#180 In this episode of Trek TV we discuss Star Trek: The Next Generation S04E11 - "Data's Day". Hosted by Tracy and Vaughn. Guest starring Derek & Jared. Just what does Data get up to in a typical day? Oh, nothing that different than you or I. Pets his cat. Runs the night shift. Crushes the bones in his partner's feet trying to learn how to dance. Almost destroys a friend's wedding because he apparently has never consumed or internalized any romance fiction. Narrowly avoids stopping a massive Federation intelligence breach. You know, pretty humdrum stuff. Don't worry though, it's not all this boring routine; they manage to make up for that with some of the most exciting barbershop action you could imagine! So put on your least uncanny wig, stop crouching behind that shrub, and enjoy another unexpectedly hair-heavy episode of Trek TV, you lunkhead! Visit our website for fan art, news and more!

Next Generation's First Generation

It's a ride along adventure with our favorite 2nd officer.  Be it an interstellar spy conspiracy or keeping a bride happy, Data is always ready and willing to help.  Try as he might we always look fondly on how he tries to figure it out.

Earl Grey: A Star Trek The Next Generation Podcast

Keiko O'Brien.   Keiko O'Brien first appears in "Data's Day," a season four episode of The Next Generation in which she marries Miles O'Brien. Over the course of the 8 episodes of The Next Generation and 19 episodes of Deep Space Nine in which she appears, we see Keiko as a wife, a mother, a botanist, and a primary school teacher and we even learn a little bit about her family history. Keiko is far from a fan favorite, but what do we think about her when discussing the episodes she appears in and the arc of her character? In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Amy Nelson and Justin Oser are joined by Jenn Tifft of the Snap Trek podcast to talk about Keiko O'Brien. The discussion includes Keiko's relationship with her husband, Miles O'Brien, on both The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, her work as a botanist and school teacher, Keiko as a mother to her two children, what we think of her character overall in episodes spanning 10 seasons of Star Trek, and much more! It's finally “Data Has Feelings but The Writers Won't Acknowledge It: The Episode.” “Data's Day” is such a good slice of life episode. There's the phenomenon where some folks who grew up with The Next Generation credit it for being a family to them when their upbringings didn't give them a family. No episode shows that as well as this one. I gripe about continuity, then turn around and demand better characterization. I think “Data's Day” beautifully exemplifies how those two things, when they're done well, go together. The touches that include things like Worf shopping for a wedding gift before he starts work in the morning show us good things about Worf's character and about how the Enterprise works. We learn the Enterprise's shift rotations and I know it's only here to support the literal day-in-the-life perspective of this story, but I like it. Does it really matter though? Does this minutiae make TNG better or is it just an indulgent scene for nerds, providing content which neither tells a story nor enriches the viewer, but exists just to provide visceral satisfaction? This week's guest host is Shauna, from the Bunny Trails Podcast. You can find her on Twitter as @BunnyTrailsPod and on the podcast's Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/bunnytrailspod. And now, it's time for round two of Star Trek: a foray into The Next Generation.Set long after the original show, this popular series returns to the Trek universe for another set of adventures aboard a later iteration of the Enterprise. Its crew of beloved characters include Patrick Stewart's Captain Jean-Luc Picard, LeVar Burton's Geordi Laforge, and Brent Spiner's android Data. But since we've never actually watched it, dedicated TNG fangirl Sarah Weitman (who you might recall from our 30 Rock episode) is here as our navigator. She's asked us to watch three episodes in a specific order: Data's Day from season four, The Chase from season six, and finally I, Borg from season five. Be sure to watch before listening, as the podcast has lots of spoilers.Just like with the original series, you can find all of this on Netflix and CBS All Access, or you can rent episodes from the usual services - Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, Vudu. Season Four Overview. Viewers flocked to the season-four premiere of The Next Generation to see if the Enterprise-D would survive the Borg attack and whether Locutus of Borg versus Captain William T. Riker would mean the end of Jean-Luc Picard. The rest of the season introduced the family members of our crew ("Family," "Brothers," "Reunion"), saw Chief O'Brien get married ("Data's Day"), and Wesley Crusher finally moved on from the Federation flagship ("Final Mission"). In this episode of Earl Grey, Daniel, Phillip, and Darren discuss the introduction of the Cardassians, the expansion of the Klingon civil war arc (featuring Daniel's favorite shadowy Romulan), and what episodes made us laugh, think, and cry the most during the season that fully established TNG as a Star Trek incarnation with its own identity and success.   Hosts Daniel Proulx, Phillip Gilfus, and Darren Moser   Editor and Producer Darren Moser   Associate Producer Will Nguyen   Chapters The Best of Both Worlds (2:03) Family (5:51) Passing TOS (11:03) Family Season?
