Party Favorz is back with our annual HW22 series and this one packs a punch! HW22 is loaded with all the latest dance club hits like the massive "UnHoly" by Sam Smith and Kim Petras, "Cuff It" by Beyoncé, "Believe" by ARCRAZE and Goodboys, and "Miss You" by Oliver Tree & Robin Schulz amongst several others. Throw in some recurring club hits that just won't let up like "I'm Good" (Blue) by David Guetta & Bebe Rexha, "Drugs From Amsterdam" by Mau P, a hi-energy rework of "Bad Memories" by Meduza and James Carter, and "Yeah The Girls" by Fisher (OZ) and Meryll along with some classic throwbacks that have been reworked for today's dancefloors with some spooky Halloween club favorites and you have a recipe for the holiday's biggest dance party. One of our favorite new songs out at the moment that's not getting the attention it deserves is "All By Myself" by Alok, Sigala, and Ellie Goulding, which frankly should be sitting in the Billboard Top 5 right now. Ellie Goulding has been hitting some home runs lately but it's almost like ageism that she can't get the recognition she deserves. She's always straddled that line between Indie and Commercial by associating herself with some of the scene's biggest underground talent. Her latest single samples the Depeche Mode classic "Enjoy The Silence" making the song instantly recognizable and catchy AF. Be sure to check out the video below and add the song to your Spotify or Apple Music playlist. https://youtu.be/EwGqurkkgM4 Overall, I enjoyed putting this set together for you. It's a lot of fun and there's enough eye-watering hotness along with several surprises to keep y'all engaged for a couple of weeks while I work on our next Chill Out set. Until the next time...ENJOY! Party Favorz is back and swinging for the fences as we get back to our normal programming schedule the Back 2 School Edition featuring fall's biggest dance club songs. There's a lot to unpack here so let's get started. We kicked off the set with Beyonce's Break My Soul, which was a little slow out of the gate before people started getting on board. The songwriting credits included the writers for the 90s Robin S classic Show Me Love but to me – there were zero similarities to either song. Both use the standard House music loop featured in most songs back in the day but with little resemblance to that earworm hook courtesy of the StoneBridge remix, which is what made the original a massive hit. Finally, DJ Mike D had the good sense to remix the song with that familiar riff and it works in spades. Still, the best remix of the track that flips and turns it into a big room crowd pleaser is from our good friends from Houston, Dirty Disco. In fact, Dirty Disco appears to be the go-to for remixing the biggest songs hitting the charts these days, and for good reason. While they don't have a specific signature (which is one of their finest qualities) — they seem to approach each remix with a different mindset and give it what it needs to turn it into a massive dance floor scorcher. You will hear plenty of examples in this set but the one that really takes the prize is their remix of Calvin Harris' Stay With Me featuring Justin Timberlake, Halsey, and Timberlake. We all know superstar DJ/producer Calvin Harris has a lot of friends in high places but even they couldn't save this song. Enter Dirty Disco from stage left. They massively restructured the original and turned it on its head, which further showcased what the song could be. The remix is so massive and catchy that it got a feature spot in this set when it otherwise wouldn't have. Another DJ people and labels should be keeping an eye on is DJ Ranny. He's been around a while but has proven himself to be more than just a big-room tribal circuit DJ. His WAP remix by Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B was a masterpiece several years ago. Party Favorz is proud to include his original Rave Bunny, which samples the Alice Deejay classic Better Off Alone and delivers an all-new smoking hot Future House song that should be on every DJ's setlist and on your Spotify playlist. https://youtu.be/ok7xXlw8yQc Back 2 School has not only the latest and biggest songs of the season but several earworms of the summer that have gotten new remixes that we here at Party Favorz can't get enough of. Also, there is a multitude of throwbacks included and I'll let y'all spot them as they come up because many aren't labeled as such. One such song comes from the leftfield and was totally unexpected. One of our favorite Divas Miss Leann Rimes has dropped a cover of the Alanis Morissette classic Univited on YouTube. It's an acoustic cover with the accompaniement of piano only. Because the snobs in the music press wouldn't dare cover a country artist — even if they have had a strong presence in the club world for decades — Miss Rimes has teamed up with Dave Aude for a remix of this song, which is featured here and it's OMFG unbelievable. Anyone familiar with the original or is a fan of Alanis will get chills just listening to Leann transcend this song from one generation to the next. After all, she was just a kid when the original went to #1 on the Top 40 charts — albeit a kid wtih a blossoming country music career who was being hailed as the next Patsy Cline. Ultimately, Party Favoz has left no stone unturned and also wanted to contribute our bit of sunshine into what are very troubling times throughout the world. Thankfully, these songs aren't just throwbacks but currently riding high on dance charts meaning that people are gravitating towards messages of hope. Bob Sinclar's classic Wold Hold On resonates as much now as when it was released over a decade ago and topped worldwide charts.
Party Favorz is back to make the unbearably hot days even hotter. Yes, Georgia has had oppressive heat since May but it appears to have subsided to a more reasonable 90 degrees (Fahrenheit) for the next week with low 70s for our evenings. The humidity is still 100% but we've had a lot of rain so that offsets it for a hot minute until the rain goes away and it feels worse. Summer Melt is a melting pot of genres containing the latest Dance Club tracks from House, Melodic House, NuDisco, EDM, Tech House, and Latin House. It's everything going on in dance music with unexpected surprise reworks of classic tracks. There were so many of these — I went back this morning and tightened the set up by throwing several songs out. It hurts but it had to be done. I apologize to anyone who I may have told I would use their songs in this series but when you're pouring over hundreds of songs for a single set — sometimes they get lost in the shuffle. Keep sending your promos because I do use them whenever possible. Party Favorz is all about the small independent labels and we do our best to promote music that flies under the radar. In the interim, Summer Melt is just what the doctor ordered along with your favorite beer or margarita while trying to cool down at the beach or poolside. August is just around the corner and this year, the entire month will be devoted to the queen...MADONNA. Party Favorz is working on a comprehensive set of all her classic dance tracks from the beginning to the current day in their original release form. We expect 5 volumes in total (though it might only be four). Honestly, we had no idea she was releasing "Finally Enough Love" featuring her 50 #1 dance club hits, which was our goal as well. Though, that release will be the truncated dance versions of those songs while Party Favorz plans on delivering a non-stop historical party of all her biggest club hits and some that were for DJs only with minimum editing involved. There's also a best of the bootlegs album that will drop after the initial releases. I promise, we're not trying to step on anyone's toes and if she wants them for streaming — she's welcome to them (though a little compensation would be nice for all the hard work). This series is strictly intended as a fan effort because we know a lot of you are diehard fans. As you can see, we have a BIG August scheduled for everyone's enjoyment. Since this is going to be a massive effort, I need to finally take that time off I keep telling everyone I'm going to take but never do. Party Favorz has been going non-stop since February and frankly, it's taking a toll on me. I have personal things that need attending to that I keep putting off and no longer can. So, I will be taking two weeks off before we start rolling out our final Madonna tribute series because we want to go out with a bang for our final year. Until the next time...ENJOY! I decided to surprise everyone by dropping volume 2 of the 2022 Catch-Up series a day early. Lately, the summer weather has been hotter than hell as we had a high of 102 degrees yesterday and a short-lived massive storm complete with hail that I got stuck in. Life is coming at everyone fast so I figured why put off what you can give the people today. If you thought any songs were missing from yesterday's drop — they're likely included here. I threw in a few extras to round the final set out and the end result is an early summer party you don't want to miss. Some of you may have been disappointed that I spent so much time sending up all the Gay Anthem series in lieu of new music but to be honest — something is off about new releases. They're just not there and most of what is there is fairly generic. It appears that either the DJ services I rely on are either about to go under or there's just not enough new content that's being delivered on a regular basis. It's hard to tell but when I dive into the world of YouTube, I'm not seeing a whole bunch that's wowing me at the moment. Putting this series together was