Angelo Ellerbee is an institution! The public relations maverick has worked with and guided the careers of icons and ingenues, legends and leading actors and he has built a legacy that continues to flourish decades after he began. The Newark, NJ native, who began his stellar career working in the fashion industry--designing, styling and hosting shows as fundraisers to combat the global issue of HIV/AIDS--soon found himself in the world of publicity and artist relations,In 1985, Ellerbee founded Double XXposure Public Relations, working with artists and record labels to champion the careers of such luminaries as Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Dionne Warwick, Roberta Flack and reggae giants like Shabba Ranks and Patra, while also shaping the careers of supermodels and burgeoning business titans and industry leaders. But the thing that caught the attention of everyone in the music industry was that Angelo Ellerbee had a keen sense of artist development, a component of the music industry that had helped to establish artists of the Motown era especially (but an essential part of most labels) that had slowly disappeared in the ever-changing landscape of music. While continuing to serve as CEO of his flagship enterprise, Ellerbee also went on to serve as Senior VP of Publicity for Island Def Jam Records, where he brought R&B supergroup Dru Hill, music legend Mr. Biggs aka Ronald Isley of the legendary Isley Brothers, and gospel superstar Karen Clark Sheard to prominence. Double XXposure managed such major talents as sex symbol/singer Ginuwine, pop superstar Laura Branigan and rap icon DMX. Ellerbee took the helm of DMX's career, serving as President and General Manager of rap superstar's Bloodline Records. Under his leadership, Ellerbee cultivated the Def Jam imprint into a full-fledged recording company. In addition, he managed the multi-platinum recording artist himself, as he collected more than 22 million record sales in his global tallies. Never one to settle or sit on his laurels, Ellerbee has continued to expand his presence in media, writing 3 best-selling books [WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE?, ASK ANGELO (46 Years of Industry Excellence) and his latest tome THE SENSE OF SUCCESS, where his no-nonsense style helps the readers tackle difficult shifts and struggles in their quest for success). He continues to work in television, partnering with BET Networks to produce 4 shows, including Harlem Hall of Fame, which will honor and celebrate the culture of the renown hamlet and such Harlem heroes as the original Black sex symbol, actor Billy Dee Williams, Congressman Charles Rangel, fashion maverick Audrey Smaltz, leading lady of Hollywood Leslie Uggams and music's buoyant bad boy for life, producer/recording artist/fashion mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs. Ellerbee also works passionately with the LGBTQ community, having served as Chairman of the Board of NYC's Gay Men of African Descent (GMAD) and working with Unity Fellowship Church Movement on their 35th Anniversary Gala under the leadership of Archbishop Carl Bean, who recorded "Born This Way" during his own stellar career at Motown Records. Angelo Ellerbee is the Sultan of Swag and his capacity to transform and translate the culture has made him an industry giant for decades, and he's still standing. Welcome to Spring 1993.And, I'm sure you'll all agree, there was only one phrase on everyone's lips.I lick-he boom, boom down.(Checks notes)Anyway, more of that later. The legendary NOW compilation series has reached its twenty-forth volume and is now standing proud as the finest collection of chart hits around.HITS who?And as the fourth year of that craziest of decades ‘The Nineties' got underway, 37 of the finest top hits were vying for your pop attention. AND what a year it was shaping up to be!The Bluebells were back from NOW3, promoting the cheeriest of car branded divorce!Hue and Cry were back from NOW10, still not working for you No More (at No 25!)Sister Sledge were back from the 70s, sure and as pure as the day is discotastic!Ultravox were still finding no meaning in anything!Lulu was, er, just back!(Get to the NINETIES! - Ed.)Yes, what a kaleidoscope of pop 1993 was pop kids! And OF COURSE there were plenty of tracks that signalled the decade was well and truly underway. The dancefloor was burning up thanks to Sub Sub, Robin S and er, 2 Unlimited. Reggae was waving its flag with Shaggy, Snow and Shabba Ranks. The boybands were exploding into our living rooms with Take That covering Barry Manilow in a garage and East 17 stuck in a Swimming Pool at TOTP. And Duran Duran were quietly making THE comeback of the decade with something that certainly wasn't ordinary AT ALL.All of this before we mention some fabulous pop moments from the likes of World Party, The Beloved and Lenny Kravitz! It was enough to make Radio One ‘legend' DLT flip out