“For me, conferences are like little mental vacations: a chance to go visit an interesting place for a couple of days, and come back rested and refreshed with new ideas and perspectives.” -Erin McKean   Con-fer-ence: a large official meeting, usually lasting for a few days, at which people with the same work or interests come together to discuss their views.           Check. From the Latin conferre or ‘bring together'.          Ok, check. How will the team at RESNET fulfill the goals of, and definition of a conference, actually 2 conferences, in 2022? Emma Bennett, RESNET's Standard & Events Manager, joins us to share details about the two, yes, two conferences conducted by RESNET in 2022. The first conference will be held February 21-23, 2022 in Austin, TX. This will be an in-person event with a limit of 400 attendees, so sign up now! There will be 7-8 tracks and 40-50 sessions taking place over the course of the three days. The second conference will be all virtual and held March 10-11, 2022. There is no limit to the number of attendees but sign up now for an early bird discount! The tracks will align with those of the in-person conference, however, there will be about 100 sessions including recordings of the in-person sessions. In-person attendees will have the automatic benefit of access to the all the virtual sessions which will be available all year on demand. Social events are planned for both the conferences built upon the experiences of previous conferences of both types. Emma shares with us the in-person safety requirements developed in conjunction with a consultant, including vaccine verification required for all attendees. “Reports say 78% of moms say they put off taking care of their own health to care for family members.”Let's think about this, if we move our self-care to the top of the priority list (and make it a non-negotiable item without feeling a sense of guilt for doing so), we are positioning ourselves to be a happier, healthier, and better mama overall for your kids.Emma Bennett, LCSW, who specializes in working with new moms. "We need to nurture ourselves just like we nurture our children. If we don't take care of ourselves, feelings of depletion, resentment, and isolation could potentially arise. I feel more centered and present after taking time to engage in self-care, and strongly believe in building it into my daily agenda."This is key.  Building your self-care into your daily schedule – without pushing it or moving it back – allows for you to regroup, refocus, and breathe.  And we know this…if we DON'T build it into our schedule like everything else we do for the family…it's not going to happen.  So choose something that is a non-negotiable for you on a DAILY basis…sleep, going to the gym or for a walk, meditation/yoga, etc.  Another thing to keep in mind - our children use us as a model for how to take care of ourselves.  Shouldn't we be showing them what that means?"Our children look to us and how we treat ourselves," says Bennett. "This goes for many things: how we speak to ourselves, how we treat our bodies, how we value our time. Modeling healthy self-care can be helpful for our children to witness and internalize. We are teaching them that taking care of yourself matters just as much as taking care of your family."So, what are some things we can do care for ourselves?  Ideas Include:  -book YOUR appts for the year-block out time on your phone/in your planner for 20 minutes of reading in morning-go to bed 30 minutes earlier every night-give yourself 5 minutes of meditation each day-go for a walk in the morning or do your daily workout -hydrate (set a goal of how many oz per day)-make a healthy dinner a few times a weekThis episode kicks off our monthly theme of self-care.  We'll be talking all about how to establish this in your daily life/schedule, create non-negotiables, regain guilt-free time, set boundaries, manifest the good stuff, love and care for your body (after having babies), vibrating higher as a mama, wife, and daughter of God.   Resources:  https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/health/wellness/a25655596/self-care-for-moms/Raising Whole Readers Course https://wondrous-author-5392.ck.page/products/raising-whole-readers-online-course?fbclid=IwAR2xkCzCLaSjRT6gIic_oD_UfzXrbJyj5U0KqvAhEq0mYxKdyCoevioIz3EOffering 1-on-1 Coaching Sessions to Support Mamas in Motherhood and Learning at Home!Join our Whole Mamas FB Group with 400+ mamas thriving in motherhood! https://www.facebook.com/groups/2787115248231643Check Out Fun Mama Merch on my website: The Whole Mama (creator-spring.com) Grab THREE READING TIPS and Join Our Mailing List: http://iamthewholemama.com/index.php/sign-up-for-the-whole-mama/Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/thewholemama)

