Claxton Writers: Arthur Heinemann (Part 1), Carole and Michael Raschella (Part 2) In Little House on the Prairie's “I'll Be Waving as You Drive Away,” Mary Ingalls faces a life-altering diagnosis: scarlet fever's lingering effects are stealing her sight. As Walnut Grove grapples with a measles outbreak and economic collapse driven by a railroad cartel, Mary's world darkens—literally and emotionally. Her initial denial and bitterness give way to despair when she wakes up blind. Sent to a blind school in Iowa, Mary resists help until meeting Adam Kendall, a blind teacher whose tough love sparks her resilience. Through Braille and determination, Mary finds purpose, aspiring to teach at Adam's new school in Winoka. Meanwhile, the Ingalls family confronts financial ruin and decides to relocate, bidding a tearful farewell to Walnut Grove. This Emmy-nominated two-parter, blending heartbreak with hope, showcases Mary's transformation and the family's unyielding spirit, proving that even in darkness, light can be found. Some Quotes I Chose “Why can't I just sit here?” – Mary “Pitying yourself won't help.” – Adam “I wonder how much of our lives are spent worrying about things that just don't mean anything.” – Charles “God must have chosen Mary for some very special purpose.” – Reverend Alden “It's a huge, dark place filled with hidden obstacles.” – Mary The opening song “Albert” is written and performed by the amazing Norwegian band, Project Brundlefly and is used with permission. 11, 13 & 15 Year-Olds Charged With Running Over Cyclist & Waving Gun At Him

A 13-year-old boy faces murder charges for allegedly swerving a stolen car to kill a cyclist — a 63-year-old Sandia National Laboratory physicist on his morning bike ride — at the urging of two other boys, one of whom is only 11 years old and was reportedly waving a gun. According to Albuquerque police, the deadly crash happened around 4:40 a.m. on May 29, 2022, near Moon Street and Atkinson Avenue. Investigators say the 13-year-old intentionally veered off the road and struck the cyclist, identified as 63-year-old Scott Dwight Habermehl, who was riding to work at Sandia. A chilling video that surfaced on social media last month and was later obtained by police allegedly captures the moments leading to the impact. As the young driver prepared to ram the cyclist, a 15-year-old passenger can be heard saying “Just bump him, brah,” while the 11-year-old front-seat passenger waved a handgun and laughed. Authorities say the 13-year-old accelerated and hit Habermehl, killing him and then fleeing the scene. Investigators initially struggled to solve the fatal hit-and-run until receiving an anonymous tip and discovering that the suspects' phones — seized from a separate investigation — contained video evidence. Police later identified the trio as 13-year-old Johnathan Overbay, 15-year-old William Garcia, and an 11-year-old boy who remains unnamed in official reports, though local media identified him as Messiah Hayes. Overbay was apprehended Monday on charges that include murder, conspiracy to commit murder, leaving the scene of an accident involving great bodily harm or death, and unlawful possession of a handgun. Police continue to search for Garcia, who faces the same charges. The 11-year-old is too young to be charged with murder but remains under investigation for other possible offenses. Habermehl had worked as a physicist at Sandia National Laboratory for nearly three decades. His family recalled his daily 25-mile bike commute, which he preferred to driving in traffic. “This case is an appalling and heartbreaking reminder of the serious juvenile crime crisis we face in New Mexico,” Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said in a statement. “Our lack of tools to properly address it is tragic.” Overbay has also been linked to other crimes prior to the deadly crash, including assault and breaking and entering, according to local reports. Police say the 11-year-old suspect likewise has a significant criminal history, involving alleged shootings and burglaries. Charges for the 15-year-old suspect — who is still at large — and the possibility of either juvenile suspect being tried as an adult remain under review. According to the Interstate Commission for Juveniles, children as young as 14 can have their cases transferred to adult court. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Amber Lea is a daughter, a sister, a wife, and a mother figure to her husband's two kids. She's an incredibly intelligent woman with a great sense of humor that has taken on the challenge of facing health and medical issues with an admirable sense of strength. She's also the owner of Dear You Tattoo (4470 Rainbow in KCK), and she's my guest for Episode No. 156.I usually chat with my guests for a few minutes before we launch into the conversation, and somewhere along the way in that transition, I cut off Amber's name in introducing her, and went straight in to Dear You details, so my apologies to Amber for that oversight. Talking with Amber was really great, though.Every once in a while, I get to sit down with someone who gets the art of conversation and the concept of being real in doing so, and Amber is, for sure, one of those rarities; I consider our chat to've been a blessing. We talked about family and growing up and the pursuit of genuine customer service. We shared a couple of laughs about a few random things like Cheech & Chong, and raved over a few MTV Unplugged (which has been around for 29 seasons and over 100 episodes!) performances. And of course we talked about a few of Amber's favorite albums, which she was kind enough to break into two lists:All-Time FavesMinistry's With Sympathy (1983)Pretty Hate Machine (1989), Nine Inch NailsPortishead's Dummy (1994)Mezzanine (1998), Massive AttackModern Brain TicklersServices (2015), TempersPublic Memory's Wuthering Drum (2016)I'm Waving, Not Drowning (2020), Matte BlvckHealth's Disco4, pt. 1&2 (2022)Please check out Dear You on Instagram (@dearyoutattoo), or peruse their super-handsome Web site, dearyoutattoo.com. For some reasons Donald Trump is threatened by the fact that Kamala Harris worked at McDonald's in her youth. He has even accused her of making it up. So Trump decided that he would work at McDonald's for a day, but even THAT was exposed as a sham, a con, a show. As New York Magazine put it: "So in an effort to highlight his claim that Kamala Harris never worked at McDonald's, Trump pretended to work at a closed McDonald's where he served pretend orders to supporters pretending to be customers."