one of the hardest things I had to do. Don't get me wrong, what's here is stellar and certainly, there was enough to fill two sets with a little help from last year's late entries and a few filler tracks. Still, I couldn't justify putting out redundant sets and passing them off as new material even if there were indeed new big releases from say Lizzo. I've been working my ass off to deliver those Gay Anthem sets for you folks and in the process lost several subscribers (some of them longtime) while picking up 5x as many during the same period. I don't think those folks will stick around but if they do, welcome. In short, I'm exhausted and need to recharge my batteries for at least a week. Don't plan on anything new this next weekend but I do have plans for a duel-release just in time for July 4th celebrations. In fact, I'll be trying something different. I'll definitely be dropping the next Peak Hour set and I have another party set that's not like anything ever done before on this site that I think everyone will enjoy. It's something I had originally planned for November but put off due to scheduling issues but I think now is the perfect time to go for it. Still, July will bring our usual releases like our annual Beach House, Summer Sweat, and Summer Heat series that covers all our bases. I may shake up the Beach House series but to be honest, I haven't even started looking at those tracks yet so no decision has been made. Party Favorz is also anticipating the release of a new Beyonce hybrid dance and country album at the end of July and I fully expect it's going to be HUGE. I anticipate an early release that should make it onto the aforementioned series. In the interim, I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. I'll be back in a couple of weeks with a double-hitter. Until then...ENJOY! Album: Catch-Up 2022 Vol. 2 Genre: Dance, Club, House, NuDisco Year: 2022 Total Time: 03:00:04 1. Mabel, Jax Jones & Galantis - Good Luck (Extended Mix) 2. The original set was created in one take and has since been tightened up with smoother transitions. It's also been shortened by 1minute. If you're fine with the original raw remix, there's no need to download the new version. As promised, Party Favorz has officially switched gears into summer mode with the release of our annual Catch-Up for 2022. This set features the biggest and I mean the BIGGEST Dance Club songs of the year right at the midpoint. As typical of past releases, songs released in the last quarter of the previous year are also included because they had so much staying power — they remained in heavy rotation on streaming and in the clubs well into 2022. To be honest, the club business still hasn't fully recovered to the point that it appears Billboard has officially done away with the chart, which started in the 1970s as the Disco Chart. Who's to say if it will ever be back but the one remaining chart they offer in dance music (Electronic Dance Music) isn't worth a grain of salt and frankly not even worth bothering with. For now, all decisions for songs included in this series are based on YouTube and Spotify streams and we're confident we got it right. The Catch-Up series also includes new releases that either will be or should be summer hits and are solely based on editorial decisions about what we think should be on your radar. While there are several of these songs included across these two volumes there are definitely some notable ones we think deserve your attention. First among these is a song released in the late fall of 2021 that apparently never came to our attention. Anabel Englund's 'Midnight Rapture' is an earworm delight that samples the Blondie #1 classic 'Rapture' from 1981. It's in keeping with many artists diving into their parent's record collections and pulling out delights from the decade and re-working the songs with fresh lyrics and a whole new vibe while keeping the original intact. Englund even creates a spoken-word interlude, which is more appropriate today than Debbie Harry's wonderbread rap on the original. Still, if you're not familiar with the song it's a pure delight. You should add it to your Spotify or Apple Music playlist. Sofi Tukker (a Party Favorz favorite) is back with a couple of earworms for your summer listening. 'Original Sin' follows their trademark sound complete with the 1960s bass riff Tucker Halpern injects to great effect into many of their biggest songs. The Crush Club remix takes into deeper house terriorty but injects a euphoric and uplifting riff into the song about halfway through and is repeated again towards the end. You can add it to your Spotify or Apple Music playlist. Our biggest pick here is 'Summer In New York' where Sofi Tukker lay down their cool kids indie vibe. Sofi even adds the familiar Suzanne Vega riff from her 1980s song 'Tom's Diner,' which was given the house treatment by DNA in the early 1990s. I'm fairly certain this is Soffi doing it herself and the song does not rely on this injection to make it the surefire summer anthem it is. Instead, it's almost kind of casually thrown in because it fits the whole vibe. If this song isn't on your Spotify or Apple Music playlist — it should be. You can thank me later. I also want to recognize 'Heat' by TT The Artist, Rony Rex & Psylla. I stumbled on this song by accident and was immediately hooked and haven't been able to get it out of my head since. This is a massive Bass House tune that will blow up any dancefloor and deserves a lot more attention than it's currently receiving. You can add it to your Spotify or Apple Music list here. Check these songs out below: Party Favorz also wants to give a HUGE shoutout to relative newcomer Ryan Leary who not only creates fantastic remixes of existing tunes as featured here in Marshmello & Khalid's 'Numb' and Swedish House Mafia's 'Heaven Takes You Home' giving the originals a much needed boost but he also appears to be p...
Alex Nocera, Roy Batty & Alexenn - Let's Start (Extended Mix) had been duplicated within the mix and is now removed. This has not affected the flow of the mix only made it better without the redundancy. Party Favorz is back with the essential Spring Break dance mix for 2022! This latest set features all the biggest Dance Club hits of the spring — many of which will spillover into Summer. Without of doubt, Joel Corry is on a roll and there's no sign he's stopping anytime soon. He appears to have stepped away from his mainstream sugarcoated dance floor earcandy into a deeper Future House groove that's literally come of leftfield. With 'Liquor Store' still running high on every DJ list, he drops the Trance classic remake of Da Hool's 'Meet Her At the Love Parade' with his own version simply titled 'Parade.' For those of you who took the time to indulge in the Ultimate Trance Classics series we just dropped — this is one of the earliest Trance hits from the 90's that shook the club scene to its foundation. Speaking of Trance classics, the essential Spring Break set also includes Keanu Silva, Toby Romeo & Sacha's 'Hopeless Heart' which is an ode to the Robert Miles Trance classic 'Children' — a song most generations are intimatley familiar with. We also have a 2022 re-work of the massive Trance classic 'Cafe Del Mar' by Paul Reid. I don't know if it was perfect timing or the universe calling back these classics to our collective concious at the same time we put out the Ultimate Trance Classics Series but it does feel awfully coincidental. One of our favorites from 2021, Kah-Lo is back with 'Drag Me Out' and 'The Sweetest Pie' by Megan Thee Stallion & Dua Lipa is already making a huge impact at radio and in the clubs. Remixes are only now coming out so be sure not to miss the Dirty Disco remix coming up on our next installment of the T-Dance series. Swedish House Mafia who've had a remarkable comeback to the club scene have teamed up with Sting for a total reimagining of the Police classic 'Roxanne' with 'Red Light' a song that's already on every DJ's top 10 list. Other notable new tracks gaining momentum are 'Good Luck' by Mabel, Jax Jones & Galantis, 'What Would You Do' by Joel Corry & David Guetta with Bryson Tiller, 'In Your Arms' by Topic, Robin Schulz, Nico Santos & Paul van Dyk (yes, that PVD another Trance reference), Purple Disco Machine and Sophie & the Giant continue their winning collaboration on 'In the Dark' with Oliver Helden doing the remix honors, Ferry Corsten's (yes that FC another Trance throwback) wonderful 'Wounded,' and the KD5 (Kaskade & Deadmaus5) team up for the Progressive House pleasure 'Escape,' while both R3HAB (with Saucy Santanta) and Anna Lunoe take a 'dip' into the Freak Nasty classic with their reworks. Who wins that battle is anyone's guess because they're equally good. Finally, Kungs makes a return with the novelty track 'Clap Your Hands' featuring a children's choir which is making modest inroads in the clubs. Here, Party Favorz delivers an exclusive mashup with David Guetta, which punches up the song making your forget these kids are informing you to remember your A,B,C's. I've been in a funk most of the week and didn't really feel I had much to say about this set until I listened to it back in my car, which totally flipped my frame of mind. This set doesn't ask anything of you other than to pop it on, forget about all the bullshit happening in the world if only for three hours and twenty-seven minutes while playing it LOUD. I hope everyone has a happy and safe Spring Break. I'll be back next week with a companion mix of sorts featuring the latest Peak Hour tracks. Until then...ENJOY! One of the things you may notice about the Party Favorz Top Dance Songs series is that there are always a few songs