It's 395 BCE and we explore the events that are the result of the epic year of 396 BCE. The Romans ended 396 BCE on a high with their military success against the southern-most city of the Etruscans, Veii. But is all well in the Roman world? That may depend on which god you talk to…An incomplete victory? The defeat of Veii leaves the northern peoples - the Capenates and Faliscans - open to Rome's wrath. Their resistance to Rome means that war is on Rome's agenda. This may also explain why we see military tribunes with consular power.A great time for some Roman colonising?Despite the threats to the north, Rome seems intent on setting up a new colony down south towards Volscian territory. Does Rome really have the resources to spare for such an endeavour after a ten-year siege and problems north of Veii? Well, historians have some questions about that! What's up Apollo?Camillus' glorious leadership in taking Veii seems to be undermined by the his vow to Apollo which he had apparently forgotten. This creates real problems as the 10th portion to be offered to Apollo was not collected when the booty was distributed and now people OWE the gods… Will Camillus' reputation emerge unscathed?Things to listen out forIs Veii more attractive to the plebeians than Rome? Scandal!A proposal to send half of Rome's population, patricians and plebeians to Veii - a classic case of Porque Lo Nos Dos?Some very grumpy patricians playing the ‘Romulus' cardBlaming Titus Sicinius for putting ideas into the plebeians' headsConnections with Greek history…A beautiful golden bowl!Drama in Sicily including an appearance from Magon the CarthaginianOur PlayersMilitary Tribunes with Consular PowerPublius Cornelius P. f. Love should be the natural reponse of a Christian because we are a product of love. We love simply because we are indebted to love one another. Love should be sincer. For we know we have passed from death to life because we love the brethren. Owe no man nothing but love

Owe no man nothing, says the scripture. The fact remains, however, that every single American is in debt, EVERY ONE OF US. Every day of every month, we owe someone something. That debt could be as normal as a phone bill, electric bill, cell phone or cable bill, or currently repayable credit card bills. But, we always owe something if we wish to live in any reasonable way in this world. What that debt admonition means is that we ought not to owe anything which we cannot repay in the present in whole or in part. None of us could own a home unless we were able to borrow a mortgage for 10, 20 or 30 years, and make the monthly payments with interest thereon. If we can repay that 30-year debt on a monthly basis and timely so, that is a manageable obligation and not the kind of debt proscribed by scripture.Debt, unpayable debt, and especially that debt which accumulates with interest, sometimes as much or almost so as the debt principle itself is crushing. It is always there, its presence a constant reminder that so much of the future has been mortgaged and that our present spending endangers and preempts our options for the future. Families are ruined by that kind of debt. So are marriages. Profligate businesses go bankrupt and governments, nations and states which over-borrow and accumulate crushing interest obligations sacrifice the future for the present. They kick the financial can down the road. And that, my fellow Americans, is the pathway and the financial condition of our beloved America. Our once great country, operating on a current budget, the financial envy of the world, the dollar the hallmark of financial stability, is now the unbelievable debtor in the amount of:$36 TRILLION DOLLARS.$36 Trillion Dollars. As incredible, hard to believe, and frightening as that number is, the interest America pays on those $36 trillion dollars of debt is now at or about:$1.3 TRILLION DOLLARS ANNUALLY.$1.3 Trillion dollars in interest alone! That means, my fellow Americans, that every American household owes as much as $275,000 of that debt. Or that also means that every tax paying person in America, every citizen, owes the sum of approximately $110,000 to our creditors, foreigners and foreign nations, and American business entities and individuals. $275,000 PER HOUSEHOLD and $110,000 PER PERSON. That is the kind of debt with interest that scripture so aggressively warns against. But we do nothing, our leaders do nothing to stop the bleeding and solve the problem. The overwhelming debt problem. But some day, we will have no choice but to deal with this horrendous financial reckoning.Economists now believe that the nation's debt of at or about $36 Trillion Dollars is indeed an existential threat to our great country, and to us, we the people. The fact of the matter is that America does not owe this debt, we do. WE, THE PEOPLE, the citizens of this great country owe that $36 trillion dollars, with its unbelievable annual interest burdens. WE OWE THAT MONEY! And someday, we will have to pay it. What an unbelievable effect that will have on our lifestyles and our future. That existential threat threatens our very existence! But our Federal Government continues in its profligate way. It spends, and it spends more. It never seems to care because it can postpone the debt, financing even more of its spending, and it always has what it thinks is the fail-safe remedy, and that is:TAXATION.More taxation, more taxes, for we the people to pay.And more bad financial news. Economists estimate that by the year 2034, a decade from now, America will add $20 trillion dollars to its debt of $36 trillion dollars, which would put our country in debt by the staggering sum of $56 trillion dollars, $56 TRILLION DOLLARS! And some economists think those estimates are conservative, believing that the real debt will be as high as $60 trillion dollars or even more if spending continues as is. That would also mean that the annual interest alone on that staggering debt would be somewhere between $2 Trillion and $2.5 Trillion Dollars Annually, and possibly more. In the year 2034, our total debt will be approximately 120% of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP). And hear these words carefully:NO NATION HAS EVER CARRIED THAT KIND OF GOVERNMENT-DRIVEN DEBT AND ESCAPED CALAMITY. NOT ONE GOVERNMENT IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF MANKIND HAS EVER SPENT OR WILL SPEND WHAT WE AMERICANS ARE AND ESCAPED ABSOLUTE AND TOTAL DISASTER AND CALAMITY.Not to worry, say the Democrats in charge and in power and seeking four more years of spending privileges, assuming the election of Harris-Walz. We will simply tax the rich more and more. Even if there is a sharp rise in the tax rates for the wealthy, that meager amount of additional income would never begin to seriously pay down the debt which our once fiscally responsible America now owes and will owe ten years from now.But that day of reckoning will come when we the people will pay an unbelievable price for the profligate way our Federal Government spends our money and accumulates this