We live in a world that uses the word love for everything from wedding vows to queso. But the love John writes about in 1 John 2:7–11 is something different entirely. It's unconditional. It's self-sacrificing. And it's one of the clearest signs that the light of Christ is actually real in your life. When the light of Christ is real in you, the love of Christ becomes visible through you. So here's the question Pastor Coleman leaves us with: Is it visible through you?

Sermon by John Vandervelde from 1 John 2:3-11
Jesus never separated obedience from love, and neither does John. In this passage, we're reminded that genuine faith is seen not only in what we believe, but in how we treat the people God has placed around us.As the light of Christ shines in us, it exposes bitterness and calls us to something better: sacrificial, visible, Christlike love. The question isn't simply whether we know the command to love, but whether that love is becoming increasingly evident in our lives.

Looking at 1 John 2:15–17, Pastor Sean challenges us to consider where our hearts are truly anchored. The message highlights John's warning against loving the things of this world more than God, reminding us that worldly desires are temporary and ultimately cannot satisfy. Pastor Sean emphasizes that following Christ requires us to hold loosely to the things that are passing away and treasure what is eternal. It's a timely reminder that a life devoted to God is far more valuable than anything the world has to offer.

Sermon Series: Invited to Abide Sermon Title: A Walk in The Light Scripture: John 8:12, 12:46; 1 John 2:1-17 Date: 6.7.2026 Message by: Pastor David Adams
Pastor Christopher Feigles
Many people claim to know God. But in 1 John 2, John challenges us to ask a deeper question: does our walk match our claim? Genuine fellowship with God is not revealed by what we say, but by a growing desire to obey Him.John reminds us that obedience is not a way of earning God's love, but evidence that we truly know Him. And ultimately, sincere obedience looks like walking as Jesus walked — abiding in Him, following His Word, and reflecting His character in everyday life.As we remain in Christ, our lives begin to show what our lips profess: that we belong to Him.
Pastor Micah Klutinoty preaches from 1 John 2:28-3:3 sharing that true children of God are identified not merely by what they profess, but by the fruit that grows from actively abiding in Christ. As believers remain in Him, they gain confidence in their standing before God, respond with worship and gratitude for the Father's amazing love, and pursue purity as they increasingly embrace their new identity in Christ.
Turning our attention to First Epistle of John 2:7–14, Pastor Sean explores John's call to love one another as evidence of a life transformed by Christ. The message highlights how walking in the light is inseparable from loving God's people, while hatred and bitterness keep us stumbling in darkness. Pastor Sean emphasizes that our spiritual maturity is not measured merely by knowledge, but by a growing love for God and others that flows from the Gospel. It's an encouraging reminder that, because of what Christ has done, believers can walk confidently in the light and continue growing in their faith.
John reminds us of a powerful truth: our identity is not found in the world but in Christ. We are forgiven, loved by the Father, and strengthened by God's Word. Yet every day we face competing influences that seek to pull our hearts away from Him. In this message from 1 John 2:12–17, we explore the three great temptations John identifies—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—and learn how to resist a world that is passing away while anchoring our lives in the love of God. This teaching is a call to examine our hearts, renew our devotion to Christ, and live for what will last forever.
On episode 33, host Steven Crawford does a deep dive on 1 John 2:15-16 which references the love of the world, and "If anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in him."After some scripture, Steven gives his not-so immediate reaction to the New Michigan hunting regulations!SUBSCRIBE AND ENJOY! Opening up First Epistle of John 2:1–6, Pastor Sean reminds us that even in our failures, we have hope through Jesus Christ. The message centers on Jesus being our advocate and the One who stands in our place, calling us not to live comfortably in sin, but to walk in obedience to God. Pastor Sean emphasizes that genuine faith is revealed not just through what we say, but through a life that increasingly reflects Christ in the way we live and love. It's a steady reminder that following Jesus means daily surrender, growing closer to Him as we learn to walk the way He walked.
Justin Butler preaches from 1 John 2:18-27 and reminds us that false teachers reveal themselves by departing from the truth, denying who Jesus is, and seeking to deceive the church. In contrast, true believers abide in Christ by accepting His salvation and remaining faithful to the end.
What do you do when guilt weighs heavy on your heart after sinning? Do you readily confess to God through Christ, or do you try to manage and hide your sin while spiraling deeper into poor decisions? First John 2:1-6 reveals that believers don't have to linger in guilt or try to manage their sin alone. You have a righteous advocate who stands with you and an atoning sacrifice whose blood covers every sin. Stop lingering in guilt and start living in grace. What sin are you trying to manage instead of confessing?

Where we left off in 1 John, the churches were warned of false teachers, called antichrists, who were seeking to deceive everyone about the true identity of Jesus. Now, the old apostle tells the church to become what they already are. Having already been declared a child of God by faith in Christ, now the church is to put into practice the righteousness that results from faith. Twist: practicing righteousness may not be what you think it is. Righteous living is relational and not about an individual moral performance.------------------------------------------- Connect with us on Social Media Website | Instagram | Threads | Facebook | Vimeo------------------------------------------- Download our AppApple App Store | Google Play Store
This week's message takes us deep into 1 John 2:3-11, confronting us with an uncomfortable but essential truth: knowing God isn't just about intellectual belief or past spiritual experiences—it shows up in our daily obedience. The challenge here isn't perfection, but direction. Are we actively keeping God's commands, or have we settled into a comfortable Christianity that exists only in memory? The message emphasizes that obedience isn't a legalistic checklist to earn God's love, but rather evidence that His love has truly taken root in our hearts. We're reminded that Jesus gave us both an old and new command—to love one another as He loved us. This isn't generic love for humanity in the abstract, but specific, tangible love for the people right in front of us: our brothers and sisters in Christ, the difficult family member, the person who hurt us years ago. The most striking insight is that love and light always travel together. If we claim to walk in God's light but harbor hatred, bitterness, or unforgiveness toward anyone, we're actually stumbling in darkness. This isn't just theological theory—it's a mirror we must hold up to our own hearts, asking honestly: who have I failed to love? Who do I need to forgive? The call is clear: our faith must move from words to action, from prayer alone to tangible help, from Sunday profession to Monday demonstration.

Pastor Brent Thomas preaches from 1 John 2:7-17 about how God's Word was written so believers can have confident assurance of eternal life, and one of the clearest evidences of that life is true love. True love is seen in wholehearted devotion to God, sacrificial love for others, rejecting hatred, and refusing the empty desires of the world. To truly know Christ is to treasure Him above all else and to live in a way that reflects His love.

Pastor Micah Klutinoty preaches from 1 John 2:1-6 sharing that because of Jesus, believers can truly abide with God and have confident assurance that they know Him. Christ is our Advocate and Propitiation. The One who both satisfies God's righteous wrath and reconciles sinners to the Father. But this grace never leads us to make peace with sin. Instead, fellowship with Jesus is evidenced by a life increasingly of obedience and walking as He walked.
