Just Jack and Mike for this episode! Jack begins by sending well-wishes to his radio influence, Fred Toettcher. Here’s to hoping Fred finds peace. Elsewhere, a number of celebrities no longer walk among us. Jack features audio from Fleetwood Mac’s Peter Green, Gone with the Wind star Olivia de Havilland, and the great Regis Philbin. Also, never forget that the original version of “Torn” is far superior to Natalie Imbruglia’s cover. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/hardlyfocused/support
Part One: “The Rolling List of ‘Holy Shit’ v2.0” Just Jack and Mike for this episode! Jack begins by sending well-wishes to his radio influence, Fred Toettcher. Here’s to hoping Fred finds peace. Also, never forget that the original version of “Torn” is far superior to Natalie Imbruglia’s cover. Part Two: The Best of Comic-Con @ Home 2020 Ever the consummate speaker, Jack tries – and fails – to pronounce “Evangelion.” Regardless, he has high praise for the new Rick and Morty anime clip short. We need more of this! Meanwhile, Comic Con 2020 goes virtual. Jack and Mike cover the best things presented thus far, including Bill and Ted Face the Music, Star Trek, and more. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/hardlyfocused/support

#126 – Just Jack and Kate this week, on a special episode of Downers. Whether it's depression, anxiety, or a general funk, we all get experience emotional valleys (or maybe craters) from time to time. We devote the hour to the actual topic of SADNESS on our sadness podcast. All that, and more, on Downers! (Hao's graphics card broke so he's writing this without having listened to the episode. I will update this copy as soon as I listen to it on my phone!)

Tracks from Finley Quaye, Faithless, Will Smith, Ice Cube, Marlena Shaw, Just Jack,The Dub Pistols, Morecheeba and the Mamas and the Papas. Twat of the Week is very well earned by Katie Price
#113 – We break our rule about current events to talk about places of worship. In light of recent horrific events, we cannot help but feel compelled to say nice things about them. “There’s no path towards evolution and making something better unless we can talk about it.“Jack Dorsey Imagine shouldering responsibility of one of the planet's largest social networks. Now imagine that's just one of your jobs, the second focused on reinventing the world's relationship with money. This is Jack Dorsey's life. The co-founder and CEO of both Twitter and Square, today's guest is one of the most influential figures of the modern age — a man who has made an indelible impact on our cultural landscape by quite literally shaping how society communicates in the emergent digital era. What started as a simple means to share personal status updates, Twitter has swelled into arguably the most important social media platform for breaking news, journalism, and political discourse. A powerful tool for speaking truth to power, it's put wind in the sails of important social movements. Provided safe haven for whistle blowers. And given marginalized groups and dissidents a voice that can be heard across the globe. But Twitter must also account for the noxious devolution of civil discourse — a behemoth apparatus easily weaponized for motives nefarious.Twitter is nothing if not controversial. And Jack is the face of such controversy — a polarizing figure in the crosshairs of Twitter critics across all sides of the social and political spectrum.Recognizing the need to more thoroughly address Twitter's role and responsibility in the growing toxicity of public conversation, Jack has spent the last month publicly addressing the platform's missteps, challenges and aspirations on a wide variety of media platforms and podcasts that include two appearances on The Joe Rogan Experience, Sam Harris' podcast Making Sense, and many others. My sense is that critics were left unsatisfied with Jack's answers to the many hard questions posed.I understand and appreciate the criticism. Just how exactly can Twitter successfully promote healthy conversation, eliminate toxicity and fairly police bad actors across 500 million daily tweets? I don't know the answer. But I do know that I heard an intelligent, empathetic and well intentioned man in an almost impossible situation — someone owning his failures and transparently endeavoring with great equanimity to solve these herculean problems in both good faith and real time.In approaching this conversation, I made the choice not to retread territory explored at great length on Rogan. Instead, my interest is to better understand the human behind the curtain. What does it actually feel like to be at the helm of one of the largest and most powerful social media platforms in the world? What is a day in the life of Jack Dorsey like? What daily self-care practices does he employ to mitigate the stress of his gargantuan responsibilities? And just how did this young man blaze such an extraordinary entrepreneurial path?I first met Jack about two years ago during a visit to San Francisco. A fan of the podcast, he invited me up to the Square offices. Although our encounter was brief, I liked him immediately. Soft spoken, kind and curious, I left our meeting wanting to better understand what makes him tick.Open to sharing his story on the podcast, I visited his San Francisco home on a foggy Saturday morning a few weeks ago. Unsurprisingly, his home is beautiful and well appointed. But it's also strikingly modest given his stature. Minimal to the point of spartan, it's devoid of material excess. No entourage. No private chef. No crazy car collection. Not even an assistant. Just Jack, barefoot, unpretentious and excited to show me his infrared sauna, his cold plunge, See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Ladies and Gentlemen so excited to step things up with Keith Cooper on the Podcast. Keith managed the Brit Award winning Finley Quaye when the multi platinum selling album 'Maverick A Strike' was released which had multiple hit singles on it including 'Sunday Shining' and 'Even After All'. He also managed Cut Chemist from Jurassic 5, legendary Drum n Bass Producer Aphrodite which meant bringing us the era defining 'Aphrodite' album, as well as Ian Brown of the Stone Roses. Furthermore, he managed the Multi Platinum selling Stereo MCs for over 13 years seeing them through record breaking sales and 2 Brit Awards, and huge tours. Then on top of that he also managed PM Dawn again Multi Platinum sales and Brit Awards. Then also for management there was also the Jungle Brothers, Just Jack, Scribz Riley, Aaradhna & Joe Fox. Truth & Soul are currently a producer duo who he is excited to be managing who have co written tracks for Adele on her multi platinum selling album, and is also responsible for Aloe Blacc & music supervision & production on Red Dead Redemption. If this was not enough he also ran a publishing company that held/hold the worldwide rights for publishing of material by Finlay Quaye, Jurassic 5, Aphrodite, Ian Brown, Just Jack, Truth & Soul and Adele. On top of this Keith is now a qualified Psychotherapist, having completed an MA in Psychotherapy, he has a private practice as well as continuing management and publishing in music. This was a gripping conversation where we really went under the hood and spoke about human behaviour in the music industry. I also ended up exposing some of my recent behaviour and ended up having some counselling from Keith and we deconstruct where those behaviours were coming from. I think this conversation is a gift to any aspiring musician, pro musician or aspiring or music industry pro. Remember if you like the podcast please leave a review and share it to a close friend who you know will like it. These kind of conversations are a gift to get an insider view from experienced people who have made mistakes and suffered, so that you can avoid those stresses and strains. Also to help you if you are feeling the struggle. Please SHARE to a friend and help the conversation go to the people that need to hear this!
Well, on Facebook we posted that we’d be delayed a week, BUT, we just happened to all descend upon Lodge No. 665 on a random Sunday for some fellowship, and were able to knock out a quick episode. No frills this show, no news, no segments (because we weren’t ready!) Just Jack, Pete, Larry, Jason, and our friend Jay Laser with a drop in from Keith chat about Scouting, DeMolay, Kentucky Colonels, Grotto, Tall Cedars, and the upcoming installations we’re involved in. Jack and Pete try their hand and selling Grotto vs. Tall Cedars to Keith, and we see who wins. We hope you enjoy our random banter… because we did! Oh, we also shared Canadian hot pickles that were gifted to us from Bro. One of the great institutions of the British alternative music scene, the NME, announced this week that they would be ceasing the production of their print publication after over 70 years, so naturally we had to pay our own Tracks Show tribute. Well and truly putting the FUN in FUNeral, we spun some massive tunes from the likes of The Libertines, Happy Mondays, Klaxons and Just Jack and reminisced about our memories of this staple of our musical upbringing. So it's thanks for the memories from us to the NME, and thanks for tuning in to you, our lovely listeners. Until next week, Tim & Harry x We do not claim ownership of any of the music played in this episode. Jack Andraka was just a fifteen year old Maryland high school sophomore when he invented an inexpensive early detection test for pancreatic, ovarian, and lung cancers. After a close family friend died of pancreatic cancer, Andraka (then a