This week, Aebhric talks with Andrew Azelton, a CoROM MSc student, discussing his journey through the EMS field and the challenges faced in pursuing advanced practice as a paramedic. He highlights the lack of master's programs in the U.S. that focus on clinical experience, contrasting it with the more developed systems in Europe. The discussion explores state regulations, the variability of care across different regions, and potential pathways for paramedics to advance their roles within the healthcare system. They explore the concept of an advanced practice paramedic, comparing EMS systems in the U.S. and Europe, discussing funding challenges, and the potential for creating new pathways for paramedics. It emphasises the need for advanced education and training, as well as the importance of funding in implementing changes in the EMS system. The discussion also touches on the future of paramedic education and offers advice for new medics entering austere medicine.TakeawaysAndrew Aselton is pursuing a master's program in EMS.The U.S. lacks master's programs focused on clinical experience for paramedics. The EMS system in the U.S. is fractured and varies by state. In Europe, paramedics have their own licenses and greater autonomy.State regulations have a significant impact on the practice of paramedics in the U.S.Advanced practice paramedics are emerging in some states, like Kentucky. There is a need for a structured pathway for advanced practice paramedics in the U.S.The conversation highlights the differences in EMS practices between the U.S. and Europe.Waving a magic wand could lead to significant changes in paramedic education. The discussion raises questions about the future of paramedics in advanced roles. An advanced practice paramedic should have field experience and a graduate degree.Hands-on learning and clinical attachments are crucial for paramedic education. The EMS system in the U.S. varies significantly by state and funding.Funding challenges hinder the implementation of advanced practice paramedics in the U.S.EMS is often not considered an essential service, which can impact funding and resources.Data shows that treatment release can save money and reduce hospital admissions.A national support system is needed for advanced practice paramedics.Creating a nurse practitioner pathway for paramedics could be beneficial.Funding disparities exist between tax-based and for-profit EMS systems.New medical professionals should seek appropriate training and be prepared for the challenges of working in austere environments.Chapters00:00 Introduction to Andrew Aselton and His Journey02:37 Challenges and Growth in the Master's Program05:10 The State of EMS Education in the U.S.07:47 Advanced Practice Paramedics: A Path Forward10:41 The Future of EMS and Advanced Practice Opportunities12:00 Designing the Advanced Practice Paramedic14:52 Comparing EMS Systems: U.S. vs Europe18:00 Funding Challenges in EMS21:50 The Role of Advanced Practice Providers24:08 Creating a New Pathway for Paramedics29:59 The Future of Paramedic Education32:59 Advice for New Medics in Austere Medicine

PREVIEW: London Protests: Analyzing Motive Beyond Information and Propaganda Guest: Joseph Sternberg Joseph Sternberg analyzes London protesters waving Palestinian flags, noting they are mainly British citizens of South Asian heritage. He cautions that while they may be uninformed about the war's specific contours or exposed to Hamas propaganda, their motivation is not an "information problem." Sternberg concludes they are motivated by the fundamental fact that they "don't like Israel," suggesting this is the core issue they are "very informed about."
“Don't fight the Fed here,” Ted Thatcher emphasizes, and digs into divisions and dissents within the agency. He covers labor market and spending data, noting that the preponderance of spending is by the top 10% and other red and yellow flags he sees. “Is the economy working for younger Americans?” he asks. He also asks if the AI infrastructure being built now will actually be used in the next few years.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Options involve risks and are not suitable for all investors. This particular Sunday's reading from Hebrews presented us with the classic definition of faith. Can you call it to mind? Faith is far more than a feeling. Scripture labels as faith a thing or ability that “sees” a long, long way beyond what human senses can confirm in the moment. In other words, it's Holy Spirit-inspired perceiving/believing. Language fails, but somehow faith is a thing you can stand on and trust that you won't fall, but at the same time it's a super sense can gaze far into the unknown. That's what the ancients were commended for. They never received the promised made to them while living, but they still saw them way off in the distance and waved at them. Waiving at the future. What faith! Do you have the faith to wave at the future God has prepared for you? Join us!

Send us a textWhen Tony Eldridge decided to wave colored shirts on hangers in his front yard as a child, pretending to be a flagman, he never imagined it would lead to a 20-year career in motorsports that would touch countless lives. His journey from those humble beginnings to becoming one of the most respected figures in Midwest short track racing reveals both the magic and challenges of grass-roots motorsports. In this candid conversation with Melinda Russell, Tony shares the full arc of his racing story—from his early days attending races as a newborn at Santa Fe Speedway to his own brief racing career that included championship wins, before finding his true calling as a flagman and announcer. The pivotal moment came in 2005 when Keith Hankins offered him a flagging position, launching two decades of Saturday nights dedicated to the sport he loves.Throughout our discussion, Tony pulls back the curtain on the harsh realities facing short track racing today. "We're losing the old-timers, and there's no fan base," he explains, detailing how even packed pit areas with 100+ race cars can't sustain a track when only 300 fans are in the grandstands. He offers fascinating insights into the economics of track operation—from the $30,000 needed just to open the gates for a single night to how weather and competing entertainment options have dramatically affected attendance.Perhaps most poignantly, Tony reveals why after 20 seasons without missing a single Saturday, he's stepping away from full-time track involvement. "When it's no longer fun, I just don't want to do it," he shares, explaining his determination not to let burnout ruin his love for racing. Yet his story isn't about abandonment but evolution—finding new ways to contribute through announcing at Hartford Speedway and with the MCR Dwarf cars while finally making time for family and personal health.Whether you're a die-hard race fan or simply appreciate stories of passion and perseverance, Tony's reflections offer valuable perspective on finding balance between dedication to a calling and the need for personal sustainability. Abebe Butterfly Song is a documentary that starts as a narrative exploration of Melbourne musician David Bridie, best known for his work in bands like Not Drowning, Waving and My Friend the Chocolate Cake, but then folds in his life-changing experience of travelling to Papua New Guinea and meeting musician George Telek and the Moab Stringband. The film then takes audiences through a journey of discovering Papua New Guinea culture and how Australia's past is intertwined with Papua New Guinea's future. This includes explorations of the engagements during WW2, the devastating volcano eruption in 1994, and the music the emerges from these histories. Abebe Butterfly Song arrives as Papua New Guinea prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary of independence.Andrew interviewed director Rosie Jones about bringing this story to life. Here's Your One-Second Mood Reset-- Close your eyes. Find God. Open your eyes. See God. Know that that feeling is now appearing as the world. God is always in front of you. Waving at you. Walking by you. Talking to you. God is always right where you are, appearing as you and as everything on display. It's never hidden. This is the highest meditation. To Look and Love. To Look and Love. To Look, and not let the appearance of the world make you forget to feel Love. Every object, every creature, every man, woman and child, has a soul and it is the destiny of all, to see as God sees, to know as God knows, to feel as God feels, to Be as God is." -Meister Eckhart "The Life Force that perpetuates your heartbeat and maintains and sustains all the other organs and functions of your body is not physical, but it is spiritual... is not temporal, but is eternal. And once that basic truth has been established in your consciousness, you will experience the dissolution of all fear, the healing of all diseases, and the resolution of all conflicts. This is the supernal activity of the Word being made flesh... this is the sacred process of Divine Grace being established on earth as it is in Heaven." -Don Mardak "The highest meditation is to think of nothing.
