In this Friday Feels episode opens, Jared and Jordana get into Jared's very Florida Christmas and whether he really deserved getting called out for taking selfies in public. They dive into whether Happy New Year” is a criminally lazy dating-app opener, how late is too late to send it, and the exact moment “HNY” becomes unforgivable. Then, a listener questions whether her husband's friends are genuinely uncomfortable or just chaotically harmless, and how much nonsense you're actually expected to tolerate at the beginning of a relationship. Finally, J and J wonder if a listener should 'tolerate' or 'tap-out' – debating whether it's worth pushing for a second date or if rejection is just the universe telling you it was never a match to begin with. The 1% in Recovery Successful Gamblers & Alcoholics Stopping Addiction
Text and Be HeardA holiday sunrise, a warm ocean breeze, and a conversation that cuts to the bone of recovery. Jay P. joins us to explore why quitting the bet can be tougher than quitting the bottle, and how the serenity prayer became a daily operating system for real peace of mind. We open with a simple, powerful frame: train your brain toward natural dopamine, serotonin, endorphins, and oxytocin so you're not hunting relief in places designed to take more than they give.Jay's story maps a pattern many “double winners” recognize. Alcohol numbs, but gambling seduces with hope—the next card, the next line, the next live bet to make it all back. That loop weaponizes uncertainty. We unpack the allure of the bailout win and why a big score often makes the problem worse by hardwiring belief in a system you can't beat. We also tackle the modern sports betting machine: odds baked into broadcasts, ads that never let up, and kids absorbing it all from the couch. Legalization brings access and harm, yet also funding streams for hotlines and treatment. The theme that anchors everything is peace. Holidays magnify triggers, but with honest tools—meetings, community, and a clear boundary around the “first”—calm becomes possible. We trade frantic fixes for simple practices: work hard at what matters, laugh daily, love without keeping score, and choose routines that reward presence over rush. If you're feeling the pull from your screen or your old stories, this conversation offers a steady hand and a sane plan. If it resonates, share it with someone who needs a lifeline, hit follow, and leave a review to help others find the show.Support the showRecovery is Beautiful. In a show of power and influence, Elon Musk whispered his dismay over a bipartisan government funding deal into Donald Trump's ear and the pair worked to threaten and pressure Republicans to support a different last minute Trump/Musk approved deal. Even so, dozens of Republicans joined Democrats in voting down the revised bill - which included a two-year suspension of the debt limit. House Speaker Mike Johnson says Republicans will "come up with another solution" but the deadline to avoid a government shutdown is today. Journalist and political analyst Michael Shure returns - this time as a guest. We'll talk politics and get his take on the shutdown situation. It's a very Florida Christmas. Machetes and meth tucked into stockings with care. Friday Fabulous Florida is upon us. It's a big weekend for holiday movie releases. Our movie critic, The Culture Blaster Michael Snyder, will be along to tell us which ones are worth seeing.

So fill up a cup of Christmas cheer to the brim, remember to stuff your holiday sack, and ponder life's important questions such as… Is mommy kissing Santa Claus really a “turns you into a murderer” traumatic event? Is a violent Santa the sign of a society in decay? And is a “Florida Christmas” a sexual euphemism or simply a description of a joyless way to celebrate the holiday? Listen and find out! Welcome To Marwen, see you in hell. Another bloody film set and another black woman in my bedroom. Florida Christmas trip: bad driving, panic attacks, and mega churches. Vice viewing. The trip back. New Years Eve, not New Years STEVE. Had it with Haddish.
The Season wouldn't be complete without a story by Shelby Strother. As a journalist, and as a writer, Shelby shared his gifts with folks all over the place, and we're all better for it. This particular piece--a Florida Christmas memory-- is something I've been sharing with friends and family for years. Hope you like it half as much as I like reading it.
Each December, my family would embark upon a journey south of here to cut down an authentic Florida Christmas tree--a Sand Pine

Today I sit down with my good friend Kevin Mahoney (“the wind that shakes the barley”) where we discuss his “idealistic” childhood growing up in Minnesota. We get into the origins of our last names and our rebellious teens (you know, the 2000’s…). We’ll talk about the importance of a strong relationship in family and why we both hate talking on the phone (unless it’s our mother of course). Kevin shares his experiences on becoming a writer, what inspires him, and where he finds that inspiration. We’ll discuss Marvel and DC films, our favorite comics, the power of female comedians, and the type of music his dad introduced him to. I find out that Minnesota Christmas is way different than Florida Christmas, and I’m pretty sure I get the ninja turtles mixed up (my bad). Oh and Kevin is convinced no one will ever listen to this podcast (so please prove him wrong). Love, Kris twitter: @KMahon37 @notkristianlugo instagram: @kristianlugo (Kevin doesn't have one.