live on air! No, really.Join music journalist and blogger Sam Lidicott as we revisit these tracks and much more as we head back to NOW24. We explore why so many brilliant female vocalists were heading up the charts, which band Iain had breakfast with in 1993, and why NOW24 has not one but two exclusive bragging rights across the WHOLE series. Oh yes, there really were (wait for it) No Limits! And without too many spoilers, find out why Ugly Kid Joe and (sorry Mick) Simply Red probably wont be returning our calls. Hosted on Acast. Forensic Musicologist Brian McBrearty says he believes the copyright lawsuit filed by Steely and Clevie against the reggaeton community is silly and has no basis. The riddim making duo submitted a copyright documents for the 1990s dancehall hit song “Dem Bow” by Shabba Ranks in a Los Angeles Court, but Brian, speaking exclusively with WMV says that will not be enough to stake claim over and entire genre even if the riddim is similar to "Dem Bow" genre songs. A California judges set to decide if the case will go to jury on Thursday September 22 based on evidence presented by the plaintiffs and the dismissal request by lawyers the defendants which include Pitbull, Drake, Justin Timberlake, Karol G, Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee and more. If the case goes to trial, a forensic musicologist like Brian will be called in to determine whether or not there is a common thread between 1800 reggaeton songs and Steely and Clevie's 1989 riddim 'Fish Market'. The San Fransisco native admits he is not acquainted with reggae and dancehall culture and only became interested upon hearing about the Steely and Clevie Case. He also says he has been hired by record labels and advertising companies to ensure there is not infringement in songs they may use. From the ages of fourteen to seventeen, she was the founding member of the Motown Records group Pretty in Pink. Indira was responsible for co-writing the majority of the groups material. After her stint with Pretty in Pink, she went on to record with Atlantic Records recording artist Miki Howard, Motown Records recording artist Johnny Gill and Island Records recording artist Shabba Ranks. Indira also appeared on projects by Loud Records recording artist Yvette Michelle, Mercury Records recording artist Paula Abdul and has also been featured on several Chaka Khan records as well.Indira is known in the music industry as a prolific songwriter. It is her deeply personal songs and passionate writing that is true to her heart. Always striving as a singer and performer, Indira has toured extensively most recently with the Daughters of Soul and Rufus, both in the United States and overseas. A benefit of Indira's travels on the road with her mother is her perspective on how music is a powerful influence in the lives of all people. Though she considers her music mainly R&B, don't be surprised to hear some funk, rock and jazz spicing up the tracks in her forthcoming release. In 2016, Indira made her film debut as she co-starred in the TV One Unsung original movie "Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story". In the biopic about R&B singer Miki Howard's life, Indira portrayed her legendary mother. Her performance in the movie received rave reviews and marks the beginning of what is sure to be many future roles.Despite the many comparisons to her mothers legendary voice, Indira pulls out all the stops when it comes to her own unique style. She expresses her individual diva-tude with humility, grace and power!Listen and subscribe to the BAAS Entertainment Podcast on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Deezer, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Podchaser, Pocket Casts and TuneIn. “Hey, Alexa. It was revealed just this past week that basically all of Reggaeton is being sued. No, really. As you may or may not know, the massively popular genre from Latin-American and the Caribbean is actually based mostly on a few Jamaican riddims (the instrumental background or “rhythm” in contemporary Jamaican music). Now the production duo of Steely & Clevie, who wrote the riddim behind the massively popular early '90s hit "Dem Bow" by Shabba Ranks, want their bag for the riddim's use in Reggaeton over the last…oh…three-plus decades. The lawsuit includes Luis Fonsi's “Despacito” (currently sitting as the most watched video on YouTube with a cool 8 billion plays), forty Daddy Yankee tracks, and a whole slew of other major Reggaeton hits including...Justin Bieber? So, Sam and Saxon thought they'd dive into all the reasons why this is a huge deal, and dig beyond just the big names being indicted, but consider things like when a very localized music and culture hits international markets and thus, a whole new set of laws around copyright. Also, the complexities of riddim culture in Jamaica, the role of streaming has played in Reggaeton's popularity, and why Dancehall