strangling, bankrupting debt.Regarding the so-called rich, the top 1% of Americans in terms of earnings reported 26.3% of the country's adjusted gross income and paid accordingly:Almost 46% of total income taxes! All the rest of America's taxpayers, 99% of them, paid the grand total of 54% of all taxes. But there is never any effort to tax more the 54% but only the so-called rich and wealthy 46%. That is fiscal policy which leads to absolute disaster!Even more interesting, the top 10% of all earners in America provided 76% of the total revenue, tax revenue, and the other 90% of taxpayers provided 24% of tax revenue. If you were not one of the so-called wealthy, you have really gotten off cheap by taxing comparison. Our great country, We The People, face the ever-present possibility of default in payments to our creditors, now $36 trillion dollars and in 10 years to be some $60 trillion dollars. That default of any serious kind would set off a major depression and fiscal revolution THE WORLD OVER. That economic crisis could well ruin the world. There would also exist in America HYPERINFLATION. That is what occurred in Germany where the German Mark was absolutely worthless. If those tragic and calamitous conditions arise in America, our dollar will be just like that Mark and virtually worthless itself. That debt-caused disaster will produce incredible internal instability, even revolution, and the very real potential of the destruction of law and order. It could also occasion the rise of dictatorship, as the very same fiscal problems in Germany gave rise to Adolf Hitler and it would undoubtedly be the end of our great democracy. But, my fellow Americans, that debt and the problems it causes, are:OUR FAULT.Our responsibility. We the People allowed that debt to happen. We continue one election after another to elect a president, a senate, a house of representatives which do nothing, absolutely nothing about the problem, continue to spend, talk the talk but never walk the walk, and again do absolutely nothing about this incredible end-of-America problem, nothing but nothing. But the day of economic reckoning comes, and we will pay, WE WILL PAY! Or, our children and grandchildren will pay. The life and lifestyle which they hope for and work for will never materialize and the America we now know will never be the America they will ever know. What America once was fiscally and economically will be nothing more than an historical footnote.Wake up, my fellow Americans, please wake up. You vote, you elect these politicians to represent you. You allow them to spend your money, to tax you, to do as they please with YOUR money but the one thing they never do is hold themselves accountable for the way they spend your money, the fiscal problems they are causing, and the insurmountable debt they are creating, which may very well never be repaid. That of course would be the end of the democratic America we now love and enjoy. But again, we have no one to blame but ourselves. We the People allow these reckless economically indifferent or ignorant politicians to do what they please, spend our money as we will, and we continue to do nothing:NOTHINGabout that spending or them. When this disaster, this calamity occurs, we will have no one to blame but:OURSELVES – WE THE PEOPLE!
This episode shares how we are to perfect the love of God in our lives, but we must remember that we love because He first loved us. As believers, we are born of the Spirit of love. We have God's love within us, and we owe [have an obligation] to share His love with others. We must allow His love to flow from our lives. The Greek word for God's love is "agape," the unconditional and sacrificial love of God, which put His Son on the cross in our place for our sins. There are other words used for love in the Scriptures, such as "phileo" [brotherly love] and "storge" [affectionate love], but only "agape" is used for God's love. The word "eros" for physical love is not used in the Scriptures. We're not to keep God's love stored inside us for safekeeping, but we are to give it to others. The apostle Paul wrote: "Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, 'You shall not commit adultery,' 'You shall not steal,' 'You shall not bear false witness,' 'You shall not covet,' and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law" (Romans 13:8-10, NKJV). If we are to fulfill the law, then we'll be "loving our neighbor as we love ourselves." We are not to do any harm to our brothers and sisters in the Lord, but don't we? At times, we speak evil of others, but we are called to perfect the love of God in our lives and in out thoughts. This way we can be effective representatives of God on earth as the light of the world. By perfecting God's love in our lives, we not only meet the requirements of the Law of God, but also the criminal and civil laws. Romans, chapter 13 continues: "And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lust" (Romans 13:11-14, NKJV). Join me as we look into the importance of the love of God and how to manifest it. "Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm, for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame." Song of Solomon 8:6 In the tapestry of our lives, love weaves the most vibrant threads. As we journey through the valleys and mountaintops, let us hold fast to the words of the Song of Solomon: “Place me like a seal over your heart...for love is as strong as death...” (Song of Solomon 8:6-7). This profound declaration serves as a reminder that love is not merely an emotion but a divine force, unyielding and eternal. I remember the story of a couple who, amidst life's journey, chose to celebrate their small moments together. Whether it was sharing a quiet cup of tea at dawn or dancing in the kitchen under the soft glow of evening light, they understood that these fleeting moments were treasures to be cherished. Each shared smile and gentle touch became a testament to their commitment, echoing the beauty that love brings into our lives. Song of Solomon 8:7 says, "Mighty waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If a man were to give all the wealth of his house for love, his offer would be utterly scorned." As we reflect on these moments, let us remember the wisdom found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, which states that love is patient, and love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. In this way, we are called not only to receive love but also to give it freely and abundantly. When shadows loom overhead, let us cling to the truth that “love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:8). Each challenge can be transformed into an opportunity to deepen our bonds and strengthen our resolve. We are reminded that through every trial, love remains our anchor—a sanctuary where we find solace and strength. Amen. Romans 13:8 says, "Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law." Amen. Prayer for the Day!Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of love that transcends time and space. Help us to cherish every moment with those we hold dear, understanding that each shared breath is a glimpse of Your grace. May we embody Your love in all our interactions, reflecting Your light in a world that often forgets its beauty. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Send us a textRomans 13:1-14 KJV Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. (2) Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. (3) For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: (4) For he is the minister of God to thee for good. They say that money is a good servant but a terrible master—especially when it comes to debt.Surveys show that taking on debt ranks near the top of the list of financial regrets. Debt can make profound changes in your life and have spiritual consequences. Sharon Epps joins us to talk about that today.Sharon Epps is the President of Kingdom Advisors, our parent organization. Kingdom Advisors is a group dedicated to training financial professionals to guide and advise you according to biblical principles.Four Key Uses of Money: Live, Give, Owe, and GrowMany of us face the challenge of managing debt, but approaching it with biblical principles can transform the way we handle our finances. To help simplify money management, we can divide our finances into four categories: Live, Give, Owe, and Grow. These categories are like slices of a pie. Since the pie is limited, enlarging one slice means another must shrink. This analogy helps us view money as a finite resource that requires intentional stewardship. Today, we'll focus on the "Owe" slice—debt—and explore biblical principles related to it.What Does the Bible Say About Debt?Contrary to popular belief, the Bible does not say that borrowing money is inherently sinful. However, debt is described as enslaving and can negatively impact relationships and decision-making. Proverbs 22:7 warns, “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.” While debt isn't labeled evil, its consequences make it something to approach cautiously.Biblical Principles for Handling DebtSharon highlighted three key principles to guide believers in managing debt:1. Repay What You BorrowPsalm 37:21 teaches, “The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously.” This verse underscores the importance of integrity in financial commitments. Paying back what we owe reflects God's righteousness in our lives.2. Free Yourself from Debt QuicklyProverbs 22:7 reminds us of the dangers of debt, urging us to escape its grip as soon as possible. Carrying debt limits our freedom and creates unnecessary burdens.3. Serve God, Not MoneyJesus' words in Matthew 6:24—“No one can serve two masters”—remind us that our ultimate allegiance should be to God. Debt can become a competing “master” if we're not careful, dictating our decisions and priorities.Practical Steps for Tackling DebtIf you're struggling with debt, here are three actionable steps Sharon recommends:1. PrayBegin by committing your financial challenges to God. Align your heart with His will and ask for His guidance and provision.2. Save MoneyIt might seem counterintuitive to focus on debt, but it's essential to build an emergency fund—at least $1,000. This "debt insurance" prevents you from falling back into debt when unexpected expenses arise.3. Pay Off Consumer Debt FirstPrioritize paying off credit card and consumer debt. If you feel overwhelmed, seek help from organizations like Christian Credit Counselors, who can help you lower interest rates and accelerate debt repayment. Their debt management programs can help you pay off debt up to 80% faster by reducing interest rates. Visit Christian Credit Counselors to learn more.Managing debt wisely is about more than just financial health; it's about aligning our lives with God's principles. By following biblical guidance, we can experience the freedom to live, give, and serve as God intended. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'm wondering how I can ensure I'm working with a financial advisor who is a fiduciary and puts my needs first rather than just pushing their own products and limited options.I have a 13-year-old son who has been making money doing yard work and lawn care. In this message in Luke 6, Jesus is emphasizing the four essentials for true happiness. First, He deals with our attitude toward circumstances (vv. 20-26). We should respond to whatever circumstances that we encounter with faith in God's love for us and His sovereignty over them and our lives. Next, in the verses before us today Jesus is addressing our attitude toward people and how we should always respond to them. (vv. 27-36). Jesus wants His disciples and the multitudes that He is addressing on this particular occasion to “hear” and understand that true happiness, blessedness, joy, and peace comes from their attitude of the heart. And of course, this message is very much intended for all of us today. A change of the heart is what all of us need that gives us a different outlook and a different response to the problems and difficulties of life that we face on a daily basis. God allows bumps in the road that we might step on them and learn daily dependance on Him. He allows mountains in our lives so that we might climb higher in our relationship with Him. He allows giants in our lives, so we are challenged to grow stronger and live by faith in His love and care for us. We are told in Ephesians 5:16 to “redeem the time because the days are evil”. Literally this means to “buy up the opportunities” that come from evil times. In other words, all the evil people and tough things we face in life are only opportunities for us to trust God and reveal His love and grace to the lost world around us! In verses 27-36, Jesus is primarily dealing with our attitude toward people that are difficult to deal with that come into lives. Nothing can cause us to be upset, angry, irritated, fearful, or worried more than people. Someone called these people, “People that need extra grace”. Jesus is giving us practical instructions on the attitude and response we should have toward them. And beginning in verse 32, Jesus gives us the underlying reason behind having this kind of attitude. Read verses 32 to 36 again. Paul deals with this same issue in Ephesians 4:23-32. Notice these verses from that passage: “Be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness…don't give place to the devil…And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.” In Romans 12 and 13, Paul clearly states the attitude we as believers should have toward those who hurt or offend us: “Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:17-21). He continues in Romans 13:8-10 with these words: “Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not bear false witness," "You shall not covet," and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” Jesus reminds us that we should extend mercy to others in the same way God our Father has given mercy and forgiveness to us when we didn't deserve it! May the Lord help us by His Spirit to practice this with others today! God bless!

