Lahtelaistaustainen kitaristi Olli Siikanen on soittanut uransa aikana tuhansia keikkoja erilaisissa kokoonpanoissa lavoilla, studiossa ja televisiobändeissä. Kulunut vuosi on mennyt pääosin Koop Arposen Flute of Shame -bändin kitaristina. Tammikuun lopulla Siikanen suuntaan jo neljättä kertaa NAMM show'hun Kaliforniaan Anaheimiin. NAMM tulee sanoista National Association of Music Merchants. Vuosittain järjestettävä tapahtuma on musiikkialan tuotteiden suurtapahtuma. Toimittaja: Eeva Ristkari
Taj Farrant was just hanging out at home in the backyard around the fire when a live version of “Comfortably Numb” started playing. He declared he wanted to learn to play that guitar solo. He'd only just gotten his first guitar for his birthday, but he set about mastering the solo. And he did. He was 7 years old. His father, Brandin Farrant, wanted to share it with his family, so he put a YouTube video of it up on Facebook. The image of a 7-year-old, with a smile that revealed a gap where he'd lost a baby tooth, wielding a guitar like a pint-size David Gilmour was irresistible. It went viral. What followed was an appearance on “Ellen” and a gig with Michael Jackson's guitarist and fellow Australian Orianthi. Through her, he met Carlos Santana, who as her mentor. And as he'd done for a teenaged Orianthi, the guitar legend invited Taj on stage to perform with him. Taj Farrant on stage with Rob Thomas in 2019. (Photo provided) Now 13, Taj, and his family, split their time between Australia and the United States. On Saturday, March 11, Taj will perform at Howard's Club H. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the show at 7 p.m. Admission is $35. Click for tickets. This North American swing, the Nothing But the Blues tour, will move on from Ohio through Missouri and into the heartland of the blues with shows in Arkansas ending up at the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) convention in California. Taj will be performing with the Missouri blues band Nathan Bryce and Loaded Dice. Brandin Farrant said early on in Australia they tried to put together bands of other musical prodigies, but they couldn't find youngsters who could keep pace with Taj. On this tour, Taj will be joined for a half-dozen songs by his 12-year-old sister Jazel on drums. “She can keep up with him because they live together and play together all the time,” their father said, so she's in synch with his virtuosity. Taj Farrant plays chess with his 12-year-old sister Jazel . She'll play drums on several numbers during the show at Howard's. Taj's musical journey started on his father's shoulders. They were at an AC/DC concert, and Taj was perched on his father, so he got a good look at frontman Angus Young emerging from the ground. That right there made an impression on him, Taj said. Then Young started playing guitar. “It must be pretty hard to play like that and I just wanted to try to learn,” Taj said. “I want to do this for the rest of my life.” For his next birthday his parents and grandparents pitched in to get him a good quality Ibanez Prestige. He now has upgraded his instrument, but that guitar still goes on tour with him. He has all the stars he plays sign it. Other artists including Santana have also contributed to his growing guitar collection. The proceeds from this tour will go to buying a Gibson Custom 355 – the same model as B.B. King's “Lucille.” At first , Taj took a few lessons, but his father then assumed the role of instructor. Brandin Farrant is a drummer, but he started learning guitar so he could teach his son. What he learned in the afternoon, he'd pass on to his son when he got home from school. Now Taj picks up tips from some of the greats. His father has made videos of his playing all along as part of Taj's instruction. This way he could listen back and analyze what he needed to improve on. Those videos though became the conduit for sharing Taj's talents with the world. While COVID put a crimp into live performances, Taj said it was good for him. He holed up at home in Australia and practiced and started to hone his singing chops. He continued to post a weekly video. He's now working on the demos for his first album at their family's home studio. He's back on the road. After this American swing, there's a European tour planned. Brandin Farrant said they hope to get buy their own tour bus soon for traveling around the United States. His parents are both highly regarded tattoo artists who can schedule their work around Taj's touring schedule. Brandin Farrant has as high praise for his wife's artistry as for his son's. Opening his shirt, he displays the photographic tattoo she made for him of Taj in full swing on stage. Taj said he doesn't suffer from stage fright. He admitted the one time he had a touch of nerves was when he joined Rob Thomas on stage in front of an audience of 40,000. But that's the size crowd he wants to attract. “Moving on from here,” he said. “I want to be able to play to as many people as I can. The goal is just to make people happy with what I do.”

