This final episode of our series "What's Love Got to Do With It" features Kumi Naidoo and Amitabh Behar. Kumi is a South African human rights and climate justice activist who is currently President of the Fossil fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty initiative and former head of international organizations including Civicus, Greenpeace and Amnesty International. Amitabh is the Executive Director of Oxfam International who has with decades of experience in human rights, economic inequalities, governance accountability, philanthropy, democracy, social justice and building citizen participation. Both are globally known civil society leaders. In this conversation, Kumi and Amitabh reflect on weaving love, solidarity and justice in activism amid rising authoritarianism, polarization, economic inequality and climate crisis. Kumi talks about the need to reframe our messaging to avoid "us versus them" and to build bridges to people beyond existing movements and to avoid pessimism. Amitabh stresses the need to combine love with structural change and justice and to confront patriarchal institutional cultures that undermine internal change. The episode ends with a cautious but hopeful call for bold, systemic rethinking of movement strategy. Please listen in and send us your thoughts!
“Obsession” is about a guy who makes a wish for a girl to love him “more than anyone in the entire world.” What follows is a classic horror movie trope: the girlfriend from hell. One of the movie's tag lines is “be careful who you wish for.” And younger audiences are flocking to see “Obsession,” making it a genuine Gen Z phenomenon. The film's writer-director-editor, Curry Barker, is also part of that generation. The 26-year-old, who had previously been making content for YouTube, is now responsible for a film that has made over $230 million (so far) on a budget of $750,000. Hollywood has taken notice. Barker has been offered an eight-figure deal for his next movie, sight unseen. For Wesley Morris, the success of “Obsession” raises a bigger question about relationships today: Is this how the young folks think about love—as something that should appear instantaneously, without effort, but might also ruin their lives? With all this in mind, Wesley invited Angelica Jade Bastién, a pop culture critic with New York Magazine, onto the show to ask, “Are the kids all right?” Subscribe today at nytimes.com/podcasts or on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Analysis The group discussed the movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, focusing on its handling of grief and the character development of Shuri. They analyzed how the film addressed the loss of Chadwick Boseman and explored Shuri's emotional journey, including her encounter with the ancestral plane where she saw Killmonger. The discussion also covered the film's cinematography, underwater scenes, and the character of Namor, including his comic book history and representation in the film. Namor and Atlantean Characters Discussion Andy discussed the character Namor from Marvel comics, explaining his solo nature and conflicts with other heroes like the Hulk and Doctor Strange. He detailed Namor's history with the Phoenix Force, which led to him flooding Wakanda and creating animosity with T'Challa. Andy also covered other Atlantean characters including Namora and Atuma, noting that Marvel made Namor's home city Tl'Chok rather than Atlantis to avoid competing with DC's Aquaman. The discussion concluded with a brief mention of Riri Williams as a new character in the film. Ironheart Character Development Discussion The group discussed the character Riri Williams/Ironheart from Marvel comics and the related TV series. They compared the character development between the comic origins in 2016 and the TV adaptation, noting how the contemporary setting and diverse writing room made the character more relatable and less problematic than older comic book characters. The discussion also touched on how the Chicago setting in the series helped connect viewers to the story, and they reflected on the character's growth from the TV series to the movie adaptation. Marvel Character Names and Costumes The group discussed character names and costumes in Marvel comics, particularly focusing on Namor and his attire. They noted that while Namor's costume evolved over time to include pants and a vest, it made more sense for him to be semi-naked given his aquatic setting. Tiffany expressed frustration with illogical character names and costumes in comics, suggesting she would like a job at Marvel to review character designs and names. The discussion concluded with Andy providing background on Namor's character development and complex nature as both a ruler and hero. Angela Bassett's X-Men Casting Discussion The group discussed Angela Bassett's performance in the Black Panther film and her potential casting as Storm in the X-Men franchise. They compared Bassett's portrayal to Halle Berry's earlier performance and discussed how Bassett would have been a better fit for the role due to her character's African heritage and background. The conversation also touched on Bassett's other notable roles, including Tina Turner in What's Love Got to Do with It and her performance in Waiting to Exhale.Thriller Drama Casting DiscussionThe group discussed potential casting ideas for a thriller drama featuring Viola Davis and Angela Bassett. Tiffany expressed strong enthusiasm for seeing these actors together in a suspenseful role, recommending that whoever writes the script needs to handle it well to justify casting such powerful performers. The conversation also touched on Viola Davis's acclaimed autobiography and Angela Bassett's recent role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, with the group agreeing that Bassett's performance helped reintroduce audiences to her talent.

