Hey everyone! In this episode, I get to sit down (leg over the chair) with the lovely Jonathan Frakes, who, of course, played the legendary (and dreamy) William T. Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation. We dive into so much—getting the role on Next Gen, his first directing job, and even his thoughts on the convention circuit and the sweaty fans. You guys, I so want to be in Star Trek and I'm hoping Jonathan can help me do that. I pitched myself pretty hard here, so fingers crossed! Stick around for the hindsight to find out how much of a Star Trek nerd my producer, Jeph, is while we answer your comments and emails in the Mail Sack. This episode we're talking Commander William T. Riker, the episode "Second Chances" from the 6th season of TNG, and what it would be like to meet our younger selves. SHOW NOTES William T. Riker | Memory Alpha | Fandom Second Chances (episode) | Memory Alpha | Fandom Music by Charles Michel
KILL ALL MEN? That's the tantalizing hook for the latest episode in our Trials of Season Two theme month and guest co-hosts Kat Spada of Feminist Frequency Radio and artist Ethan Harper can't help but think what might've been. Instead, we get an episode about a member of the Q Continuum who wants to die. The only thing stopping him is another member of the Q Continuum -- John de Lancie! Can he convince Captain Janeway to rule in his favor and sentence a wayward Q to an eternity trapped inside a comet or will she grant Death Wish Q asylum so that he can become mortal as a means of ending his own life. Oh -- and there's a surprise cameo by William T. Riker. The grades start at (25:33). Check out Kat's Voyager-themed manicure here. If you're enjoying the show, consider rating and reviewing us. After episodes on Star Trek II and Star Trek III, our five episode mission- which I'm calling #mysummerofstartrek- takes a change of course this week as we move to TV and to the crew of The Enterprise as captained by Jean-Luc Picard. Yep, that's right we're talking TNG as Paul, Kieran and I discuss the episode 'Q Who'. So that's Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 2, Episode 16- an excellent episode of television where the crew of the ship encounter mega-villains the Borg. You can expect conversation about the Borg (from their debut here right up to their recent appearance in Picard series 3), talk of John de Lancie's Q, comparisons to Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica and Firefly, the allure of William T. Riker, going for a wee in Star Trek uniform and much, much more. And where do we go from here? Well, next time around we discuss 'Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home'. But for now.... ENGAGE!
As Pax recovers from vacation, Evan returns to the Lounge for a bit with Michael, Rob, and guest-lounger Michael DiGiovanni. In this first half of the discussion, the conversation includes butt tattoos, underwear preferences, Joe Hill, nepotism, how horror works in books vs film, jazz trombone, William T Riker, Fourth Chair Carryover Questions, the difference between the book and movie versions of Prisoner of Azkaban, The New Classic Film Jerks, the Off Panel comic book interview podcast, the Purple Stuff podcast, letting your kids introduce you to new music, celebrity podcasts, Action Comics, Dawn of DC, Star Trek: Double Double by Michael Jan Friedman, Cassandra Cain as Batgirl, and X-Men comics.
Captain Picard forgets an old promise. Join your simulated hosts as they discuss deliciously erudite dialogue, the rare but welcome repercussions from a previous adventure, and the many variations on William T. Riker (holographic and otherwise). Spoiler warning! We dive right into a detail-rich discussion of this episode, so if you haven't had a chance to see it yet – beware! Next week: We begin our weekly coverage of the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard with the premiere episode, "The Next Generation" Note that this and all episodes of the It's Got Star Trek podcast contain explicit language and, frankly, an unnecessary amount of offensive content, so the show is intended only for adults and really really cool kids. In this episode of Displaced in Space, Angelina and Sam discuss "Death Wish," Season 2, episode 18 of Star Trek: Voyager. This week John Delancey showed up to be a misogynist and sexually harass Captain Janeway. William T. Riker also showed up -- too bad he won't remember it.