After a comprehensive year-long search, The NAMM Executive Committee and CEO Search Committee is pleased to announce industry veteran and music education advocate John Mlynczak is the new President and CEO of The National Association of Music Merchants. The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) has been around for the past 122 years). Simply put, if NAMM wasn't doing it, you would notice, but at the same time, you don't see NAMM helping the music manufacturing industry evolve and grow. With that, comes new membership opportunities, that not only include manufactures and retailers, but now provides an aspect that fits within the individual that works within the music business. John Mlynczak is now only the 4th CEO of the organization in the past 77 years. With that, he's had his hands full in addition to running the organization, but also rebooting the annual trade shows since Covid hit in 2020. The Global Pandemic simply shut down the Winter NAMM Show in January 2021 in Anaheim CA, along with the annual Summer show in Nashville TN. Since the reopening of public gatherings, the folks at NAMM have now worked to host three Winter NAMM Shows over an 18 month period. The most recent show had 50,000+ attendees visit the convention, and with 120 Countries being represented (and with 30% of attendees being international), it's still the largest global gathering of the music industry. John and his team are working to continue to build the brand that NAMM is known for, creating exciting trade shows, along with helping the music industry evolve into the 21st Century. Hello and welcome to episode 8 of Season 1 of the Hanson Hour. This season we are in our Middle of Nowhere era. This is an era that really catapulted the band out of Tulsa and onto the word wide stage, bringing with it a certain mania and hysteria, which honestly I feel comfortable using those words and I reflect on those words in such a positive way, meaning no judgment. Someone that was there to witness this, someone who had a front row seat to it all is an incredible man named Ravi Hutheesing. He fell in love with music at age 11 and by starting a band, building a recording studio, and teaching a handful of guitar students, Ravi established himself locally as an artist-entrepreneur before graduating high school. His worldwide visibility skyrocketed in 1997 when he became the guitarist for triple Grammy nominee, Hanson, whose massive millennial fan base catapulted them to the White House, Madison Square Garden, Tonight Show, Good Morning America, Saturday Night Live, and more. The following year, Simon & Schuster published his memoir, Dancin' with Hanson, and he has since authored over a hundred articles for major magazines. As the Internet rose and the recording industry declined, Ravi began to speak on entrepreneurship at music universities and conventions including Berklee College of Music in Boston, the National Association of Music Merchants in Los Angeles, MusikMesse in Moscow, and Music China in Shanghai. You can find Ravi @raviunites.com or www.raviunites.com. Dancin' with Hanson is available now.
Nick's excited that Coachella is back but only so we can play your favorite game, “Viral or Eyeroll.” For any new listeners, in this game contestants hear a headline and decide it's a viral sensation or a total fabrication. Given the subject matter, every story is anyone's guess! Song: Julius Rodriguez – “Blues at the Barn”Keep those seatbelts on kids, because Greg is taking straight to NAMM! The National Association of Music Merchants is an annual exhibition and one of the largest music product trade shows in the world. Greg has participated in the last five or six and, aside from giving us the scoops on the latest gear, mostly wanted to use his time to convince Nick & Jay that they have to attend next year's event.Song: Squid – “Swing (in a Dream)”Jay provides a remembrance for another jazz legend as Ahmad Jamal passed last week at the age of 92. Aside from being one of Jay's favorite jazz pianists, Jamal's career spans over seven decades and his laid-back and sparse style influenced future legends like Herbie Hancock & Keith Jarrett. We'll let Miles Davis have the last word, as he once said “All my inspiration comes from Ahmad Jamal.”Songs:Ahmad Jamal – “Dolphin Dance”Ahmad Jamal – “Stolen Moments”

Please join us in welcoming Raspin Stuwart to our studio to chat with Heart of Indie Radio Co-Host- Avery Raquel Singer/songwriter/song stylist Raspin Stuwart's life and career can best be described as a Tale of Two Cities – Chicago and Los Angeles, that is! However, these two cities are just starting points for a performer with truly universal appeal.. Born and raised in the Chicago area, Raspin was surrounded by the influences of the blues and jazz music greats of the era, as well as the popularity of the singer-songwriter music genre of the 1970s that begat one-of-a-kind talents such as Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen and Cat Stevens. His music is equally informed by the entirety of his adult life in Los Angeles, measured by his professional successes over the decades since arriving in the City of Angels to seek his fame and fortune at the tender age of 17. Like the music heroes who today remain relevant, serious music lovers of all ages relate to Raspin's performances, his complex and intriguing lyrics, and inspired covers of classics. Raspin's emotional vocals, striking lyrics impact brightly on the listener, a stark contrast to his hypnotic melodic background. As evidenced on his new CD, NY2LA , his eclectic mix of theatrical, captivating and soulful music provides the perfect follow-up to his critically acclaimed, Starbucks-endorsed CD, We Do What We Do. Tracks on his NY2LA include a reggae version of “Smoke the Hookah,” the jazzish “New York 2 L.A.,” “Love Along the Way” (a unique pop hybrid rooted in the 1960s), the soulful, down-home warmth blues of “Mama's Got the Blues,”. Keeping Raspin in demand after long ago establishing himself in the music world is the fact that he remains the newest and freshest “veteran” musician, singer, songwriter and song stylist working today. His appearances at NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) in recent years, as well as his inclusion in the stellar lineup for Southern California's Make Music Pasadena concert at Levitt Pavilion Pasadena, underscore his continued relevance in these unpredictable times, are the latest high points Raspin's unique style allows him to be right at home anywhere, from the smallest intimate theater to an energetic blues club. Raspin was the opening musical performance for author Marianne Williamson, and has been described as “a music guru... who makes us think,” by the Life Changes Network BBS. His fans are mesmerized when they attend his live shows and absorb his soulful music into their hearts and minds.