What if your first reaction to "my state of mind is the most important thing to me" was... that's a little selfish? That's exactly where Makayla started. In this episode, Brooke sits down with Makayla Wheeldon for an honest, wide-ranging conversation about navigating a demanding career, the realities of wedding planning, and what it actually takes to show up fully in a relationship. As they dig deeper, a new perspective begins to take shape — that being aware of your state of mind isn't selfish at all. It's a form of self-love. And when you love yourself enough to tend to your own mind, you show up differently for the people who matter most. Makayla begins to see that state of mind is the starting place for effective communication, deeper connection, and the kind of love that actually lasts.

Send us Fan Mail- On-Demand Programme Link - https://mailchi.mp/bb2a7b851246/kairos-centreLove me in five ways: (See my Book - The Art of Loving)Most of us operate out of emotional love. Our love is conditional. Loving self comes first. If you do not love yourself, it is not possible to love someone with the high level of love you think you have for them. It is deception to think that we do love our partner, whilst not really able to say that we love our self. Learn to love yourself first. Individual counselling may be necessary to help you on the journey.Learn to love and then learn the art of practising love. Learn it well and then spend a lifetime discipline, maintaining and perfecting it as your love affair. We know that the English word love is much over used. We use it for loving a meal as we do for loving our partner, the pet or ice cream. Using one word in that manner is a recipe for misunderstanding and certainly lacks precision in what we are trying to express. We can compare that to the way the word love is broken down and used in the Greek language. Historically the Greek language used at least five words precisely and quite distinctly to describe the various facets of love.By looking at each of those different word descriptions we can build up the identifying features of all the components that the word love should contain and demonstrate in all healthy, progressive and fulfilling relationships. Those five words for love are Epithumia, Eros, Phileo, Storge and Agape.Every couple's love life should have all five facets of these aspects of love. Each is distinct, but inter-related and overlap. Each reinforces the other. EPITHUMIA: (The sexual love): Epithumia is a strong desire - of any kind. It is a longing for something or someone. It is to set one's heart or desire upon. It has components of coveting and to lust after. It can be a strong, lustful and physical sexual desire. EROS: (Romance): Eros has been corrupted by the English word “erotic”. Eros is the driver for the romance in the relationship. Sometimes sensual, it is the desire and feeling of wanting to be together and yearning to unite.Eros is romantic, passionate and sentimental. It is the driver which causes lovers to write love poetry, love notes and give pet names to each other. It only keeps working as long as there is reciprocation and we can see benefits.STORGE: (Security): Storge is a most valuable and expensive gift. It is a relationship which will always be there for you, despite being rejected by others; a safe place/haven. It is the need (which we all have) to belong or to be a part of a close knit system with people who care, are loyal and sincere. It is a relationship which provides emotional refuge from a world which can be cold, harsh and hard.PHILEO: (Fellowship/Friendship): Phileo is the love one feels for a cherished friend of either sex. This love is conditional and is reactive to what it sees in the other. It is a love which cherishes and has tender affection for the beloved, but always expects a response. AGAPE: (Unconditional): Agape is the fifth of our five loves. At some point in a relationship, we may be tested harshly indeed by a crisis. Perhaps for a longer period than we could have imagined or expected we have tried to love the unlovable. We are starkly face to face with a situation of “for better or for worse”. Unlovable traits show up in the partner. The toll on you has already been great. Agape is the totally unselfish love that has the capacity to give and keep on giving without a reciprSupport the show

It's February so its only right we tap into our insight on love, emotions and your feelings. In this episode, we dive headfirst into the messy, magical, mind-bending world of love — from the sting of heartbreak to the science of intimacy. Why does heartbreak feel physically painful? Why do we crave connection even when it terrifies us? And what did Aristotle really mean when he described the many different forms of love? This isn't just about romance. It's about friendship. Self-love. Family. Passion. Purpose. It's about understanding how love shapes who we are — and how we can love more intentionally. We use Aristotle's 8 forms of love to help figure out what forms of love we do and don't like. Because we know that you can love someone but are you loving them how they need to be loved and the right way.

What the world tells us what love looks like and what Kingdom love looks like couldn't be more opposite. God's love is always pursuing us and ready to receive us with open arms. in this sermon, Ps. Jenny looks at the attributes of love in 1 Corinthians 13 and uses the story of the Prodigal Son to show how that love is a model of the way the Father loves us as Sons and Daughters.

As you have received empathy from Christ, you can show empathy to others and, when you do, you not only build relationship, you become a vessel of God's healing power.
In Galatians 5:22, Paul writes, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love…” Love is listed first because it is foundational. Joy and peace flow from it. When the Spirit produces love in us, it changes how we see people. The First Principle of God's Love: Seeing others through the eyes of love. Our lives are shaped by those who loved us — and those who refused to love us. The way we were loved influences how we love, and God's unconditional is an example of how we are to love others.