that never appeared on previous sets from the year. In most instances, it's because we missed them or they never came across our radar. There are literally hundreds of new dance tracks released each week and it's inevitible that some great tunes will fall through the cracks. We work with to different DJ promotional sources (one for official remixes and the other for bootlegs and mashups), labels, DJs and buy anything from Beatport, Traxsource and Bandcamp not available through traditional means, while scouring SoundCloud looking anything worthwhile that's free from up and coming DJs. There's a lot that of research and work that goes into creating every single mix but we're not perfect. This year's missed opportunities are "Gold" by Austin Millz & Aluna (I can't say enough about this song), "Sunshine" by Fat Joe, DJ Khaled & Amorphous (only because there weren't any official remixes released for this song other than the standard DJ edit, which was too slow) and "Please" the final release from Jessie Ware's freaking amazing 2020 album "What's Your Pleasure?" which was her best selling album in the UK to date. Ms. Ware transitioned from her typical moody heartwrenching work to a more uplifting Disco album several months after Dua Lipa released "Future Nostalgia" another album inspired by Disco, 80's Dance and House and was merely coincidental as she had been working on the album for two years. If you really love the FN, you're ears will get equally excited over WYP. Finally, there's "Fire" by Nigerian singer Kah-lo who had previously worked with Riton on "Rinse and Repeat." That song did in fact come across our radar but without any extended edits or remixes, we never used it — something we deeply regret. After all, we had used Soffi Tukker's "Good Time Girl" just a year earlier that had no remixes at the time and also clocked in under 3 minutes. I see a very bright future for Kah-lo and hope that Epic promotes her work to the masses. You can purchase her EP "Arrival" here and it's available on all the streaming platforms as well. Typically, Party Favorz takes a deep dive into our Top Dance Songs annual reviews by combining remixed pop hits (authorized or bootleg because of cultural significance) as well as club-worthy tracks and standard EDM fare that otherwise go unnoticed at radio but has a larger impact in its niche on streaming and YouTube. That being said, here are our Top 20 picks for the biggest dance tracks of the year (in no particular order): 1. Fred Again feat. The dance music scene didn't change too much from 2020 in that there was no groundbreaking sounds and Future House, Tech House and NuDisco continued to drill their throbbing beats into our collective conscience. 2021 was a year that a new crop of DJs broke through in a big way. Leading the pack is Chicago's John Summit whose deep house grooves have really broken through to the masses. Massive tracks like "Sun Came Up" (with Sofi Tukker), "Better Than This" (with Parachute Youth), "Human" (with Echoes) while still riding high on his 2020 hits "Deep End" and "Thin Line" (with Guz) and remixing several other notable artists has propelled his star into the stratosphere. Another DJ whose on a similar trajectory is Brazil's Vintage Culture (Lukas Rafael Ruiz Hespanhol) who's been around a little bit longer. With one #1 Billboard Dance Club hit "In The DarK" (with Fancy Inc.) in 2019, Vintage Culture has been the go-to for many remix productions for other artists. 2021 saw him remix the summer sleeper "Love Tonight" by Shouse, "Talamanca" by Burns, "Let It Go" by Louie Vega & The Martinez Brothers and Marc E. Bassy, "Paradise" by Meduza and Dermot Kennedy amongst many others. Perhaps the biggest breakout of 2022 was Joel Corry who's quickly filling in the spot that Calvin Harris dominated only a few years ago. After having a #6 in the UK with "Sorry" featuring uncredited vocals by Hayley May in 2019, he followed up with the #4 "Lonely" and the #1 "Head & Heart" with MNEK in 2020, which was also his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. Corry has remixed countless other acts and 2022 saw him remixing top hits like "Bad Habits" by Ed Sheeran, "Tick Tock" by Clean Bandit (with Mabel and 24KGoldn), "Body" by Megan Thee Stallion, "Out Out" with Jax Jones, Charlie XCX and Saweetie, and the fantastic "Feeling Good" by the late Nina Simone, which was just featured on the 2021 Jingle Electric. He also had one of the biggest dance songs of 2021 "Bed" with David Guetta and Raye. Party Favorz fully expects to be hearing a lot more from both these guys in 2022. The third and final volume of Top Dance Songs of 2021 is in the can and should be dropping this coming Sunday so be sure to follow us to be the first in line when it happens. We have finally reached the end of the year and it's time to go out with our ultimate New Year dance party mix, Blow Your Own Horn. For the past 8 years, this series has been a mainstay on Party Favorz as a way for everyone to give one final fuck you and farewell to the year that was while looking forward to a better future. I have packed this final kiss-off to the rim with bootlegs, mashups, throwbacks and a boatload of the past year's biggest hits reworked in a way you'd never imagine. As stated previously, the final month of every year has surprises for me that catch me off guard causing monumental headaches and 2021 didn't let me down. As a result, I've been behind the release schedule and I promise to get the remaining Top Dance Songs of the Year 2021 out by the end of the next week. Technically, 2021 isn't finished with me yet. Afterwards, I'll be building a new computer for which all the parts have already arrived and start work on migrating the podcast over to Apple Music. The last part will take a while because the feed is protected and Podbean doesn't allow protected content to by migrated even with a username and password (don't get me started). So, I'll be setting up everything from scratch. Party Favorz will remain on Podbean so as not to affect our Android and Windows users and there will likely be a secondary website strictly for the Apple Music subscribers. The details will be provided at a later date. Frankly, I could use some time off but when I try, I end up starting a new set anyway. All I ask is that you be patient with me while I work on the getting everything setup. As you all know, 2023 will be the 15th year for Party Favorz and I've got a lot of loose ends, ultimate and essential collections scheduled for release next year. The goal is to wrap up the podcast nice and tidy with everything on my bucket list checked off. I hope everyone has a fabulous (and safe) New Year celebration. We will get through this pandemic and life will hopefully return to normal in 2023. I'll see everyone on the other side. Until then…ENJOY! This set has been reworked by smoothing out transitions, which are better suited for preserving the integrity of this time capsule that was 2021 in dance music. Track listing has remained the same and no other significant changes were made. 2021 has been a rollercoaster of a year. Despite the depressing nature of one of the year's biggest dance hits 'Marea (We've Lost Dancing)' by Fred Again and The Blessed Madonna — dance music remained a constant in our lives. The song presented us with an optimistic outlook wrapped in a solemn deep house groove but truth be told — the hits kept rolling out and so we partied like it's 2099 or at least many of us did while attending super spreader events hosted by big name DJs (one of whom is featured prominently on this year-end list). I'm holding back, can you tell...oh fuck it! Because of my circumstances, I've been fully prepared for the pandemic and the isolation that came with it, while many were having public meltdowns over wearing a mask. Cry me a fucking river if you refuse to get vaccinated and then bitch for having to wait hours on end in the emergency room with a broken foot because they're overflowing with covid patients. Cry me a river if you were fired from your job for refusing to not only protect yourself but your co-workers and family. I have little patience for self-serving science deniers (HELLO MOM) who have been the sole reason the pandemic has stretched into a second year and possibly a third. Seriously, FUCK YOU! Climbs down from soapbox... Now that I got that out of my system, Party Favorz is presenting our annual Top Dance Songs of the Year for 2021 and this series covers all the bases while hitting all the right notes. These are the songs that you hummed along to, danced by yourself to, played in your car on your way to work, or whatever it was you were doing to fill time. Future House, NuDisco and Tech House continued to dominate with Big Room still lurking behind. All the BIG and midling hits are here. Don't be fooled by these phony year-end lists created in Spotify with a bunch of radio edits because these novelists cant touch this shit. Sorry for the rough tone but I guess I have a lot to let out these days. I'm way behind the curve on getting these sets out so I'm dropping the first volume — while keeping my fingers crossed — without the full airing and flushing out of errors or swapping track versions before releasing it. I promised volume one and you're getting it (warts and all). I hate rushing mixes but a series of year-end setbacks have diverted my attention, which is par for the course every year. I WILL be back with our annual New Year blow-out dance party set, which I'm shooting for a Thursday release to ensure our good friends in Australia get it in a timely manner (yes, I do think about everyone outside of the U.S. when scheduling releases). I'll send up the final