New Work in Deutschland steht. People are now calling the Cheesecake Factory's SkinnyLicious menu "fatphobic."Others claim fatphobia is rooted in racism. And now simply enjoying the gym is apparently enough to make someone the enemy. At some point we have to stop making excuses and start having honest conversations about health. In this episode, I react to several viral videos and explain why accountability, discipline, and personal responsibility matter far more than protecting people's feelings.Being challenged isn't hate.Taking care of your health isn't oppression. And encouraging healthier lifestyles isn't discrimination. It's time to bring common sense back to fitness.

This week on the show we are joined once again by Darryl Corley for a dedicated deep dive into race-day nutrition. Following on from our previous conversations covering general nutrition and the value of HRV training, this episode focuses entirely on the fine details of fueling your race for maximum performance. We walk through the entire timeline, from the question of carb loading and night-before meals to managing your nutrition based on your start time. We also break down the science behind race gels, hydration, lactic acid buffer, and the actual causes of race-day cramping. Finally, we look at strategies for athletes tackling multiple races over a single weekend. Xenom is the new competition format following in the footsteps of CrossFit. The question is whether Xenom will become the biggest competitor to Hyrox, CrossFit, or HybridX. What is Xenom's strength? And what does another fitness competition bring to the table? The first Xenom competition recently took place in Frisco, just outside Dallas.
Dr. Andrew Fix once called HYROX dumb, so why did he sign up for the hardest fitness competition of his life anyway? Dr. Andrew Fix records this episode from the parking lot of REI's Denver flagship, prepping for a Run Denver Day event, and uses the moment to talk through his decision to race HYROX this November. He breaks down what the competition actually involves: eight one-kilometer runs split by eight functional stations, sled pushes, wall balls, rowing, and more, all standardized across every city in the world. That global consistency is part of what has turned HYROX into one of the fastest-growing fitness competitions anywhere, but Andrew spends most of the episode on something bigger than the race itself. What happens to your training when nothing is on the calendar? He argues that a real goal, with a real race date attached, changes the entire relationship between effort and motivation. He's honest about the parts of HYROX that make him nervous, including how his legs will hold up during the final wall ball station, and he treats that uncertainty as useful rather than something to avoid. Stress and discomfort, he says, are the stimulus for growth. So what's your version of HYROX? Andrew makes the case that the specific challenge matters far less than the fact of having one. A half marathon, a 14er hike, a dance recital, a fitness show. The finish line matters less than the discipline required to get there and the person you become along the way. Quotes "We all benefit from having some sort of a goal, some sort of a thing on the calendar." (04:17 | Dr. Andrew Fix) "It doesn't matter what the thing is. What matters is that when we have something that's on the calendar, it gives us something to work towards. It gives us a light at the end of the tunnel and it gives us a why." (05:07 | Dr. Andrew Fix) "When we can train with purpose or train on purpose for something, it keeps us motivated." (05:24 | Dr. Andrew Fix) "Get out there and do the thing. Put yourself in a scenario that makes you a little bit uncomfortable because we know that stress and discomfort is the stimulus for growth." (15:04 | Dr. Andrew Fix) "The real benefits can come from the journey of how you got there." A conversation recorded at the recent SportsPro Investment Summit, bringing together two very different investors: Andrea Radrizzani, media entrepreneur and former Leeds United owner, and Alistair Brownlee OBE, double Olympic triathlon champion turned investor. The through-line is what actually makes a sports asset worth owning — and where the value really resides.Leeds United and the weight of history. Radrizzani reflects on the Bielsa era, the club's identity as the sole footballing focus of a proud Northern city, and the burden of expectation rooted in the 2004 Champions League semi-final side (then the sixth-biggest club in world football on £90m revenue). Brownlee, a lifelong Leeds fan, adds the fan's perspective — pride and connection to the city matter as much as trophies.Turnaround clubs vs. trophy assets. Radrizzani's core investment lens: the difference between a turnaround play like Leeds (high appreciation, but one relegation can wipe out value) and buying a top club, now the preserve of sovereign wealth funds and private equity. Football as a luxury/brand asset that appreciates like real estate (the PSG example), but where capital cushions mistakes that a smaller club cannot afford. Relegation as a genuine financial cliff-edge.The new generation of sport and the media-rights problem. Why Super Tri, PTO/T100 and others built on media-rights revenue have pivoted toward mass participation. Only premium