set to prepare food in a quick way, including lots of vegetables, that I enjoy and look forward to eating that have helped my clients and I lose and maintain our weight loss. I have a human body and a human brain. During previous weight loss attempts I would have told myself “I'm messing up," “I knew I couldn't keep this weight off,” “I have no self control.” I would throw in the towel dive into half gallon of ice cream on the couch with the weight piling back on in no time. But now I handle these small upticks in the scale in a TOTALLY different way. I approach myself with curiosity, compassion, and love. I use the tools I've learned on this journey…. and… I figure it the F*** out. And the weight just comes back off. No shame, no drama, no empty half gallon containers of ice cream. Have you ever considered eating things like ice cream, cookies, and alcohol mean that you are “off track?" It's like…. if you are eating those things then you are off track and if you aren't then you are on track??? What if eating those things, as part of your plan, was actually part of your “track” to permanent weight loss?
