In this episode, I had the opportunity of speaking to Azania Mosaka. I fan'girled a little (or a lot) but there were some incredible insights shared and some learnings too. Having watched and listened to her over the years in her broadcast career and as she moved into other business roles - I just marveled at how she just does what she does - in my world, she's just magic! In that real, wonderful, funny, witty and colourful manner. Our conversation touched on family, career, wellness and business. There were moments I wanted to say 'Pause! That I need to jot down', because really, her way of drawing you in is special, and what she shared, no matter where you are, who you are or what is happening in your world - there is something that you take to heart as you walk this life journey. I hope you enjoy the episode!
Ever feel like you're running in circles? We spend wild amounts of energy on pursuits that often don't lead anywhere. In this episode we 'Pause the Pursuit' and talk about meaning.
Who do you talk to more than anyone else? Could it be yourself? Mike Normant, certified Executive Coach and author takes time out of his busy schedule to talk about his new book: Coach Yourself Up. Mike helps us understand how he went from electrical engineering to consulting to human resources...then hit the 'Pause' button to figure out what he really wanted to be. In this episode Mike & I talk about bringing a coaching "flavor" to our conversations with ourselves, a six-syllable word for "hope," and the ultimate superpower that anyone can have (with a little work).
On this episode, I am going to read a question from a client. This mama does not want her child's picture to be posted online. She's worried that she may be perceived as rude or strange. Here’s the question I received: I don't want people to post pictures of my baby online. How can I tell people not to? How do I even begin to talk about this without seeming rude or like a crazy first-time mom? It's often difficult to 'put into words' the experiences that we have in life. We resort to describing abstract or unfamiliar concepts in terms of things that are concrete or we think will be familiar to the listener. Analogies and metaphors help us to develop and expand our understanding of a subject or situation, for example, the challenges that we face in life. They may offer an alternative perspective that we might not otherwise have considered. Each episode of the 'Metaphors for Life' podcast is a 'thought bubble' - a format designed to work as a 'Thought for the Day' or 'Pause for Thought'. It's aim is to encourage psychological flexibility, promote good mental health, and introduce ideas inspired by evidence based psychological therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
The third leg of MRelay considered the theme 'Pause'. What happens when we stop—if we push a symbolic pause button on our lives? How is pause used as a diplomatic moment, a break in verse, a strategic instrument, a historical atonement or a connection to place? This session presented a chance to reflect on our past lives, imagined lives and future lives, and considered our environment and the surroundings we are in. How a moment of pause can result in a total reassessment and recalibration. In our technology-based society, we explored the significance of pause in creative practice, techniques of mindfulness, the importance of learning from history, paying respect to our elders and the unifying moment of a minute’s silence in a crowd. Pause was hosted by Nayuka Gorrie, Indigenous writer and activist. Speakers includedKenny Pittock, Melbourne based artist; Julie Bernhardt, professor at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health in Melbourne; Penny Modra, writing and grammar nerd at The Good Copy; Sue Maslin, hugely successful film producer; Daniel Teitelbaum, head of content at School of Life Australia; Amy Muir, director of MUIR Architects; and Eugenia Flynn, CEO at The Social Studio.

Imagine an army of young people that actually capture the spirit of Thanksgiving-all. year. long. In week one of this 'PAUSE' series, Pastor Brandon challenges students to 'rewind' by thinking back to key moments in which God has released blessings to them. Like the Israelites after crossing the Jordan River, students are charged to build a memorial and never forget God's faithfulness.
This installment is brought to you by Bristol's Lukas. Lukas is one half of 'The Runners' who are best know for their releases on Dirt Crew, and destroying dance-floors from Bristol to Berlin (including the legendary Bar 25). ''With this mix I've traced a musical line between the first sets I played at Just Jack up to the present day. This isn't a collection of this month's latest tracks: I've dug out the likes of Will Saul's tech-house classic 'Pause' and the Noir disco of 'Round the House' (one of Tensnake's darker moments) - as they remind me so much of the early Just Jack parties. Over an hour we catch up to the present, with the organic wiggle of 'Every Cow has a Bird' and the classic deep house sound of San Soda, via a bit of Soundstream. Along the way, there's a few nice exclusives for this mix, including some bits from me that you won't have heard before.''