In early June, I attended the NAMM Show in Anaheim CA. Starting out can be hard. Steve was sitting at a podcasting panel when the lady sitting next to him looked over and asked “do you understand any of this?” It turns out the lady sitting next to Steve has been on PBS and NPR with her course, Learn to Play Guitar in a Day! Marlene Hutchinson is a teacher at heart, and was at one time an elementary school teacher. She didn't actually learn to play guitar until she was an adult. As a child she played piano and clarinet, but she says that when she found the guitar “it was like I found my cocoon, my home.” In this episode Marlene and Steve talk about learning how to podcast, practicing (Marlene loved it, Steve hated it), “the beginner's mind” and how picking up a new instrument gives you a whole new way to look at music. We also touch on what makes a good teacher, sound-healing, how music affects your brain, writing songs just for fun, children's music and explore the entrepreneurial journey that Marlene took to get her workshop on PBS. Steve helped Marlene launch the Tips For Guitar Playing Success podcast, which now has over 35,000 downloads since its release on April 9, 2020. The president and CEO of NAMM, the National Association of Music Merchants, which is a global not-for-profit trade association representing more than ten thousand manufacturers and retailers of musical instruments, professional sound, and live event production products. Their massive annual trade show is coming up at the beginning of June in Anaheim, the proceeds from which they reinvest into grants, scholarships, scientific research, industry promotions, and public and government relations programs. Well-versed across the business, he is also a musician himself and was a touring manager and even an installer.
If you're a musician of any caliber that's been around for more than a few years, then you know what the annual NAMM Show is. NAMM which is the acronym for the National Association of Music Merchants, which was founded in 1901. Each year the NAMM Show hosts literally the largest display of musical instruments, professional sound reinforcement equipment, and studio gear. In 2020, 116,000 people attended the annual event held in Anaheim California, known as Winter NAMM. Its sister show called “Summer NAMM” is held each year in Nashville TN. However in 2021, with Covid in full swing, both the Anaheim, along with the Nashville Trade Shows were canceled due to the pandemic. Things started to get back on track in 2021 with a scaled down version of Summer NAMM taking place in Nashville, although the Anaheim show continued to be on hiatus… until this year. 2022 will see for the first time in history the Winter NAMM Show taking place on June 3rd thru the 5th. We talk with Joe Lamond, who is the President and CEO of NAMM, as he shares the following: How he got to his position starting out initially as the drummer with recording artist Tommy Tutone, and also as the tour manager with Todd Rundgren Why the show is now being held in June, along with the move planned for April for 2023, eventually returning to January in 2024 How the show is a resource for prosumers as well as professional musicians, creators, producers, songwriters Joe also shares some memories along the way during his tenure at NAMM, including one Saturday morning conversation with Ray Charles on a golf cart while attending the show. Joe Lamond is the president and CEO of NAMM, the National Association of Music Merchants, a global not-for-profit 501(c)(6) trade association representing more than 10,000 manufacturers and retailers of musical instruments, professional sound, and live event production products. The association's mission is to strengthen the music products industry and promote the pleasures and benefits of making music. Since 2001, Lamond has led the talented team at NAMM to achieve this mission through what the association calls its “Circle of Benefits” business model, reinvesting the proceeds of its successful trade shows into grants, scholarships, scientific research, industry promotions, and public and government relations programs. These efforts have contributed to increased support for music education in our schools and greater awareness around the world of the benefits of active music making for people of all ages. This week Nick Averwater continues his conversation with Joe Lamond, President and CEO of NAMM, The National Association of Music Merchants. They'll be talking about the technological advances that have happened as a result of the pandemic, the work NAMM does at the national level to strengthen music programs at the local level, and more. The conversation was recorded November 15, 2021 and is broken up in to two episodes. This is part two.
