This is our 2025, Season Six Premiere! This week we are discussing The Dead Files “Hotel Hell” (Season 1 Episode 5) which aired October 28, 2011.We really liked this episode, it was super fun looking back on the old way of doing things, way back in Season 1 of The Dead Files. We debated whether ghosts are transparent or not, compared film vs video, and pondered whether Amy Allan actually saw a different spirit than what was said in the episode. Amy Allan, please let us know! So, grab your hair goop, and join us where… The Activity Continues. Content Warning:In this episode we mention suicide, and even have a short little true crime talk. Also, while Amy and Steve's swears are bleeped on TV, ours are not. The Activity Continues is a paranormal podcast where soul friends Amy, Megan, and AP chat about true crime, ghost stories, haunts, dreams, and other paranormal stuff including the TV show, The Dead Files. Our recaps are full of recurring jokes about recurring tropes. We also occasionally do interviews with people from the paranormal world, with the goal of learning from others and sharing that with you! We think you'll really benefit from the things these people have to say. Sometimes we get a little scientific. We enjoy trying to come up with possible explanations for some of the things that the clients experience. But this by no means indicates that we do not believe the clients or are invalidating their experiences. We do believe. On this week's Labor History Today: Decades before Miami became Havana USA, a wave of leftist, radical, working-class women and men from prerevolutionary Cuba crossed the Florida Straits, made Ybor City the global capital of the Cuban cigar industry, and established the foundation of latinidad in the Sunshine State. Located on the eastern edge of Tampa, Ybor City was a neighborhood of cigar workers and Caribbean revolutionaries who sought refuge against the shifting tides of international political turmoil during the early half of the twentieth century. Producer Patrick Dixon talks with historian Sarah McNamara about her book Ybor City, Crucible of the Latina South, which tells the story of immigrant and U.S.-born Latinas and Latinos who organized strikes, marched against fascism, and criticized U.S. foreign policy. While many members of the immigrant generation maintained their dedication to progressive ideals for years to come, those who came of age in the wake of World War II distanced themselves from leftist politics amidst the Red Scare and the wrecking ball of urban renewal. This portrait of the political shifts that defined Ybor City highlights the underexplored role of women's leadership within movements for social and economic justice as it illustrates how people, places, and politics become who and what they are. The theme for J.C. Newman Cigar Company at the 2024 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show was sports. That is because J.C. Newman Cigar Company had two sports-themed releases. First up, J.C. Newman showcased a second installment of the LeRoy Neiman Collector's Series that draws inspiration from the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Second is a special release honoring the defunct minor league baseball team, the Tampa Smokers. Since J.C. Newman's El Reloj factory is located in Ybor City, Tampa, the company's history is entwined with the history of Tampa, so it is appropriate to honor this team. Both the LeRoy Neiman Collector's Edition and Tampa Smokers cigars are rolled at the El Reloj factory. Additionally, J.C. Newman again brought its cardboard replica of the El Reloj factory to its space at the show. PCA 2024 Report: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-sLe