Most people don't fall out of love… they fall out of awareness. In Part 2 with Adam Roa (poet, speaker, and coach), we get into what actually makes relationships go numb, why “space” can be healthy, how shame quietly hijacks connection, and why a lot of men learned that opening up comes with a cost. And women, this one matters too. Understanding the male experience doesn't excuse bad behavior, but it explains a lot of what you're seeing. We talk relationship seasons, taking space vs. avoidance, shame as a hidden killer, why men shut down after vulnerability gets used against them, the “boss babe” conversation nobody can have calmly, and how we've started outsourcing relationship decisions to friends… and now AI. This week, I'm joined again by emotional eating expert Tricia Nelson. This time, we explore the intricate connection between emotional eating and romantic relationships. We talk about how emotional responsibility includes becoming aware of the ways food struggles can impact intimacy and communication in relationships. We also discuss how isolation can intensify emotional eating, why connection and honesty are essential to healing, and the underlying reasons food becomes a coping mechanism. Tricia shares practical ways she has helped people shift these deep-rooted patterns, including how processing, expressing, and communicating how we're feeling is essential to changing compulsive eating behaviors. It's an honest conversation about how long-term struggles with food can affect the people in our lives, with practical advice for how to feel and connect with others instead of numb and avoid with food. If we are talking about the feeling and emotion of love, it does have something to do with marriage and family. However, the action and essence of all that love is, has way more to do with our intimate relationships than the feeling of love! Emotions and feelings are ever changing, but true love weathers the emotions and continues to act out of love whether the feeling is present or not. Join Eric and Gena in this episode as they discuss the God kind of love that takes home life to another level!
What has love got to do with it? Love and compassion is what drives most people to a spiritual path, but it is in fact more advanced. If you look at the Lamrim, the packaging of Buddha's teachings, they're in a nice orderly way, according to the capacity of the disciple. I prefer to call it - junior school, high school, and university. Love and compassion are taught in university. That's a big surprise to us. There's the wisdom wing and the compassion wing, a bird needs two wings. The wisdom wing, which is all about you, is like self compassion, self love. Buddha doesn't talk like that, but it's how we talk in the west, it's how you take care of yourself. So of course if you hear about self love, you hear about having a relax and a nice massage, you can do that too, but that's not Buddha's approach. If you don't start working on your mind, then you can never change, you'll never get happy. The Buddha's first teachings - the four noble truths - he's telling us exactly what to do if we want to be happy. Guess what! - it's not to get someone else to make us happy, or to get the nice cake or vacation - but to work on our own mind! That means we have to understand what he means. What he means is that in the mind we have a bunch of neuroses, the voices of ego, attachment, anger, and the rest. Surprisingly to us, they don't come from outside, they're triggered by the outside, but the cause of them is in our own mind. These tendencies are the source of our suffering. So self love for the Buddha is getting rid of these, working on your mind, that's how you get happy. That's how you take care of yourself. Very surprising! Then when you've done that, to the degree that you've done it, is the degree to which you open your eyes and realise we're all in the same boat. So then you're able to understand others, and now you can help them, by giving them love and compassion, kindness and patience. It's very logical. Why is it difficult to have love and compassion for others? If we haven't worked on our own minds, this is the problem, we leap in and make a mess half of the time, because we haven't sorted out our own minds. We haven't identified attachment, we haven't identified the source of our own pain. So we rush out and try to be kind and loving to others and then wonder why things go wrong. Or why you're out there helping others and you feel like you're being abused and misused for being a nice person. Or you help others during difficult times and you get dragged down and depressed by the amount of suffering. So we assume that being kind to others is why we're suffering. No - you are not suffering because you are kind to others, you are suffering because you have attachment. We have to work on the wisdom wing first, really work on our own minds, mind our own business, work on our body, speech, and mind. Buddha's teachings on the four noble truths are addressed to us, this is the inner job, like retreat mode. This is absolutely vital, it's the starting point for practice. On the basis of success at this, you can see others, and now you can begin to be of benefit to others, without making a mess. Questions include - what does His Holiness mean when he says no enemy inside - no enemy outside, compassion for the person who harms another, getting angry at our self, how do we transform love for family into love without attachment, 'good enough dear' by Lama Yeshe, 'this is a pretty cup' is an opinion but is 'this is a cup' also an opinion, sensory and mental consciousness, can a person believe in a creator and also Buddha's teachings, is forgiveness a step on the path or is it just about the I, and techniques to work with strong aversion? Valentine's Day 2024 teaching and Q & A at Tse Chen Ling Center for Tibetan Buddhist Studies in San Francisco.