two sets for the Top Dance Songs of 2021 after the first of the new year. Until then...ENJOY! Jingle Electric 2021 had a minor update. The transistion between 'What You Do To Me' by Sub-X and 'Don't Be Shy' by DJ Kuba was reworked using a trick I learned from the Peak Hour releases. While the two songs are in key, the percussive elements fought against each other. Employing the trick and shortening the transition gave it a smoother flow. Otherwise, the entire set has not changed. As Party Favorz heads toward the end of the year, we're kicking December off with our annual Jingle Electric series. It's been just over a month since we dropped HW21 and there hasn't been a whole lot of new releases but enough to compile a slamming set filling in the gaps with bootlegged classics and mashups. Several tracks that appeared on our last Peak Hour set Shiny Disco Balls in October have crossed over and exploded into the mainstream were included as well. Since there won't be a last minute Peak Hour set, some newer notworthy songs couldn't be allowed to gather dust and were included. Same with Disco House but in that case, I moved a few over to what would've been the next T-Dance set but it's not clear that's going to be released (we'll see). There's just not a lot going on that's grabbing us at the moment and most of it is the same rote Soulful House, which has hard to swallow in large doses. Ultimately, the final result of this year's Jingle Electric is solid if not stellar. I've been enjoying it all week long as it's filled with re-worked guilty pleasures and future dance floor gems. We'll be back next week with the annual Holiday Edition for the circuit boys. Until then...ENJOY! Album: Jingle Electric 2021 Genre: Dance, Club, House Year: 2021 Total Time: 03:37:58 1. Party Favorz is back with the annual HW series featuring all the latest Dance Club hits, bootlegs, mashups and classic dance tracks revisited and boy oh boy is this set a whopper! I was feeling out of sorts for several days and each time I attempted to sit down and put this together, I hit a roadblock right out of the gate. By Thursday, I sat down picked a starting point and just let the music move me. Though I've only created a one-stop set like this a couple of times before — this is the closest you'll ever get to listening to me live. With 200+ songs to go through, I threw tracks out on the fly while sitting for 4 1/2 hours going from one song to the next. The end result is pure magic! So much so, I even impressed myself at how well this set came out. Granted, there are a few songs (while not terrible) I could have left off — overall, I'm very pleased with the end result. The set kicks off with a remake of the Stevie Wonder penned classic 'Tell Me Something Good,' which was a hit for back in the seventies for Rufus & Chaka (Khan). This is one of those songs that should give anyone pause trying to remake. I will say that Ewan McVicar did an amazing job reworking it into a firecracker House track. I do question the unusually long build-up before the song picks up steam but it appears to have worked as it's sitting in everyone's Top 20 at the moment. [youtube v="PkP1qJlQzqg"] Once you get through the first track, it's all hands on deck and anything goes from there. This is a Halloween dance party worth remembering! I've already compiled the track list for the next Peak Hour set and will start working on that today. Until the next time...ENJOY! Party Favorz is back with the ultimate summer dance party to fuel the remaining days of the season and boy oh boy the Summer Melt 2021 is lit! When I sat down to compile this set list, it was coming up short and frankly a bit homogenous. There haven't been any late summer bombs released and the majority of it was already covered in the two-volume Catch-Up 2021 series, which dropped at the end of June. I had started building my set list for future Disco House and Peak Hour releases but after listening to the newer songs in there, I threw them all in with the Dance Club folder and just let the spirit move me. With over 200 tracks to choose from, I did this all on the fly and chose songs that just flowed making for one of the most diverse sets Party Favorz has released since maybe the annual Blow Your Own Horn series. There's a bit of Future House, EDM, NuDisco, House, Progressive House, and Tech House all fused perfectly in one seemless 4+ hour set leaving you with surprises at every turn. I made sure to include the latest bootlegs, mashups and updated throwbacks for some familiarity. In short, this is the defacto dance party to close out the summer. As we all know, August is Madonna's birthday month. Though we skipped last year's entries, we're on track to release a four volume set for you diehard fans this year. They won't all drop in time for her birtday but since the entire month belongs to Madame X, they'll be released accordingly. The plan is to hue closely to the original remixes (with a few bootlegs thrown in for good measure) that reflect her long career atop the dance music charts. We'll start with the 80's and then move forward through the various iterations of her ever-evolving styles up to current day. This will be the most comprehensive sets released by far featuring our favorite diva. I hope everyone is staying dehydrated because this set is gonna set the house on FIRE! As promised, Party Favorz is delivering a second slice of the year's biggest dance club hits with a smattering on new releases, bootlegs and newer club hits that are going to be fueling your summer dance parties. Let's get started. Anyone with a sense of musical history knows that disco has been all the rage lately but another sound people are missing out on is the resurgence of the 80's. Ahh yes, the soundtrack to my life has made its way into your life because...why not. Calvin Harris has been sidestepping his normal house music pop in search of a new sound. By Your Side (with Tom Grennan) reaches back into the annals of 80s pop with "By Your Side." While I have mixed feelings on this song it is making a lot of top ten playlists on Spotify so it could be grower. A more catchy 80's throwback with a lot of help from the 90's Punk/Pop supergroup Smash Mouth is from Timmy Trumpet. "Camelot" is another track making inroads and while the use of Smash Mouth might be questionable to some, the song does offer a catchy summer pop hook. Of course, Miley Cyrus has been all about the 80s this year and "Midnight Sky" is one of the year's best along with her duet on "Prisoner" with Dua Lipa (the queen of disco revitalization). The German record producer and DJ Boys Noize (Alexander Ridha) has been around for awhile and has produced some big names in music. His latest release with the help of Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters), is a definite 80's throwback complete with low-grade synths from the early part of the decade when New Wave was a thing. However, it's the Purple Disco Machine remix that takes "All I Want" to a whole new level. PDM delivers a sleazy disco groove with his Donna Summer (Love To Love You Baby) meets Barry White delivery making the song a sex-fueled dance floor pleaser that deserves a wider audience. [youtube v="1FljmNU5Zk8"] Another surprise is from the fantastic Dirty Disco who seem to have taken on a new direction in their remixes. From circuit to t-dance and now pop productions — the boys from Houston have taken the Olivio Rodrigo send off to an ex "Deja Vu," which thematically resembles Alanis Morrissette's "You Oughta Know" in its sentiment. They take the song and flip it with an happy pop dancefloor production taking the song to a whole new level. If I were on Rodrigo's team, I'd remix the original in this style and re-release it for another guaranteed #1 because it just works. Finally, you're going to hear two new tracks with very familiar samples that you won't be able to put your finger on. First up is Jax Jones "Feels" which sample the verse of the early 90s #1 pop/R&B hit "Can't Stop" by After 7. Jones adds a deep underlying bass house rhythm and slightly alters the vocals delivering a fun house stomper that's bound to pack floors. The other track is "Light Up My Life" by Jack Wins and Joe Stone. This also samples another famous track but it was driving me nuts until I finally figured it was Madonna's "Who's That Girl." The sample is very small but employed over and over creating a whole new song from what was likely a throwaway track from her "True Blue" session and later released as the lead single for the soundtrack to the epically bad movie of the same title. Even though the original went to #1, the album ended up in the cutout bends pretty quick. Bravo to Wins and Stone dusting it off and making something entirely original out of it. These two sets should pretty much complete your summer dance club parties but I'll likely drop another sometime in August to finish the season off with late entries. We still have our annual Beach House edition featuring the latest Disco House and Peak Hour, which I've already started compiling and the annual Summer Edition featuring the latest circuit anthems. Until the next time...ENJOY! Album: Catch-Up 2021 pt. 2 Genre: Dance, Club, House Year: 2021 Total Time: 03:19:38 1. Calvin Harris & Tom Grennan - By Your Side (Extended Mix)