After no in-person gatherings last summer, 2020, or this past January, there certainly has to be some curiosity as to what things look like on the other side of a worldwide pandemic that kept people around the globe locked inside, including musicians who suddenly had no gigs, no venues to go to, and certainly a monumental challenge of "can I continue to sustain a career in this industry." Not to mention, with so many businesses impacted by what we all went through, how did they alter their operations to keep going. In this special episode that features audio recorded on-location at the Summer NAMM Show in Nashville just under two weeks ago, views are presented on the state of the music recording industry, including insights from Joe Lamond, the President and CEO of the National Association of Music Merchants as well as guests that he welcomed on-stage during the opening session, representing manufacturers, merchants, etc., and you'll hear from an artist who gave his perspective on coming through the pandemic.

Music is such an important part of our lives. It brings us joy, makes us feel good, and is just a wonderful way to celebrate life. I’m very passionate about the topic of music education for young people and being in school band. This is why I’m happy to be talking with Mary Luehrsen from the National Association for Music Merchants or NAMM. The NAMM Foundation is a supporting organization of NAMM, a 119 year old music products trade association. The NAMM Foundation is funded by NAMM members through trade association activities and private donations. Mary is the Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations for NAMM and the Executive Director of the NAMM Foundation. The NAMM Foundation is about advancing music programs in school and across life. They support scientific research, philanthropic giving, public service programs, and are a great resource for people wanting to help further public music programs. Mary is also the host of the “Talking Up Music Education” podcast. She talks with artist advocates, teachers, parents, students, and business and community leaders about what they are doing to create music learning opportunities. According to Mary, this podcast is about inspiring people to support music programs. Mary’s passion for music education shines through as she shares what NAMM and the NAMM Foundation are. She also talks a little bit about The NAMM Show and how this event helps support furthering music and music education. We talk about the importance of music education, how Mary uses her podcast to build awareness, and what you can do to help music education in your local community. We also talk about being relentlessly positive, networking with school leaders and board members, the importance of music research in promoting music education, and how anyone can help through volunteer efforts. Show Notes: [04:34] NAMM is the National Association for Music Merchants. It's a 119 year old music products trade association. It started in 1901, when the world was so different. [05:16] NAMM has been carrying the flag, emblems and the torch of the value and importance of music making and music learning since 1901. [05:29] The global music products industry includes musical instruments, pro audio event technology, and all of the infrastructure and technology for large stadium concerts. All of the things for sound enhancement of the industry come together globally. [06:10] We had 129 countries represented at the NAMM Show in Southern California. [07:18] NAMM has also sponsored music brain research and the impact of having children study music early in life. [08:03] Music education is at the heart of the NAMM Foundation. [08:29] Their industry unites around the trade show experience. Because NAMM is a non-profit they can funnel resources into policy and advocacy. [08:53] They also lobby in DC for federal legislation. [09:08] They also build advocacy networks for education. This activity is fueled through sponsored research. [09:35] The foundation is the consumer outreach entity for the mission and vision. [10:14] The NAMM Foundation wants to be the engine of promoting music education. [10:55] There's 14,000 school districts in America and about 50 million children in public school everyday. Mary wants resources to support public music education for all of these children. [11:34] Participation and opportunity are never as good as they would like it to be. A social impact movement needs to be pressing continually for the benefit of the children and young people. [17:05] Music is a powerful way to get people together to embrace a common cause. [18:08] The podcast is almost up to 100 episodes. [19:28] The podcast team has worked really hard with building content and helping to form the advocacy portfolio. They have a schedule consistent with their mission. People always like to see new podcasts. Mary is able to record at home with a recorder and a good microphone. [21:30] They produce shows once or twice a month, and do live events from the NAMM Show. [21:58] They also promote the shows as actively as they can. [24:24] They have a pretty good download rate, the impact of the show is something that they are leaving to faith. The show may be having an impact because Mary was asked for her autograph. [25:39] The podcast is mainly about inspiration. [26:49] School music programs are frequently underfunded. [28:12] Being supportive of music teachers and programs can be helpful. [30:00] They are starting a relentlessly positive advocacy effort. Part of that effort is saying thank you. [33:43] When it comes to funding, there are levers to pull. We just need to be a positive part of the conversation with our school leaders. [35:36] Darrell wishes that everybody can experience how awesome being in band is. [38:57] School administrators want the music programs, they just need to know that they have support. [39:29] When Mary is walking she listens to NPR or has quiet time. You might know J. Dash as the man who wrote and performed the double platinum song “WOP,” but that hardly scratches the surface. J. is a musician, composer, and producer who is also a great advocate for arts education. He works with schools in his hometown city of Jacksonville, Florida, and his current town of Austin, Texas. And J is a longtime volunteer with the National Association of Music Merchants' Foundation, or NAAM, making yearly trips to Congress to lobby for more Title IV funds and working with students trying to break into the music industry. Even though he is best-known in the hip hop world, J. Dash is also a big fan of jazz and blues (he used to play in a blues band). And he also has begun to score films and television shows. Have I mentioned he has a parallel career as a computer scientist? What sparks his creativity and how does he juggle all the aspects of his careers? Listen to the podcast and find out…..
