Bob DiBiasio - Indians Radio Week
The Cleveland Indians’ abbreviated season came to an end with an abbreviated postseason run of just two games, both losses to the New York Yankees. But unlike most offseasons during the Tribe’s run of success since 2013, this one in particular brings plenty of questions. Bob DiBiasio, VP from the Indians, joined the Ray Horner Morning Show for his final Tuesday hit of the calendar year, and he talked about what’s on the team’s plate heading into the offseason. Questions are swirling as to the future of Francisco Lindor playing for the Tribe, as he is a free agent after 2021 and may command a top-dollar contract. There are also questions as to the future and health of manager Terry Francona, who was out much of the 2020 season. In addition to the Indians, Bobby D also shared his thoughts on the recent passing of Baseball Hall of Famer Bob Gibson, as well as the MLB rule changes in 2020 and what should and shouldn’t stay.
The Major League Baseball playoffs are set to being next week, with the Cleveland Indians being a part of it in some capacity. If you’re confused about the playoff bracket, you’re not the only one. Tribe VP Bob DiBiasio made some sense of the playoff structure on the Ray Horner Morning Show. There is a possibility the Indians will take on their division foes in the Chicago White Sox in the first round of the playoffs, and DiBiasio points to the Tribe’s strong pitching staff giving them an edge in a short series. DiBiasio praised the way Major League teams have handled themselves during the abridged season, with very few positive tests and punishing those who broke the mandates.
The Cleveland Indians dropped six in a row, including getting swept by the Minnesota Twins, but due to the abridged season and expanded playoff bracket, the Tribe remains in the hunt. However, they will have to keep pressing on without their manager, Terry Francona. Bob DiBiasio from the Indians joined the Ray Horner Morning Show for his usual Tuesday interview to talk about Tito’s health. DiBiasio says Francona is doing better and is doing what he can to stay in shape, but due to the pandemic and his numerous health issues over the years, he is at high risk. Bobby D also talked about the standings in the American League, including the much-improved and very competitive AL Central Division, which coincides with the Indians’ recent struggles leading up to the playoff push.
Bobby D. joins The Kenny & JT Show on Opening Day. Under the circumstances, can this Opening Day be as memorable as past ones? Bobby tells us how awesome the Indians Operations department has been to make this season as entertaining as possible. What can fans expect to see and hear as far as Opening Day activities? Are we going to see cardboard cut-outs of fans in the stands? There will be one for longtime Indians “drummer” John Adams. How flexible will fans need to be with the new rules put in place this year? Plus, more Tribe talk past, present, and future.
Bob DiBiasio has been a member of the Cleveland Indians staff for over 40 years, and he talked about the calls for changing the team’s name, which has been around for 105 years. DiBiasio says they are exploring all options at this time.
:17 - The annual Hall of Fame game at Tom Benson Stadium in Canton has been postponed till next year. Could this put the NFL and all the other sports in jeopardy for 2020? 5:45 - One of those sports in question is baseball, but they still plan to get their “spring training” restarted on July 1st. Bob DiBiasio from the Cleveland Indians came on to talk about the abbreviated season ahead and how the stadium workers will ensure proper sanitation and safety, even without fans in the stands. 13:55 - Dr. Jennifer Savitski is an OB-GYN with Cleveland Clinic Akron General, and she talked about their safety measures for her patients, especially those expecting mothers. 19:48 - Not a whole lot of content coming out of Hollywood, but the drive-ins are experiencing a rebirth with retro movie nights, according to Scott Wynn.
Great interview on The Kenny & JT Show with Bobby D on what should've been Opening Day...Awesome early season memories from Bobby and he gives us his all-time Top 5 Indians. Plus, what is he hearing about a season start-up? Will there be a Spring Training II?
On The Kenny & JT Show, the guys are joined by Bobby D live from Indians Spring Training in Goodyear. The guys talk about how fun the AL Central race will be this year, what makes baseball players different than other professional athletes, how Terry Francona embraces diversity in the clubhouse, how Progressive Field has stayed relevant, and much more...

He joined Ray to talk about how this is a dream job, how he grew up listening to Joe Tait, and a little on the new look Cavaliers. 13:12 - The states that have legalized recreational marijuana are experiencing massive population growth. With that in mind, will other states follow suit? 16:35 - Bob DiBiasio from the Tribe joined the show to answer both Ray’s and our listeners’ questions. The topics discussed were on favorite sports memorabilia and the differences between old Cleveland Stadium and Progressive Field. Be sure to follow us on our various social media platforms. The Indians just swept the Angels and now trail the Twins by just 4 games in the AL Central race. Bob DiBiasio spoke to Pam this morning about the sweep and more.
:19 - Sad news for the Akron area, and especially in Barberton, as native son Hal Naragon passed away over the weekend at age 90. Mr. Naragon was a backup catcher for the Cleveland Indians throughout the 1950s, but for the folks in these parts, he was way more than that. Barberton mayor Bill Judge and All Sports Booster Mike Eberhardt reflected on the life of Hal Naragon. 6:38 - Continuing the mourning on Mr. Naragon is Bob DiBiasio from the Indians, who hosted Hal at a Tribe game just a couple of weeks ago. Bobby D also touched on Carlos Carassco’s progress, the difference between Double-A and Triple-A, and the team’s tough times against the Tampa Bay Rays. 13:52 - Ever want to go to Singapore? Plenty of people do, but some just want to go to the airport and hang out. An odd bit of imagery, since most Americans don’t want to spend more than a half hour in any U.S. airport. 17:59 - The Akron RubberDucks finished with the worst record in the Eastern League in 2019, but think about the turnover of talent throughout the season. GM Jim Pfander looked back at the season that was, which included rising stars and prospects in Zach Plesac, Adam Civale, and Daniel Johnson. He also talked about trade and the G7 summit and his beloved Cleveland Indians. 5:05 - Ever have a hobby growing up that was lampooned by your peers at the time, yet they later came around to respect you for it? For Tony, it was drawing and drama club, and for Kris Drew, it was the topic at hand: ballet. 12:13 - It hasn’t been a positive time in Tribe land after getting swept by the Mets and possibly losing Jose Ramirez for the season. Bob DiBiasio talked about Ramirez’s hamate bone surgery and his loss, how the team will respond with others coming off the IL, and a little on Barberton’s own Hal Naragon. Friendliest was in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and the unfriendliest is the state with the Finger Lakes. Be sure to follow us on our various social media platforms.
