DND 5e ARTIFICER 1 (Remastered) - Crafting Chaos: A Guide to Building the Master Artisan

The RPGBOT.Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later May 30, 2026 50:07

The Artificer is the only class in D&D where a player can confidently say, I have a solution for this, then spend forty-five minutes opening character sheets, checking infusions, reorganizing inventory, building a robot dog, enchanting a teapot, and accidentally inventing OSHA violations. Meanwhile the Barbarian solved the problem by hitting it with a chair twenty minutes ago. Show Notes This week we rolled up our sleeves, emptied the tool bag onto the workbench, and dove into one of D&D's most complicated and delightfully chaotic classes. The Artificer promises magic, gadgets, inventions, and endless customization, but it also comes with enough moving parts to make some Wizards nervous. We explored what makes the class tick, where it shines, and why it rewards players who enjoy fiddling with builds as much as actually playing them. The class is built around adaptability, magical crafting, and having an answer for almost every problem if you planned ahead enough. We dug into subclass choices and the different flavors of magical engineering. Whether you want potion-fueled support, a walking tank suit, magical artillery, or a robot companion ready to throw itself into danger, there is an option that fits. The discussion highlighted how each subclass dramatically changes the feel of the character while still keeping that core identity of magical problem solver intact. Of course, being an Artificer also means embracing analysis paralysis. Spells, infusions, tools, prepared items, crafting decisions, and magic item choices all compete for your attention. If you love optimization puzzles this class is paradise. If not, you may suddenly understand why the Fighter sleeps so well at night. Key Takeaways Artificers thrive on versatility and can fill support, utility, blasting, healing, and frontline roles depending on build choices. Infusions are one of the class's defining features and effectively let characters hand out custom magic items early in a campaign. Subclass selection heavily shapes playstyle: Alchemist focuses on support and healing Armorer becomes a magical tank Artillerist leans into blasting Battle Smith gains the Steel Defender companion The class rewards players who enjoy planning, tinkering, and character optimization more than simple turn-by-turn gameplay. Tool proficiencies and crafting are central to the fantasy, even if tables vary widely in how often they matter. The Artificer's spellcasting style is unique and leans heavily into using tools and infused objects as magical focuses. Waving lockpicks around while casting spells remains objectively funny. Today's episode is a little different. If you're a regular listener to the show, you know that usually we hear a story from a regular person about something they've experienced that was extremely unusual. We have over 250 episodes like that – plane crashes, mass shootings, animal attacks, and lots more. And it's not all trauma stories – we have some happy ones too. But sometimes we change it up, and I have a guest on who has a really unusual job. I've talked to Spence, who's a lighthouse keeper, and Dan, who prepares people for their first time going to prison, and Jen – who works as a professional bridesmaid. You can scroll through all the back episodes and find those and a few more. So today I'm speaking with Elaina. As a young person, she was hired to work at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World – as Mickey Mouse. You know, when you're at Disney World, and you're walking around trying to decide if you go ride the Space Mountain roller coaster, or take a break in the air conditioning and watch the Country Bear Musical Jamboree, and all of a sudden you see standing right in front of you is – Mickey Mouse. Waving, signing autographs, and just making people happy. Yeah, that's what Elaina did. She also played Minnie Mouse, and a few other characters sometimes. We talked about how she ended up getting that job, what it's like to wear the costume, what would get you fired, and the celebrities she crossed paths with. And of course, what everyone wants to know about – the infamous tunnels UNDER Disney World. You're gonna get all the behind-the-scenes stuff today. And why is this episode titled “Elaina was