Many times we have had guests that we consider to be proverbial brothers, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time we have interviewed literal siblings. Of course we're referring to Brooklyn's finest, the production duo of DJ Evil Dee and Mr. Walt, collectively known as Da Beatminerz. This was a great conversation, as the hilarious, gregarious brothers have been involved in so many classic hip-hop moments and releases. We get deep on Soundbombing, Smif N Wessun, the division of labor among the crew, and much much more. DBRP hosts Demone Carter, David Ma and Nate LeBlanc list their favorite Beatminerz beats (kind of a tough choice when there are so many great ones to choose from) and discuss various other hip-hop sibling groups and family bands. This podcast is only one of the fine programs available due to the largess of the Stony Island Audio network.

B. Cox reviews Brooklyn and Diggin in The Crates (DITC) emcee O.C.'s second album Jewelz as it turns 25. After his critically acclaimed 1994 debut album Word...Life, O.C. took to the road to tour exclusively for almost three years. When he returned to the booth to record his sophomore album, he did so with an all-star cast of producers. Along with the returning DITC crew member BuckWild, who contributed production heavily on his debut, he also welcomed the likes of heavyweights DJ Premier, Mr. Walt from The Beatminerz, DJ Ogee and fellow DITC affiliates Showbiz and Lord Finesse.Featuring a slightly grittier sound than the jazz infused sound of his debut, O.C. spit his expert storytelling narratives and flexed his lyrical prowess with guest spots from Freddie Foxx, R&B singer Yvette Michele and the late great Big L, who was also a fellow DITC crew member. The album featured one single, "Far From Yours" with Michele, which reached #81 on the Billboard Hot 100.While not commercially successful, the album has been hailed as both an underground and cult classic and further solidified respect for OC as a lyricist and artist as he avoided the dreaded "sophomore slump."Visit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comSupport The Vault Classic Music Review on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodShow NotesO.C.'s 'Jewelz' Turns 20 | Anniversary Retrospectivehttps://albumism.com/features/tribute-celebrating-20-years-of-oc-jewelzAmbrosia For Heads: O.C. THE INFAMOUS ANNUAL MIX MASTER WEEKEND TO KICK OFF THE SUMMER FROM BEATMINERZ RADIO... PURE RETRO VIBES FROM START TO FINISH...
Shortie No Mass talks extensively about her involvement with Buhloone Mindstate. She was there at all the sessions ready to lend adlibs, a verse, whatever De La wanted. She basically lived with royalty both in Philadelphia with members of The Roots and then in NYC with the Beatminerz. Her story is one of love and passion for an art-form she never let control her. In this interview she also touches on working with her son who is producing her new album along with Posdnous's brother, Lucky and where she would buy property if she could buy anything anywhere in the world. She has a very specific answer for that! Tune in and find out! B. Cox & J. Owe look back at Heltah Skeltah's debut album Nocturnal. It was the first offering by Rock and Ruck (bka the late Sean Price) and the 3rd album released by the hip-hop collective Boot Camp Clik (BCC). Following the success and acclaim of Enta Tha Stage and Dah Shinin by their labelmates, the duo cranked out a project narrated by rugged, yet skilled rhymes over dark and haunting production by the Beatminerz, Buckshot, Lord Jamar, Shawn J Period, E-Swift and others. While not commercially acclaimed, the album became an underground and cult classic.Follow The Vault on IG: @vaultcmrpodcastFollow The Vault on Twitter: @VaultClassicSubscribe to the Vault on Youtube: The Vault: Classic Music Reviews PodcastShow notes:Albumism: Happy 25th Anniversary to Heltah Skeltah's 'Nocturnal'https://www.albumism.com/anniversaries/heltah-skeltah-debut-album-nocturnalWhatWentRight.com: What Went Right With...'Nocturnal' by Heltah Skeltah?https://whatwentrightwith.com/2016/06/18/what-went-right-with-heltah-skeltah-nocturnal/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