rights are growing; the rest is flat or declining. The value of affluent, avid participant communities over passive viewers.Mass participation economics and the HYROX model. Buying a hardcore, high-spending community; defining who your true fans are and how much more they'll pay. The customer-acquisition-cost vs. lifetime-value case, and the adjacent-business boom (apparel, nutrition, training, sports tourism). The open question: consumers now hop between HYROX, Ironman and marathons rather than staying loyal to one ecosystem — and Ironman's acquisition strategy as a response.Owning the ecosystem. Radrizzani's thesis that value lies not in any single point but in connecting the dots across a vertical.Athletes on the cap table. What a famous name is actually worth to a company. Consumer cynicism toward over-endorsing stars (the Neymar/Ronaldo "promiscuity" problem), the premium on authenticity and genuine expertise, and the shift from passive sponsorship fees to equity stakes that drive real ROI. David Beckham cited as the model done well.Brownlee's path from athlete to investor. The solitary, self-reliant nature of individual-sport careers, and how he built an investment practice alongside competing. How much athletes should earn. The 55% wage-to-revenue sustainability benchmark (and Leeds' notorious 120%). Salary caps as what makes US leagues attractive asset classes. The IOC's position on not paying athletes directly. Why economic incentives alone fail to lure athletes to new leagues — Olympic qualification and heritage tournaments still outweigh money.Private equity moving down the value chain. PE consolidating athlete and football agencies to capture player earnings; players themselves becoming more sophisticated investors (the Courtois family-office example).Concentration, unionisation and league design. "Big get bigger" dynamics, UFC-style overpayment at the top, gig-economy pressures on the athlete pyramid, and the collective-bargaining logic of leagues vs. the pure capitalism of boxing.LIV Golf's lessons and what's next. LIV as an early iteration of these themes, the surprising strength of the incumbent (PGA Tour) and heritage/"playing for the shirt," and a look ahead to NBA Europe and how it collides with basketball's existing strongholds. Radrizzani closes on nearly buying a London basketball franchise a decade ago — and why football and media remain his real passion.Unofficial Partner is the leading podcast for the business of sport. OFX EPISODE 299: MORE CANADIAN CONTENT FROM HYROX WORLDS.In this week's episode, we get to catch up with AG world champ Lindsay Bessegato about her experience in Sweden.
The President of Finland secretly showed up at an amateur triathlon last week under a fake name. He swam, cycled, ran. Finished second. Nobody knew who he was until it was over. That story is the opening of this episode — because it sits in sharp contrast to what the EU data says about how Europe actually manages the health of its people. The EU spends 3.7% of its healthcare budget on prevention and 13% on pharmaceuticals. If every EU citizen exercised 150 minutes a week, it would prevent 10,000 deaths annually and save €8 billion. Germany takes an average of 14–15 sick days per employee per year — nearly double the EU average. And the government's response? The Karenztag debate: make the first sick day unpaid. Punish people for being sick instead of incentivising them not to be.Plus: why signing up for something with a date changes everything. And a quick announcement about The Zoo — a Hyrox simulation on August 22nd in Charlottenburg.Never Start Over Again is your weekly Monday reset — hosted by Rickard Long.
Want to run an in-gym event that brings in new members and keeps them around? Download our step-by-step Intramural Open guide. Are the CrossFit Games dead? And should gym owners even care?In this episode of “Run a Profitable Gym,” Two-Brain founder Chris Cooper joins CEO John Franklin to discuss the state of the Games, as it heads into its 20th year.Chris has been on both sides of this conversation. He worked for CrossFit HQ, recently interviewed the brand's new CEO Bruce Edwards, and made the decision to reaffiliate his own gym.He walks through how the Games shifted from a small community meetup into an expensive, sponsor-driven spectacle, and why that shift disconnected it from the everyday members who make up most affiliate gyms.John puts Chris through a four-question report card on whether the Games still market the brand, measure real fitness, bring new people into CrossFit and keep members in affiliates longer.Chris' answers point to one consistent theme: Gyms don't need to wait on HQ to fix this. The pair dig into what's actually working elsewhere, including HYROX, Spartan Race and Street Parking meetups. They explain how gym owners can borrow those ideas to build their own intramural events, using the same repeatable workouts each year so members can track real progress and feel proud of what they've accomplished.Tune in to hear Chris's take on where the Games went wrong, and how any affiliate can create that same “peak moment” feeling for members without needing CrossFit HQ to get it right first.LinksIntramural Open GuideGym Owners UnitedBook a Call0:00 - Are the CrossFit Games still helping gym owners?0:51 - What the CrossFit Games were originally built for3:11 - When the Games stopped helping affiliates7:21 - What gym members are actually looking for10:20 - How the Open lost its original purpose14:42 - Chris Cooper grades the CrossFit Games20:25 - What Chris would change at CrossFit HQ25:12 - Why fitness festivals outperform competitions29:09 - How to reinvent the CrossFit Open for your gym34:23 - Why Chris re-affiliated with CrossFit