Our father and heaven will pull us out again and again again and finally we got the education to stay out of debt we are learning! It takes a lot of failure to learn! so start thanking God for your failure and we will learn quicker faster. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fernando-m-de-oca/support
The Fed is scheduled to meet next week. Will it lower interest rates again? With one rate cut already on the books and perhaps two more coming before the end of the year…folks are wondering what effect all this will have on mortgages and home sales. Dale Vermillion joins us today to talk about it.Dale Vermillion is the author of Navigating the Mortgage Maze: The Simple Truth About Financing Your Home. This book covers everything you need to know about securing a mortgage—all from a biblical perspective.Current Mortgage Rate TrendsWith recent shifts in the economy, many are wondering about mortgage rates and how decisions from the Federal Reserve impact them. While the Fed recently lowered interest rates by half a percent, the market already anticipated this move. Mortgage rates dropped nearly a full percent before the Fed's decision, but they've since started to climb back up. Currently, the national average for mortgage rates sits between 6.30% and 6.40%, and experts predict that they will remain in the low to mid-6% range for the rest of the year. For those hoping rates drop below 5%, it's unlikely to happen anytime soon. Leading analysts say we likely won't see those numbers until 2025 or later.Despite the changes in interest rates, home sales have remained relatively flat. While there has been a slight increase in home purchases, with mortgage locks up by 8% from last year, the real activity may come from new construction. Existing homeowners are holding on to their properties due to the so-called "rate lock effect," where people are reluctant to sell because they have locked in low mortgage rates. However, once rates drop, we'll most likely see a surge in home sales around 2025 and 2026.Should You Buy or Refinance Now?For those trying to decide whether to buy a home or refinance, there are pros and cons in every market, but several factors are working in favor of buyers right now:Lower Rates: While mortgage rates aren't at historic lows, they are lower than they've been in recent years.Less Competition: With fewer buyers in the market, now is an opportune time to find a home without the fierce competition of a booming market. If you're renting, it may be a good time to buy as long as you can afford the monthly payments. Buying a home builds equity and provides tax benefits, making it a financially sound decision for many. When it comes to refinancing, do not refinance if it means extending the term of your mortgage. Extending your loan term will wipe out any savings you gain from a lower rate, costing you tens of thousands of dollars in the long run. Only refinance if you can lower your payment while keeping or shortening your mortgage term.Seeking Wisdom in Home FinancingBiblical principles should guide all of our financial decisions, including home financing. Romans 13:8 tells us, "Owe no one anything except to love each other." This verse reminds us that as stewards of God's resources, we should aim to live debt-free and manage our finances responsibly.Navigating the mortgage market can be challenging, but by staying informed and grounded in biblical principles, you can make wise decisions that honor God and secure your financial future. Whether buying your first home or considering a refinance, start with a budget and avoid taking on unnecessary debt. Always ensure your financial decisions align with God's Word and your long-term financial goals. For more insights on mortgage financing and faith-based financial wisdom, you can explore Dale's book, Navigating the Mortgage Maze: The Simple Truth About Financing Your Home, and continue to seek guidance on making informed, biblically sound decisions in your financial life.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I need to change investment companies from Vanguard, as they are becoming more digital-focused. I'm 63, my wife is 65, and we're in pretty good health, but I hope we have quite a few more years before that would be necessary. We're at the point in our lives where we need to downsize, so I was wondering if we need to tithe on our sale before investing in another primary residence when we sell our primary home and purchase another one.Resources Mentioned:Navigating the Mortgage Maze: The Simple Truth About Financing Your Home by Dale VermillionList of Faith-Based Investment FundsLook At The Sparrows: A 21-Day Devotional on Financial Fear and AnxietyRich Toward God: A Study on the Parable of the Rich FoolFind a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) or Certified Christian Financial Counselor (CertCFC)FaithFi App Remember, you can call in to ask your questions most days at (800) 525-7000.
There are 5 competing priorities for the use of our money; Live, Give, Owe (debt), Owe (taxes), Grow. When anyone becomes dominant over the others our finances veer into unhealthy places. In the push and pull that happens in our financial management our relationship with God and being good stewards of the resources he has blessed us with always centers us squarely in healthy fiscal wisdom.