ninth grader) became interested in finding a better early-detection diagnostic test. He learned that the lack of a rapid, low-cost early screening method contributed to the poor survival rate among individuals with pancreatic cancer. After thinking further about the problem, he came up with a plan and a budget to put his ideas in motion. Still a teenager, Andraka’s groundbreaking results have earned him international recognition, most notably a 2014 Jefferson Award, the nation’s most prestigious public service award, 1stplace winner in the 2014 Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge, a 2014 National Geographic Explorer grant, the 2012 Intel ISEF Gordon Moore Award, the 2012 Smithsonian American Ingenuity Youth Award, Advocate Magazine’s 40 under 40 award, and he’s also the 2014 State of Maryland winner of the Stockholm Water Prize. In addition, Andraka was First Lady Michelle Obama’s personal guest at the 2013 State of the Union Address. He speaks to audiences of youths and adults all across the globe about his personal story, research, and his ideas for STEM education reform. He has been featured in several documentaries including Morgan Spurlock’s Sundance Film Festival entry, “You Don’t Know Jack,” Linda Peters’ award winning film, “Just Jack,” Ken Burns’ upcoming documentary about cancer, as well as 60 Minutes, The Colbert Report, ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, CNN, BBC, Fox, Rede Record de Televisão, and radio, newspaper, and magazine articles around the world. Andraka speaks at a wide variety of locations including universities, schools, technology organizations and corporations, hospitals and the education sector. His audiences range from youth—children and teens through to adults in the science and technology fields. Andraka is a freshman at Stanford University, Class of 2019. He is a member of the National Junior Wildwater Kayak team, a Life Scout and has won numerous awards in national and international math competitions. Learn more about Jack – www.JackAndraka.com Jack’s Memoir BREAKTHROUGH: How One Teen Innovator Is Changing The World was published by HarperCollins Children’s Books in March 2015. Jack’s riveting memoir encourages his generation to approach their pursuits, whatever they may be, with an attitude of determination and gumption. Whether giving advice or admitting to personal shortcomings and failures, Jack’s story remains engaging and motivational as he shares his experiences of bullying, depression, rejection, and ultimately international success. Jack shows how the curiosity and perseverance of one teenager could potentially save the lives of millions of people. BREAKTHROUGH empowers its audience with the knowledge that the power to change the world is within each and every one of us, if only we have the courage to realize our full potential. Learn more about Jack’s Memoir or order it for yourself – Jack's Memoir --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Raised by a wild pack of Jews, otherwise known as her mother and siblings, Dana Goldberg is a force of nature on stage. She sets the standard for smart comedy, and her timing and tongue-in-cheek edginess is why she continues to collect loyal fans in cities all over the world. Goldberg’s quick wit and playful stage presence is spreading like wildfire! Voted one of the “Top Five Funniest Lesbians in America,” CURVE Magazine raves, “One of the brightest star in a stellar comedy landscape!” The Irish Post writes, “Dana’s sharp, insightful observations are concealed behind an easy-going chatty style. This makes her one of a handful of comics able to transfer their work across the Atlantic.” The Advocate.com named Goldberg one of the top three LGBT comedians in the country. Goldberg started her comedy career in 2003 in front of 650 people in a sold out theater in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Seven months into her career she was invited to Scotland by Emmy Award Winning writer Paul Wagner to perform with 13 other American comedians as part of the US Comedy Invasion at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh. After returning to the states, Goldberg began competing in festivals and competitions all over the country. She was one of five national finalists to perform in the “Wendy’s Good Taste Comedy Challenge” produced by HBO and TBS in Las Vegas, Nevada as part of The Comedy Festival. In 2005 Goldberg was chosen out of thousands of comedians to participate in the San Francisco International Comedy Competition. In three short years, she was invited to New York City to share the stage with powerhouse comedians Roz G, Laurie Kilmartin and Judy Gold for the 17th Annual Comedy Hour at Caroline’s On Broadway on behalf of the Ms. Foundation and Gloria Steinem. Since her explosive start, Goldberg