If you're a musician of any caliber that's been around for more than a few years, then you know what the annual NAMM Show is. NAMM which is the acronym for the National Association of Music Merchants, which was founded in 1901. Each year the NAMM Show hosts literally the largest display of musical instruments, professional sound reinforcement equipment, and studio gear. In 2020, 116,000 people attended the annual event held in Anaheim California, known as Winter NAMM. Its sister show called “Summer NAMM” is held each year in Nashville TN. However in 2021, with Covid in full swing, both the Anaheim, along with the Nashville Trade Shows were canceled due to the pandemic. Things started to get back on track in 2021 with a scaled down version of Summer NAMM taking place in Nashville, although the Anaheim show continued to be on hiatus… until this year. 2022 will see for the first time in history the Winter NAMM Show taking place on June 3rd thru the 5th. We talk with Joe Lamond, who is the President and CEO of NAMM, as he shares the following: How he got to his position starting out initially as the drummer with recording artist Tommy Tutone, and also as the tour manager with Todd Rundgren Why the show is now being held in June, along with the move planned for April for 2023, eventually returning to January in 2024 How the show is a resource for prosumers as well as professional musicians, creators, producers, songwriters Joe also shares some memories along the way during his tenure at NAMM, including one Saturday morning conversation with Ray Charles on a golf cart while attending the show. Joe Lamond is the president and CEO of NAMM, the National Association of Music Merchants, a global not-for-profit 501(c)(6) trade association representing more than 10,000 manufacturers and retailers of musical instruments, professional sound, and live event production products. The association's mission is to strengthen the music products industry and promote the pleasures and benefits of making music. Since 2001, Lamond has led the talented team at NAMM to achieve this mission through what the association calls its “Circle of Benefits” business model, reinvesting the proceeds of its successful trade shows into grants, scholarships, scientific research, industry promotions, and public and government relations programs. These efforts have contributed to increased support for music education in our schools and greater awareness around the world of the benefits of active music making for people of all ages. After more than a year without events, being back to ‘normal' can feel a little bit.. abnormal. In this episode of the Event Safety Podcast, Danielle and Steve share their thoughts on ESA's first in-person appearance since Winter 2020 as part of Summer NAMM in Nashville. They discuss what it was like being in a full-capacity, largely unmasked environment after more than a year, the challenges of navigating regional differences in attitudes towards COVID-19, and recap a rare but instructive disagreement that arose during their presentation over the way people typically respond to emergency situations.
Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake and Richard are back with an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast! Brian trolls Richard expertly before telling us about his experiences at Summer NAMM and it's not like any Summer NAMM he's been to before so he gives us a run down of the show before literally almost performing a different kind of run down as he try's to take out the competition. He's also been checking out some new music…well new fro Brian anyhow….and Richard attempts to educate Brian on early German Power metal. Brian then speculates about Winter NAMM and the attendance levels that may or may not manifest themselves. IK Multimedia, the creators of Amplitube, have come out with some cool looking pedals, and the guys chat about the concept and the large footprint IK have chosen. This brings up the subject of digital versus analog pedals and then the guys talks about how digital sounds different to different people and how age affects hearing. Taste and hearing loss have varying effects on our chase for tone as mentioned by one of our listeners, so the guys chat about it. Rick Beato has had some copyright issues with an episode about “The Cars” and Brian discusses it before smoothly transitioning into the newly stoked up debate about streaming which has gone as far as the British parliament. Will the men in glitter be round? Blake admits he likes Wham and Richard discusses the generosity of George Michael.Brian wants to move to Nashville, Woo-girls and pedal cars, Dodgy rocket designs, Aluminium necked guitars, it's all in this week's Chasing Tone! With a Summer NAMM 2021 in the books that had only one third the size of previous years, we discuss the future of guitar shows. Andy just recently returned from a well-growing guitar show in Italy with a bag full of videos and Dan considers Winter NAMM a business essential for him, so there's ample room for a turbulent discussion. We also discuss whether the new Epiphone Slash signature line is dull or good fan-service, what plug-in can make your cheap acoustic sound like an expensive sixstring, and why Reeves Gabrels might have one of the coolest signature axes out there with his new Reverend Dirtbike Royale. Enjoy this last episode, it's time to say goodbye … until season 3!
In this episode we sat down with Adam Levin of Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center from our booth at the summer NAMM show. Visit https://chucklevins.com/ for more info on Adam's store.
Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake and Richard are back with another episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast! The guys talk about the Rockman and a meme that Richard made about a number of requests Wampler have been getting to make their take on it. Blake and Brian educate him a bit about the history of the Rockman, Tom Shultz, Boston, and the sounds it can make before reflecting on price gouging and rare fuzz. Brian suffers from temporal goat non-remembrance and Blake has a new Tolkien inspired pedal that brings him much joy. The guys then realise Brian may not be up to date on his Tolkien when he crumbles under mild interrogation and Richard struggles to keep it together. It's new amp day for Bri! Find out all about his new "dumble" inspired amp and why he had to buy it. He's also off to Summer Namm and the guys discuss the glittery outfit Amanda needs to make for Brian as he struts his stuff in the summer heat. Brian wants to go to space, and predicts he will do one day, and the guys discuss flat earth theory, UFOs, and the myriad alien races that control the planet earth. Dungeons & Dragons, Knob matching, Breaking into cars, the Brijazzle, Speeding Cameras, Brian's cunning disguise, Fuzzy Worms, Richard Branson, it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)DIY modshttps://modyourownpedal.com/collections/booksFind us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)