Just in time for your 4th of July holiday parties, Party Favorz is dropping not only one of the most anticipated sets of the year but the only party soundtrack you'll need for the rest of summer. That's not to say that some mid or late July releases won't explode that haven't been introduced to the world yet because they always do and most certainly will. However, Catch-Up 2021 gives you the biggest dance club songs of the year that are still riding high on most people's Spotify playlists as well as newcomers that Party Favorz has handpicked to click with house music fans. As usual, we throw in some bootlegs and mashups to keep the party interesting and you won't find anywhere else but everything required for your summer recovery is included in these two sets. Did I say two sets? The musical landscape was so plentiful and diverse that it grew to an unmanageable size requiring us to split this year's entry into two volumes, which are 3+ hours of summer fun spread across both sets. There's a lot to unpack here but after previewing these sets over the past week — we can honestly say that we nailed it! We'll be back tomorrow morning with part 2 of the 2021 Catch-Up. Welcome to the 2021 edition of Summer Leap where Party Favorz anticipates some of the biggest dance club hits heading into the hotter months. It's the time for pool parties, the beach and a break from all of life's issues. This summer is a bigger deal only because many parts of the world are coming out of lockdown with more people getting vaccinated making it safer to go out and be amongst friends and (strangers). Sadly, dance music has a bit static with much of the commercial releases sounding the same and lacking in originality. That's not to say there aren't several great gems hidden amongst this 62 song set because there are plenty. This isn't anything new and I bitched about the same thing in 2015 when all the rave was "Deep House," which has gone back to its roots and turned into "Future House," which is now more like "Electro House" and is now just labeled Dance. The labels may change but the originality has stayed flat. Some of the better tunes (especially on the excellent Spring Break 2021), rely on past treasures by sampling the past while creating all new songs for the current generation of party-goers. There's not quite as much lately and that has to do with folks losing inspiration or holding back their work until everything fully opens up. There is one great remix by Purple Disco Machine that's about to drop on the 28th for a new song that's just okay but the remix takes it to another level. I'm expecting this song to explode this summer. I wont' say what it is but it will make an appearance on the 2021 Gay Anthems For a New Generation and the annual Catch-Up towards the end of June. Much of what's contained in Disco House and Peak Hour is beginning to bleed into commercial dance, which is fine. It needs the shakeup but don't worry — that's not going to effect those series. Ultimately, diversity is key to making a great mix but I'm only as good as the musical output at any given moment. I do want to mention that the app I was so proud of which had been working flawlessly through the spring is no longer working. It relies on the Microsoft scripts and there are several issues with it at the moment that are not getting addressed in their forums on Github. Ultimately, I'll have to school myself on hosting it myself for better reliability but since I'm self-taught, that could take awhile. I'll let everyone know once something is reliably in place. We still have a brand new Disco House and Circuit & Anthems releases scheduled for the coming week so be sure to subscribe or follow for the latest updates. Until then...ENJOY! Typically Spring Break (for me at least) came in late March and sometimes early April depending on the calendar year — it appears that many folks already had theirs. So, consider this a day late and a dollar short but we're limited by the amount of quality dance promos showing up in our inbox. Frankly, the wait was worth it because this set kicks ass! Spring Break 2021 is a combination of smoking hot tracks that have been riding high since February, classics tracks that have been updated for today's dance scene and several new entries trying to claim their spot on your phone heading into summer. With vaccination rollouts in full force — Party Favorz is anticipating a boom of new post-pandemic tracks to rollout by Summer (fingers crossed). That being said — our goal is to please and this set will definitely provide some sense of normalcy. Yes, it really is that good. Just so y'all know — I'm doing my best to keep everyone in the zone and focused on better days ahead. Rick and I got our second vaccination in late February but our routine has remained the same. To be honest, he needs to get his ass back to work outside of home because no love in the world can sustain itself in close proximity 24/7. Just sayin. I've already compiled the set list for a brand new Peak Hour set, which will be the perfect companion piece to Spring Break 2021 and will drop next week. That will be followed by the much-delayed Spring Edition 2021 featuring the hottest circuit anthems the following week. Until then...ENJOY! After working this set from three different angles and editing out 30 minutes of tracks in the final product — the Dance Club set for February 2021 has finally landed. Jam packed with the biggest dance hits, this set is the one y'all have been waiting for. I'm not going to go into too much detail here but I will discuss the inevitable remix for Olivia Rodrigo's massive "Drivers License." Unless you've been living under a rock — this song escaped all the other noise in pop music to top the charts for several weeks and rightfully so. With it's driving 80's synth and personal lyrics — Miss Rodrigo has become an overnight sensation. While there are no official remixes for this song — there are several stellar bootleg remixes. My choice for this set was unusual in that it doesn't fit neatly into the commercial Future House fair we see for this type of song. In stead, I went with newcomer (?) David Michael's "Late Night Drive" remix, which doesn't follow the conventional rule of short but sweet. His remix is an epic 8+ minutes long set to a simple house beat but the riff he uses will sound very familiar to most of you. It took me awhile to figure out that this was actually "The Promise" by When In Rome that was stripped of the synths in favor of the aforementioned house beat with a delicate touch of piano that's familiar to the When In Rome classic. Come to think of it, the original relies on an 80's synth to drive the emotional track and a modernized version of the instrumental version of "The Promise" would likely mash well together. The length of the song doesn't bother me at all. If anything, the build-up is well worth the wait. I'm certain that more conventional remixes for this song will appear in future versions of this series so no worries if this isn't what you're expecting. Another worthy entry is the closing Tears For Fears classic remake "Mad World" by Timmy Trumpet & Gabry Ponte. This is kinda of a New Trance/Bass House hybrid that stays true to the beauty of the original while modernizing the song in such a chaotic time. It really is quite spectacular and deserves more attention than it's currently receiving. The rest of the set speaks for itself as I painstakingly poured through countless promos to put this all together. I'm am currently on a roll and just finished the next Disco House installment set to drop Saturday. I'll be starting on the next Peak Hour set today. Until then...ENJOY! About this time in 2019, I was hospitalized with a burst appendix where I waited 48 hours to have an operation while they kept me hopped up on painkillers so they could run up the bill with unnecessary tests and then proceed to re-diagnose my pre-existing condition based on a MRI that can only be diagnosed through a lumbar puncture. That doctor went on to become the Republican nominee for the House and lost his ass in a major landslide. In fact, our entire district in GA flipped from red to blue all the way down to dog catcher. While I ripped him a new one (after the operation because I'm not stupid) and embarrassed the living shit out of him in front of his colleagues, I took some solace in the grifter's epic loss. Little did I know at the time that the new year was only going to get worse save that single glimpse of hope during the election. There's no doubt that 2020 will go down as one of the most memorable if not worst years on record. Surprisingly, dance music has been a shiny beacon atop the hill providing stability if not sanity. 