Margin is one of those important things in life that we often take for granted … and that can lead to trouble.Margin basically means “something extra.” A little extra time or even distance from the car in front of you. It's critical, especially with your finances. I'll talk about financial margin today.Applying Margin to Personal FinancesWhen you think of "margin," you might associate it with the business term "profit margin." This concept is crucial in business, as it determines a company's profit after all expenses. Every step of bringing a product to market involves multiple entities—manufacturers, salespeople, transporters, and retailers—all needing to make a profit. The margin each entity needs can vary widely depending on the product, competition, market size, and sales volume. For example, in business, margin in personal finances means having something left over after meeting all your obligations. This isn't just about money but also about time and energy. After fulfilling job duties, family commitments, household chores, and church obligations, it's essential to have time and energy left to recharge and spend with God.Financial margin means having extra funds for unexpected expenses, like emergencies, medical bills, or helping others when God prompts you. Achieving this requires living on a budget or spending plan, which helps you decide in advance where your money will go.The Four Uses of MoneyThere are only four things you can do with money:Live on it.Give it away.Owe it to someone.Grow it.A budget helps you allocate your money into these four categories in advance, unlike balancing a checkbook, which only shows where your money went.Creating a Budget for Financial MarginUsing a budget is critical to creating financial margin. It allows you to plan your spending and ensure you have money left over at the end of the month. If you have more month left than money, you'll need to make changes—either by increasing your income or reducing your expenses. The goal is to live on less than you make, avoiding debt and saving for the future. The FaithFi app is an excellent tool for setting up your budget. It uses the envelope system and offers three ways to create a budget, making the process simple. By planning out your spending decisions, you can ensure you have financial margin.Benefits of Financial MarginYou may also have more physical and emotional margin when you achieve financial margin. You'll sleep better, feel more relaxed, and be better able to use your spiritual gifts to serve God and help others.Margin is essential in both business and personal finances. By living on a budget and creating financial margin, you'll be prepared for unexpected expenses and able to live a more balanced, fulfilling life. Remember, having margin isn't just about money—it's also about having time and energy to spend with God and your loved ones.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:Are schools required to offer a Roth 401k option for their employees, or is it optional? When we come to Joshua 22, the conquest of the Promise Land by the twelve tribes of Israel is complete. The battles have been fought and won. The inheritance of the land has been successfully distributed to all the tribes. It is at this point, after seven years of battles, in Joshua 22:1-4, that Joshua gives a honorable discharge to the two tribes of Reuben and Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh and the first thing he did was to commend them (Josh. 22:1-3). Then in Joshua 22:4, Joshua released them from the army. Having fulfilled their mission and kept their promise, the tribes were now free to go home; for God had given His people rest. Now in verse 5, Joshua admonished them (Josh. 22:5). Like any good leader, Joshua was more concerned about the spiritual walk of his people than anything else. The army had experienced victory in Canaan because Joshua loved the Lord and obeyed His Word (1:7-8), and that would be the "open secret" of Israel's continued peace and prosperity. Just as they had been diligent in battle, obeying. their commander, so they must be diligent in worship, obeying the Lord their God. This was the promise each of the tribes made to the Lord at Mt. Gerizim and Mt. Ebal. The motive for their obedience had to be love for the Lord their God. If they loved Him, then they would delight in walking in all His ways and obeying all His commandments. Instead of trying to serve two masters, they would cling to the Lord and serve Him alone, with all their heart and soul. Jesus in His first recorded message in Matthew 6:24 reminds us that, "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” In Matthew 22:36-38, Jesus said that to love the Lord and keep His commandments was the first and greatest commandment; therefore, to disobey it would mean to commit the greatest sin. Jesus told His disciples in John 14:15, "If you love Me, keep My commandments". You might remember in John 21, after His resurrection Jesus was with His disciples at the Sea of Galilee. When He was restoring Peter to fellowship because of his miserable failure in the garden where he denied his Lord, Jesus asked Peter three times, “Do you love me?” (John 21:15-17). All of our failures in obeying the Lord are “love failures”. With each answer that Peter gave affirming his love, Jesus responded by telling Peter to feed and care for His lambs and sheep. In other words, we give proof of our love to the Lord by loving and caring for others. Remember the second part of the great commandment is to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:38-39). Paul makes this very clear in Romans 13:8-10; “Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not bear false witness," "You shall not covet," and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” Since the two tribes of Gad and Reuben, and the half tribe of Manasseh were on the border of Israel, they were the very first people of God that the visitors to Israel would encounter. For them to be the testimony and witness that God intended them to be it was very important that they were loving one another. The same is true of us today! God bless!

The ReadingsRomans 13:1-10English Standard VersionLet every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience. For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. Find Me On Broadway 001: {VEEP} (AN OWSLA CONFIDENTIAL EXCLUSIVE} FROM GOOGLE “Veep” 2012 ‧ Sitcom ‧ 7 seasons "Politics is about people," former Sen. Selina Meyer is fond of saying. Unfortunately, the people Meyer, a charismatic leader and rising star in her party, meets after becoming vice president are nothing like she expected, but everything she was warned about. "Veep" follows the VP as she puts out political fires, juggles her public schedule and private life, and does everything within her limited powers to improve her dysfunctional relationship with the chief executive. Meyer's trusted -- and some not-so-trusted -- sidekicks include chief of staff Amy, one-time spokesperson Mike, and right-hand man Gary. “The New Adventures of Old Supacree” This is not what I intentioned. Well, what had you intentioned, dammit , how do you spell her name? Spell it? I can barely say it! “C'cx– WRONG. How would you say this name. Axel? Thas' a stupid name Not for a Rockstar. That's already a rockstar Is it? Whatever, man. The Rock must have been buzzing in some sort of special way on this day; because for some reason, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I had finally rearranged the remainder of my seemingly new surroundings— the miniature Keurig— a status symbol, of course— looked handsome on the work desk— the cat tree seemed to match, though with no actual feesible monetary income,, no actual cat, and no end in sight— the tree itself would have to be enough to lift my spirits. It was a nice cat tree, almost untouched and looking very brand new— though the couch had a few