5 ways to tell if you are an emotional eater Overcome emotional eating: bit.ly/cravingsheet You might be an emotional eater but not realize you are. Which means, you might not be able to lose weight and have no idea why you can't get yourself to stop eating. When i say “emotional eater” that doesn't mean you have to be crying into a carton of ice cream. What it does mean is that any type of emotion, positive or negative, could be driving you to eat. If you suspect you are, or you want to learn how to move forward if you are this is a great episode for you. When you feel X you eat You know for sure you get stressed out at work, you're grabbing something from vending machine. Had a busy day, ice cream on the couch after everyone's in bed will help you decompress. These are classic emotional eating signs because you are literally avoiding emotion with food. You feel a strong emotional tie to food Someone just mentions chocolate cake and you get excited, anxious, now that's all you can think about. You know when you have a bad day, food will help If you have a crap day and immediately start planning all the foods you're going to eat to feel better than you're an emotional eater You use food to self sooth or get through certain situations You consider food to be self care or love. You “wake up” after having eaten a lot and you're not sure what happened If you are ever so checked out that you don't remember eating If any of these rings a bell, a great piece of advice I can offer is to download the worksheet I have for you. This will help you gain some insight about your emotional eaing habits and how you can begin to take control of them!

Happiness Solved with Sandee Sgarlata. In this episode, Sandee interviews Jessica Procini. Jessica Procini is a woman on a mission. As the founder and leader of Escape From Emotional Eating since 2011, she has been helping women who strive for excellence heal the roots of their emotional eating so they can embody their full potential. She created Escape From Emotional Eating®, a unique process grounded in a decade of research, a background in the Psychology of Eating, and Transformational Coaching methods. But it's her own personal emotional eating journey and experience that makes her work stand out from the rest. Frustrated that 932 hours in therapy never helped her end her fight with food and Overeaters Anonymous never being a place she could call ‘home', she never gave up and never lost hope. Determined to find a way to truly be free from emotional eating so she could have the peace, freedom, and joy in her body, mind, and soul she had always longed for, Jessica knew there needed to be a different kind of support... one that got to the roots of emotional eating. Finally free from her old self-destructive cycles with food, Jessica pairs her personal experience with her professional expertise to help other high-striving women get to the roots of their emotional eating through her year-long programs, retreats, keynotes, and workshops. As a sought-after thought leader, Jessica's work has received multiple awards year after year from the Institute of Psychology of Eating and has been featured in noteworthy media outlets such as ABC, CBS, and MindBodyGreen. Jessica lives in Philadelphia with her husband Zach and two rescue dogs Billie and CJ. She recharges her batteries by trying to grow flowers in her miniature urban garden and taking adult ballet classes. Amber Romaniuk is an Emotional Eating, Digestive and Hormone Expert who helps high achieving women create a level of body confidence, intuition and optimal health through powerful mindset healing, self-care and overcoming self-sabotage with food. She does this through addressing the key negative thoughts, patterns and limiting beliefs that keep women stuck in the same behaviors for years and decades that they haven't been able to break. In this episode I address my own personal struggles with food & how I silently suffered with a disorder for years (daunting to actually say this out loud!) but this topic is so important to talk about as it is more common than we think! For the first time ever, Dana sits down by herself to openly discuss her lifelong battle with emotional eating, binge eating and food addiction. She opening shares her experiences and how she found her way to the other side by seeking treatment, putting in the work and finding her solutions and tools.

Maybe you're not an emotional eater in the way that you thought you were... I can't even tell you how many times a client comes to me saying she's an emotional eater only to discover through working together that it was a symptom of a different issue. When we work on that core issue, her "emotional eating" isn't a struggle anymore. Because we got to the ROOT of the matter. Today, I'm sharing with you the insights, tools, and support I give my emotional eating clients…so that you, too, can stop feeling out of control with food in reactive ways that don't serve you. There is, of course, a time and place to embrace eating emotionally. It is a natural part of life that should be enjoyed, not demonized. However, if it isn't feeling good to you or serving you, it is important to learn how to cope with your emotions in a healthy way. More importantly though, you need to first know what type of emotional eating you are dealing with (and it may possibly not even be emotional eating but part of a bigger issue you need to identify) to effectively stop feeling out of control with food in this way! I'm dropping all the light bulb moments for you in this week's episode where we cover:: Identifying if you are actually an emotional eater (surprise! You may think you are but actually are not!) Emily August is an Associate Professor of Literature at Stockton University. She holds a PhD in English from Vanderbilt University, and an MFA in creative writing from University of Minnesota. As a longtime body liberation proponent, she focuses on the human body in her research and writing. Her scholarly work examines representations of the body in 19th-century literature, art, and scientific discourse. She seeks to understand how a very narrow, specific version of the body became the authoritative medical standard defined as healthy and normative—and how this standard continues to impact clinical practice and societal power relations. In addition to her scholarly work, her forthcoming debut poetry collection, entitled The Punishments Must Be a School, treats themes of intergenerational trauma and intimate partner violence. Since embarking on her recovery journey in 2017, she has passionately advocated to destigmatize abstinence. She practices a body-neutral, body-inclusive approach to abstinence-based food addiction recovery. She divides her time between Lake Superior's North Shore and the Atlantic Ocean's Jersey Shore. Today we get deep. Molly and I left this interview feeling so empowered in our recovery choices and we know you will too. In this episode: How can we move towards a more weight neutral conversation in food addiction recovery How to try and help our recovery community break free from diet culture How to address the issue of comparison in recovery How we can get to that place of neutrality How to make that crucial shift towards accepting and committing to abstinence Bringing social justice tools to abstinence The importance of gaining tolerance to the diet culture and knowing that most people are just wounded and in the process of healing Determining how to have a conversation that bridges the gap between food addiction and eating disorders Addiction as a Health Management Condition How there is no heroism in a thinner body Fat Liberation, Fat Acceptance, Ableism Addiciton as a Chronic Health Problem Chronic health conditions aren't curable, they aren't shameful, and we don't have to problematize them as something to be fixed or solved.
