Tech Fail Alert! The last 5 minutes of our discussion was cut off by dastardly internet Gremlins, but we said most of what we wanted to say anyway.  In a follow-up to the recent Thai election, Greg and Ed do their best to make sense of the unexpected outcome. Greg defers to Ed's poli sci knowledge, and Ed struggles through it despite his expertise being American politics. Before the election, polls indicate it was a three-horse race between the progressive faction, the Thaksin clan, and the conservative faction led by the current Prime Minister. Although the progressive faction was expected to grab a plurality, none of the three were expected to have the majority necessary to form a government - so the main question was going to be: Which two factions would team up? Alas, the conservative faction ended up with a decisive victory, upending many of the gains that the progressive faction made in the last election, especially in rural areas. The margin of victory was such that the issue of coalition-building was almost moot due to the plethora of small parties to build the majority. So what led to the conservative victory? Ed notes that the current Prime Minister capitalized on his incumbency to ride a nationalist wave driven by the recent conflict with Cambodia. This was somewhat expected, but not to the extent that came to pass. Other factors, such as the lack of a charismatic leader among the progressive faction could also have been a factor. Greg chalks it up to people just being tired of the constant back-and-forth where nothing ever really changes, so they just chose to stay home and not vote for anyone - basically, they prefer stability to fighting for change. Last, the guys discuss the myriad claims of mistakes in the vote count and hope the Election Commission orders some recounts in at least some districts.

Send us a text◆ Bond auctions get the fintech treatment ◆ Oracle shows how to fund AI capex with bonds ◆ Banks plough on in bonds despite weaker marketsThere's nothing new about auctioning bonds as a means to distribute them but this week, fintech BondAuction was involved in a deal for The Housing Finance Corporation that brought new technology to the idea and introduced it to a new section of the market. We discussed how it worked, how it was receieved and whether it will catch on as an alternative to traditional syndication away from the government bond market.Another big tech theme in the capital markets is how they will accommodate the tech giants' needs for large volumes of debt to fund their AI capex plans. Oracle showed the way with a stunning $25bn bond syndication this week but moreover, it set its stall out for investors the day before, telling them in advance just what it was going to issue. Like auctions, being clear about issuance plans may be common practice in the sovereign bond market but it was an unusual experience for the corporate mart. That said, now that some of the hyperscalers have borrowing needs akin to some European governments, we thought it seemed a sensible way to behave. Finally, we looked at the bond market for financial institutions and wondered what could possibly derail issuance there given how strong deal execution has been, even as market conditions falter. We were also joined by our sponsor MarketAxess's global head of emerging markets, Dan Burke. He spoke to us about developments in the EM bond market and how the electronic bond trading platform his company operates is evolving.Read on:https://www.globalcapital.com/article/2fy4nee9yc76lol9nn474/people-and-markets/bondauction-seeks-market-users-willing-to-rethink-syndicationhttps://www.globalcapital.com/article/2fxsn91h1dgvfuzud1af4/corporate-bonds/high-grade-and-crossover-bonds/oracle-dollar-deal-offers-vision-of-the-future-for-ai-capex-fundinghttps://www.globalcapital.com/article/2fxy9fidfbtfcbky574lc/people-and-markets/leader/be-less-delphic-with-your-funding-planshttps://www.globalcapital.com/article/2fy424v8m71jpvpfcx1xc/fig/fig-market-faces-uncertain-future-despite-rousing

The tide may have gone out on IntSAR, but the story isn't over. In this season finale, Sarah traces what happens after the collapse — following the digital breadcrumbs that reveal how Admiral Peter Cowell re-emerges with a new identity, a new pitch, and a familiar playbook. From humanitarian aid to “angel investing,” the pattern repeats: new titles, new promises, and the same elusive outcomes. As Sarah reflects on the journey that began with a gut feeling, The BADmiral ends where all investigations do — at the intersection of belief, charisma, and consequence. Peter Cowell was contacted for comment during the production of this series. At the time of publication, no response has been received. All accounts and opinions in this series are those of the participants, based on their own experiences. Allegations are always attributed to their sources. The story is told in the public interest to examine how trust, belief, and ambition can intertwine.