scratches, though easily hidden with the decorative use of a couple throws—at least I had a couch, and all that was left to accomplish before fully enjoying was to arrange an order of Febreeze to rid it of its previous owner's dandruff smell, and general mismanagement—besides that, it was itself almost brand new as well, and it seemed a strange new world to wake up in, after sleeping in a nearly empty apartment for 6 months; there was 6 months left in my lease, and I was getting nervous that they would try to push me out—hopefully I would find someplace better, or at the very least higher up—with the same amenities intact. Still, I was working as diligently as in could on organizing—at least the recordings, to put together the next group of projects as quickly as I could— nevermind the writing—and there was so, so much of it, I hadn't a clue what to do. I had been avoiding Rockefeller Plaza like the plague for quite sometime—it always made me nervous in a sort of way I didn't understand, in that I would pulsate and vibrate differently, and more often times than not, was upset and concerned that I had yet to go to the top—a costly feat—nor could I afford to entertain or enjoy any of the amusements at the bottom—not that I wanted to, as the older I got, and especially the longer time spent in New York, the more off putting the public and large crowds were—particularly after a remarkably disgusting respiratory infection I caught on new years, battling a crowd which became impossible to move through at all—let alone see the ball drop—and I had learned my lesson, especially after The Macy's Day parade; the crowds in New York were disgustingly unbearable, and in order to get a good view of anything, you would have to arrive nearly a full day early, and simply camp—now I knew why people packed around collapsible lawn chairs on holiday weekends. I had been blindsided by Fallon towards the end of the Macy's day parade—I hadn't any clue at all that he apparentlyboarticipated annually, as it had been years since I had watched the parade myself with my parents—and still, it was iconic—I always wanted to go. Still, and even though I had only written very little of him up to that point, I found it disasterous that as his name was announced and the float which carried him and The Roots, the best late night band on Television, not by opinion, but by fact—as I had most recently been studying and researching as thoroughly as I could all of the late night hosts since the dawning of Television in preparation to write this pilot, The TV People, short handed to TVP—and just then I recalled a dream from the night before, about Pat Kirkpatrick—for the first time in the dream world, it wasn't Fallon at all, but Pat Kirkpatrick. I couldn't remember the dream, nor could I seemingly work myself out of the rut that had been the plateau in writing the show—the show itself was heavy, with so many characters, all of which each had been given detailed and specific personalities, livelihoods, and backgrounds—in fact, I hadn't written anything in such a way since college, with detail—actually, I had never written anything so detailed at all, so character oriented that the character analyses filled entire pages of documents with excruciating vividness, as if these people were real. Well, now they were—and Fallon was neither Patrick as I was Esha, and the story has taken its own form, still however birthing an incredibly awkward and romanticized fascination and near obsession with the TV people themselves—not that I would feed it to be so. I blocked out the news outlets, the media, the alrogithm's suggestions to watch bits and pieces of Fallon, though, however, I refused, and somehow, I didn't need it. Fearfully so, he was somewhere lodged deep somewhere inside of me—and I was even sort of embarrassed to have written some of the things I had of his essence, however prophetic it seemed to be, that for about a three week period between April and May, I seemed to have gone off into a trance of sorts, writing for hours and experiencing vivid visions of this show, The TV Prople, alongside writing The Festival Project ™ And all of its markers—there were so many worlds, so many ways throughout them—and now as I had realized, I had actually been writing about Fallon nearly as long as I had been writing about Sonny, but differently. I had never of course come face to face with Fallon as I had the latter—and still—found it somewhat nessecary to hide my face beneath a mask as his float passed my viewing spaf , an elevated view from the staircase of some church, which had happened to be perfect—and although I was certain it's not as if he was looking for or at me—I had just then been writing of this Cosmic Avenger, and hadn't any idea at the time of Fallon in reality having been an actual magician, and still— with cameras everywhere, and knowing even what I had written—I didn't want to be caught by any passing cameras with any sort of blush or worse—a smile on my face as the float passed— a smile which would flash my atrocious gap-tooth and crooked smile I was sure was permanent, by then having been in the homeless shelter nearly a year. As soon as his name was announced, I promptly pulled up my mask, hiding under my sunglasses. I had already been caught on camera earlier in the parade gawking at some float—now was not the time to be caught gawking again. He, like Rob Lowe seemed impeccably professional and well-rehearsed, like a cartoon character— he was, after all, kind of a cartoon character, however now, even if it was partly due to my own writing, I took him more seriously. There was a darkness about him— a sometimes glassy-eyed, almost scary darkness that told me, even a world away, not to fuck with this dude—some kind of animal or monster I was sure we both shared, however mine more the type and category of insatable and undernourished and his more peaking its head out in the form of a multi-millionaire network puppet, which housed an untamable powerhouse of musicianship, manhood, and wit— it's true, I was finally scared of him, knowing after all what the true tears of a clown could be, a dangerous man in a uniformed suit, the Everyman for the programmed masses, and the funny man with a jig to dance, a story to tell, and an indoor life— secret realm within I was sure no one knew. I fed the monster with respect to the home, happy wife, and children— I, after all, loved love, and only wanted it for myself, leaving alone the parts of a man I had found and was sure was broken enough to have left me puzzled and star studded rather than struck as I always was, tears welling up at the thought of it that something should be mended neither I or anything I was could not fix—I continued to write, however, knowing I was walking on glass barefoot and tiptoeing on eggshells around the mass media conglomerate of the network that stood between my feeble world and his, the higher ups— and beyond: it was, after all, a level system— and now with a beautifully decorated and fully apartment, besides my mattress on the floor instead of the space saving loft bed I had wanted—though it looked just right with the piano bench as a headboard, housing my crystals and new globe, plus a colorful collection of books I could crack open as I awoke to the morning light, no longer so early but increasingly later, as I shifted into the insomniatic habits of a true DJ and music producer, still writing and reading in the mornings, however— I had to wonder what level I was truly on. My apartment looked like a home. The decor was better than I could have imagined myself even, the tasteful furnishings and modern elegance shifting my reality— no longer an empty apartment, now a fashionable hub for art and creation. I assumed the cat would come along in the winter, with any hopes that I would finish my albums by then—and also looming over me— my last life, and the people in it struggling to