Party Favorz is back with volume 2 of the Ultimate Gay Anthems & Pride Classics and the gay just keeps getting gayer. To be honest, I only had an outline in my mind about what I wanted to achieve with this 'ultimate' gay anthems series. It wasn't until I started putting it together that I realize just how difficult it was going to be. In most cases, I'm trying to stick with the original versions but in other instances — I'm finding it better to go with more current remixes of the same track to keep the pace and overall flow tight. This becomes more evident once volume 3 drops later this week. No need to worry because these updated remixes stay true to the original. Because of the diverse styles included here, I found that key mixing only works for some songs but the need to change direction becomes necessary so as not to have the same style used for long stretches. That's where matching the percussive elements of each song come into play even when the styles are different. There is no software for that and it's just something I learned to do a long time ago when I either got stuck or needed to change the energy of the mix. Equally, I find myself having to re-edit many of the overly ambitious remixes that have extended drops that take you nowhere. That only happened twice in this set but considerably more in the upcoming volumes. However, I did leave 'Un-break My Heart' by Toni Braxton alone this time. This is the first Hex Hector remix that really sparked his star (even if it was done with Soul Solution) but it was clear he hadn't totally worked out his drop technique yet. Editing this song is easy but since I've never let it run all the way through before — I thought this would be the time to leave it in its full glory because it's not overly long. Any of you following the Roe v Wade issue currently exploding in the United States know that I get overly heated on political issues. After the draft opinion by SCOTUS was leaked in advance of its official release in late June — I've become inconsolable — and you should be too. What I see coming down the pipeline affects everyone — not just women. I'll have more to say about it likely at the end of all these Pride mixes because I want to be as clear and precise as to the fallout from this decision and how serious we should all be taking this. I've taken some liberty in the track selection like "Touch Me In the Morning" by Diana Ross was reworked in the early millennium but was originally re-recorded in 1985 by Lydia Steinman. "Your Song" by Elton John (which closes this set out) was never re-recorded (to my knowledge) but re-done by Almighty with Elton re-singing the vocals in the early millennium as well. The same goes with Olivia Newton-John's "I Honestly Love You." Regardless, these tracks fit in nicely with the overall theme and feel of these sets as if they were true to the period. The intro to this set was the hardest thing I've encountered so far. Using the original version of Divine's "Shoot Your Shot" and mashing with Male 2 Male's "Male Stripper" wasn't working so I had to drop it into another software to get it to pan out. If the beats seem slightly off, it's because the original mixes are not up to par with today's technology. Regardless, I thought it came out well. I'm guessing there are about two more of these sets, which I'll post later this next week. That should be followed by a couple of Diva Hall of Fame re-entries that need to be refreshed before getting back into new Dance-Club, Circuit Tribal House, Funky House, and Underground House set later this month. Happy Friday everybody! Party Favorz is back with a multi-volume set of Hi-NRG gay anthems from the 80's and 90's that have been reinvigorated for today's dancefloors. The original concept was to create a Hi-NRG compilation of dance tracks from the 1980s. After pouring through most of them, I came to the conclusion that a lot of these just didn't meet the requirements for today's music delivery methods (i.e., the sound quality was thin). Sure they sounded great on the dancefloor back in the day, but I just wasn't feeling it. Not to mention, the amount of work involved trying to bring these up to speed was not a task I was up to at the moment. Fortunately, the much beloved Almighty Records has taken a good chunk of these classics re-worked them for our modern day listening apparatus. Combine that with 7th Heaven, Soulshaker, Bassmonkeys, and Wideboys amongst many others and this entire set started pulling together nicely. I did have to extend the track selection to the 1990s as well to make it work but what the hell...why not? It just adds to the overall fun of these sets. Yes, I  could have waited until June to release these but the future of Party Favorz is uncertain, so why wait? Additionally, there is some crossover from previous efforts but that wasn't preventable if I truly wanted to represent the genre. Besides, there is a slew of gems that have never made it onto any of my previous compilations, so I think it'll be worth it. So get ready to pump, pump, PUMP IT UP! The hardest part involved in making these sets is tracking down the songs; especially songs whose title is flip-opposite of what you would expect. I've been playing around with this new mashup software I recently purchased and am thinking about taking every single one of these songs and making one Big Gay Pride Anthem Mix for next year. It's that time of year again here in Dallas. In anticipation, I wanted to make the first mix I have ever done specifically for Pride. Normally with my mixes, I like to keep all the most as recent as possible. In my last post, I asked if anyone had some older mixes that I long ago lost due to a hard drive crash. I want to give a HUGE shoutout to Dean and Marshall for making it happen. The BPM Edition 2009 v5, which was originally 4 sets has been combined into two and is now available for the first time in years. Five sets of the BPM Edition 2009 v1 and the 2 set Funky Edition 2008 v1 and v2 have now been combined into one are also available. I had a problem with the Year-end Edition 2007: Deep & Funky because in both cases they had split the tracks up and their track listing wasn't matching up with what was originally posted. Along with 1999, 2007 is one of my all-time favorite years of house music. Folks like Freemasons, Moto Blanco, Soulseekers, 7th Heaven, Bassmonkeys, Wideboys and DJ Meme were all on the cusp of becoming DJ and production superstars. So, I went back and pulled ALL of the original tracks and re-worked the entire 3 volume set and combined it into two. I dropped a couple of songs for coherence, changed a couple of the original versions and added few more that were never included (but should have been). Basically, this is the same set, only better. It's been remastered according to iTunes standards and frankly is mind-numbingly fantastic! So much so, I thought it would be a shame to not promote it front and center on the site. Hell, I even re-created the original artwork to go along with it, with some minor changes. I've got part two going up tomorrow before officially kicking summer 2017 off with the long overdue Pool Party (which is complete and kicks some serious funky ass). So let's go back 10 years from when Party Favorz officially launched on the web with the Deep & Funky Year-end edition and party like it's 2007. ENJOY!