2020 is the year of the Disco comeback, which provided a bit of escapism to the new daily routines that were mapped out by mother nature. Dua Lipa's "Don't Start Now" kicked it off to great applause that was quickly followed by Doja Cat ("Say So") and Lady Gaga ("Rain On Me"). Surprisingly, these songs and/or albums were already in the can before the pandemic hit and acted as a breath of fresh air for our current stale musical landscape. Talk about foresight. [youtube v="estW7sfx-8Y"] It was also the year that dance music became more reflective as songs like "ily (i love you baby)" by Surfa Mesa, "Secrets" by Regard & Raye, "Breaking Me" by Topic & A75 and "Looking For Me" by Paul Woolford, Diplo & Kareen Lomax stepped up to massive success where MEDUZA, Becky Hill and Goodboys left off at the end of 2019 with "Lose Control." For such a shitty year, dance music had a lot to offer in these sobering times. The Blow Your Own Horn series generally acts as the last kiss-off to the current year while welcoming the incoming one. Most of the year's biggest hits included in this set have been mashed-up with the octave level turned-up high. There's a few new notable tracks and bucket load of classics that have been juiced-up and reimagined with 10 servings of Monster drinks. The energy level is purposely high which should give rise to saying one final FUCK YOU to the year we'd sooner forget. I want to thank each and everyone of you who have continued to support our mission to bring you the finest in dance music — you mean the world to me. I wish you all a very healthy, happy and prosperous new year. Until next year...PARTY LIKE IT'S 2021 and ENJOY! We have reached the end of the Top Dance Songs of 2020 with volume 3 and it is glorious! This final volume has a more laidback feel overall and that's because many of the tracks included in these sets are pop hits that were never intended for the dance floor. Nevertheless, the songs are culturally important and resonate with so many people that its inevitable the label either commissions official remixes or aspiring DJ/producers remix the tracks for their own sets. You'd think that with everything on lockdown, their wouldn't be that much great dance club music but far from it. That's not to say that there was as much during the second half of the year but we still had more than enough to fill our typical three volume year-end series. If anything positive came out of 2020 — it would be musical styles in popular and dance music have started to give way to more diversity in their offerings. I realize that many of the songs in this series rely heavily on a formulaic Future House sound and the likes of Joel Corry, J Bruus, Colin Jay, Cosmic Dawn, Division 4 & Matt Consola, Ray Isaac, and Charlie Lane have perfected that sound but to their credit — they're serving up dance floor ear worms for tracks that otherwise would never get remixed. Probably one of the most exciting remixes this year was for WAP by DJ Ranny. Yes there were several unofficial remixes out there but none added to the excitement and party nature of the song. When Ranny sent his take over — I was bowled over as I immediately knew he hit a homerun! It's a shame it couldn't have been enjoyed more on dance floors across the globe because it was a surefire winner. [youtube v="9AWsTQh6DDQ"] I think Dua Lipa really tapped into something with the direction of music by digging into 70's, 80's and 90's Disco, Dance and House music to create a feelgood escape on her sophomore effort "Future Nostalgia." Doja Cat equally did a great job of keeping our heads nodding to a slinky disco beat. Don't be surprised if Madonna finally — after all these years of begging her — goes back to her roots and delivers a carefree album that taps into the energy of her debut album. In fact, I'll lay down good money on it. [youtube v="pok8H_KF1FA"] In the interim, I hope everyone is enjoying this mega time capsule of the year 2020 with all the good, bad and ugly this year will be known for decades to come. We have one more set to close the year out and I'll do my best to make it one roof-raising floor scorcher for all my party people. Until then...ENJOY! And the hits keep on rolling out! Party Favorz is back with volume two of the Top Dance Songs of 2020 and this one digs deeper. One of the constraints of 2020 is the pandemic resulted in clubs and venues to shut down. Billboard's Dance Club chart is based on select DJ responses to track and create that chart and without input — the chart was suspended in March. "Love Hangover 2020" by Diana Ross was the last song to top that chart back in March before its demise. Leave it to the queen to have the last word. While I use charts as a basis for compiling my year-end sets — they aren't the final word; rather a guide. Usually, I use a variety of charts that differ significantly like Billboard's Dance Club, Electronic Dance Music and Top 100 charts to compile these sets. This year, I added in Beatport (who no longer compiles an end of year chart for some odd reason), Spotify and YouTube plays as a basis for making my decisions. There is some consistency in that they all tend to agree on the top 10 - 20 songs but differ wildly from there. "Roses" by SAINt JHN (Imanbek Remix) has topped everyone's list. But, "Rain On Me" by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, "ily" by surf mesa featuring Emilee, "Ride It." by Regard, "Breaking Me" by Topic & A7S, "Higher Love" by Kygo and Whitney Houston, "Head & Heart" by Joel Corry X MNEK, "Secrets" by Regard & RAYE, and "Don't Stop Now" by Dua Lipa have been fairly consistent on most of their year-end charts. From there, everything wildly differs. [youtube v="2zToEPpFEN8"] That's where YouTube comes into play. I look at the total number of views for videos then cross reference the charts to base my decisions. Everyone can reasonably disagree on the inclusion of certain songs but Party Favorz attempts to hit all the high notes of the year as longs as they had a certain amount of impact on the listener. That and my own personal favorites will always be included. You'll also notice some carryover from 2019. Songs that were massive the previous year that still continued to chart and were in heavy rotation at radio or in the clubs (for awhile) and songs that were released in late 2019 but hadn't peaked until the next year but already had enough impact to be included on both year-end charts. Ultimately, I decide what gets included and frankly, you won't find a more comprehensive compilation for any given year in dance music than Party Favorz. My goal is to provide you a soundtrack to your life at any given moment in time. As a result, I always recommend you download and store these sets because 10 - 20 years from now, you'll be glad you did. Trust me. We have one more set to go before Christmas and I'll be discussing the DJs and producers that had the biggest impact on the dance music scene in 2020 and know — it wasn't anyone nominated for a Grammy (a useless aware if ever there was one). Until the next time...ENJOY! This set had a massive update because I was not happy with the final product. As Party Favorz winds down 2020 — it's time for our annual Top Dance Songs of the year non-stop dance music set(s). This series features the biggest dance hits of the year and this year really starts to shake things up. Not since 2015 has the year-end dance music chart been this diverse in its offerings. The entire dance music scene is finally beginning to shake loose from it's tight-knit structure to more loosely reflect a wider variety of genres. Nowhere is this evident than the resurgence of Disco. That's not to say that Disco music was the end-all this year but its reemergence hit at the right time. The 1970's and early 80's were considered a time of decadence and escapism from a downtrodden economy, long gas lines, high unemployment and Disco was the perfect escape to ease people's anxiety. Enter stage left Dua Lipa. Its been said that Dua Lipa's sophomore effort "Future Nostalgia" was an iffy proposition for the young singer as it didn't fit in with what was being played at radio. However, she wasn't interested in making another "New Rules" set of songs and just wanted to make people feel good. After a live session was leaked online, she was forced to release the album earlier than the original pushed back timetable due to Covid. The gamble paid off in a BIG way. [youtube v="oygrmJFKYZY"] "Future Nostalgia" received rave reviews (even from this writer) and was an uplifting breath of fresh air at a time when everyone had gone into lockdown. In short, it was just what the doctor ordered. Now she's received a record six nominations for "Don't Start Now" and "Future Nostalgia" — the gamble has paid off. Equally exciting is the continued acceleration of DJ and music producer Purple Disco Machine. Party Favorz has been excited about the German native's work and featured him in a Legacy series because it was evident the man was going places. As usual, I was right because he's literally been all over the place in 2020 and is now branching out. The future looks bright for for PDM and Party Favorz looks forward to the continued promotion of his work. In the next installment, I'll discuss the darker side of the year's biggest dance hits as well as the daunting task of compiling all the tracks that round out this set. I'm in a bit of rushed mood to get these out in time. It took a week to pull everything together and then narrow down the tracks that would be used. However, it took one day putting this first set together and should be smooth sailing from here on out. I'll be back on Saturday with volume 2 of the Top Songs of 2020. Until then...ENJOY! I want to give a HUGE shoutout to Joe S. for his generous donation. While donations are not necessary — they are always needed and much welcome. So a big XOXO to Joe! Juice WRLD's "Come And Go" was removed from this set. Not sure how it got there but it does not belong. The transition after "Say So" by Doja Cat was shortened. Party Favorz is on a roll ensuring all of your holiday stress gets worked out by the end of the year. Jingle Electric is our annual final Dance Club set of the year featuring the latest commercial dance hits. However, since releases have slowed down since the summer — I decided to merge elements of the Peak Hour series and a couple of Disco House tracks to flesh it out to what turned out to be one of the most ambitious sets released this year. It's starts our a bit moody with John Legend's "Wild," which in the capable hands of Meduza doesn't quite give that EPIC drive you'd expect but gives us an idea on how this song can be transformed by more seasoned remixers. It's still good and a solid opener to the simmering build-up that follows. Scour the list and the hits will stand out to you but it's everything in-between that's the glue holding everything together. There's quite a bit of solid Tech House tracks like Moreno Pezzolato's "Sexy Back" (yes, Justin Timberlake), Technasia & Green Velvet's "Suga," Bingo Players, Felguk & Fafaq's update of the Nomad 1991 House classic "(I Wanna Give You) Devotion," Kevin McKay & Milos Pesovic's "Work It" (yes, Missy Elliot), Afterman's party house update to the 1950's (yup) "Tequila" originally performed by The Champs and Moreno Pezzolato's "Lose My Breath" (yes, Destiny's Child) along with modern updates of Beyonce's "Crazy In Love" and Flo Rida's "Low." There's so much goodness here that I may have sapped all of the Blow Your Own Horn madness scheduled for release in a few weeks but I'll figure it out. [youtube v="XnpXYTJL5_0"] Perhaps one of my favorites in this group is John Summit & Guz's "Thin Line," which updates another 90's House classic "People Hold On" by Coldcut and Lisa Stansfield. This song is apropos for these dark times and with it's signature deep house groove is a perfect fit today's madness. Even with all this — Party Favorz isn't quite done yet. We've still got a brand-spanking new Disco House scheduled to drop this weekend before launching into our annual Top Dance Club Songs of the Year quickly followed by Blow Your Own Horn. Anyone thinking I'm just skating by needs to get their head adjusted because Party Favorz has become a 60 - 70 hour work week for this one man show. Weather looks mighty great for this coming weekend in the southeast and I hope things hold up where you're at. I'll be back this weekend. Until then...ENJOY! Party Favorz has been up all night working out a party mix to celebrate the end of fascism. The lies, the graft, the shredding of the Constitution, the misogyny, the xenophobia, the racism, the homophobia, the ableism, the lack of intellectual curiosity and the denial of science could no longer sustain itself before the American people had the last word. We still have more work to do in my home state of Georgia where we have two Senators that are in a run-off on January 5th. It's imperative we get Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock elected to give Joe Biden a running start to enact the legislation we voted him in for. With a Supreme Court conservative majority — they're teeing up the lawsuits that will effect everything from healthcare to LGBTQ rights. For those that don't understand our fucked-up electoral system — Republicans still have a path to override the will of the people. I'm not even going to entertain it because that would guarantee an outright civil war. For now, I'm here for the win and just want to celebrate the record number of people who came out to vote. Celebrate 2021 consists of six decades of party tracks remixed for today's dancefloor. There's literally something for everyone here. My only regret was having to leave so many great songs on the cutting room floor before this got out of hand. This set is being offered for free because I want everyone to enjoy the spoils of victory. ENJOY! This was done in one take and I haven't had the time to preview it. If there are any errors — let me know and I'll fix them. Album: Celebrate 2021 Genre: House, Future House, EDM, NuDisco Year: 2020 Total Time: 03:17:20 1. Party Favorz is back with the annual HW20 dance club edition featuring all treats and no tricks. This set is jam-packed with EDM, House Music, Disco House, Bootlegs and Mashups with just enough spooky fun elements to fulfill its title. The Spofitication of dance music I have to say that it's becoming more difficult to compile these commercial dance sets since the shut down of venues across the nation. Typically I rely on a variety of factors to create these sets. First, I look at Billboard's Dance Club charts to see what other DJs across the country are laying down, I look at Beatport and Traxsource charts to see where underground and disco tracks are crossing over, I peruse the Billboard Top 100 for those commercial hits that weren't necessarily created for the dancefloor but some enterprising up and coming DJ has generated a masterful bootleg of, I look at YouTube music trends and of course I look at the DJ services internal charts to see what are the hottest tracks everyone is jumping on before they go wide scale. Two other elements are my internal gut feeling about a song, which comprise about a 1/3 of all tracks included in a set and the Billboard Electronic Dance Music chart, which I have a love/hate relationship with. Much like the Billboard Top 100, this chart's rankings are heavily weighted towards streaming service plays form Spotify and Apple Music. The rest is based on sales and radio play both of which carry less weight. This has resulted in two things: 1) Many artists just release single after single generating buzz, play and revenue, while forgoing the traditional album release. In fact, boutique labels have developed a whole business model around this and many of these stellar tracks never make it into the DJ pool nor Beatport. 2) Bigger artists still put out albums because there's still money in sales both physical and non-physical. At the same time, they game the system by dropping everything at once flooding these charts with mediocre songs and a couple of stellar ones that may or may not even reach the top of those charts but still generates significant amounts of revenue for them. We've seen it with Drake and Chainsmokers. In particular, Chainsmokers are still a big draw but by dumping everything all at once, they end up with 12 songs on the Electronic Dance Music chart even though none are massive hits. It dilutes the chart and drowns stellar songs by new artists that struggle to break through. The other end of this is that the songs on this chart rarely get remixes unless someone creates a bootleg. In fact, many aren't really dance songs at all so the entire chart is a bit of a mystery to me. After all, everything today is quantifiably Electronic Dance Music. The two biggest breakthroughs of 2020 on the chart that had crossover success are Imanbek's remix of Saint Jhn's "Roses" and Surfa Mesa's "ily (i love you baby)" — the latter generating stellar Future House remixes, which helped propel the song further. But, these are the exception and not the rule. As such, most of these songs (and even the danceable ones) are more like radio edits and never get remixes. They're geared toward the Spotification of dance music for radio playback. Dance club music is on lockdown Because labels are commissioning fewer and fewer remixes as a result of the pandemic and the reason the Dance Club chart is shut down (because it relies on DJ feedback based on live plays) it makes sense for them to focus on where they're going to get the biggest return on their investment. A good example of this is Ariana Grande's "Position." Her new single is okay and is likely a loss lead for her new album being released today. That's never stopped her label from investing in a boatload of remixes for her releases but as of yet — there aren't any except for a few poorly executed bootlegs. On the opposite end, Ava Max's label released a whole new set of remixes for the stellar "Kings & Queens,
Party Favorz is kicking the Fall season off with the biggest and best dance club tracks out at the moment. This retains the similar formula of previous releases where you get the latest dance tracks, bootleg remixes of past dance classics and familiar samples of from past monster hits. It's all here. I have been inundated with internal and external issues lately forcing me to run a little behind. While everything on the sit is running great — Google has very specific criteria for what they feel is an optimize website and keep changing the goal post. The search results for Party Favorz had been dropping steadily so I've had to make a ton of changes on the back-end to make this site Google-friendly — especially for mobile. Never mind that this site scores 98 on all other metrics and is blazing fast — Google wants developers to squeeze every last ounce of juice from your website predominantly for people still on 3G networks throughout the world. While not necessarily my customer — when it hurts my rankings and bottom line — I've got to step up to the plate to meet their challenge. The work is almost complete but you may experience some slow down over the next 24 hours while I finish up on the back end. All I'll say is that the changes I'm making are already having a major positive impact so I know I'm heading in the right direction. Anyway, that's the gist of everything on the internal and the external issues are not your concern. Just know that I'm on top of everything and releases will continue to flow from here on out. Party Favorz is back with Meltdown 2020 containing the hottest dance club songs of the summer. If you've been searching for the one true party mix to light your fire — then you've arrived at your destination. The resurrection of a goddess — Tina Turner After having massive success with the resurrection of the buried gem "Higher Love" by Whitney Houston — Kygo is back again and sweetened the pot. He's reinvigorated the Tina Turner mid-80's monster classic "What's Love Got To Do With It" and turned it into a reggaeton summer monster. It's not clear if Tina (at 80 years old) was involved in this project but it seems likely. There are some runs in this version that were not part of the original release unless they were part of the original acapella in the masters vault. It doesn't really matter because he dusts this track off and gives it a modern-day spin that would put it in contention for song of the summer. [youtube v="TNYGLMQxZ64"] The newest and hottest dance club songs Surf Mesa and Emilee have heated up the Electronic Dance Charts with Ily (I Love You Baby), which is a rework of the original Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons hit, which was