To bring salvation to the world, Yahweh has prepared a Servant who is chosen, righteous and compassionate. God's Servant will bring freedom and light to a world of sinners.

Isaiah 53:1-6   New International Version - UK (NIVUK)   53 Who has believed our message     and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,     and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,     nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by mankind,     a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces     he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. 4 Surely he took up our pain     and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God,     stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,     he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him,     and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,     each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him     the iniquity of us all.

Or to which of my creditors     did I sell you? Because of your sins you were sold;     because of your transgressions your mother was sent away. 2 When I came, why was there no one?     When I called, why was there no one to answer? Was my arm too short to deliver you?     Do I lack the strength to rescue you? I will also make you a light for the Gentiles,     that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.’ 7 This is what the Lord says –     the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel – to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation,     to the servant of rulers: ‘Kings will see you and stand up,     princes will see and bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful,     the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.’ Restoration of Israel 8 This is what the Lord says: ‘In the time of my favour I will answer you,     and in the day of salvation I will help you; I will keep you and will make you     to be a covenant for the people, to restore the land     and to reassign its desolate inheritances, 9 to say to the captives, “Come out,”     and to those in darkness, “Be free!” ‘They will feed beside the roads     and find pasture on every barren hill. 10 They will neither hunger nor thirst,     nor will the desert heat or the sun beat down on them. This episode is from 1 Thessalonians 4:7, 1 Timothy 1:9-10, Isaiah 42:6, and Matthew 22:14. We all are servants with important work to do. Every work that is of the gospel or serves a need is valuable. We all can share the gospel with a neighbor. God invites us to do His work in the world, whether the task is great or small. Lord, help me have a servant's heart--a heart like Jesus!

As God's people we are given a unique perspective on our government and a unique role in participating in government.

MESSIANIC PROPHECY: GOD’S SERVANT Prophecy: Here is My servant, whom I uphold, My chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on Him And He will bring justice to the nations. Isaiah 42:1 Fulfillment: While [Peter] was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is My Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased. Listen to Him!” Matthew 17:5 Thought: On the mountain of Transfiguration, God tells Peter, James and John that Jesus is His Son, His chosen servant, with whom He is well pleased. He is the one to whom we should listen. He is God’s servant who didn’t even consider equality with God something to be grasped but made Himself a servant. He became obedient to God unto death. A death for you so that you might live forever with Him. Amen.

Michael Gowens' 8/9/2020 sermon looks at Paul's arrival in Corinth, as recorded in Acts 18:1-11. Gowens traces the reasons Paul was discouraged and fearful, and the wonderful ways that God encouraged His faithful servant.
