Most people don't think of themselves as creative. In fact, research shows that about 75% of adults self-identify as non-creative. But what if the problem isn't that they lack creativity — it's that they've been defining it wrong? Blythe Harris, co-founder and former chief creative officer of Stella & Dot, and Mallory May, jewelry designer and illustrator, created Daily Creative to change that conversation. Their practice is built around mini-c creativity: just five minutes of creative engagement per day — no talent required, no finished product expected — that delivers measurable benefits including lower stress, improved focus, healthier dopamine, and the kind of meditative calm most of us are chasing through much more complicated means. In this episode: the science behind why five minutes works, how Blythe's near-death experience in 1995 became the seed of Daily Creative, why perfectionism kills creativity faster than anything else, and how to start a creative practice that actually sticks — whether you're going through a career transition, entering midlife, managing kids on Zoom school, or just looking for five minutes that are genuinely yours.Follow Duologue: Instagram: @duologuepod Substack: duologue.substack.com Find Blythe & Mallory here:

At 22, Blythe Harris was hit by an 18-wheeler in downtown San Francisco, pronounced dead on arrival, and spent the next several years rebuilding her identity from a hospital gurney. What she discovered in that long, humbling process set her on a lifelong inquiry into creativity — not the capital C kind that most people assume doesn't belong to them, but the small, daily, five-minute kind that turns out to be one of the most underused tools for mental health we have. Blythe went on to co-found and lead the creative vision of Stella and Dot, a jewelry and accessories company that put flexible income in the hands of tens of thousands of women, and more recently co-authored (with Mallory May) Daily Creative: The Five Minute Habit to Rewire Your Brain. In the fourth episode of our Wired to Create series, Blythe makes the case that every single one of us is more creative than we think — and that the cost of ignoring that might be higher than we realize. In this episode of Bibliophiles Anonymous, Denise and Jess discuss what has become a very heated topic in the book blogging community lately - the article posted by The Guardian by Kathleen Hale, detailing her attempts to respond and track down a reviewer who posted a horrible review and then mobilized others to do the same. Since many things (blog posts, tweets, etc.) have been deleted, it is hard to say for sure exactly what happened, since we only have Kathleen Hale's version of the story and there hasn't been a response (that we know of) from Blythe Harris (the reviewer in question), we will just say that it looks like both parties were behaving badly and made some not-so-good choices. As always, we will let you the listener weigh in with your opinions. Is this the story of a cyberbully who has used a fake, stolen identity to try and get attention? Is this the story of an author who overstepped her bounds and stalked a reviewer, both online and in person? Is it both? Bottom line: no one in this situation behaved well. Behave yourselves out there, people! Here are a LOT of links: The original Guardian article The GoodReads page for Kathleen Hale's book, No One Else Can Have You A link to Blythe Harris's review of the book in question (language warning) A link to another blog post that has several screenshots and links regarding this situation (note that the opinions of this blogger are not necessarily the opinions of us here at Bib Anon - I'm just including it because of the screen grabs, many of which no longer exist. - D) Chuck Wendig's helpful guide to how to respond to a reviewer (just because it's funny and Chuck is awesome) We will be at YALLFest next week! If you are planning to be in Charleston, let us know! Email the show at bibliophiles.podcast@gmail.com, find us on Facebook or Twitter! Next week, we will have a review up for the latest book from friend to the show Liesel Schwarz, Sky Pirates. Thanks for listening! Please rate, review and subscribe!
Diane Cook is the guest. Her debut story collection, Man V. Nature, is available now from Harper Books. Tea Obreht says "Man V. Nature is as close to experiencing a Picasso as literature can get: the worlds in Diane Cook’s impressive debut are bizarre, vertiginous, funny, pushed to the extreme-but just familiar enough in their nuances of the human condition to evoke an irresistible, around-the-corner reality.” And the Boston Globe says “Here’s a good rule: If Diane Cook wrote it, read it…Safety is tenuous, if not an illusion, in her thoughtful, unsettling, and darkly funny collection.” Monologue topics: Kathleen Hale, Blythe Harris, don't feed trolls, Goodreads, stalking.