never really reached the promised land of crossover success. When one thinks of an artist whose music career spans over three decades, has made stops along world tours in South Africa, the United Kingdom, The Middle East, Europe, Australia, the US, Nigeria, Ghana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Kenya, and has collaborated with renowned artists like Donnie McClurkin, Israel Houghton, Micah Stampley, Lionel Petersen and, in her secular career, Shabba Ranks and Beenie Man – all this while winning multiple awards - then the name has to be none other than Chevelle Franklyn. Chevelle has had a long and outstanding career in music and is still going strong. The highly respected Chevelle started her journey in music as a teenager when she recorded her first single called "Here I Am." By 1991, her career was blossoming, leading to her featuring on Shabba Ranks' worldwide hit, "Mr Lover Man". She also recorded her hit single, "Dancehall Queen" with Beenie Man. Chevelle has had a long and outstanding career in music and is still going strong. She is about to release her latest album titled "South Wind Vol. 1," which was recorded appropriately in South Africa. The initial plan was to record two songs in South Africa, but the two songs morphed into an entire album. The album, which is totally about worshipping God, features guest artists from South Africa. Ntokozo Mbambo was a prominent collaborator. Chevelle co-produced the album together with Nqubeko Mbatha and Mojalefa Mjakes. The highly respected Chevelle started her journey in music as a teenager when she recorded her first single called "Here I Am." By 1991, her career was blossoming, leading to her featuring on Shabba Ranks' worldwide hit, "Mr Lover Man". She also recorded her hit single, "Dancehall Queen" with Beenie Man, which put her on the international reggae map. Having started as a reggae artist, her turning point came during a live concert in 1998 where she was expected to perform "Dancehall Queen" but instead performed the gospel song, "Silver and Gold" by Kirk Franklin. She bravely made the fateful decision to use that moment

Four fun things. Many random discussions. So sometimes, we have a fun story, news story, fact or piece of trivia which we think is good Simblified fodder but not enough for a whole episode. So along came the idea of taking four of these and making them one episode! Introducing Simblified Half Pints: A freshly brewed new format where your four hosts will each bring one fact or story (or whatever, really) to the table and then we yak about it for 10-15 minutes. With the usual Simblified detours of bad jokes, anecdotes, and perhaps something profound too! In this inaugural episode we look at sparkling water, the FIFA World Cup, anchovies and mosquitoes - thankfully not all at once. We hope you like this new format - let us know what you think. We plan to do this once a month. Add one part news, one part bad jokes, one part Wikipedia research, one part cult references from spending too much time on the internet, one part Wodehouse quotes, and one part quality puns, and you get Simblified.A weekly podcast to help you appear smarter, to an audience that knows no less! Your four hosts - Chuck, Naren, Srikeit, and Tony attempt to deconstruct topics with humor (conditions apply). Fans of the show have described it as "fun conversations with relatable folks", "irreverent humor", "the funniest thing to come out of Malad West" and "if I give you a good review will you please let me go".Started in 2016 as a creative outlet, Simblified now has over 200 episodes, including some live ones, and some with guests who are much smarter than the hosts. ANGELO ELLERBEE: From humble beginnings with a family of 7, raised by his mother in Newark, New Jersey, who had a strict work ethic, went to work at the age of 9, and by the age of 18 he became the Office Manager for the Mayor of Newark's Policy & Development Office. Angelo then worked as a model in Paris at the age of 19 for 2 years. Later, he launched his clothing line "De Angelo's" which hit major department stores nationally, from Bergdorfs to Macy's and as a multi-tasker, also hosted his show “Ellerbee's Eye on Fashion'. In 1985 Angelo founded Double XXposure Public Relations after his entry into the world of publicity relations and artist relations via his mentor JamesMtume, super producer and jazz impresario, who he soon managed and quickly afterward was working with legends such as: Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Dionne Warwick, Roberta Flack, reggae giants Shabba Ranks and Patra, while also shaping the careers of supermodels and burgeoning business titans and industry leaders, via his finishing school mode of operation, teaching education first, then entertainment, pulling attention to the business of show. Serving as Senior VP of Publicity for Island Def Jam Records, he brought Druhill, the R&B supergroup, Ronald