On today's all new edition of the cast we welcome on Brandon Barker, frontman for the Atlanta, GA based rock outfit Barn Fire. He comes on to talk about the group's humble beginnings down South, his early musical influences and how that set him on the path he is on now, including sharing our mutual love for Ace Enders and The Early November whom I saw solo last month, his connection to music at a young age and how that fostered his musical curiosity, his creative process and how the fruits of his musical labor usually come to fruition, the recording of his single "Senses" and how that all came together and how it's different from some of their other material, plus he lets us in on what he likes to do for fun away from playing and creating music.
Today we're continuing Part II of our series in the Gospel of John. Guest speaker Brandon Barker shares from John 10:1-21.

For more than a century, folklorists have indexed a vast number of the world's folkloric narratives according to varying structures (i.e. tale types) and to discrete elements (i.e. motifs) that commonly appear across cultures. This talk will introduce and analyze several examples of motifs indexed in folklorist Stith Thompson's system. Ultimately, I ask whether stories about origins (human origins or otherwise) might constitute a genuine cultural universal? And if so, what might the folkloric representations of human origins say about a contemporary science of anthropogeny? Have you ever considered how children's games and perceptual illusions are shared, or wondered how they work? Dr. Brandon Barker and Dr. Claiborne Rice explore folk illusions, blending folklore with cognitive science and conceptual blending theory. The illusions include "The Chills," "The Coat Hanger Bell," and "Floating Arms." Ben Danner extends the conversation to ASMR and auditory perceptual illusions that evoke sensory responses. During the season of Advent, Christians remember that Christ, their Saviour, has come. In this season, we enter into the world's longing and need for salvation and redemption. This year, we're looking at four passages known as the Servant Songs from Isaiah. These passages will draw our hearts and minds to who Jesus is and what he came to do. We pray, this Advent season, we will be reminded afresh of the majesty and might of our Christ and the salvation he came to bring.
Brandon Barker, pastor at Westwind Church in Waukee, Iowa, teaches on Exodus 5-6.