Captain's Log, Star Date 48632.4 The Apocalypse Video Trek Cast is about to complete the first leg of its 178 part journey. And it is with great reluctance that I turn over the duties of Captain, albeit temporarily, to Ensign Michael as he prepares for his first assignment as Host of the Podcast – I can only hope that he does not emulate the command style of William T. Riker, lest we crash the show into a barren planet… I'm your (real) host, Dave, and joining me as we activate our emotion chips are fellow Trekkies Mike and Jackie. Topics covered in this assignment include a possible explanation as to why the Enterprise is the only ship in the quadrant (...again); the Academy Award nominated cinematographer of the film teaches us that scenes are more dramatic when everything is super dim; and finally, we shake our heads at Picard's utter indifference at the total destruction of the beloved Enterprise-D. This week on Episode 516 of Priority One: that's a wrap on filming for season one of Strange New Worlds, details on Trek panels for Comic-Con@Home, and Lower Decks beams back onto screens next month! In gaming news, Harcourt Fenton Mudd is at it again, scouring the galaxy to bring you deals and gear from across time itself, and the newest patch to Star Trek Fleet Command brings a commanding presence to the game. This week's Community Question is: What is the next Star Trek Online event reward you would like to be made available for purchase? Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! TREK IT OUT Edited by Thomas Reynolds Strange New Worlds Goes To Wrap 1 By Cat Hough Last week, Anson Mount tweeted that filming for the last episode of Season 1 for Strange New Worlds has started. He also hinted at some surprises in store, saying, “old school fans are going to [be] VERY excited to see what we're trying to pull off with this one. Getting to do many things I've never attempted as an actor. So much fun!" https://twitter.com/ansonmount/status/1412781659376787459?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1412781659376787459%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ffilmdaily.co%2Fobsessions%2Fstar-trek%2Fstrange-new-worlds%2F No release date has been announced for Strange New Worlds, but to recap what we do know about it: first, it is more episodic than Discovery or Picard. Second, it will likely have a more classic Original Series theme and look. Showrunner Akiva Goldsman said it's important to keep continuity with The Original Series, while also distinguishing Strange New Worlds as its own show. Can't even tell the difference. Image: ViacomCBS. Goldsman described it to The Hollywood Reporter saying, “Remember the Enterprise existed as a little piece of [the show Discovery] but now is its own object. When you close your eyes and think of the key sets and situations that you think of in The Original Series, that's what we're looking to do." We may possibly get more information during Comic-Con@Home since a Star Trek Universe panel has been announced–though my best guess will be sometime in early 2022. Star Trek@Comic-Con@Home By Cat Hough Speaking of the San Diego Comic-Con–or the virtual version, Comic-Con@Home–Paramount+ announced back-to-back Star Trek panels starting Friday, July 23 at 10 a.m. PT. Paramount+'s Comic-Con panels will feature sessions with the cast and producers from Star Trek: Prodigy and Star Trek: Lower Decks. Images: ViacomCBS/Comic-Con International, via Deadline. Prodigy, the first Star Trek animated kids series [TAS doesn't count, we've been over this already–Ed.], will kick off the presentation with Lower Decks set to follow. The Prodigy presentation will be the inaugural panel for the upcoming kids series, following a crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together, while navigating a greater galaxy in search of a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered, but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents. Lower Decks voice cast members Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid and Eugene Cordero will then appear with creator Mike McMahan for an exclusive conversation and an extended look at Season 2 with Lower Decks' own Jerry O'Connell moderating the conversations. And speaking of Lower Decks… Lower Decks Season 2, Coming Through! By Rosco McQueen It's officially one month until Lower Decks returns to the screen for season two, with a very short teaser released this week. While the teaser was short, in Lower Decks fashion it was brimming with details. In the opening shot alone we saw the Cerritos alongside some Parliament-class starships, Andorian cruisers, a Maquis Raider and a couple of Daedalus-class ships, all docked at a starbase that seems inspired by the Watchtower-class from Trek-lit novels. In the teaser Mariner and Boimler crash through a space mall in a space dune buggy, and narrowly avoid some space fish people [they're not people!