FRIENDS with Mickey”? She'll explain that too. Full text: https://eggshelltherapy.com/high-functioning-depression/(Recorded with human voice)We can think of the mechanism of high functioning depression this way: At some point in your life, perhaps because the mental burden on you had become overwhelming, your psyche created an internal split to cope.In high functioning depression, what develops is a division between your "high functioning part" and your "depressed part." The high functioning part is what you use to cope with demands from the world. It is what you carry to work and use to run day-to-day tasks. It appears strong and capable; It maintains the facade of being the person others rely upon, the responsible one who never falters, the good friend who always has time, the loyal worker who exceeds expectations, the loving partner who always meets their loved one's needs. Meanwhile, running parallel to this competent exterior is your vulnerable and depressed part. It feels like a younger, more raw, unedited version of you. It is the aspect of self that houses all the suffering, all the despair, all the unprocessed grief, and overwhelming pain. It holds memories of the painful experiences you have endured, and because of that, most of the time, you would rather not get in touch with it, so it has been split off and hidden, even from yourself, in the dark corner of your psyche.  Eggshell Therapy and Coaching: eggshelltherapy.com About Imi Lo: www.imiloimilo.comInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/eggshelltherapy_imilo/ Newsletters: https://eepurl.com/bykHRzDisclaimers: https://www.eggshelltherapy.com/disclaimers Trigger Warning: This episode may cover sensitive topics including but not limited to suicide, abuse, violence, severe mental illnesses, relationship challenges, sex, drugs, alcohol addiction, psychedelics, and the use of plant medicines. Rabbi Shimon derives from the words "et hamincha" that many additional menachot require hagasha (bringing the offering to the altar). However, he uses three other specific exclusions from the verse to exempt certain offerings: The two loaves and showbread: Excluded from the word "m'eleh" (from these), as these are not burned on the altar. The mincha of libations: Excluded from "v'hikriva" (and he shall bring it), as these offerings accompany animal sacrifices. Voluntary offerings of kohanim and the kohen gadol's griddle cakes: Excluded from "v'higisha" (and he shall bring it near), as these are burned entirely and no portion is given to the priests. The Mishna continues by categorizing sacrifices: those that require waving (tenufa) but not hagasha, those that require both, and those that require neither. The Gemara brings the biblical sources for the various sacrifices that require waving. Notably, waving can be performed even on the east side of the Temple courtyard. The Gemara questions why this differs from hagasha, which must be performed specifically at the southwest corner of the altar. Rabbi Eliezer ben Yaakov and Rabbi Yehuda each utilize a different verse to derive the source for the waving of the bikkurim. Why was only Rabbi Eliezer ben Yaakov mentioned in the Mishna? Two answers are suggested. Waving is a collaborative act performed by both the kohen and the owner of the sacrifice. The Gemara identifies the source for this joint action. However, an exception exists: if the owner is a woman, waving is still required, but the woman herself does not perform the act. The Gemara derives the source for this specific exemption. Converts are freed Caananite slaves are obligated in waving, as is derived from "hamakriv," the one who offers the sacrifice.

A new mishnah! Two requirements of all grain-offerings (and not only): 1. bringing near (to the altar), and 2. waving. The bringing near is only done for grain-offerings, but not all grain-offerings. The waving is not only done for grain-offerings, and not all of them, and not all of other offerings either, but for some of them. First listed are those that require drawing near and no waving. (Rabbi Shimon doesn't agree that drawing near is required of all of the grain-offerings on this list). Also, comparing these factors and what they have in common, and where they differ. Plus, a different view again by Rabbi Shimon, where he needs to find a different common denominator (which he does): the commonality or regularity in which they are brought.