Isley, of the legendary Isley Brothers, superstar Karen Clark Sheard and rap icon, DMX, to prominence. Angelo collected more than 22 million in global record sales for DMX, when he took the helm of DMX's career as President and General Manager of Bloodline Records. Always busy, he wrote 3 best-selling books, WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE?; ASK ANGELO-45 Years of Industry Excellence and THE SENSE OF SUCCESS. Presently, Angelo is partnering with BET Networks to produce four shows: Harlem Hall of Fame, which will honor and celebrate Billy Dee Williams, Congressman Charles Rangell, Leslie Uggams, fashion maverick Audrey Smaltz and producer/recording artist/fashion mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. Angelo's advocacy lies with the LGBTQ community, having served as Chairman of the Board of NYC's Gay Men of African Descent (GMAD), hosting fundraiser shows to combat the global issue of HIV/AIDS; working with Unity Felllowship Church Movement on their 35th Anniversary Gala under the leadership of Archbishop Carl Bean, who recorded “Born This Way” during his own stellar career at Motown Records. He has been called the Sultan of Swag; The Henry Higgins of Hip Hop, The Angel of Artist Development, The Public Relations Maverick, but he sees himself as simply a man who has a great work ethic, who has lived his life following his mother's mantra of growing from great to greatest, and helping others to realize theirs as well, staying steeped in his faith. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ozzie-stewart/support

Glenn Miller was born in Georgetown, Guyana in South America, was educated at Christ Church Secondary School and attended Queen's College in his homeland. He then came to realize his dreams in the United States. After becoming an Assistant Vice President at Manufacturers Hanover Trust, he began as an intern at Double XXposure and later became Vice President of Operations, under the tutelage and guidance of the company's President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Angelo Elllerbee. While at the company for 7 1/2 years, Glenn provided public relations services for celebrities such as: Dionne Warwick, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, DMX, Dru Hill, Shabba Ranks, Big Daddy Kane and other multi platinum artists. He was the innovator of Funk Night at Café Wha?, the legendary music club in Greenwich Village that was frequented by Chaka Khan, Nona Hendrix, Cheryl "Pepsii'' Riley and others, as well as the creator of the famous Open Mic showcase at the Village Underground where Tommy Mattola, Mariah Carey, Ashford & Simpson, Stephanie Mills, Carl Thomas, Danny DeVito and other artists frequented. Some of the corporate clients he worked with were: the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, The Goodwill Games. The Literacy Crusade, ASCAP and Rough Riders/Cash Money Tour. Glenn created his company Kudegras Entertainment to continue his PR work which came in handy as he began losing his eyesight, until 2001, when he became visually disabled. Not letting that stop him, Glenn with assistance, began singing and performing poetry at events, constantly challenging himself. He also had taken a stand to help the underserved, downtrodden, those who were outcast and those looked down upon despite his own challenges. But his biggest joy was bringing people together, making them happy through food, drink, music, and great conversations. It made him happy to provide guests with his and their favorite dishes. Glenn was a playful, thoughtful, honest, giving, inspiring, gay, Black blind man, who ironically saw more than those who could see. He loved living life and bringing people together, taking immense pleasure in their joy. His former boss, Mr. Ellerbee described him as “phenomenal, a diamond among gems, whose contributions were worldly.” Glenn Miller passed on August 15, 2021, although his legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of those he touched. His life and mind were very impactful and dearly missed. Final edits by David Martin --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ozzie-stewart/support

Some past projects include directing Music Videos for Sting & Eric Clapton, Grandmaster Caz, Shabba Ranks, Queen Latifah, West of Eden (Best Independent Video/MTV 1987), Cypress Hill, Gloria Estefan, Sony, Warner Bros, Columbia Pictures, MCA, Epic, Island, Atlantic, Tommy Boy, IRS Records, World Hunger Project, and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.Demian is a member of the DGA (Director's Guild of America) and was Chairman of the New York Independent Film Coalition for two years and has directed, produced, written, photographed, taped and/or recorded audio on over 225 features, short films, music videos, commercials, and concerts. He also shadowed James Cameron on the set of Avatar for a bit but we'll get into that as well.