Encore! Encore! This February Janet, John, (and Pen) wanted to revist the spectacular life and career of this absolute Queen of Rock and Roll... Tina Turner! Born on November 26. 1939 in Brownsville, Tennessee, this star was the youngest of three daughters. Her childhood characterized as frenetic and unstable due to her parents' work and personal lives. By the age of 16, Anna Mae (Tina Turner's birth name) was enamored with the nightclub scene. There she met Ike Turner, who invited her to be a backup vocal for his band after she stole the microphone from him and sang out "You Know I Love You," by B.B. King. By 1960, Anna Mae found her first big break when she stepped in for a missing vocalist on the track, "A Fool in Love." Soon she was rebranded as Tina Turner and continued performing with Ike Turner in their band, Ike & Tina Turner Revue. Unfortunately this stint in stardom came to an end, as Turner's marriage to Ike to a turn for the worst. To keep herself afloat during their separation, Turner continued to sing and perform as a celebrity guest on game shows and sitcoms— one of her happiest times. Turner found her big break into stardom again when she released a cover of Al Greene's "Let's Stay Together." From there, Turner would go onto release multiple sucessful albulms like Private Dancer and What's Love Got to Do with it— in which a single off the latter would garner Turner three grammys! She would also appear in George Miller's Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985), for which she also wrote two hit songs. By 1999, Turner would release her tenth and final solo album, "Twenty Four Seven"— what a life well lived! What does love have to do with your family today? Everything. In this message from Genesis 1-4, we look at God's beautiful design for family. Not just the version we wish we had, but the real one. The one with laughter, conflict, joy, wounds, history, and hope. You will see three simple truths that shape the whole sermon: Jesus created family. Jesus ordered family. Jesus blessed family. We will name what went wrong in the first home. Distrust. Shame. Blame. Hiding. Division. And we will see how those same patterns still show up in homes today. But we will also see the better news. The Gospel does not only forgive sin. Jesus heals shame. Jesus restores blessing. And He brings new life to families that feel tired, strained, or stuck. If your home feels peaceful, this message will strengthen your foundation. If your home feels painful, this message will remind you that Jesus is not done.
Britney Spears has declared she'll never perform in the United States again and Kelly & Sharon unpack what that could really mean. They also discuss Britney's support of her son's musical talent and why she's open to potentially performing with him in the UK and Australia. The conversation continues with Salt-N-Pepa's legal battle over control of their music masters, which didn't go the way they hoped. Kelly & Sharon explain the ruling and discuss why younger artists must fully understand contracts and seek proper legal advice before signing deals that can affect their careers long term. Kelly & Sharon also celebrate Angela Bassett, who will receive a prestigious award from the American Black Film Festival Honors and reflect on why she was such a powerful presence in the 90s - from her iconic arms to her unforgettable portrayal of Tina Turner in What's Love Got to Do with It? Kelly also shares her dream of seeing Angela Bassett, Alfre Woodard, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer together in one film. Plus, Sarah Jessica Parker is honored with the Carol Burnett Award at the Golden Globes, prompting a conversation about her self-awareness, gratitude, and work ethic throughout her career. Also in this episode: • Kelly's life-changing hot water bottle from Ireland (Sharon remains skeptical) • Question of the Week: When do you take down or turn off your outdoor Christmas lights? • Kelly's Trivia • Sharon's 90's Rewind takes you back to 1994 If you love 90s nostalgia, music industry insight, and pop-culture conversation, make sure to follow, rate, and share 90's NOW. Because Jesus if full of grace and truth, so can our communication be. And when we learn to speak the truth in love, it changes everything.

We all have “love issues.” John 13:35 says that love is to be our identifying mark as Christians – not our wisdom or spiritual gifts or activity – but being a loving person is difficult. Jada Edwards has a new book out called A New Way to Love Your Neighbor that she wrote out of a season where she struggled to love well. The Lord revealed to her that she couldn't be the originator of grace for other people. She needed God to reveal His love for her specifically, continually, so she'd be filled up with love to give. Jada and the Perrys explore the definition of agape love in which the person initiating the love determines the value of the one they love. They talk about how Biblical love for others almost always requires decision – deciding to love – instead of affection. And ultimately, love needs wisdom to be effective. We need to slow down, pray, and ask Holy Spirit to guide us in how to love. ...we are not allowed to hate back. Does whiteness make room for love? Does it have the capacity to do so? I think Aileen Wuornos may have been onto something...
