Summer in The Psalms | Week 7: What's Love Got To Do With It? | John Morgan
The most important fruit of all the Fruit of the Spirit is love. This is because it is the revelation of the love of God for you that releases all the other supernatural fruit.
In our second episode on exploring love as a basis for organizing and solidarity, we interview Pregs Govender (South Africa) and Srilatha Batliwala (India) – both globally well-known feminist activists and authors. Pregs aligns love with the inherent dignity of human beings and speaks eloquently of how oppressive systems, from apartheid in South Africa to Israel's genocide against the Palestinian people, use power to eradicate our humanity. What can we do about it? Srilatha offers brilliant insights about how we need to reconstruct our narratives to build inclusive societies and intentional alliances across movements. Both agree that our greatest defeat is when we are made to feel hopeless and helpless. They encourage each one of us to nurture our own sense of love, keep enacting it, build collective power with love and replenish ourselves through the earth's energy. As Pregs says, “Lie on the ground, look at the sky, get into water and see ourselves as part of nature. We are not separate. Find pathways from apathy to empathy, how to break and end silences about the oppressive forces, systems, narratives, how to recenter every single moment, every single day when you are being shattered.” Join us in this moving and inspiring conversation.

For Sunday, read 1 Corinthians 13, a famous chapter among many believers and non-believers alike - well known and resonates whole. How important is love when it comes to the use of any gift God has given us, whether a 'spiritual' gift or otherwise? What is the character and essence of love? Where do we find it? All kinds of questions arise, yet in 1st Corinthians 13, we find many answers!
Torah, or “the Law,” often raises questions about its connection to love. Rabbi Steve Berkson begins this teaching series with a song reference, What's Love Got to Do With It, to emphasize his determination to reveal how the giving of the Torah by our Creator and our unwavering obedience to it are intrinsically linked to love. While we may have previously understood love in a certain way, Rabbi Berkson delves into the diverse aspects of love as depicted in our scriptures. Rabbi Berkson examines how the English translation of the Bible often misleads us in using the word “love.” He explores how we can comprehend 'love' from the teachings of the New Testament. Rabbi Berkson begins by examining Matthew chapter 22, where Yeshua highlights the two primary relationships: our connection with the Creator and our relationship with each other. He questions those who argue that the Law/Torah is obsolete, as their argument lacks the means to fulfill the two great commandments. This teaching series promises to provide valuable insights that will support your spiritual growth as you journey toward the Kingdom of Elohim, becoming the kind of person He desires to live with forever. In the new season of the Gender at Work podcast – What's Love Got to Do With It? – we ask the question - can love in the vision of Audrey Lord, bell hooks, Martin Luther King, Desmond Tutu, Mahatma Gandhi and so many social justice leaders worldwide, help us in shifting systems of oppression. How does social justice action from the basis of love help us to transform ourselves while also eliminating the profound cruelty and manipulation we see all around us? And how are women and gender equality leaders incorporating these questions and values into their practice? We also explore ideas and practical solutions that are based on love, on connection, coexistence, and understanding. Our opening episode features Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, the Deputy Executive Director of UN Women. Nyaradzayi, a Zimbabwean national and lawyer, who has a long history of activism on issues of women's rights and gender equality. She is the founder and former executive director of the Rosario Memorial Trust in Zimbabwe and prior to that served as the General Secretary of the YWCA. Nyaradzayi was appointed the first African Union Goodwill Ambassador on Ending Child Marriage. What is love? For Nyaradzayi it means “saying no to discrimination”. She says that “we need a world that respects diversities” and that “if we have love, we have courage”. We are inspired by the brave and eloquent feminist warrior who draws on her vast experience to lead with justice from the halls of the UN to rural communities and organizations around the world and who explains how to organize with love.

Yes! You are in. A lot of hate out there. How about you? Do you love or hate more? Christians, this play of the day will be a big challenge for some of you? Here you go...Thank you Marcus Rogers for that opening hook, Best Life. Please support, buy, subscribe his music. I do via Apple. Thank you Pastor Rick Warren for another/countless play of the day. You can hear more of that listen at Daily Hope, pastorrick.com. That one was published on the 1st of May 2025, entitled. "You've Got to get Connected, Part 2"Alright you. Are you a lover or a hater? If you are not a Christian, you are off the hook. If you claim Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are obligated to love. In fact, I loved the simplicity of that Play of the Day. We are not allowed to hate people. We may hate their actions/flaws. Does everyone approve of everything you do or say? Are you married? You don't even need to be married to answer that question. Of course not, you are flawed, Rom 3:23. So are your most annoying people. So do you pray for or curse them? You don't have to take my words for it. Nor even Pastor Rick's. What about your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ's?“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matt. 5:44)Your heavenly Father will forgive you if you forgive those who sin against you; but if you refuse to forgive them, he will not forgive you. Matt 6:14Doesn't mean you need to be besties with those that hurt you. Not at all. Trust must be earned...and some never will. It does mean you let God do what he does best, justice. On this broken planet or after. You give that hurt to your Heavenly Father. Say Abba, this is between you and that person that hurt me now. I'm tired of carrying that hurt around like a ball and chain. My brother-in-law Chad, whom I love very much, is an atheist. He gets quite wrapped up in politics and likes to point out hypocrisy on just one side. He does have valid points at times. He shares something about how a book hasn't killed anybody but we will ban books and not guns. After thought and prayer, I replied, if we all followed Jesus Christ's words in a book called the Bible, there would be no wars, no racism, no hate and no definitely no mass shootings. Yet there are many that want to ban that very book (far left and far right depending on what sect). So what does Love got to do with it? EVERYTHINGMatthew 22:36-40New International Version36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

1 Corinthians 13
We have endless songs about it. We have hundreds of movies about it. We have all forms of art expressing it. The “it” is love. Love is not only everywhere, it's arguably the deepest yearning for all people. As disciples, we are called to do one thing more and better than everything else - love! But let's be honest, it feels loaded at times to “love” well and rightly. Join us as we seek to discern what love truly is and how we can go about extending it to others.
WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT? It's Women's History Month, Richies! In honor of that, we have the queen herself, Angela Bassett. She's been setting fire to the silver screen ever since she portrayed Tina Turner in “What's Love Got to Do with It.” But her life - both in front of and behind the camera - has been chock-full of obstacles, disappointments, struggles, and surprises. In this week's episode of Capitalism Hits Home, Dr. Fraad delves into the concept of "Love," coming just a few days after Valentine's Day. She examines how America has undergone a significant revolution in recent history—a transformation in the meanings and practices of love. Love and marriage no longer "go together like a horse and carriage," as Frank Sinatra's 1955 song once claimed. Today, most Americans are single, and the majority of marriages end in separation or divorce. This podcast explores the reasons behind this profound shift.