Peavey was founded in the 60's based on a very simple need... "we need gear for our band". From there, Hartley went on to create a massive empire of not only guitar amplifiers, but sound equipment, great guitars, an amplifier for one of the greatest guitarists ever born (the 5150 for EVH) and along the way, even some keyboards and drums! Hartley believes in building great product at an affordable price, and has done that longer than almost anyone in the industry, and although he's 77 years old, along with his team, he continues to do it today! Hartley opens up about many of the problems that plague the musical instrument business, issues with NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants), the Dealer / Manufacturer relationship, and even some of his own competitors. This is one for the ages!

About the Episode: A lot of new products are announced at trade shows and other events, such as CES for consumer electronics, International Builders Show for construction materials, and the National Association of Music Merchants for all things musical. For many product people, participating in their industry trade show each year is one of the most important things they do. They quickly capture interest and generate opportunities. Consequently, they have knowledge and experience Everyday Innovators should have as well. Which is why I spoke with one of the handfuls of people who large brands trust to announce their products at trade shows. She is Amy McWhirter, corporate event host, emcee, and trade show presenter. My first trip to The NAMM Show was, in a word, overwhelming! There was a lot to see and, I don't think I could've visited every booth I wanted to if my life depended on it. Still, it was a very exciting time for me to witness the hustle and bustle of this iconic show. NAMM is an annual event, described as “The World's largest trade-only event for the music products, pro audio, and event tech industry.” ⚠️ Order (or pre-order) the stuff you hear in today's podcast: https://passionatedj.com/hookup/namm NAMM stands for the “National Association of Music Merchants”, and was founded in 1901. It's a business show which caters to dealers and distributors, with the main draw being product exhibits where manufacturers show off their latest in music products and technology. Of course, only a very small percentage of the NAMM displays are DJ-related, but it was still pretty difficult to cover all the bases. Ultimately, I decided to focus on a few key items that I thought would be most important to our Passionate DJ audience, and cover those well (going deep rather than wide). So, I got on a plane from Ohio, where there was snow and ice on the ground, flew across the entire country… over the snow-covered plains and beautiful Rocky Mountains, and many hours later I was enjoying the sunny low-70s weather of the west coast... in January. And it was glorious. Anaheim was beautiful and the convention center is located almost on top of Disney Land. The walk to-and-from the show was a sea of convention badges and mouse ears. Inside the convention center, I barely knew what to do. You can go in any direction, up any escalator, and there will be another part of NAMM there just waiting to be explored. Here's what we will mostly focus on today: • Denon Prime 4 • Akai Force • Rane Twelve & Seventy-Two • Reloop Elite • Technics SL-1200mk7 vs. RP8000mk2 • Phase DVS • Traktor DJ 2 Gemini also showed off their all-in-one unit called the SDJ-4000. It seemed to have decent build quality, uses Gemini's own software, and is essentially a cheaper alternative to the Prime 4 or the Pioneer XDJ-RR. Speaking of Pioneer, while their entire DJ lineup was well represented at the show… they didn't really have anything new on display. Besides all the new Traktor news, Native Instruments also released a new three-octave keyboard called the M32, which is compatible with their Komplete Kontrol plugin and contains transport controls, touchstrips, and so on to control your studio software. NI also released the Audio 1 and Audio 2 sound cards, for very basic connections for those needing inputs on stage. ⚠️ Order (or pre-order) the stuff you hear in today's podcast: https://passionatedj.com/hookup/namm
Ludwig Drums is celebrating its 110th anniversary in 2019 and they have agreed to give The Drum Shuffle listeners a sneak preview of what they will be showing off at the NAMM show this year. The National Association of Music Merchants winter show, held each year in Anaheim, is the largest gathering of instrument manufacturers to show off what is new for the year. Ludwig's 110th anniversary means that they will be offering some outstanding new items that pay homage to their illustrious past while innovating within the drum industry. On episode 053, Jamie is joined by Uli Salazar and Josh Touchton from Ludwig to tell the world what Ludwig is rolling out at NAMM to celebrate a major milestone for the company. If you love drums, you do not want to miss this episode from perhaps the most-respected name in American drum manufacturing. We get details on some ultra-exclusive and highly-collectable drums that are sure to be gone in mere moments after the gates open. We were absolutely honored to have Ludwig share this sneak preview with The Drum Shuffle.
