In this episode, Carol and Jeevan talk to UBC alum Carrie Jenkins, a writer and professor of philosophy at UBC, about her research to understand love in all its forms. They discuss the limitations of romantic love, the stigma of singlehood, the realities of non-monogamy, and the social constructs that connect them all.LINKSContact CarolContact JeevanFrom Here ForwardCarrie Jenkins' website Carrie's WritingWhat Love Is and What It Could Be Sad Love: Romance and the Search for MeaningNon-Monogamy and HappinessUninvited : Talking Back To PlatoVictoria Sees It (00:00) - Introduction (03:14) - Western Views on Romantic Love (05:21) - Biological & Social Approaches to the Philosophy of Love (08:53) - Romantic Love, Capitalism, and Power (13:06) - What is Sad Love? EP422: Today I have a returning guest, Sandy Weiner, who is the Chief Love Officer at Last First Date. She's an internationally known TEDx speaker, dating and relationship coach, author, and podcast host, and she recently released a new book, “Love At Last,” featuring 18 inspiring love stories that prove it's never too late to find meaningful relationships. In this episode, Sandy shares her expertise in how she helps individuals overcome emotional hurdles, emphasizing the value of embracing vulnerability and self-awareness, especially after the age of 40, when dating can feel different but also more meaningful. We also touch on the evolving world of dating, and how different it is today, in a tech-driven environment, than when the women of my generation first began dating. Other topics we cover are: - How the pandemic reshaped first dates. - The interesting parallels of the couples in her book that helped them find and flourish in their loving relationships. - Real-life examples that give one hope for finding new love later in life, often when you least expect it. - Strategies for fostering relationship success if you are looking for love and haven't been successful on your own. This episode is a heartwarming and motivating reminder that love and the personal growth gifts that come with it are possible at any stage of life. Sandy wants everyone who desires a partner and is ready to break down emotional barriers, to have hope that love can be found in the most unexpected ways. If you are seeking love for the first time or rediscovering it after divorce or the loss of a partner and are ready to embrace the next romantic chapter of your journey, make sure to tune into this conversation with Sandy. The Big Idea: From scripture, we come to see that love is more than words, feelings, and emotions. Love is action. True love calls for us to do something, and also to refrain from some things. Main Points:1. Love, when truly demonstrated, is not just an emotion expressed to family and close friends. Love is seen the clearest when it is given to those we think don't deserve it and those who don't expect it. 2. When God's love changes us we begin to notice others. We begin to see what God sees. We'll notice the lonely, the hurting, the broken, and the discouraged. We see those who desperately need to be loved.3. So, let's ask, how can I show love today? To whom can I show love? What loving words can I share with someone? What loving acts can I do to show God's love? Who can I serve? Who can I bless with the love of God? Your loving actions might just change their lives.Today's Scripture Verses:John 13:34, Jesus says to his disciples, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”1 John 4:19-21 - “We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.”1 Corinthians 13:4-7 - “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

LESSON 282I Will Not Be Afraid Of Love Today. If I could realize but this today, salvation would be reached for all the world. This the decision not to be insane, and to accept myself as God Himself, my Father and my Source, created me. This the determination not to be asleep in dreams of death, while truth remains forever living in the joy of love. And this the choice to recognize the Self Whom God created as the Son He loves, and Who remains my one Identity.Father, Your Name is Love and so is mine. Such is the truth. And can the truth be changed by merely giving it another name? The name of fear is simply a mistake. Let me not be afraid of truth today.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

This week's guest is the British guitarist Edison Herbert, who plays melodic and soulful groove-based music that will lift your mood. We are featuring his compositions from a couple of his albums and you'll learn about his personal journey in music that has led to his career as a full-time performer. He talked to me about some of his mentors and influences including George Benson, and his perspectives as a Black artist navigating the music scene in the UK. I found him to be warmly engaging and candid and we circled around to topics that impact all of us, such as dealing with self-knowledge, creativity, and the need to be persistent and keep true to what's important to us . I will not be afraid of Love today. If I could realize but this today, salvation would be reached for all the world. This the decision not to be insane, and to accept myself as God Himself, my Father and my Source, created me. This the determination not to be asleep in dreams of death, while truth remains forever living in the joy of love. And this the choice to recognize the Self Whom God created as the Son He loves, and Who remains my one Identity. Father, Your Name is Love and so is mine. Such is the truth. And can the truth be changed by merely giving it another name? The name of fear is simply a mistake. Let me not be afraid of truth today. - Jesus Christ in A Course in Miracles, Lesson 282

In the Episode we discuss the present and how important it is to forget about the troubles of the past. We so often get caught up in the wrongs that people have caused us, we forget how important it is to simply be grateful for being able to breathe, to walk being able to talk. When we continue to dwell on the past, we neglect to understand the lesson that is being taught. Be grateful for the little things and take nothing for granted especially if you are fortunate enough to have love in your life. This love can come from relatives, friends, or acquaintances. Love is such an important foundation for building any relationship and life the song says it makes the world a better place. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dailylifetip/messageSupport the showhttps://chat.openai.com/g/g-8E47AuJfB-life-points-assistanthttps://FaceBook.com/Lifepointswithronda1https://youtube.com/@lifepointswithronda2968https://TikTok.com/@lifepointswithrondahttps://Instagram.com/@lifepointswithrondahttps://Patreon.com/@lifepointswithrondahttps://Lifepointswithronda.com
