The first day of the 2022 MLB Draft is done and after 80 picks and multiple hours. The Guardians have added three more college players to their system. We focus on what ended up being a shocking first-round Jackson Holiday at one. Kumar Rocker at three! Three college pitchers in the top ten after many thinking there would not be even one.  We focus on the top pick Chase DeLauter. A year ago at this time, people were watching him dominate the Cape. He looked like a potential top-five overall pick due to his performance with wood bats and his physical tools. There are reasons why people look at him and talk about Bradley Zimmer, but I explain why those aren't true. In a nutshell, the cape performance along with physical tools and a better approach should make him a better player with a legit chance he ends up being a five-tool talent.  Next up is Justin Campbell, who I successfully mocked to the Guardians. He is a big pitcher but doesn't pitch like one. His combination of command, control, flyball rate, and fastball spin made him a potential candidate at 16, when he was still there at 37 it made him a no doubt pick for the Guardians. Parker Messick made Chase DeLauter look so bad in February that it still affected people's views on him all these months later. He is an undersized lefty with stellar command and control. If the Guardians can help him add some velocity he should profile as another potential starting pitcher for the Guardians. Plus the system lacks left-handed pitchers in general which Messick helps alleviate.  Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. 2022 MLB Draft Day One in the Books: How did the Guardians do?

Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. We talk about my failings when it comes to scouting. Why was it that I had him as a top 10 prospect in 2014 and now a player like him would not crack my top 50. I talk about how he does have value to a team that might not be set at centerfield. I also explain the value of Bradley Zimmer, while also explaining why I would prefer for him to be traded to another organization due to his perceived value in Cleveland against what I hear when I talk to others connected to teams or who write about the game.  We talk about the 40 man mess and the newest injuries that have occurred. With the moving of Cody Morris to the 60-day disabled list, there is no one for the Guardians to move around the next injury addition will mean a cut has to occur. We talk about the injuries to Luke Maile, James Karinchak, and others. We talk about the Teres Major, the muscle that is the Guardians' bane. We also get into why inactivity is not an option and why the Guardians need to be more like the Rays right now.  We look at payroll, there is different data on the payroll at every single site. We use the Fangraphs one which seems to have the best data. The Guardians rank an embarrassing 29 out of 30 teams, we get into why I think it is they ended up not spending at all in free agency. We also talk about what the hold-ups could be on any big moves for the organization. A very little touch on the CBA, before we shift our focus to Guardians draft picks still in the big leagues. We use the Baseball-Reference Draft Finder to look at who is still around professional baseball. We look at the classes and who is still playing from the draft classes from 2006 to 2018. We start by looking into classes while 2011 and 2016 might be the most famous, it turns out that it is the 2014 class headlined by Bradley Zimmer and Triston McKenzie which has the most players signed and drafted still in professional baseball. The least successful class is very clearly 2007 and only TJ McFarland saves it from being a bust  Now we dig into the players themselves, we talk about how money has been spent and where the Guardians have been successful. The non-tender deadline has passed. We focus on Taylor Clarke of the Diamondbacks and Richard Rodriguez of the Braves in the first segment. Both are pitchers with sparkling control, who very much could fit with the Indians and what they look for. I explain in depth why both could make sense for the Guardians. I also defend backup outfielder Bradley Zimmer and explain why he is still on the roster. Believe it or not, he has trade value due to elite defensive numbers and physical tools.  We go through the rest of the league but it is the Padres three arms Jose Castillo, Matt Strahm, and Trey Wingenter that stand out from the crowd. They have all had injury issues, but have all shown effectiveness in the big leagues and all have missed bats. Especially if they would consider a non roster invite to camp they would all be potential additions to a Guardians bullpen which might be the third biggest need on the team.  It was a busy day for old friends. Three former Guardians signed with new clubs, a pair with the Cubs who have Carter Hawkins formerly of the Guardians. Another was traded right before the non-tender deadline and I really wish the Guardians could have figured out how to have brought Joey Wendle home.