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. US bureau chief Jacob Magid joins host Jessica Steinberg for today's episode. In the foreign policy portion of his lengthy State of the Union address, US President Donald Trump repeated his oft-mentioned talking points about Iran, Magid reports, noting the president's terminology about never hesitating to confront threats against the US. Trump has said he is "aware of" last week's killing of Palestinian-American 19-year-old Nasrallah Abu Siam in an armed settler attack in the West Bank, and Magid reviews why the US administration has not commented or gotten involved in this latest incident of Jewish settler violence. As the US Embassy in Israel announces first-time pop-up locations for consular services in the Jewish settlements of Efrat and Beitar Illit, Magid discusses the decision to hold the project in these new locations. With a formal communication channel established between the Board of Peace and the Palestinian Authority, Magid discusses how the PA is seeking legitimacy and aims to be as involved as possible in the Gaza reconstruction. Magid also reports on conversations with Arab and European diplomats involved in the Board of Peace, and their comments about the enormous amount of pressure required to be applied on Hamas and Israel for the disarmament of Hamas to succeed. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Diplomatic correspondent Lazar Berman joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. The next round of talks between the United States and Iran is scheduled for Thursday in Geneva. Even as US military pressure mounts, Tehran expressed hope that a nuclear agreement could be reached that would avert a looming attack. Berman updates on where things stand ahead of US President Donald Trump's State of the Union address tomorrow. We then turn back the clock to last week's inaugural Board of Peace meeting in DC. Washington secured some $7 billion in pledges toward Gaza’s recovery from key Mideast allies; five countries agreed to contribute troops to the International Stabilization Force tasked with phasing the IDF out of Gaza; and plans are advancing to deploy thousands of Palestinian police in Gaza within two months. What about Hamas demilitarization? Berman weighs in. In a program released Friday following his brief visit to Israel, right-wing commentator Tucker Carlson claimed the Israeli government targeted his family, called the Jewish state “probably the most violent country on earth” and aired numerous antisemitic tropes. We hear why the media personality is latching on to them -- and who is listening. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. How and why did the South's history, culture, and politics shape the region's nuclear and energy industries? And how is that history linked to broader developments in the nuclear and energy industries—nationally and globally? Radioactive Dixie: A Nuclear History of the American South (U Georgia Press, 2025) by Dr. Caroline Peyton answers those questions as it traces the origins of the U.S. South's love affair with the atom. The South contains more nuclear reactors than any other region in the United States and much of the nation's radioactive waste. This book shows how the South's atomic footprint resulted from a decades-long effort by Southern politicians, industry figures, universities, and government officials to transform the American South into a nuclear-oriented region. Waving the atomic talisman, the nuclear industry served as one pivotal part in a larger project of regional modernization—a process that began in the nineteenth century and lasted more than a century. From this perspective, bomb plants and nuclear reactors promised to expand the South's economy and to cast its identity as a center of modern industry, science, and engineering and as a producer of cheap, limitless energy. Radioactive Dixie is the first book to chronicle this regional story that had national implications. Southern history informed national siting decisions, regulatory oversight, and attitudes toward the various nuclear projects that proliferated in the post–World War II period. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. Rio heads to Carrington for an unmissable sit-down with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes — his most honest interview yet.For the first time, Bruno lifts the lid on the truth behind his Manchester United loyalty, revealing two genuine chances he had to leave, why he stayed, and how modern players' loyalty is judged differently compared to legends like Francesco Totti, Ryan Giggs and Paolo Maldini.Bruno also breaks down the big tactical shift in his game this season — how playing deeper has changed his decision-making, the challenges for him and Kobbie Mainoo who play in that role what the manager demands from him in the No.8 position, and how Italian football influenced his game.He gives rare insight into United's dressing room dynamics, analysing his teammates and explaining the incredible level of detail he computes on the pitch to ensure he delivers the perfect pass depending on which forward he's feeding.Bruno also addresses Roy Keane's criticism and how he really feels about it, the private conversations referees have had with him about body languag and discussions with managers Ruben Amorim and Erik Ten Hag about the level of pressure he puts on himself and how it sometimes negatively affects the team's structure. And in classic Rio Meets style, Bruno opens up about the personalities behind the scenes — the biggest jokers in the squad, what really happens when someone steps