–Ed.] originally seen in The Next Generation. The lower deckers sport some flashy new dress uniforms, and just to add to the mix, some Commander Data collectable figurines fly out the back of the buggy. https://twitter.com/StarTrek/status/1414630633448480776?s=20 Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comment section at priorityonepodcast.com. Quick News Roundup Here are a few headlines that we didn't discuss but might interest you. The first four Star Trek films are being re-released...this time in 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision and HDR10. What does that mean? You'll be able to make out every follicle of Ricardo Montalban's chest hair [what are you on about, dude was smoother than Michael Phelps on a Slip'n'Slide–Ed.]! Packed with extra features (much like Khan's chest) this 4-disc set doesn't have a release date yet but, we'll be sure to keep you updated! While we're talking about merch, Playmates just announced a new line of Star Trek toys coming in 2022. According to StarTrek.com, there will be a lineup of action figures and accessories from all era's of the franchise–new and old. Star Trek also gets to celebrate some recognition with five Emmy nominations this year. Discovery is up for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup, Outstanding Period And/Or Character Makeup (Non-Prosthetic), Outstanding Sound Editing For A Comedy Or Drama Series, and Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Single Episode. Lower Decks has been nominated for Outstanding Sound Editing For A Comedy Or Drama Series. STAR TREK GAMING NEWS Edited by Thomas Reynolds Taking Some Time On Mudd's Market By Rosco McQueen Harcourt Fenton Mudd is at it again, scouring the galaxy to bring you deals and gear from across time itself. You may find free codes for other Cryptic MMO bundles, including a STO Federation Elite Starter Pack and a Fleet Admiral Bundle–a combined US$70 value–as a thank-you for participating. Commanding Time In Star Trek Fleet Command By Rosco McQueen It's the best of both worlds, only this time it's part three! The third section of Star Trek Fleet Command's Next Generation arc has just landed, with Commander William T. Riker in the spotlight. Patch 32 brings with it a new officer, a new ship and, for Star Trek Online players, some familiar gameplay elements to the Kelvin Universe. “With the Enterprise-D mysteriously returned to its former glory, the time has come to find and rescue the rest of the crew and get them home to their own universe. You manage to track down Commander William Riker, who finds himself at the forefront of the Bajoran resistance against the rampant Cardassian Empire. And with the Cardassians holding many Enterprise-D crew members captive, the conflict is personal for Riker.” Amazing, The Beard actually overpowers the lens flare. Image: Scopely. Also there are some changes to the Away Team assignments. Introduced in Patch 30, this feature gives you the possibility to send officers on Assignments and receive rewards. Now the assignments are part of your daily goals, giving players the ability to gain more daily goal points and more speed ups. So in STO terms, duty officer assignments have been added to the endeavor system. Available to players in this patch is a new officer: Epic William Riker, a new ship: the Meridian, an isogen mining vessel, fifteen new missions and more.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Defiant Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 9 of Deep Space Nine: Defiant. In this episode, we have a very special guest star in Jonathan Frakes...but it's a Jonathan Frakes with sideburns (that is a clue of something apparently)? Also in this episode, we have a very cranky over-worked Kira whose head is turned when Riker turns on his charm. Defiant Kira is having a bad day and is snapping at everyone. Bashir eventually decides she needs a vacation and orders her off duty and into Quark's for some "fun." While she's chilling at Quark's she meets (supposedly) William T. Riker from the Enterprise. They spend a fun evening together chatting and Kira is distracted by his charm and beauty....in fact...she's so distracted that she gives him access to the Defiant's systems...and whooops....shouldn't have done that, because this in fact is not Will Riker! And we are in for some big trouble. What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Please listen to some of our favorite episodes like Duet and The Wire or check out the previous episode, Meridian. Next time... Join us for the next episode S3E10: Fascination. Book Review “Star Trek: Picard - The Dark Veil.” This month starts production of season two of “Star Trek: Picard” - while it may be another year before we get a new episode, we are still getting new stories from this larger story setting. The trio engages “book club mode” to discuss the second PIC novel - “The Dark Veil” by James Swallow. This book is set on the U.S.S. Titan, with Captain William T. Riker in command. This story takes place approximately 14 years before the event of “Picard” season one, when the Romulan Empire is still facing the threat of the “star death” (supernova) and the Federation has banned synthetic life, following an attack on Mars. This story blends the storylines of Romulans, Tal’Shair, and some other shadowy organizations. We finally meet young Thad Troi-Riker and his linguistic talents, as well as the crew of the Titan. Let us know if you enjoyed this adventure as much as we did!