It's time for another NAMM show! This weekend, manufacturers from around the world will gather in Los Angeles to showcase their latest gear. It's one of the most exciting times of the year for music makers. Perhaps there will be the announcement of that magic piece of gear that will finally enable you to release all that music locked up inside you... The truth is, you probably already have everything you need to make that music. And further more, much of what you have likely sits in your studio gathering dust, never having reached its full potential. Unfortunately, us artists are extremely vulnerable to and new advances in technology and the clever marketing that accompanies it. In this episode, I try to offer some ideas and thoughts on how we can fight the inevitable gear lust NAMM brings us. Stay strong and fight off the NAMM gear lust! Typically on Growin' Up Rock, we are all about the music and the artists who create it, but in this episode we take our show on the road and head to Nashville for Summer NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) industry event to learn more about what's happening in the business of music. At the show, we have quick chats with producer/engineer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Halestorm, Foo Fighters) and Living Colour bassist Doug Wimbish. Then marketing manager Matt Brown at EVH guitars gives us the story behind Eddie Van Halen's Eruption '78 series guitar packages. We run into Decibel Geek Alumni, Toddzilla and attend concerts with Poison, Cheap Trick, Pop Evil, and Thee Rock n Roll Residency while hanging out with our friends at The Decibel Geek. The NAMM show (National Association of Music Merchants) happens twice a year and isn't open to the public. The expo area showcases the latest tools and instruments on the market so that merchants can place their orders to get the stuff in their stores for musicians to purchase. So while the event is restricted to music industry insiders, the bonus of this is that often there are artist walking around taking a look at the latest products or demoing equipment. On Thursday, May 24 from 9-10pm EST, we're talking about the real American Idols—extraordinary people who make contributions to music and performance. We'll be joined by Michael Masely, an unusual street musician from Berkeley, CA, who has influenced everyone from the common man to famous musicians for the past 25 years with his world renowned "bowhammers" technique on his cymbalom. Michael is the subject of a new documentary, Art Officially Favored, written and directed by Martin Yernazian, who will also be our guest. In the second half-hour: Colin Huggins, who bills himself as "The Crazy Piano Guy". Colin actually wheels his piano all over the city, bringing music directly to the people of the Big Apple. And last (but not least) we have Mary Luehrsen of NAMM, the National Association of Music Merchants. NAMM strives to promote the pleasures and benefits of making music. Mary will discuss the benefits of music education on growing minds and how budgets cuts are devastating music programs in schools across the nation. She'll also highlight those schools across the nation that have made valuable contributions to arts education as part of the Best Communities for Music Education annual survey.
The National Association of Music Merchants, or NAMM, as most people in the industry refer to it, is helping keep music education alive in schools. At a recent press conference, The NAMM Foundation donated 10-thousand dollars to the W.O. Smith School of Music, which provides very low cost music lessons to underprivileged children. Former governor Mike Huckabee and Aaron Tippin were also on hand to talk about a new project to help benefit music education for children across America.
Amidst the ruckus of today's news and our busy lives, we rarely stop to smell the roses or to listen to sweet music. Today's guests, Musica Angelica manager Laura Spino, KUSC Classical Host Charles Andrews, and National Association of Music Merchants' Scott Robertson, illuminate the importance of keeping music alive, in our schools and in our hearts.