out of line, and how he handles moments as captain that fans never get to see. Episode summary Author and teacher Philip Goldberg returns to unpack his new book, Karmic Relief (Monkfish). We cut through pop-karma clichés and ask the hard questions: Why do bad actors prosper? What about innocent suffering? Does “what goes around” really come around—and when? Phil offers a clear, practice-ready model grounded in Yoga and Vedānta: karma as lawful cause-and-effect, refined by intention (saṅkalpa) and awareness (svādhyāya), and lived through skillful action (kriyā/karma-yoga). No sugar-coating—just a compassionate, accountable path forward.About our guest Philip Goldberg is the author of the classic American Veda and many other works on India's wisdom traditions. He writes, teaches, and speaks internationally about the practical application of yoga philosophy in modern life. More at philipgoldberg.com.What we coverTwo default frames that fail: cynical materialism (“life's unfair—deal with it”) and a punitive theism that outsources justice—why yoga offers a third way: karma as a law of nature, not a cosmic scorekeeper.Intention matters: why the motivation and quality of mind behind an action shape its consequences—on us and on the field around us.It's not linear: why “instant karma” is the exception; most effects are complex, delayed, and braided with other people's actions. Not just the “bad stuff”: noticing beneficial returns—friendship, support, opportunities—as karma, too.Humility as the doorway: we can't fathom every cause; we can act skillfully anyway.Prevention is practice: building a karmic “balance sheet” through ethical living, steady practice, and timely amends reduces the sting when old debts come due.Forgiveness begins at home: how self-forgiveness and sincere amends interrupt the “slow acid drip of regret.”Prayer, Bhakti & nervous system: prayer as practice for the prayer-giver (bhakti), shifting state and making right action more likely.Yama–Niyama as method, not morals: using the first two limbs practically to uproot harmful samskāras rather than memorize rules.Boundaries are dharma: over-giving and “doormat karma” as the near-enemy of compassion; why healthy limits are part of right action.Practical takeaways Choose skillful action now. You can't rewrite yesterday's causes; you can stack better conditions today.Mind the motive. Before you act, ask: What's my real intention? Adjust there.Make clean amends. Own your slice only, sincerely, and repair what you can. Then change the behavior.Practice = prevention. Daily āsana–prāṇāyāma–dhyāna clears the field (samskāra hygiene) so wise choices come faster.Measure by learning. Treat consequences as feedback, not verdicts. If the same pattern repeats, a lesson is waiting.Selected quotes“Karma is closer to physics than to theology—causes and conditions, not a personality keeping score.”“If you dismiss suffering as ‘their karma,' that response becomes your karma.”“Humility matters: we can't trace every cause, but we can choose wisely now.”“Boundaries are part of compassion—virtue misapplied becomes a near-enemy.”Resources & linksKarmic Relief by Philip Goldberg — Monkfish (now available).Philip Goldberg's site: philipgoldberg.comAlso by Phil: American Veda (context for how Eastern wisdom seeded the West).Related Yoga Therapy Hour episode: Our first conversation with Phil on American Veda (link in feed).Interested in advancing your own studies in Yoga Therapy and Ayurveda?Explore these graduate and certificate programs at Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH):Master of Science in Yoga Therapy https://muih.edu/academics/yoga-therapy/master-of-science-in-yoga-therapy/Post-Master's Certificate in Therapeutic Yoga Practices (for licensed healthcare professionals) https://muih.edu/academics/yoga-therapy/post-masters-certificate-in-therapeutic-yoga-practices/Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Ayurveda https://muih.edu/academics/ayurveda/post-baccalaureate-ayurveda-certification/Plus, join us on our Optimal State Mobile App for daily check-ins and simple, easy interventions to help you stay in balance. And explore our Online Community, where you'll receive weekly classes and gain access to a library of classes you can enjoy anytime. From Rosner's to the Park Hills Bowling Alley, from pre-internet tour networking to the tight-knit relationships that formed on the road, this episode captures an era that refuses to fade.We explore Last Flight Home's recent recording sessions, and their return to the stage. Justin reflects on the early days of struggling to book shows and eventually becoming one of the scene's most effective promoters, proving how networking and hustle turned into lifelong relationships and opportunities. The conversation moves through memories of Papa Roach, Soulfly, and the chaotic but beautiful early-2000s scene that saw hardcore, emo, indie, punk, and metal bands all sharing the same stage. Finally, the guys officially announce the Bob-A-Rino's Class of 2003 Reunion Show featuring:Last Flight HomeBi-LevelMoon (from Goldfinger, Greek Fire)Enemy AirshipA Symphony of PunchesThis is more than a reunion show - it's a celebration of a scene, a time, and a community that shaped many musical journies.www.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. He cautions that while they may be uninformed about the war's specific contours or exposed to Hamas propaganda, their motivation is not an "information problem." Sternberg concludes they are motivated by the fundamental fact that they "don't like Israel," suggesting this is the core issue they are "very informed about."
