"Either you can complain about the fact that the resources aren't there, or you can become the resource." - Becky CroftOn this episode of the Runner Rising Podcast I talk with Becky is an indigenous running & strength coach specializing in menopausal and masters athletes. Becky calls her self “sassy” and proud of it. This is exactly why I asked her to be a guest - because her voice online got my attention in the very busy online coaching space. We discuss Becky's evolution from non runner to a coach and voice & resource for indigenous and menopausal runners. After experiencing medically induced menopause in her 30s, running became Becky's outlet. Yet she could not find resources, support or community she desired. She started sharing her story on Instagram, which led to a complete career change and creating a voice for herself and others similar to her in the running space.I hope you'll listen to this valuable discussion and it will inspire you to lean into YOUR voice and stand up for the things you believe in, even when you feel alone or scared. You can find Becky on Instagram at coach.croft on Instagram.
In this episode, I answer a question from Jill in Pennsylvania about how to handle playrooms that share a wall with a waiting area—and the issues that come with that setup. From parents commenting on sessions to kids reacting to sounds from the lobby, these scenarios are more common than you might think. I share the strategies I've used in my own practice to mitigate sound, preserve the integrity of the playroom, and maintain strong therapeutic boundaries. I also offer scripts and practical language you can use to set clear expectations with parents from the very first meeting, as well as how to address disruptions when they happen. Whether it's preserving confidentiality, protecting the therapeutic relationship, or handling lobby meltdowns, this episode is packed with tools to help you advocate for your client and maintain a child-centered space—even when your office setup is less than ideal. Joey & Mulv review City's defeat in the FA Cup Final. Again.
Bible Reading: Mark 4:35-41BOOM! Seven-year-old Carter sat up in bed. Rain spattered against the window, and lightning streaks made his room as bright as day. He could see his favorite teddy bear propped in a corner. BOOM! Another loud crash of thunder. Carter burrowed under his covers, a pillow pressed over his ears. From under the blankets, Carter peeked toward the wall where the rosy glow of a nightlight usually shone, but between flashes of lightning, only blackness filled the room. Cautiously, he poked the button of a little table lamp near his bed, but instead of warm, friendly light, there was nothing. Trembling, he buried himself even deeper in his bed.Rain poured down harder outside, sounding as if someone were hurling tennis balls against the house. Wide awake now, Carter wondered if he dared make a run for his parents' room. Just then he felt a soft touch through his blanket. "Mom?" he asked in a muffled voice."I'm here, honey." Carter looked out from his blanket tent and, as another flash of lightning illuminated the room, saw his mother in her fuzzy green robe standing next to him. Another BOOM shook the house. "Noisy, isn't it?" said Mom. As she sat down on the edge of Carter's bed, the power came back on. With Mom there, and with the familiar light filling the room, Carter no longer felt afraid. "Did you remember that Jesus is right here with you, Carter?" asked Mom. "He was watching over you even before I came in. He controls the wind and rain, you know. We don't have to be afraid because He's with us."Carter began to feel sleepy as he listened to his mother's comforting voice. Her hands closed around his, and he heard her saying, "Thank You, Jesus, for loving Carter and especially for being here with him during the storm." Outside, the storm rumbled farther away while rain dripped quietly from the roof. Through almost-closed eyes, Carter saw his mom turn the light off and tiptoe from his room."Thank You, Jesus," whispered Carter. "I'm so glad You're always here." He yawned, snuggled under his covers, and soon fell asleep. –Phyllis I. KlomparensHow About You?Are you afraid of thunderstorms? Or maybe there's something else that scares you, like meeting new people or being alone in the dark. When you're in a situation that makes you feel scared, remember that Jesus is with you and trust Him to comfort you and help you not be afraid. He loves you so much that He gave His life to save you, and He is always watching over you. Trust Him to take care of you.Today's Key Verse:[Jesus] said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" (NIV) (Mark 4:40)Today's Key Thought:Jesus is always with you

Sammy and Leo Marcus, of Winnipeg, have turned their own sensitivities to the startlingly loud automatic toilets in public washrooms, into a prize-winning science project that's shedding a light on the plight of young kids and also people who wear hearing aids. The teens, who are 13 year old twins, measured hundreds of devices in hundreds of bathrooms across the Manitoba capitol, to document just how loud are those whirring automatic hand driers, the paper towel dispensers, the urinals and the hands-free flushing toilets. They found that not only do these noises cause anxiety, but also often blow past the acceptable legal noise levels that can lead to hearing damage, over a sustained period of time, and require ear protection, especially for janitors and others who work in bathrooms. Curiously, they found that of all the buildings in their survey, the Jewish ones have the quietest restrooms. Their scientific research just won the duo top prize for their age category in Winnipeg's city-wide annual science fair. They call their project The Royal Flush. And while the research has ended, for now, the hope is their work will prompt real change in how bathrooms are designed–not just for maximum hygiene, but also keeping hearing safety in mind. On this episode of The CJN Daily, Sammy and Leo Marcus join to reveal the best and the worst of their findings, and how they coped with strange looks, strict librarians, and grungy stalls. I would like to see Texas become the center of the universe for bitcoin and crypto,” US Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said in 2021. In 2024, Republican Governor Greg Abbott said Texas “wears the crown as the bitcoin mining capital of the world.” But in small towns like Granbury, TX, about an hour southwest of Fort Worth, residents are the ones paying the price for Texas' crypto boom. Granbury's 300-megawatt bitcoin mine, which is owned by Marathon Digital, a Florida-based cryptocurrency company, uses a mix of liquid immersion and industrial fans to prevent over 20,000 computers from overheating. Many residents say that it's the constant sound from those fans that has made life increasingly unbearable in their small town—and that their concerns are going ignored by the company and government officials. In this episode of Working People, we speak with four residents of Granbury living near the Marathon bitcoin mine: Danny Lakey, Karen Pearson, Nick Browning, and Virginia Browning. I got a ride from Norma to the Heart Institute and decided to run the eight kilometers home from there. Richmond Road was too noisy, so I turned onto a quiet street I'd never explored before, Ernest Avenue. I tried to take a shortcut through a bushy path but ended up tangled in blackberry thorns and had to reroute. After getting a bit lost behind the University of Victoria, I finally found my way back toward Mount Tolmie. I finished my run through Lambrick Park, where I had taken my very first run in Victoria back in 1997.