“Making the simple complicated is commonplace;  making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity. -Charles Mingus        How in the world can you deliver an engaging conference in these pandemic times?   What kind of steps and measures must you take to make it awesomely simple and fun for attendees and exhibitors?   This kind of challenge requires creativity. In todays’ podcast we are joined by Emma Bennett and Steve Baden to learn about the creative and exciting changes in store for the RESNET 2021 Conference.   Since early in 2020, the team at RESNET has been planning this virtual event, actually an on-line experience.    This professionally executed, dynamic conference will be like two events under one roof:    - A 3-day, 3-hour live streaming event with key issues, from February 22 to 24, 2021.   - Plus, a library of about 100 prerecorded, 1-hour technical sessions housed in a virtual library accessible all through 2021!   There will be four session themes, really something for everyone: New frontiers of RESNET Building science, water efficiency and health Steering energy programs and policy Navigating finance and real estate   Exhibitors in the virtual exhibit hall will be able to focus on and reach specific types of attendees. There’s a chance for more attendees to come with bulk pricing for 5 or more attendees from the same organization.    There will be lots of fun events: work out classes, cocktail classes, on line chat forums for networking and more. “You change your business plan to anticipate and adapt to changes in the marketplace.”   -Jon Feltheimer It seems like everyone is talking about change lately spurred in a large part by the global pandemic.   Rolling with the changes, staying on mission, continuing to work towards your vision are no mean feats.   How is the team at RESNET adapting the annual conference to deliver the high-quality educational content and social interactions while looking out for the health and safety of all involved?     The team at RESNET had some tough decisions to make regarding the 2021 Conference. After polling the community, the RESNET staff and board found that a virtual conference in 2021 is best for the safety and convenience of attendees to still get quality information.   Emma Bennett and Steve Baden join us to walk us through the inputs, research and decision-making leading up the delivery of the 2021 conference in a virtual format.    We will hear about the changes and some unique benefits of a virtual event including overcoming the common “problem” for in-person attendees of not being able to see all sessions.   The in-person social interactions will morph into unique and interactive networking opportunities. Fittingly, the theme of the 2021 RESNET Conference is “A New Path to the Future”. Stay tuned for more details.   NOTE: Traditional in-person events are planned for the 2022 RESNET Conference in Austin, TX, 2023 RESNET Conference in Scottsdale, AZ and 2024 RESNET Conference in Atlanta, GA  RESTalk: To the RESNET community, we hear you and want to engage.   Pros can learn more at www.RESNET.us/professional  Consumers can learn more at www.RESNET.us Or for more info on this topic contact RESNET at INFO@RESNET.US

First is a piece for three voices devised by James Wilkes called “and I remember a feeling of tightness on the skin…”. This work is based on transcripts of interviews about three people’s experiences of a poetry reading. The transcripts have been organised into a score that explores the ways in which speech elaborates moments of experience, bringing them into being through the work of the voice and through a kind of digestion, of chewing over, which is shared, public and provisional. The second recording (1:31:33) is Emma Bennett’s “SHIFT”. “SHIFT” is a composition drawn from a night-long navigation through a neglected iTunes account. What should be a curated collection of self-defining music is, on this battered laptop, an accidental archive of an artistic practice: stocked with fragments of performance, attempted bird imitations, recorded conversations, and cheap sound effects. “SHIFT” shuffles, impetuous and fascinated, through this database, using indecision, boredom and defiant shamelessness as compositional techniques. https://twitter.com/wilkesjames https://twitter.com/emmbenn http://hubbubresearch.org/ http://www.whitechapelgallery.org/first-thursdays/galleries/art-pavilion/ A transcript of this episode is available to download here: https://lunarpoetrypodcasts.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/ep-85-maria-schrattenholz-melissa-lee-houghton-lpp-transcript.pdf