We first met William T. Riker in 1987, in "Encounter at Farpoint". In the 33 years since, he has grown from a babyfaced first officer to a bearded Starfleet legend. What motivated this man’s rise through the ranks? What is important in his life? What makes him tick? Kevin, Pierre, and Ria discuss the man, the myth, and the legend that is William T. Star Trek Discovery Podcast, featuring Picard and Lower Decks
Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season 1 Episode 6 – Terminal Provocations We’re back with the sixth episode of Lower Decks, titled Terminal Provocations. This episode was written by Executive Story Editor John Cochran and directed by Bob Suarez, who also directed S1E3 Temporal Edict. Ensign Fletcher – Not your exemplary Starfleet Officer This episode, we get to see another Ensign on Lower Decks, namely one Ensign Fletcher, who seems to be a bit of a diplomat, but his other skills seem a tad lacking. The longer he went on in the episode, the more annoying he got. He was SO NOT Starfleet. One nice thing that he brought to the episode was that Mariner and Boimler got to work together on the same side, and they actually worked really well together. Rather than blaming Fletcher for everything, they gave him the credit for everything, which got him promoted to Lieutenant and transferred to Boimler’s dream assignment aboard the USS Titan, Captain William T. Riker’s ship after the events that occurred in Star Trek: Nemesis that occurred in 2379, the previous year, only to get fired six days later. Nice casting of JG Hertzler in this episode I thought the casting of JG Hertzler as the Drookmani captain was particularly brilliant in this episode, including drawing the character with an eyepatch, much like his more famous character General/Chancellor Martok from Deep Space Nine. He always puts on a good performance. It’s Microsoft Clippy! I mean Badgey! Most of the listeners, including Kyle and me, were taken by Clippy, which easily reminded us of the Microsoft Office Assistant, commonly known as Clippy. I was wrong in the episode that it came out with Windows 95. In fact, Clippy was introduced with Microsoft Office in 1997. It was universally hated by users. Tendi & Rutherford used his new holodeck training program that was not quite ready for use in your typical holodeck adventure gone awry that was part Elementary, Dear Data, part The Big Goodbye, and part Fistful of Datas. I enjoyed this part of the story. It’s a beautiful day with actress, singer, and Tony winner Maryann Plunkett. You Might Know Her From A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Little Women, Center Stage, The Squid and the Whale, and Broadway productions of Me and My Girl, The Crucible, and Sunday in the Park with George. Maryann gave us the skinny on playing the piano to play Joanne Rogers, receiving the highest compliment from legendary playwright Arthur Miller, and enduring the horrors of Los Angeles. Plus we go deep on her guest spot as Lieutenant Commander Susanna Leijten on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Will she be on Picard? We are here to “make it so." Follow us on social media: @damianbellino || @rodemanne Discussed this week: My Sister’s Room J.R. Other characters we’re going to see again, besides Picard! We’re back with another episode of The Star Trek Picard Cast! This time, this episode is exclusive to the Picard feed. In this episode, Ruthie and I discuss the other characters that are returning in Star Trek: Picard, besides Jean-Luc Picard himself. Thanks to Fred from the Netherlands for providing most of our pics! Who we know is returning in Star Trek: Picard At this point, we know of five other characters returning in Star Trek: Picard. Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) The first we’ll discuss is someone who doesn’t have a relationship with Picard, Seven of Nine, the ex-Borg from Star Trek: Voyager, played by Jeri Ryan. She was always a compelling character, and well-played, and we are both looking forward to seeing her most of all the characters announced. Jeri Ryan returning as Seven of Nine. Hugh (Jonathan Del Arco) Hugh was first seen in the TNG episode, “I, Borg”. He was a Borg drone who develops his own identity after being separated from the collective. We later see him in the episode Descent. If they are planning to feature the Borg in this series, bringing his character back is a good choice. Jonathan Del Arco returns as Hugh. William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes) Riker was Picard’s First Officer on the Enterprise-D and E. He later became Captain on the USS Titan. This was one character that I thought they had to have back if they are going to do a show on Picard. They were a great team and it only makes sense for him to return.

