Pierson Fodé is an American actor, Youtuber and model, commonly known for his role as "Brooks" on Disney Channel's Jessie. He grew up on a farm in Moses Lake Washington, where he developed dreams of being a movie star. At 18, Fodé moved out to Los Angeles and made his dream a reality.  He stopped by the studio to chat about his newest film, The Man From Toronto. He shares inside stories of working with Woody Harrleson and Kevin Hart. The boys share more than just a few laughs in this two hour conversation about acting, training, personality tests, and an old secret beard shaving video of Pierson and Brock! Pierson shares his story of taking a huge leap of faith by turning down a huge opportunity that he didn't align with just before booking the largest movie of his life, a bet on himself that would pay off tremendously. He talks about another one of his upcoming roles in Dope Queens, a film that takes place in San Francisco in which Fodé had to undergo a huge weight loss journey. He shares his methods of character development and asks Will how he approaches it as a writer. There's also a Kane announcement!!!  This episode is a great story for someone who has a dream of moving to Los Angeles and making it in entertainment; a real inside look at what it takes to be an actor at the highest level. This week I had the unbelievable pleasure of sitting down with podcast queen and comedian Phoebe Robinson to talk about the struggle of getting your foot in the door so you can hold it open for the women who come after you. Real talk: it's a struggle out there for us women to be seen as valuable storytellers and entrepreneurs, and that's why it is so, so, SO important for us to lift each other up whenever we can. We also talk about Jason Momoa, in case you were worried this episode got too heavy.Phoebe Robinson is a stand-up comedian, actress, podcaster, and the author of the New York Times best-seller You Can't Touch My Hair and Other Things I Still Have to Explain. She is best known as the co-creator and co-star of the hit WNYC Studios podcast 2 Dope Queens, which was turned into four one-hour, critically-acclaimed HBO specials. Her sophomore book Everything's Trash, But It's Okay was published by Dutton on October 16, 2018.Catch Phoebe on tour!--If you liked this zany, messy, totally real conversation then you'll love the Start Today Morning Show - a weekday morning show that absolutely not one person is talking about. I spent years struggling to grow and scale my small business, desperate for the knowledge that would help me grow my profit and be a better leader for my team and my family. After attending countless business conferences over the years and speaking at even more I became aware of something that was missing. I wanted to create a business conference that was TACTICAL and INSPIRING. I wanted attendees to leave feeling UNSTOPPABLE and EMPOWERED by all of the new tools in their tool kit. That's why I created the RISE Business Conference. I am positive this conference will be the most impactful event I've ever done because when someone learns to successfully grow their business, it changes their lives --and their families lives-- for generations. Phoebe Robinson knows too well the feeling of being “the only one.” Whether it was being the only black person in her grade, the only woman or person of color on a standup show, or the only person being asked to step out of the line at the airport, the ongoing impact is exhausting. Which is why, as Phoebe tells Marc, she always wants to be doing her own thing on her own terms, from 2 Dope Queens to writing bestselling books to her most recent podcast, Sooo Many White Guys. Also, Phoebe and Marc compare notes on interviewing the Obamas. This episode is sponsored by the Broad City series finale on Comedy Central. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. For the 800th episode of WTF, Marc welcomes back the show's very first guest, Jeff Ross. Just as WTF evolved since that first episode in 2009, Jeff evolved from the Roastmaster General to a comedian using his talent as a put-down artist in order to help us all better understand each other. He also talks about the unique relationships he built along the way with people like Buddy Hackett, Billy Crystal, Sid Caesar, Mel Brooks and, yes, Donald Trump. This episode is sponsored by Louis CK 2017 on Netflix, 2 Dope Queens on Spotify, and Kabbage. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