has performed in clubs and theaters all over the country, graced two national magazine covers, and performed in 23 states and 7 countries. In 2006, just three years after she stepped onto the stage for the first time, Goldberg put on a producer’s hat and started the Annual Southwest Funnyfest in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Each year Goldberg hosts the night of comedy to help benefit New Mexico AIDS Services (NMAS). She brings the best national female headlining comics to the Land of Enchantment for a night of non-stop, no holds barred, side splitting comedy. Since its inception, the Funnyfest has helped to raise close to $30,000 for NMAS and has brought in over a dozen comedians from The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Comedy Central, Late Night With Craig Ferguson, Last Comic Standing, and Comics Unleashed. In the summer of 2009, Goldberg starred in her comedy special “One Night Stand Up: Episode 4” on the LOGO network; filmed at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. Later that year she recorded her debut DVD “Hot And Bothered: Dana Goldberg Live” in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Emmy award winning comedian David Brenner raves, “One of the best ways to beat the recession is with laughs, and Dana Goldberg offers you one of your best chances to get some in her debut DVD.” After moving to Los Angeles in the fall of 2009, Goldberg found a new comedy home and it wasn’t long before she was headlining nights at world famous clubs like The Laugh Factory and the LA Improv. Goldberg continues to combine her gift of humor with humanitarian efforts raising over three million dollars to fight HIV/AIDS and joins LGBT communities and organizations across the country to raise national awareness in the fight for equality. Since joining the Human Rights Campaign family in 2009, Goldberg has headlined comedy nights, hosted, and assisted in live auctions for HRC events across the country in more than a dozen cities. In addition to her hilarious comedy and side-splitting performances, Goldberg has shared the national stage with President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton, Shonda Rhimes, Jennifer Hudson, Lady Gaga, Kathy Griffin, and Portia de Rossi just to name a few. As the youngest child in a single parent household run by a Jewish mother in which two of three kids are gay, Goldberg helps keep most of the comedy venues and half of the psychotherapists in the country in business.

In an episode definitely not sponsored by Janet Jackson, Panic! at the Disco, or the Cheesecake Factory, Tess and Matthew feel bad that Will and Grace haven't yet learned that they shouldn't work together (on things that aren't podcasts). Plus: Matthew delivers his last and best rant about why Harlin just doesn't work, and discovers the joys of JUST JACK!

Buckley regularly frequented the Ketoloco basement back in the early Headingley days and also played arguably the most memorable set; a 3 hour acid house-a-thon. Obviously having the man who's held down residencies at The Hacienda, Renaissance (in early days), We Love in Ibiza, BackToBasics and more recently Just Jack, spinning in our student basement was quite a hedonistic experience. From that point on Buckley has been a regular at our parties and a firm Ketoloco favorite. We thought it fitting, then, to invite him to contribute to our podcast series. This mix is what Buckley is all about; no fucking around, straight-up house music, mixed with his trademark flow and prowess. There's plenty of fresh house cuts, including some of his own on-point productions, and some older favorites. With an imminent EP due for release on Hot Creations, if you don't know Buckley by now you definitely should. Fill ya boots. Oh and Buckley will feature next month at The Light Bar on Sunday 3rd June alongside Chez Damier, Underground Paris and his studio bud Denney. Watch this space for deets!
This installment is brought to you by Bristol's Lukas. Lukas is one half of 'The Runners' who are best know for their releases on Dirt Crew, and destroying dance-floors from Bristol to Berlin (including the legendary Bar 25). ''With this mix I've traced a musical line between the first sets I played at Just Jack up to the present day. This isn't a collection of this month's latest tracks: I've dug out the likes of Will Saul's tech-house classic 'Pause' and the Noir disco of 'Round the House' (one of Tensnake's darker moments) - as they remind me so much of the early Just Jack parties. Over an hour we catch up to the present, with the organic wiggle of 'Every Cow has a Bird' and the classic deep house sound of San Soda, via a bit of Soundstream. Along the way, there's a few nice exclusives for this mix, including some bits from me that you won't have heard before.''