Welcome to the Introduction to The Star Trek Picard Cast! We’ve finally done it! Hello, and welcome to the first episode of The Star Trek Picard Cast! We bring you this introductory podcast episode to bring you our brand new podcast on Star Trek: Picard! Of course, if you have been listening along to us on The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, we probably don’t need an introduction, but we are Brian Meloche and Ruthie Rink, two long-time Star Trek fans since we were children in the ’70s (Brian) and ’80s (Ruthie). About Us… We’re not going to bore you about us… but you can listen to us talk about our Star Trek fandom. We know that many of you don’t know us from our other Star Trek podcast, The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, so we talk a little about that show, and why we love it, but our love of Trek goes back to the beginning, and we know our Trek very well. Whether you like the show or won’t give it the time of day, we think you will like our take on Trek. You won’t hear it on this episode, but our listeners are a cornerstone of our podcasts here at Talk Through Media, and you will hear as much or more fan interaction on this Trek podcast than you may have ever heard before! What we know about Star Trek: Picard… We talk about the broad strokes of what we know about this show, which isn’t a lot, but we do know a few things. It begins in 2399, and centers around Jean-Luc Picard, who is no longer in Starfleet. We believe he was involved in a rescue attempt to save the people of Romulus. Data will appear in the show, although we know that Data died in Star Trek: Nemesis. The android predecessor to Data, B4, could also play into the show; both roles would be played by Brent Spiner. One of the characters is a cyberneticist, so we believe she may be constructing new androids or involved in trying to reconstruct Data. We also know that the Borg play heavily in the story. Returning are Jonathan Del Arco, who played the liberated Borg, Hugh, in episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation; and Jeri Ryan, in the role of Seven of Nine made famous on Star Trek: Voyager. Of course, Picard was taken by the Borg and made into Locutus, nearly assimilating the Federation and destroying their way of life. It makes sense that the Borg play a central plot element of this show. We also know Picard’s long-time first officer, William T. Riker, and Counselor Deanna Troi return in the show, although they are not members of the main cast. Still, it will be good to see them again and find out what has been going on in their lives. Got any feedback for us? It’s going to be another three months until we have the first episode, although the sixth and final Short Trek of this season is supposed to be a tie-in to this show. Until then, we may have more trailers, and we’ll probably discuss some of the relevant Star Trek films and, of course, Star Trek: The Next Generation. What do you think about the trailers we have seen so far? Please leave your feedback for us! One of the best ways to submit feedback is on our Facebook group. You can also send us an email to picardcast@talkthroughmedia.com or call our voicemail at 216-232-6146. Or, reply to us on Twitter! Subscribe and Support! Riker's Command Offers. William T. Riker serves as first officer on the Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E for a total of 15 years during seven seasons of The Next Generation and four movies. In that time, he is offered command of a Starfleet ship three times and declines each time before finally accepting command of the USS Titan. Why does Riker keep turning down command offers and what do the times we do see him in command say about what he would be like in command of his own ship? In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Amy Nelson and Justin Oser are joined by Brian Meloche, Associate Producer of The Edge, to talk about Riker's command offers. The discussion includes talking about why he declines offers to command three different Starfleet ships, why he accepts command of the USS Titan, and the different times that we see Riker in command of the Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E. Star Trek: Discovery – Season 2, Episode 9: Project Daedalus For a supersized episode 34 of The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, Ruthie and I discuss Season 2 Episode 9 of Star Trek: Discovery, which is titled, Project Daedalus. This episode was written by the newly announced co-showrunner of Season 3, Michelle Paradise, who is currently a co-executive producer on the show, and it was directed by Jonathan Frakes, who you should all know played Commander William T. Riker on TNG and the movies that followed, and has been a longtime director of Trek, including Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Insurrection. This is his third time directing Discovery. Discussion on Project Daedalus begins at 13:00… We begin the podcast with feedback from the previous episode. We get into this episode at 13 minutes exactly. Fred’s Pics! We have been blessed yet again with pics chosen by Fred from The Netherlands, including the cover image. We are going to do something different this week, and feature JUST the pictures this week. We’ll go back to a more traditional blog post next week. Before you look at the Project Daedalus pics… We did a flip of last week’s ratings. Ruthie gave this one a 10, whereas I gave it a 9. Without details, I will just say that the episode reminded me a lot of what happened to T-Dog from The Walking Dead. Airiam was a character we finally got to know and then she’s gone. We’ll be back in (hopefully less than) a week with our next episode. Get in your feedback As always, your feedback is essential to this podcast! We’ll be having a short feedback deadline most weeks this season, due to scheduling issues. We’ll cover more feedback from S2E9 Project Daedalus, so do not hesitate to send in your