An insightful sitdown with Dean Chew, co-founder of Singapore-based label Darker Than Wax and the newly opened listening bar Offtrack,..........With a djing journey that has spanned more than 15 years, Dean Chew (aka Funk Bast*rd) has earned praises from a worldwide range of selectors that include the likes of Gilles Peterson, Lefto, Bradley Zero, Alex Kassian, Kamma and Maslao, San Soda, Hugo LX, Dam-Funk, Dreamcastmoe and more. Being the co-founder of Singapore-based label Darker Than Wax and the newly opened listening bar Offtrack, Dean has been tirelessly pushing and promoting an alternative expression of lefteld music through his widely eclectic and genre-bending sets. As the main A+R and creative mind behind DTW, the label has flourished tremendously over the past 5 years, cementing its place as one of the go-to labels out of South East Asia. His musical selections, which traverses across an extensive spectrum from deep jazz to the freshest cuts have left many indelible marks on the dancefloors. A highly respected digger who is also known by many in the circuit for his extensive musical knowledge, technically astute skills, and blends, it's no surprise that he has warmed up or shared the stage with Bradley Zero, Lefto, Alex Kassian, HAAI, Pablo Valentino, Marcellus Pittman, Pearson Sound, the late Mike Huckaby and many more. There's always an element of surprise in his sets - just open them ears.
Happy to have one of our favorite DJ's on the Podcast. San Soda is one of the finest selectors in the game and played at places such as Panorama Bar and Dimensions Festival. Next to collecting records he's busy running his reissue label Music Take Me Up (MTMU), producing a lot of music he's probably never going to release and studying dog psychology. A man of many talents. Hosted by: Youniss Ahamad Produced by: Mathijs Maes Track ID's: Mr Fingers - Mystery Of Love Zohra - Badala Zamana San Soda - You Hear Me FCL - It's You (San Soda's Panorama Bar Acca Version)

From Konotop to Melbourne, via Shelter Amsterdam. Interview with @vakula: melbournedeepcast.net/portfolio/vakula "This mix was recorded at the club Shelter in Amsterdam where I played next to San Soda and Tako. I think it very well describes and reflects me as a DJ and an artist. I think that you just have to listen to it for your body and soul and I hope this does not leave you indifferent."
Belgian duo FCL back at Djoon for an all night long set
Although he has had a fair amount of success as a producer on We Play House (most famously as part of FCL) San Soda is still a DJ first and foremost. The Belgian is a renowned vinyl hoarder who spends most of the time between gigs in places like Chicago, Shanghai and Sydney digging for new beats. Those beats can be anything from afro to funk, disco to deep house, and he threads them together with very little reliance on FX and tricks, instead he prises sequencing and selection over all and can ether hypnotise dancers in elongated groves or switch up the mood with every new track. The mix he has put together for us here is over two hours of seriously feel good stuff that will keep the vibe of summer alive all through winter: lots of funky songs, dazzling disco delights and authentic old school jams get stitched together in effortless ways. Colour and charm, good vibes and unpredictable selection characterise the whole thing and confirm San Soda to be a party starting DJ with slick skills to match his sick selections.
They say life begins 40, not to sure about that personally, however the deep vibes are strong in the 40th episode of the Sunk Afinity Sessions! First track from two amazing ladies I'm lucky enough to know.. Miss Luna and Rescue Poetix - Chances (Divided Souls & Samuri Remix). Two excellent as always tracks from Rishi K and new stuff from San Soda, Jazzmatik.... Enjoy the show and thanks for listening.

Next up in Avenue Red 1210 series, where 12 records are played that are 10+ years old, we have Red D AKA Bart Van Neste from Gent, Belgium. Also known as FCL in allegiance with fellow Belgian DJ/producer San Soda, Bart is the owner of We Play House Records and did the 5th episode of the main Avenue Red Podcast series. "Here I present 12 x 12”, all older than 10 years. I took a while to curate this set of records - I finally decided on making a mix of Belgian club classics from the early-to-mid 90's when there were not forests of sub-genres and Trance was not yet a dirty word! So what you're getting is the raw sound of the Belgian underground clubs around 94/95, very much what inspired me to take up DJ'ing more seriously..." For the 9th Episode of our podcast series we welcome a deep mix from the man behind Fullbar, Arthur Barr. It showcases current and forthcoming releases from the now 2 year running label. **About Fullbarr** Northern label Fullbarr already has a reputation to belie its young age; one that eschews hype and big names for sonic freshness and musical maturity. “It’s all a bit of fun,” says founder Arthur Barr in a typically self-effacing style. “But it’s also a labour of love. I really want to continue to build on this little collective and want to continue expressing my eclectic tastes.” So far the likes of Brendon Moeller, fast rising talents Samaan and Youandewan, Classic boss Luke Solomon and German minimalist Losoul have all chipped in to Fullbarr’s small but well formed back catalogue, joining the dots been deepest dub, groove-laden house and moody techno. But don’t just take my word for it: check the tracklists of people like Seth Troxler, Xhin, Paul Woolford, The Revenge and many more high profile spinners, all of whom found space for a Fullbarr track or two in their sets this past year. From seedy teenage beginnings swigging vodka and providing beats at Ibizan strip joints ,to skilful A&R and respected head of a burgeoning label, Arthur Barr is the man behind all this, and is now curating his first compilation. “I wanted to encapsulate the label in 70 minutes” states the twenty something from Bradford. “I am hoping it may provoke people into further exploring the back catalogue as I will be giving it away on various blogs and in certain clubs and record stores around Europe.” Hung up on the idea of organic growth rather than social media saturation, Fullbarr puts as much focus on vinyl presses, nice artwork and close connections with artists - on both personal and professional levels - as anything else. Naturally, that means the most important thing is the music, and whether it makes the boss feel something, rather than how many units it may or may not shift. “The label and I are inspired and influenced by good liquor, sunrises, friends, Soma, Smallville and a whole load of other stuff that doesn’t matter” says the boss, before shining a light on the coming months. “Watch out for releases from Luke Solomon, Losoul, Kalabrese, Samaan, Vince Watson, Immer, San Soda, Hans Berg and Le Jockey, all in the first half of 2012.” Have a listen and get taken on a journey through the deep hypnotic sound of Fullbarr releases current and upcoming...

This installment is brought to you by Bristol's Lukas. Lukas is one half of 'The Runners' who are best know for their releases on Dirt Crew, and destroying dance-floors from Bristol to Berlin (including the legendary Bar 25). ''With this mix I've traced a musical line between the first sets I played at Just Jack up to the present day. This isn't a collection of this month's latest tracks: I've dug out the likes of Will Saul's tech-house classic 'Pause' and the Noir disco of 'Round the House' (one of Tensnake's darker moments) - as they remind me so much of the early Just Jack parties. Over an hour we catch up to the present, with the organic wiggle of 'Every Cow has a Bird' and the classic deep house sound of San Soda, via a bit of Soundstream. Along the way, there's a few nice exclusives for this mix, including some bits from me that you won't have heard before.''
