In this episode I'm fired up because, shockingly, I discovered a local musician who has little to no respect for their fellow artists. This episode is a lesson in etiquette when you're invited to play a show. Promotion is key in the world of live music, and not promoting a show you're playing is a slap in the face to everyone else on the bill, as well as the venue. What happens when you decide to ignore this advice? Well, you burn bridges. That's because the value of music is subjective. In the context of live music, the value is in how many people you bring, not how good your music is. Listen now to learn how you can avoid burning bridges and take steps to protect yourself from lazy, rude locals who don't care about your show! P.S. enjoy my Glenn Fricker impression… What you'll learn: What to do when someone asks you to play their showHow to promote your showsWhy you need to promote every show you playBad behavior burns bridgesAdding value to the shows you playWhy your music is not valuable in the context of live musicMaking openers agree to a radius clause for any show you playWho this episode is aboutProtecting yourself from the artists who don't care about etiquette For full show notes, visit https://bandhive.rocks/206

My guest today is Glenn Fricker a musician, and engineer, and host of a very successful Youtube channel at Spectre Sound Studios where he teaches great insights into recording and mixing heavy metal, and offers fearless and ruthless gear reviews. Glenn loves making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, he wanted to pass on what he learned through tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. You will find reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, and plugin effects. Everything you've wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found at Spectre Sound Studios. Glenn also designs guitar pedals design releasing the Cock Blocker gate to create perfectly tight heavy guitar performances. Thanks to our sponsors! Live from the Hilton during NAMM 2020! This time around, our podcast mates are replaced with Sarah Longfield, Glenn Fricker, Colin Scott, and Ty Christian as they talk about being youtubers and things they loved on the NAMM floor. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
My guest today is Matt McQueen a studio owner, recording engineer, music producer, and videographer who built his studio in 2013 in an abandoned church located in the mountains of a rural East Tennessee town. The building has a 30 x 50’ live room with 24’ high ceilings and large old wooden rafters. Matt has recently gone full time with his studio having had plenty of experience creating music but also creating content as a videographer for other producers like Warren Huart and Glenn Fricker. This has led him to create his own video channel for his studio to help promote local artists and bands. We live in a world where social media and YouTube channels can be an important part of our musical output. So I’m psyched to talk with Matt today about making the leap to go full time in music and also see what we can learn about creating content for our own studios and artists that we work with. And of course we will be digging into his process for recording and mixing too. Thanks to our sponsors! Glenn Fricker calls 'em like he sees 'em, which is exactly the quality you look for in a good music producer. In this episode of The Music is Win Podcast, Glenn explains what he feels is essential for musicians to possess in order to excel in a studio environment. We also chat about studio war stories, the worst thing about music today, and much, much more. This is one of the rare expletive-ridden episodes you'll find of The Music is Win Podcast, but I'd have it no other way–Glenn is best received unadulterated and without restrictions. Make sure to check out Glenn's YouTube channel and sign up for his new course on producing killer progressive metal tracks. For those of you who prefer video podcasts, you can subscribe to The Music is Win Podcast on YouTube.