feedback if you miss the deadline. For Star Trek: Discovery S2E10, which is titled The Red Angel, the deadline to get in your feedback is Friday, March 22, 2019, at 6 PM Eastern/5 PM Central or 11 PM UTC. You can submit feedback via the GSM Feedback page, Facebook Group, Twitter, you can email startrekgsm at gmail dot com, or call the voicemail at (216) 236-5449 and leave us a message there. Make sure to mention you’re calling The Star Trek Discovery Podcast when you call. I’m also podcasting on The Walking Dead. Because of this schedule, we are trying to get our episodes down to a more reasonable podcast length. To help with this, we’d like you to focus on a few key points from the episode, rather than discussing everything about the episode. If submitting a voicemail, please try to keep your calls to 4 minutes or less, with an absolute maximum of 5 minutes. We would like to keep our episodes under 2 hours! Please help with that! It was directed by someone who should need no introduction, Jonathan Frakes, who of course played Commander William T. Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and is no stranger to directing Star Trek, directed Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Insurrection, and a total of 17 episodes of TNG, DS9, VOY and Discovery (including S2E9 later this season). Fred’s Pics! We have been blessed yet again with pics chosen by Fred from The Netherlands, including the cover image. We will show them throughout this blog post. Last time on The Star Trek Discovery Podcast! We start this episode with some feedback from our last episode. The talk about the spore drive seemed to hit a nerve. We explain our thoughts about it… or mine, at least, that the spore drive needs to be explained away, especially with respect to what happens with the Voyager a century later. Although I won’t detail it here, we go through our thoughts here, and I explain a theory that would explain the spore drive and everything we are seeing so far this season at the end of the episode. If you want to know much, you’ll have to listen! Now THIS is Star Trek! This episode advanced the Red Angel plot while feeling like a classic Star Trek story that we all remember! We start with Burnham showing Pike the drawings made by Spock that predict the seven signals months before they ever appeared. STDP 027 – Spock’s Drawing The source of the next signal appears far away in the Beta Quadrant, 51,450 light-years from Discovery’s present position. Pike orders use of the spore drive to get there. Like before, when they get there, the signal has gone away, but Discovery finds an M-class planet that we later learn is called Terralysium, which is much like Earth, but with a radioactive asteroid belt. Like many stories before it, the crew finds a human colony broadcasting a signal over 200 years. It appears the Red Angel had brought a group of 200 that were hiding from the bombs in a church during World War III, just before nuclear bombs were about to be dropped on them. STDP 027 – The Red Angel Church We end up with a “Prime Directive” story (which is called General Order 1 at this point in Federation history) about whether or not the colonists that have settled in New Eden should be told that Earth survived the war and went on to help create the Federation or allow them to evolve their own way without intervention. Unfortunately, the asteroid field is about to fall out of orbit an

Tread Perilously's annual Star Trek Month continues with the worst episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the infamous clipshow known as "Shades of Gray." When the Enterprise scouts a newly discovered planet, Commander William T. Riker gets barbed by a carnivorous plant, which pants a microbe in Riker's nervous system. Geordi and Data beam back down to the planet to investigate the creature as Riker's condition worsens. Finally in a coma, Dr. Polaski can only stave off the infection by forcing Riker to relive some of his best -- and worst -- memories of his first two years as the ship's first officer. Erik and Justice try to talk about an episode with a terminal case of senioritis. Justin introduces Red Dog, the old time Paramount stage hand. Erik suggests Dr. Polaski is Gene Roddenberry's laziest creation. Dr. McCoy's racist tendencies also get examined. The lack of standard issue hardsuits gets raised -- not that it would've helped the crew of the Prometheus. Erik recalls how much he hated Riker as a child even though he loves him now. The discussion turns into a clip show of some of Erik and Justin's favorite topics, including Riker's sexual prowess, their difficult time with anime, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and their love of Airplane II: The Sequel.

The pair also discusses Beautiful lake Erie, Commander William T. Riker, and naked chicks for the ethical treatment of animals.

Star Trek: Titan Pilot Episode. Star Trek fans hunger for the continuing adventures of the 24th Century. Many of those stories live on in the novels, including those with Captain William T. Riker and the starship Titan. However, Daniel, Darren, and Phillip decide to write and pitch their own television pilot for “Star Trek: Titan,” with new characters and some familiar faces. They fill in the senior officers with a diverse group of aliens, and a story that strikes at the heart of the United Federation of Planets. They propose a familiar villain acting in a new capacity, and Captain Riker will face a foe who may know him better than anyone.Who would you want on the crew of the U.S.S. Titan?

Man, the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation is a rough road, idn't it? We watch "Lonely Among Us," "Justice," and "The Battle," and do our best to tease out the highlights from the gunk. It's not easy. We also talk about this week's Elementary, which was absolutely flabbergasted at internet content creators. Like anybody would be dumb enough to create something for the internet!
