We are grateful to have spoken with Guleraana Mir during today's episode. Guleraana is a British award-winning writer, applied-theatre practitioner, and one half of The Thelmas, a female-led theatre company devoted to empowering women to redress the equality imbalance in the arts. She is passionate about telling authentic stories that celebrate, not stereotype. Guleraana regularly facilitates playwriting masterclasses in schools, community groups, and for emerging writers. She is leader of the National Theatre's Writing for Theatre programme for 16-21 year olds, and VAULT Festival's New Writers Programme. She mentors on the MFA Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. In our 10th Episode, Adam Robert Lewis sits down (virtually) with director, Rebecca Atkinson-Lord. Rebecca hails from Wolverhampton and discovered directing while studying Ancient History and Classics at Bristol which fed her passion for brilliant stories. Rebecca went on to study directing at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA). As a director, Rebecca’s work includes new writing, classic and verse drama, modern classics, opera, musical theatre and devised work. In 2008, she founded Arch 468, a theatre development space in Brixton, which is dedicated to finding new ways to create and reflect the arts.Rebecca co-directed theatre at Ovalhouse where she commissioned, developed and co-produced more than 80 new pieces of theatre and raised over £1.5 million for artists and their work. In her tenure at Ovalhouse, Rebecca was nominated for the Off-West End Award for ‘Best Director’ for her production of Cuddles by Joseph Wilde at Ovalhouse. The production subsequently toured the UK before transferring to 59E59 Theatres in Manhattan in 2015, where it was awarded a New York Times Critic's Pick.Rebecca discusses her journey and her most recent project, 'Cautionary Tale', a new British musical about growing up and growing glum. Book and lyrics are both by Rebecca Atkinson- Lord with music by Rebecca Applin. ‘Cautionary Tale’ is the story of Gloaming, a town filled with perfectly ordinary, yet perfectly remarkable people. The inhabitants of Gloaming all have special talents and interests. At its heart, it is a story about finding hope when all seems lost. Since the Pandemic, all workshop performances had to be cancelled. Now, the team behind the musical are giving people the opportunity to stage it in their own homes and share their experiences and recordings online. In this episode Craig talks with director and writer Gbolahan Obisesan.Gbolahan is an award-winning British Nigerian writer and director. He has just been appointed Artistic Director of Brixton House Theatre (formerly Ovalhouse). Prior to this Gbolahan was Genesis Fellow of the Young Vic Theatre. He is currently developing a feature film with Emu Films/Film 4. He was one of the six writers and the only British writer on Rufus Norris’ Feast, commissioned by the Royal Court and The Young Vic for their World Stages London which was produced at The Young Vic, he also directed four plays as part of The Bush Theatre’s epic 66 BOOKS project which ran at the Bush and Westminster Abbey.

I met up and chatted to Titilola Dawudu, who is a writer, director and the author of Hear Me Now: Audition Monologues for Actors of Colour. We chatted about her latest book, working with Tamasha Theatre Company, theatre, representation and Ovalhouse. Titilola Dawudu is the Learning and Participations manager at Ovalhouse Theatre. She, in partnership with Tamasha put together this unique monologue book with 87 different monologues for actors of colour of all ages.
