"We try to take sustainability to every aspect of what we do, because when you build a company, you have impact." —Karen Behnke In this episode of Essential Ingredients, Justine sits down with Karen Behnke, a serial wellness entrepreneur and a true pioneer in the clean beauty movement long before it became mainstream. From co-launching Goop Beauty with Gwyneth Paltrow to being recognized by Goldman Sachs as one of the most innovative entrepreneurs, Karen's journey is anything but ordinary. But this conversation goes deeper than accolades. Karen shares the moment everything shifted—when she realized that despite her background in wellness, she had never questioned what she was putting on her skin. That realization sparked a mission to challenge the beauty industry and rethink how products are made, sourced, and experienced. You'll hear how her work now blends organic farming, biotech innovation, and sustainability, including growing rare grapes on her own certified organic vineyard and developing plant-based exosome technology. It's a powerful look at how beauty, health, and the planet are more connected than most of us realize. This episode is for anyone curious about what's really in their skincare—and what it means to choose better. In this episode, we cover: • The turning point that changed Karen's view on the beauty industry • Why clean beauty is about more than just ingredients • The connection between farming, skincare, and environmental impact • How innovation is shaping the future of beauty • What consumers should start paying attention to today • If you've ever wondered what you're really putting on your skin, this conversation will shift the way you think.

What does a healthy relationship actually look like, and who gets to decide? This week, Amanda is joined by relationship expert Dr. Sara Nasserzadeh (@dr.saranasserzadeh) to overthink "healthy" relationships. Together, they unpack why “healthy” can feel impossible to define, and why a more useful question might be: Does this relationship leave you feeling fulfilled? They explore how many people waste energy trying to fix the wrong things, and Sara breaks down the six ingredients she believes help relationships thrive. From situationships that feel surprisingly safe to whether healthy couples are “boring,” this episode is a grounded spiral about connection, boundaries, and giving yourself permission to believe you deserve the kind of love that feels steady. What I suspect is true for you is what I'm hearing from a lot of my clients – there's just too much noise in the world. And more and more, we want to be able to focus on the essentials of what's going to work. When we're talking advocacy, there are two essential ingredients. If you don't have those two fully dialed in, your results are going to be disappointing. You'll keep finding yourself in that place where the decisionmaker doesn't fully get what you do. And because they don't fully get what you do, and don't understand the complexity of the problem you solve, they also can't correctly value the worth of the work that you do and the transformational outcomes you create in the lives of the people you serve. So we've gotta get them to get it. That's the bottom line. Those two critical ingredients for making that happen? If either one of them is not fully dialed in, chances are they're still not going to get it. I want to help you get those two critical ingredients dialed in and working for you. To get the results you want every time you engage a decision maker. In this episode, I'm sharing:· The three reasons behind decisionmakers not “getting it” about the value of your workThe top three things you need to do with your messaging to make sure decisionmakers do “get it”Why persuasion almost never worksThe key element Nonprofits often leave out of their messaging, that is costing them a ton of influence with decisionmakersThe five core principles of successful engagementThe multiplier effect of learning a full set of messaging and engagement skillsWhy the techniques that feel most uncomfortable are the ones you should work hardest to master Ready to take your messaging and engagement skills to the next level? Ambi Parameswaran discusses the four essential ingredients for marketing success, comparing it to mixology. Marketing success is like mixology, requiring a careful blend of essential ingredients.Branding isn't reserved for companies with massive ad budgets. As Ambi Parameswaran says: “Whether you like it or not, you are a brand.”A Bhopal spice maker thought branding was “too expensive.” The fix? • Pick the name customers already use for you • Put it boldly on packaging (no extra cost) • Focus on your top-selling product • Test with local posters before expandingBalaji Wafers started the same way — one cinema in Gujarat, expanding town by town. For a kid toy startup, the playbook changed. They sold B2B kits to schools while targeting mothers online through “mom bloggers.” Their pivot to B2C delivered faster returns.B2B players like Thermax learned that branding matters even for industrial boilers. Independent research revealed customers rated them nearly as high as L&T.Non-negotiables before launch: • Know your customer vividly • Define your brand's job • Set guardrails to avoid trend-chasing chaosAI now plays a key role — Nestlé even mandates AI in brand presentations. But overpersonalization can backfire, as Tesco's infamous pregnancy-targeting case proved. The myths that branding is expensive, complicated, or slow to pay off are just that — myths. Done right, it starts delivering from day one.Ambi Parameswaran is a brand coach and founder, brand-building.com, a brand advisory. Ambi has spent his forty-year career in corporate India working across diverse sectors, such as pharmaceuticals/consumer products (Boots Company), media (UDI Yellow Pages) and advertising (Rediffusion). He spent over twenty-five years with FCB Ulka Advertising, helping transform a struggling ad agency into one of the top five marketing communications groups. Ambi is a guest faculty at IIM Calcutta, IIM Ahmedabad, MICA and an Adjunct Professor of Marketing at SPJIMR Mumbai.Jagged with Jasravee is facilitated by Jasravee Kaur Chandra.