call up to me in this very ascended realm, which I was lucky to inhabit. ‘Thank you God for your many blessings' My wishes it seemed, had been granted— magic did indeed seem real, and though I had an Amazon return packages and ready to go— there wasn't a time and place I could see myself as ready to even be near The Rock, some festering bulletwound in my heart, all that I had written, not just of Fallon, but of the rest of the people I had honored by word mark but had not yet the status or wealth to have ever known as human at all, but more products of the program; with intention, however, it was the path I had followed to be destined here somehow though small codes and doorways, signals and symbols which called to me and seemed only I could see—but were there in plain sight, and with the right eyes, had meant more than I ever dreamed anything could— open doors to a world I had indeed created myself, and in turn, the world in which I lived had also been created around me. I had to, in my mind, find the light inside all of whom I studied, to humanize myself—nurturing some fascination of fame and celebrity inside which still stood unanswered, the question of why and how one becomes so high up that without trying, that I might continue to find them in my mind's eye and in my world, on the outside, time after time. —tales of a superstar DJ. (Everyone's still drunk) What. Why, what happened? He got here before us. What?! How do you know? [pause] Okay. This weird detour is paying off in some kind of way— I'm still heavily obsessed with the fact that Johnny Carson referred to his weird drunken jacking off as “cranking it” ON TV. On something close to live television in like— The 80's Was it the 80's? I don't know, And apparently even Johnny Carson doesn't know, because he was “sauced”, So let's just go ahead and add that to the list of ghosts I have to track down for making me squeal like a little fucking schoolgirl. Thank you for tuning in! “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.” Romans 13:1 In this episode we read where Paul is addressing the people of His day about respecting authority and those who are in authority, it shows when we respect authority we honor God. Laws are not meant to restrict us from our liberties and freedoms or rights but they are put in place to govern us. God wants us also to show respect to those who serve it is very important. “Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God's law.” Romans 13:8 NLT Love is the ultimate respect for one another, if we show love for one another we show that we love God who loves us. Many of us had expectations of when we had adult children what life would be like. We thought we would be involved in their lives. When this expectation or need is not fulfilled we often feel unimportant and unloved. As an adult, we are responsible for fulfilling our own needs. One way to accomplish that is to spend more time with friends. We are fulfilling our own needs by finding like minded people to associate with. It is not our children's responsibility to fulfill our needs. They don't OWE us anything. In this episode I talk about why our children possibly are helping fulfill our needs and five benefits to having friends to fulfill our need to love and be loved.Have you received my new resource "3 Steps To Be Yourself Around Your Adult Children?" QUOTES FOR REFLECTION “You are happy when God blesses you, but not as happy as God is.”~C.H. Spurgeon (1834-1892), famed London pastor “Wash the plate, not because it is dirty nor because you are told to wash it, but because you love the one who will use it next.”~Mary Teresa Bojaxhiu (1910-1997), a.k.a. “Mother Teresa” “Christ did not die to redeem us in part. …[W]e must understand that God is after…any and all sin that would hinder the whole person from serving God fully and freely.”~Jackie Hill Perry, writer and hip-hop artist “Nothing in history or in the universe cuts us down to size like the cross. All of us have inflated views of ourselves, especially in self-righteousness, until we have visited a place called Calvary. It is there, at the foot of the cross, that we shrink to our true size.”~John Stott (1921-2011), London pastor and theologian “…the freer [the] gospel, the more sanctifying is the gospel; and the more it is received as a doctrine of grace, the more will it be felt as a doctrine according to godliness. …[I]n the gospel…our desire after Him is not chilled into apathy by that barrier of human guilt….” “Retain a single shred or fragment of legality with the gospel, and you raise a topic of distrust between man and God. You take away from the power of the gospel to melt and to conciliate. For this purpose, the freer it is the better it is. That very peculiarity which so many dread as the germ of Antinomianism [i.e. lawlessness], is, in fact, the germ of a new spirit and a new inclination against it.”~Thomas Chalmers (1780-1847) in “The Expulsive Power of a New Affection” “Unless this freedom be comprehended, neither Christ nor gospel truth, nor inner peace of soul, can be rightly known.”~John Calvin (1509-1964), French-born reformer and theologianSERMON PASSAGEGalatians 5:1-15 (ESV)Galatians 5 1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. 2 Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. 3 I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. 4 You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. 5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. 7 You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8 This persuasion is not from him who calls you. 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump. 10 I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is. 11 But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. 12 I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves! 13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.Romans 138 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. Deuteronomy 30 6 And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. Jeremiah 31 31 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. 33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” Ezekiel 3626 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

Romans 12–13 Romans 12–13 (Listen) A Living Sacrifice 12 I appeal to you therefore, brothers,1 by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.2 2 Do not be conformed to this world,3 but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.4 Gifts of Grace 3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4 For as in one body we have many members,5 and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads,6 with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Marks of the True Christian 9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit,7 serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly.8 Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it9 to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Submission to the Authorities 13 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. 7 Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed. Fulfilling the Law Through Love 8 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 11 Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. 12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. Old Testament: Jeremiah 18–20 Jeremiah 18–20 (Listen) The Potter and the Clay 18 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: 2 “Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will let you hear1 my words.” 3 So I went down to the potter's house, and there he was working at his wheel. 4 And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do. 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me: 6 “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter has done? declares the LORD. Behold, like the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. 