He was terminated twice. He filed for divorce. He gained 60 pounds and drank on the highs AND the lows. Then May 5, 2018, he walked out of an AA meeting and hasn't touched alcohol since. Nick Jonsson is a licensed specialized counselor, best-selling author of Executive Loneliness (the book coined a term that now has its own dedicated Wikipedia page), leads one of Asia's largest networks of senior executives, is a TEDx speaker on sleep, and an Ironman triathlete who splits time between Sweden and Asia. He's also the father of a 17-year-old son and a working husband. In this conversation, Nick and Ted go deep on the drift that destroys high-performing men — the anxious-overachiever wound that made them successful in the first place, the 68% of executives who have nobody to confide in (per Harvard Business Review), the corporate stigma that keeps men silent even when they know better, the KLM Tenerife disaster that shows what fear of speaking up actually costs, and Nick's 5-Step framework from Executive Loneliness for the man ready to come back. Plus the through-line Nick applies to triathlon, executive coaching, marriage, sleep, and time — the "principles that work in this work in all areas of life" reframe that turned a mediocre triathlete into an Ironman PR-setter and a man 60 pounds lighter with 30 years of marriage ahead of him. If you're a high-performing man between 25 and 55 with more contacts than you have people to actually call — this one's for you. We are back with another packed episode of Pop Culture Mondays on Thursdays, and this week we are diving headfirst into everything from sports obsession to internet chaos. First up, we are talking about soccer. The world is officially united under the beautiful game, and we need to discuss our collective obsession with Erling Haaland, his incredible bromance with Jude Bellingham, and how the sport is truly bringing everyone together right now. Then, we transition to a different kind of athletic endeavor: Hyrox. It is the fitness obsession taking over the globe, and we are breaking down why absolutely everyone is suddenly obsessed with running and burpees. Next, we shift gears to politics and the internet rumor mill. The shocking, sudden passing of Senator Lindsey Graham has unleashed a wave of conspiracy theories that feel almost too on the nose to ignore, while sparking some very specific celebrations across the internet and the gay community. Finally, we wrap things up with a little candy: the viral mystery of the Zara death trousers and Gen Z's never-ending obsession with the latest season of Love Island.
When postpartum depression left Jersey City runner Michelle Perez feeling completely isolated, a close friend gave her a simple piece of advice: find time to breathe and enjoy the fresh air. "A lot of these things that seem like world-enders at the time can lead to bigger, better, happier things." Alyssa McElheny had a dream: to qualify for the Olympic Trials Marathon. When the qualifying standard dropped from 2:45 to 2:37, she thought it would never happen. But after a quick cry, she decided not to give up on the dream. In November 2025 — after multiple failed attempts — Alyssa got her OTQ, running 2:34:28 at the Indy Monumental Marathon. Two weeks later, she made her Hyrox debut. She thought she would simply dip her toes into the now-trending "hybrid fitness" competition world. But a dip of the toe led to so much more. Last month — just seven months after her first mixed doubles event — Alyssa became the 2026 Hyrox Elite 15 World Champion. In this conversation, she talks about how she very quickly became the best in the Hyrox world. She talks about the pursuit of fun, she shares some common Hyrox misconceptions, and she talks about what's next. FOLLOW ALYSSA @alyssamcelheny SPONSOR: New Balance. Some gyms are struggling to break even on their HYROX affiliation. Others are generating 15X or even 89X return on their affiliation fees.In this episode of “Run a Profitable Gym,” John Franklin sits down with Lisa Palmer, a Two-Brain mentor and HYROX affiliate in London. The U.K. is one of the most mature HYROX markets in the world, roughly three years ahead of North America.Lisa walks through how she layered HYROX onto her CrossFit schedule, replacing low-attendance classes instead of adding new ones, and how the move became an unexpected retention machine, dropping her gym's churn from 14% to under 5%.She and John dig into the full playbook: building race-prep courses around official HYROX events, running simulations that pull in thousands of dollars, using HYROX to catch members who need a lower-impact option, and turning that same funnel into CrossFit upgrades.Lisa also shares what she'd do differently if she were starting over and how gyms of any size can find an entry point.Tune in to learn how to build a HYROX program that actually pays for itself many times over.Want to generate more revenue from HYROX?
