5th Anniversary Flashback RED Episode #121: A Conversation with Jeff Galloway About Summer Running & Dunedin Brewery

It's our 5th Anniversary this month. As part of the celebration, we will post flashback episodes all month long to celebrate and say thank you. If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community. Next up is another special interview with Jeff Galloway about hot weather running.  We thought: It's summer, it's hot, it's humid, and we have a  great coach whose timeless tips will get us through this part of our training season no matter the year.    RUN We are privileged to help celebrate our running coach's 75th birthday this week!  Jeff Galloway, America's Coach and ours, turns 75 on July 12th!  There is no way we could ever thank him for the inspiration, expertise, support, friendship, and love he has shown us.  We are so lucky to have him on the show this week. First, we want to tell everyone about his 75th Birthday Challenge.   There are many ways to help him celebrate.  You can do 75 miles in July, 7.5 miles on July 12th, 75 laps around a track or 1/4-mile segments, or a 75-lap relay.  You get an official race number and website to log your miles and an e-certificate for completing your challenge! Second, of course, we want to share his expertise.  The summer running season is upon us, and we need to run safely when we are outside.  The dramatic rise in heat and humidity requires us to train smart.  Jeff shares tips and tricks for combating the heat and being successful in the heart of the summer. Here's a link to his article recapping his tips for running in the heat. https://www.jeffgalloway.com/2007/06/15/dealing_with_th/ If you are looking for a virtual race, we have a discount code for the Virtual Pace Series website to offer everyone in the Runcation Nation.  Use RUNEATDRINK10 at their website to get 10% off any event!  We will be doing one soon!   EAT Dunedin is a town that we were able to visit when we were away in Clearwater visiting family last month.  We were introduced to Dunedin Brewery during the Fit Foodie Run on Episode 14 of our show.  Their brewery is so beautiful.  It looks like a castle set back in the Medieval Times.  There is seating indoors, the tanks where they brew their delicious beer, and well-shaded outdoor seating.  We had Fried Pretzel Bites with Brown Ale Mustard and Beer Cheese.    They were so tasty.  The pretzel was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside with just the right amount of salt.  The mustard was tangy, and the beer cheese was warm, melty, and just the right amount of bite in flavor.   DRINK Dunedin Brewery also has terrific beer.  We had the Apricot Peach and the air. Pilsner.  They were full of flavor, light, crisp, and refreshing for a hot summer day.  Both were inexpensive at $6 and $5 for a 16-ounce pour, and they were sessionable offerings at 6.2 and 4.2 ABV.  Stay awhile!  We wanted to have much more of their beer menu. THAT'S A WRAP! If you love what you hear, you can become a patron and support the show, too!  There are multiple patronage levels from $2 to $10, each with its own unique perks.     Find out more and support the show here: https://www.patreon.com/Runeatdrinkpodcast  Or, if you are a Podbean user, here: https://patron.podbean.com/runeatdrinkpodcast   Another great way to support us for free is to post a rating and review on Apple Podcasts.  We had one that warmed our hearts this week, so we shared it.  Your support with one helps us grow our Runcation Nation! Or you can call 941- 677-2733.  Please leave us a 1-minute message and let us make you runcation nation famous! Thank you for listening! He's also the creator of more side projects and out of this world ventures than you can shake a fist at! From managing Florida's oldest micro-brewery and restaurant (which of course contains one of the most incredible intimate music venues in the southeast) to managing his music career, Mike has more experience in the business than most. We were absolutely ecstatic having Mike come on the show before playing with S.P.O.R.E at 1904 Music Hall this weekend. This is a flashback episode.  We registered for the Fit Foodie 5K and planned to run it in September of 2017.  Then Hurricane Irma had other plans and it got postponed to December 2017.  If you all have been following me on social media, you know I had an injury during December as well as a crazy holiday schedule that delayed some of my podcasts.  So this is a look back at a fun race where we met some amazing people.   RUN The Fit Foodie 5K course had a long and tall bridge in Clearwater, so if this race series comes back and you need to practice some hills, it is a great one.  The John Hancock Village with food and beverages afterward was a great time.  If you are not local to Florida, they run this series all over the country.  So be sure to check it out near you if it comes back next year!  CHARITY We talked with Jessica Bomberg, Vice President for Peer-to-Peer Fundraising with No Kid Hungry.  She talked about their amazing organization and what they do to fight childhood hunger. Please consider running next year, donating on their website, or volunteering to help their cause.  (Not a paid advertisement, we just think what they do is great.)   EAT Next we stopped by to see Rene Marquis cook some Cauliflower Fried Rice.  It had Forbidden Rice, Tofu, Edamame, and more.  The smell of the soy sauce and spices would have made your mouth water and it is healthy.  It was a tasty dish and looked so easy to make!     DRINK Next up, Dunedin Brewery and a chat with Mike Graff from sales and distribution.  We tried an Apricot Peach American Wheat Beer they brought along and Mike helped us toast our accomplishment.  It is one of the most established breweries in Florida, so if you are ever in town, check them out!   Thanks for watching!  Please subscribe and rate us on iTunes. We would love to hear your feedback and need your help getting discovered as a podcast! Follow us on our website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Jon Ditty is a rapper/songwriter/artist/activist from Dunedin, FL, practicing hip-hop for just over a decade. He has released two full-length studio albums, in addition to several recorded collaborations with bands in the Tampa Bay Area. Known for his verbose, zany, acrobatic, & witty lyricism, Jon has become a mainstay personality at Dunedin Brewery, sitting in with bands of varying genres. Having opened up for artists like Sage Francis, Slum Village, The Heavy Pets, and many more, his stage show pushes the boundaries of a typical hip-hop performance, incorporating theatrics and controllerism He is also the founder of the Dunedin Lyricist Society, a freestyle hip-hop open mic, operating since July of 2012. In this episode we rapped about Millenals, age entitlement, hip-hop, rapping lyrics while running, daily habits, writing, learning to say no, regrouping by creating and collaborating and networking. Quotes from the show - "I wrote it from an outside perspective. " On creating "Ode to Mr. Bungle" - I attribute a number of positive habits from hip-hop." - Some of my best ideas come when I am driving in the shower or literally about to fall asleep." - On implementing graphic design and bottle art for the Dunedin Brewery " There is a facet of my job that has this creative outlet." - "The music has to exist for the lyrics to come out of me." - " It was something I got into gradually." In regards to hip-hop - " I have found all the weird rap." - "It's ok to do something off the beaten path or not something that's straight forward."