7 If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it, 8 and if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I intended to do to it. 9 And if at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will build and plant it, 10 and if it does evil in my sight, not listening to my voice, then I will relent of the good that I had intended to do to it. 11 Now, therefore, say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: ‘Thus says the LORD, Behold, I am shaping disaster against you and devising a plan against you. Return, every one from his evil way, and amend your ways and your deeds.' 12 “But they say, ‘That is in vain! We will follow our own plans, and will every one act according to the stubbornness of his evil heart.' 13 “Therefore thus says the LORD: Ask among the nations, Who has heard the like of this? The virgin Israel has done a very horrible thing.14 Does the snow of Lebanon leave the crags of Sirion?2 Do the mountain waters run dry,3 the cold flowing streams?15 But my people have forgotten me; they make offerings to false gods; they made them stumble in their ways, in the ancient roads, and to walk into side roads, not the highway,16 making their land a horror, a thing to be hissed at forever. Everyone who passes by it is horrified and shakes his head.17 Like the east wind I will scatter them before the enemy. I will show them my back, not my face, in the day of their calamity.” 18 Then they said, “Come, let us make plots against Jeremiah, for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not pay attention to any of his words.” 19 Hear me, O LORD, and listen to the voice of my adversaries.20 Should good be repaid with evil? Yet they have dug a pit for my life. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.21 Therefore deliver up their children to famine; give them over to the power of the sword; let their wives become childless and widowed. May their men meet death by pestilence, their youths be struck down by the sword in battle.22 May a cry be heard from their houses, when you bring the plunderer suddenly upon them! For they have dug a pit to take me and laid snares for my feet.23 Yet you, O LORD, know all their plotting to kill me. Forgive not their iniquity, nor blot out their sin from your sight. Let them be overthrown before you; deal with them in the time of your anger. The Broken Flask 19 Thus says the LORD, “Go, buy a potter's earthenware flask, and take some of the elders of the people and some of the elders of the priests, 2 and go out to the Valley of the Son of Hinnom at the entry of the Potsherd Gate, and proclaim there the words that I tell you. 3 You shall say, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing such disaster upon this place that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle. 4 Because the people have forsaken me and have profaned this place by making offerings in it to other gods whom neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have known; and because they have filled this place with the blood of innocents, 5 and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command or decree, nor did it come into my mind—6 therefore, behold, days are coming, declares the LORD, when this place shall no more be called Topheth, or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. 7 And in this place I will make void the plans of Judah and Jerusalem, and will cause their people to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those who seek their life. I will give their dead bodies for food to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the earth. 8 And I will make this city a horror, a thing to be hissed at. Everyone who passes by it will be horrified and will hiss because of all its wounds. 9 And I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and their daughters, and everyone shall eat the flesh of his neighbor in the siege and in the distress, with which their enemies and those who seek their life afflict them.' 10 “Then you shall break the flask in the sight of the men who go with you, 11 and shall say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts: So will I break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter's vessel, so that it can never be mended. Men shall bury in Topheth because there will be no place else to bury. 12 Thus will I do to this place, declares the LORD, and to its inhabitants, making this city like Topheth. 13 The houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah—all the houses on whose roofs offerings have been offered to all the host of heaven, and drink offerings have been poured out to other gods—shall be defiled like the place of Topheth.'” 14 Then Jeremiah came from Topheth, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy, and he stood in the court of the LORD's house and said to all the people: 15 “Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, behold, I am bringing upon this city and upon all its towns all the disaster that I have pronounced against it, because they have stiffened their neck, refusing to hear my words.” Jeremiah Persecuted by Pashhur 20 Now Pashhur the priest, the son of Immer, who was chief officer in the house of the LORD, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things. 2 Then Pashhur beat Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper Benjamin Gate of the house of the LORD. 3 The next day, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The LORD does not call your name Pashhur, but Terror on Every Side. 4 For thus says the LORD: Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends. They shall fall by the sword of their enemies while you look on. And I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon. He shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall strike them down with the sword. 5 Moreover, I will give all the wealth of the city, all its gains, all its prized belongings, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah into the hand of their enemies, who shall plunder them and seize them and carry them to Babylon. 6 And you, Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house, shall go into captivity. To Babylon you shall go, and there you shall die, and there you shall be buried, you and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied falsely.” 7 O LORD, you have deceived me, and I was deceived; you are stronger than I, and you have prevailed. I have become a laughingstock all the day; everyone mocks me.8 For whenever I speak, I cry out, I shout, “Violence and destruction!” For the word of the LORD has become for me a reproach and derision all day long.9 If I say, “I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name,” there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.10 For I hear many whispering. Terror is on every side! “Denounce him! Let us denounce him!” say all my close friends, watching for my fall. “Perhaps he will be deceived; then we can overcome him and take our revenge on him.”11 But the LORD is with me as a dread warrior; therefore my persecutors will stumble; they will not overcome me. They will be greatly shamed, for they will not succeed. Their eternal dishonor will never be forgotten.12 O LORD of hosts, who tests the righteous, who sees the heart and the mind,4 let me see your vengeance upon them, for to you have I committed my cause. 13 Sing to the LORD; praise the LORD! For he has delivered the life of the needy from the hand of evildoers. 14 Cursed be the day on which I was born! The day when my mother bore me, let it not be blessed!15 Cursed be the man who brought the news to my father, “A son is born to you,” making him very glad.16 Let that man be like the cities that the LORD overthrew without pity; let him hear a cry in the morning and an alarm at noon,17 because he did not kill me in the womb; so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb forever great.18 Why did I come out from the womb to see toil and sorrow, and spend my days in shame?