Ever had that moment when you realize you've become the "veteran adventurer" in your own party? The RPGBOT crew sure has. In this episode, we channel that energy straight into the Unearthed Arcana Arcane Subclasses, dissecting the Enchanter, Necromancer, and Transmuter Wizards from D&D 2024. Expect laughter, existential dread, and a healthy dose of spell slot math as we ask the real question: Can Wizards of the Coast enchant us again, or are we just too old for these saving throws? Show Notes In this episode of the RPGBOT.Podcast, the hosts continue their deep dive into the Unearthed Arcana Arcane Subclasses playtest for Dungeons and Dragons (D&D 2024). They explore the evolution of several wizard subclasses: the Enchanter Wizard, Necromancer Wizard, and Transmuter Wizard, and analyze how these changes impact gameplay mechanics, class balance, and overall player experience. The discussion begins on a lighthearted note, as the hosts reflect on aging and nostalgia through stories about concerts and generational shifts in music. This leads naturally into a conversation about how nostalgia and design evolution shape our experiences with tabletop RPGs like D&D. From there, the hosts dig into the details of the Unearthed Arcana wizard subclasses: The Enchanter Wizard's new enchantment mechanics spark a conversation about free will, consent, and how these ethical themes play out in gameplay. The Necromancer Wizard gets a significant rework, with temporary hit points for undead minions, exploding skeleton mechanics, and other game design improvements that enhance tactical and thematic play. The Transmuter Wizard's Transmuter Stone, polymorph mechanics, and restoration spells see meaningful updates that make the subclass more versatile and rewarding to play. Throughout the episode, the hosts consider the balance between fun and mechanics, chain reaction gameplay, and hit dice damage calculations, all while highlighting how Wizards of the Coast is actively listening to player feedback in shaping the upcoming D&D 2024 rules. If you love D&D class analysis, wizard subclass deep dives, and thoughtful conversations about game design and player engagement, this episode of the RPGBOT Podcast is a must-listen. Key Takeaways Feeling nostalgic? The hosts open with a candid reflection on aging, concerts, and how nostalgia connects to our love of gaming. The Enchanter Wizard subclass has evolved to offer richer roleplay opportunities and more engaging mechanics—but not without debate around split enchantment and ethical implications. The Necromancer Wizard gains thematic depth with undead minion improvements, temporary hit points, and a delightfully destructive exploding undead mechanic. The Transmuter Wizard subclass sees significant improvements—its Transmuter Stone now provides more tactical flexibility, while polymorph and restoration mechanics enhance its role in party support. Hit dice and chain reaction gameplay significantly affect how damage and encounters unfold, underscoring the importance of thoughtful class balancing. The Unearthed Arcana playtest demonstrates Wizards of the Coast's responsiveness to player feedback and commitment to refining D&D 2024 subclass design. The hosts highlight that balancing fun vs. optimization remains key to an enjoyable Dungeons and Dragons experience. Ultimately, this discussion celebrates both nostalgia and innovation in tabletop RPG design, showing how evolving rules can breathe new life into classic classes. From Police Sergeant to Podcaster “I remember being in the Baltimore Police Academy in 1980 and an instructor telling us that the average maximum age for a Baltimore Police Officer at that time was 52, and that many of them died within two years of retirement,” Wiley recalled. “That hit me like a ton of bricks. Although I could never imagine myself being that old at the time.” READ THIS FREE ARTICLE: 3 Tips to Help You Stand Out from the Crowd. Wiley's law enforcement career ended abruptly after a career-ending injury, forcing him to make a difficult decision about what came next. Instead of allowing the setback to define his future, Wiley pivoted toward broadcasting, a leap that would eventually redefine his life. Life After Police Work: And Yes, Old Dogs Can Learn New Tricks, Special Episode of the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast. Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms. Over time, he built a successful second career as a nationally syndicated radio host and podcaster, launching the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show to give first responders, veterans, and their families a platform to share their real, unfiltered stories. “Resilience and mental health are topics we can't ignore,” Wiley shared. “Our show isn't about headlines or quick soundbites, it's about honest, authentic voices that deserve to be heard.” Embracing Technology: Old Dogs, New Tricks Beyond radio, Wiley faced another major challenge, technology. The world had gone digital, and for someone whose professional beginnings predated smartphones and social media, the learning curve was steep. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website , Apple Podcasts , Spotify and most major podcast platforms. “The question was, could this old dog learn new tricks?” Wiley joked. “Not only did I have to embrace technology, but I had to use it as a tool, to grow financially, expand my reach, and create multiple streams of revenue.” Today, Wiley connects with audiences across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and podcast platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Through these channels, he's built a national and international following, all while keeping the mission at the heart of his work, amplifying the voices of first responders. Life After Police Work: And Yes, Old Dogs Can Learn New Tricks, Special Episode. Challenging Age Stereotypes Ande Lyons, host of Don't Be Caged By Your Age, praised Wiley's energy and authenticity: “John Jay is a remarkable storyteller and advocate. He's living proof that thriving after 65 is possible, and that old assumptions about aging no longer apply. His courage to adapt and grow is exactly what inspires my audience.” Lyons' show celebrates pro-aging perspectives, weekly conversations with individuals who defy outdated expectations about what life “should” look like after 60. Her mission is to provide ideas, resources, and motivation for anyone seeking to flourish in later life. Wiley's story fit perfectly into that vision. The full podcast episode is streaming now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. READ THIS FREE ARTICLE: Unplug and Disconnect for Success: The Power of Intentional Disconnection During the interview, they also discussed ageism, which Wiley addressed candidly: “Ageism is something that I have to acknowledge exists,” he said, “but I've never had my age stop me from being employed. I focus on selling my value. I don't need health insurance, I have flexibility in earnings, and I bring decades of experience. When employers realize that, they understand it costs less to hire me than a younger person.” Wiley's practical approach to self-worth and experience reframes aging as an advantage, not an obstacle. Building the Life You Want For Wiley, the key to his post-police success has been mindset. “It's about creating the life you want,” he explained. “Not the life dictated to you by others. Once I understood that, everything, broadcasting, podcasting, social media, technology, became tools to build something meaningful.” He's also quick to challenge stereotypes about older adults and technology. “You don't have to understand how something works to use it effectively,” he said. Life After Police Work: And Yes, Old Dogs Can Learn New Tricks, Special Episode of the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website , Apple Podcasts , Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Wiley illustrates the point with three simple examples: television, radio, and flight. Television: “I don't comprehend how the signal is broadcast or how the screen displays it, but I can turn it on and instantly be transported into another story, another world.” Radio: “I've worked in it for years, yet I still can't explain how sound travels that far. I just know that when I speak into a microphone, people everywhere can hear me.” Air travel: “It baffles me how something that big and heavy flies 500 miles an hour at 30,000 feet. But I don't need to understand it to benefit from it.” His philosophy is simple but powerful: focus on learning how to use technology, not how it works. A Story Worth Sharing Whether it's through the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show, podcasts, or social media, John Jay Wiley continues to use his platform to serve others, particularly those who've served their communities. His story is one of resilience, adaptability, and purpose, reminding listeners that the end of one career can be the beginning of another. Life After Police Work: And Yes, Old Dogs Can Learn New Tricks, Special Episode of the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast. The full podcast episode is streaming now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. As Wiley summed it up beautifully: “Life after police work doesn't mean the end of purpose. It means a new chapter—and if you're willing to learn, old dogs really can learn new tricks.” Listeners can tune into this special episode of the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and the Don't Be Caged By Your Age Podcast, streaming now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Old dogs. New tricks. New Story. To overcome what's been hardwired into your brain, you're gonna have to override it with better reactions. You're gonna have to crave better. Constantly. It takes information. It takes applied effort. It takes repetitive responsibility. You can't up your game if you're constantly throwing blame. Smart dogs know this. In honor of Mother's Day, both of our storytellers share stories about their unique relationships with their moms. Part 1: Rita Rigano always had a complicated relationship with her mother, and it becomes even more fraught when her mother's dementia worsens. Part 2: In the midst of writing her PhD dissertation, Jordyn Rice embarks on one last road trip with her mother, who is dying of lung cancer. Rita Rigano is a NYC-based storyteller who appears locally and online. Some favorite shows include Generation Woman, New Tricks, (mostly) True Things, The Moth, The Once Upon a Time Show, and Better Said Than Done. She started storytelling with her children, presenting fairy tales with a twist at libraries and schools. She loves live theatre, live music, and swing dancing with her husband. Jordyn Rice is a postdoctoral fellow based in Vancouver, BC. She is a physical therapist and researcher dedicated to finding strategies to promote healthy aging. While she is passionate about clinical research her love of neuroscience was sparked while studying sea slugs. Outside of the lab you can find her tucked into the mountains, rock climbing, or riding her bike. Learn more about your ad choices. Daniel Friebe and Lionel Birnie return to discuss the latest racing and news in professional cycling - this week with ace TNT commentator Rob Hatch.   We revisit some of the big talking points after the Ronde van Vlaanderen at the weekend, including Mathieu van der Poel's disrupted preparation and what the result means for Eddy Merckx-Tadej Pogačar comparisons.  Of course on Sunday Pogačar could achieve a feat that no one since Merckx has managed - winning Paris-Roubaix as the reigning Tour de France champion. Can he do it? And if not, could the subject of another Coorevits Corner this week, Belgian sweetheart Wout Van Aert, be the man to thwart him?