TNG Season Zero Prequel. We all know and love the trials and tribulations of our beloved TNG crew throughout seven seasons and four feature films ... but how did it all begin for them? Daniel, Darren, and Phillip sit down and create an outline for a "Countdown to 'Encounter' [at Farpoint]" comic book series. The trio imagines a comic book run, similar to IDW'S "Star Trek: Countdown" and "Star Trek: Countdown to Darkness" for the JJ-verse movies, that picks up our characters' lives years before they joined the ranks of the Galaxy-class Enterprise-D. Earl Grey begins issue one with the dramatic court martial of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, following the disastrous loss of his first command, U.S.S. Stargazer. Picard must deal with an overzealous prosecutor, Phillipa Louvois, as well as a visit from recent widow, Dr. Beverly Crusher. The next issues focus on young baby-face Lieutenant William T. Riker and Deanna Troi on Betazed, as the gold-suited Starfleet officer finds himself choosing between love and career promotion (along with a new color uniform). Other issues follow a recently discovered and reactivated android, named Data, who finds his life choices continually challenged by a Lieutenant Bruce Maddox. The trio also creates issues focusing on the Cardassian War, with a young Natasha Yar and Miles O'Brien teaming up to defend Starfleet, as well as a time jump forward to the U.S.S. Hood as Ensign Geordi LaForge continually tries to escape the attention of his meddlesome first officer, Lieutenant Commander Riker. Join Earl Grey as they tell these prequel stories and more of the early adventures of the soon-to-be-infamous crew of the Federation's flagship, U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701-D in Season Zero of The Next Generation. Hosts Daniel Proulx, Phillip Gilfus, & Darren Moser Editor / Producer Darren Moser Executive Producers Norman C. Picard/Riker Relationship. The Kirk/Spock relationship dominates all other depictions between characters in Star Trek. That said, the captain/first officer dynamic of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Commander William T. Riker created a unique and interesting command team for TNG fans. The beard-less, energetic, and fun-loving former first officer of the U.S.S. Hood that we met in "Encounter at Farpoint" was mentored by the senior commander, formerly of the starship Stargazer, for seven years on television and throughout four motion pictures before earning the right to call him a fellow captain. Daniel, Darren, and Phillip discuss how Picard and his Number One learned to lead the Enterprise-D together, their ups and downs, and how a rocky introduction led to a wonderful relationship that would guide the ship and crew through several adventures.Earl Grey discusses moments of Picard versus Riker in episodes like "The Best of Both Worlds," "Peak Performance," and "The Measure of a Man," as well as times the two officers "pranked" one another in "Captain's Holiday" and "Gambit, Parts 1 and 2." The trio focus on Riker's pursuits of the Enterprise's center chair and Picard's mentoring of Will in order for him to finally evolve into the seasoned Captain Riker of the U.S.S. Titan.HostsDaniel Proulx, Phillip Gilfus, & Darren MoserEditor / ProducerDarren MoserExecutive ProducersNorman C. It is war-games a go-go when the Enterprise faces off against the Hathaway, a derelict ship commanded for the games by William T. Riker. Shooting, bobbing, weaving. It is all in good fun, until the Ferengi come in firing real weapons and demanding the Enterprise surrender the Hathaway. It may be time to abandon the Hathaway. Or maybe blow it up. Troi. The introduction of a counselor to the bridge of U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701-D was seen as a product of the therapy-happy 1980s. The character of Deanna Troi went through many changes during her seven seasons on television and four feature films - from wearing a blue skant in "Encounter at Farpoint" to a wedding dress inStar Trek: Nemesis. Troi's role as a bridge officer often fluctuated from merely stating the obvious to making a significant contribution to the conflict du jour. Phillip, Darren, and Daniel discuss the evolution of the character from an accented, "exotic" empath to an in-charge uniform-wearing commander. They discuss her relationships with her Imzadi Commander William T. Riker, her mother Lwaxana, her captain and patient Jean-Luc Picard, and her brief boyfriend, Worf. The trio also struggles with why the writers ignored and "victimized" Troi on far too many occasions. So replicate your favorite chocolate concoction, avoid anything called "tequila," and join Earl Grey for a character profile of Counselor Deanna Troi.HostsDaniel Proulx, Phillip Gilfus, & Darren MoserEditor / ProducerDarren Moser Production Manager Richard Marquez Content Coordinator Will Nguyen ChaptersInitial Thoughts (00:02:20) The not so great (00:07:01) Great joy and gratitude (00:18:00) Major relationships (00:29:51) Worf (00:42:40)Final Thoughts (00:49:37) Send us your feedback! Sexuality and Relationships. The Next Generation was not bashful about examining issues of sexuality and relationships during its seven seasons. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, episodes like "Justice" and "Captain's Holiday" portrayed a 24th Century where sexual expression was much more open and equal for both sexes. TNG also introduced alien species like the Betazed (in the forms of Lwaxana and Deanna Troi), the J'naii ("The Outcast"), and the Trill ("The Host") who have completely different perspectives on romantic relationships. Phillip. Daniel, and Darren examine how Gene Roddenberry's vision of futuristic sexual expression compares to modern day attitudes, and how people will view relationships 300 years from now. The Earl Grey trio attempt to explain how the Commander William T. Riker/Counselor Troi relationship best represents 24th Century mores. So set your coordinates for Risa, bring along your horga'hn, and join in on the discussion of sexuality and relationships in TNG. The Arts in TNG.The Next Generation arguably features the most concerts, play performances, poetry readings, and art works than any other Star Trek television series. Whether it was having every senior officer being musically inclined, having fun in the clay modeling room making a mask or an entry for "Captain Picard Day," or keeping Commander William T. Riker from the nude modeling painting class, TNG inserted cultural works into many episodes. The show's writers/producers made sure that noted Shakespearean performer Sir Patrick Stewart incorporated several references in the series' seven-year run, from the Bard's historical plays to his sonnets. Lt. Commander Data's development in humanity also included his exploration of artistic self-expression, leading to him playing the violin, painting his dreams, and being directed by Captain Jean-Luc Picard in his one-man performance of a "A Christmas Carol." Join co-hosts Phillip Gilfus, Darren Moser, and Daniel Proulx as they find the "sweet spot" of the NCC-1701-D, bust out their Ressikan flute and rolled-up piano keyboard, and talk about the great music, plays, and art of TNG. "The Best of Both Worlds" Alternate Ending. One of the most memorable musical moments in The Next Generation was the final seconds of the season three cliffhanger episode, with the television screen displaying those fateful words, "...To Be Continued." TNG's "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II" opened with the Enterprise-D's deflector weapon being rendered useless by the Borg Collective. But what if it had worked? The destruction of the Borg cube, along with Captain Jean-Luc Picard/Locutus would have shift the show to an almost entirely new series, led by Captain William T. Riker. Darren, Daniel, and Phillip discuss how all the characters would be affected by this change in circumstances, how the series would have radically changed, and if we would have ever seen Sir Patrick Stewart in TNG again. Join Earl Grey as they explore a parallel universe where season four set a new course for the crew of the NCC-1701-D. Season Four Overview. Viewers flocked to the season-four premiere of The Next Generation to see if the Enterprise-D would survive the Borg attack and whether Locutus of Borg versus Captain William T. Riker would mean the end of Jean-Luc Picard. The rest of the season introduced the family members of our crew ("Family," "Brothers," "Reunion"), saw Chief O'Brien get married ("Data's Day"), and Wesley Crusher finally moved on from the Federation flagship ("Final Mission"). In this episode of Earl Grey, Daniel, Phillip, and Darren discuss the introduction of the Cardassians, the expansion of the Klingon civil war arc (featuring Daniel's favorite shadowy Romulan), and what episodes made us laugh, think, and cry the most during the season that fully established TNG as a Star Trek incarnation with its own identity and success. William T. Riker. Commander Riker went through a long and interesting development process, from the beardless version in Season One all the way through to captain of the Titan at the end of Nemesis. In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Phillip Gilfus, Darren Moser, and Daniel Proulx discuss the 24th-century ladies’ man and all around charming second-in-command, William T. Riker.
William T. Riker always wanted his own command. It was his Number One priority—in terms of his career anyway. It’s hard to imagine the allure of the captain’s chair winning out over Minuet, Etana Jol, or certainly Deanna Troi. Yes, Riker’s love of women has been well documented over the years, but there is one other thread that ran through all of TNG: Riker’s desire to one day command his own ship. Fortunately, in the end, he didn’t have to choose. He got his ship and his Imzadi, too. But the road to that final destination was a long and winding one. Let’s take a look at just how that fourth pip landed on Riker’s collar to stay.