turned into a #1 disco hit by Boys Town Gang, a #1 Dance Club song by Pet Shop Boys and a soothing hip hop twist by Lauryn Hill among many others. Here, Topic turns their laid-back version into a dance-floor ready house number. Other personal treats here for your summer listenting pleasure are Sammy Porter's "Evissa, You & Me," HOSH, 1979 and Jalja's "Midnight (The Hanging Tree)," Vize and Tom Gregory's "Never Let Me Down," Purple Disco with Sophie and the Giants "Hypnotized," Alesso and Liam Payne's "Midnight," and the return of Toni Braxton with the help of Dave Audé on her funky "Dance." [youtube v="VbQqV8_Ykow"] As predicted, Gorgon City and Soffi Tukker's "House Arrest" is topping just about every DJ list out there, while Gorgon City isn't letting up and just dropped "Nobody" with the indie group Drama. This is going to be another massive song but more so for the dub version included here, which takes the original and gives it that deep house mystique GC is known for. Wait until you hear the Sam Girling Tech House mix, which is slated for the next Peak Hour set and takes the song to a whole new level. [youtube v="tK_HwUAVZrY"] Perhaps the one that's really got me sucked in is Kenzie and Sia's "Exhale." The Hook n Sling remix on this is pure perfection and will certainly raise the temperature on any dance floor already boiling over. As of this writing — there's only a radio version but no extended nor remixes of this fantastic song but it's HOT and gonna be BIG! [youtube v="2xFE-aAlqXI"] Bootlegs and mashups that keep it interesting As part of our continuing expansion to diversify and keep these sets firmly grounded in the party realm — There are a number of bootlegs, mashups and classic reworks contained in Meltdown. Weiss and Harry Romero take on Alan Parson's Project with "Where Do We Go" using the catchy refrain from their "Games People Play," Block & Crown take on Madonna with a sizzling house floor rework of "Like a Prayer" with their "Pray For More" update, Robin Schulz updates the massive Bob Marley classic "Sun Is Shining" for a summertime blockbuster, Kideko and Armand Van Helen take Gwen Guthrie's disco classic "Keep the Fire Burning," speed up the vocals to give us a modern-era twist with "The Fire," and perhaps the most puzzling of all...Nora En Pure and Lika More update the Phil Collins monster classic "In The Air Tonight." The attempt here was something Zhu would've have done with the song but at a slower tempo to retain the darker elements of the original. I understand the reasoning for bumping up the BPM by Croatia Squad and it took me awhile to fully appreciate it but the song itself is so pertinent to what's going on on the streets of America that this version is a welcome addition to this set.
Party Favorz is back with a mid-week dump that's bound to fuel your parties through summer. The annual Catch-Up series features the biggest Dance Club songs from December through June. Either the tracks topped most DJ charts or are personal picks that racked up millions of views on YouTube. Even with Billboard Dance Club charts on current hiatus — the method they use to rank their songs is seriously flawed because it all depends on what type of venue the DJ's report from that determines their popularity. That's where our expertise in picking the hits comes in. Dua Lipa leads the pack for best dance club songs of the year I say this only because there were several really dark and not exactly overwhelming songs that topped that chart earlier this year. Most are included save one. Party Favorz pulled from Beatport charts, YouTube tallies and personal picks, which puts Dua Lipa ahead of the pack. Her "Don't Start Now" reached #2 on the Top 100 and #1 on the Dance Club charts and has been hovering in the Top 100 for over 33 weeks making it not only a contender for one of the biggest songs of the year but of the summer. Due to the pandemic and her inability to tour and promote her new and highly underrated album "Future Nostalgia," the label has been furiously releasing track after track and commissioning remixes for them to see what sticks. "Physical" and "Break My Heart" (currently climbing the charts) are pure pop pleasures and the remixes that have accompanied them are stellar. Purple Disco Machine leads the pack for best DJ of the year Another DJ that shows up a lot here is Purple Disco Machine. There's not doubt that his brand of throwback Disco House is striking a nerve among dance enthusiasts making him one of the most in demand DJ's in the business. Party Favorz would like to think we had a hand in his success when we released "Catching Up with Purple Disco Machine" back in 2018 realizing that this guy was the one to watch. As usual - we were right. Songs of the summer All the contenders for "song of the summer" are contained here including Doja Cat's irresistible "Say So" (which we picked back in March to hit big), DaBaby and Roddy Rich's "Rockstar," Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage," The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights," Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande's "Rain On Me," Drake's "Tootise Slide," Justin Bieber and Quavo's "Intentions," Roddy Ricch's "The Box," Post Malone's "Circles," Harry Styles "Adore You," SAINT JHN's "Roses," and many more. All your favorite club bangers from the past 6 months are here and we dropped the personal favorite "Good Time Girl" by Sofi Tukker mainly because it was released last year and was given new life as the opening theme song for "The New Pope" in favor of the brand-spanking new track "House Arrest" with Gorgon City. This song has shot to the top of every DJ playlist and rightfully so. It's a Deep House thumper with a catchy rhythm backed by Sophie Hawley-Weld's hypnotic vocals. This song is truly a delight in the current minefield of mediocre releases. [youtube v="z-3bC2MT9xw"] If it seems I've been pushing the latest from Alex Newell "Boy, You Can Keep It" — it's because the Tracy Young remix is simply a delightful summer cocktail of fun coupled with the perfect vocal styling of Mr. Newell. This song would undoubtedly be sitting at the top of Billboard's Dance Club charts if this covid shit hadn't messed everything up. Just know that there's plenty of Disco House in this set to offset the darker moments from earlier in the year. If you're into commercial dance music this is the set you're gonna wanna grab because it's got it all. I've got the annual Beach House set for release late next week just in time for 4th of July. While it hasn't been started yet — expect something a little different this time around. Until then...ENJOY! Every year during Gay Pride, the question "what constitutes a gay anthem" has been asked and answered in countless posts about the subject — even on this site. Party Favorz wants to break it down so "others" can have a better understanding as to why certain songs attract gay folk like flies to honey. By quoting the 2002 book "Queer," Wikipedia gets it mostly right but goes off the rails in other areas: The lyrics of gay anthems are often marked by themes of perseverance, inner strength, acceptance, pride, and unity. Ten elements were identified by the editors of the 2002 book Queer, which they claim describe themes common to many gay anthems: "big voiced divas; themes of overcoming hardship in love; "you are not alone;" themes of throwing your cares away (to party); hard won self-esteem; unashamed sexuality; the search for acceptance; torch songs for the world-weary; the theme of love conquers all; and of making no apologies for who you are." -Gay anthem from Wikipedia They go onto list a variety of songs that they think are written down in the gay annals of history with many of them being so off the mark that it leaves us scratching our head in bewilderment. Party Favorz even gets a mention (without mentioning us) when they list "Lady Gaga's "Born This Way", and Ariana Grande's "Break Free" (both of which are included here) considered as gay anthems for the new generation. Sound familiar? That's only a tacit acknowledgement of Party Favorz' contribution to the LGBTQ+ community but we'll take it. THEMES OF A GAY ANTHEM The book "Queer" provides the definitive list of the types of songs that meet the criteria for a gay anthem: First and foremost "Big-voiced divas" are a given. The women with massive vocal pipes are typically the first one's inducted into our big gay tent (see Whitney, Ariana Grande, Aretha Franklin, Kelly Clarkson, Adele, Sia, and P!nk). Even then, they may just be a persona, an image or style that reflects our personal choices but may not necessarily have the best vocals (see Madonna, Britney, and Kylie) Other times they may be a combination of both (see Cher and Lady Gaga). Overcoming hardship and love You are not alone Throw your cares away Hard-won self-esteem Celebrating unashamed sexuality Search for acceptance Torch song for the world weary Love conquers all No apologies As you can see — the qualifications are endless but never without reason. All these themes are explored one way or another in this 5-hour set, which features modern-day gay anthems as well as past anthems reworked for today's dance floors. While by no means complete — I dare you to find anything remotely comprehensive than what's contained here. THE MAKING OF A GREAT GAY ANTHEM There is one underlying theme that should immediately appear apparent when you browse the track list. That is the inclusion of an overly abundant remixes by DJ Barry Harris. Aside from his record-breaking work with Chris Cox as part of the Thunderpuss duo from the late 90s to the early Millennium — Barry has expanded his reach to gay and straight dance floors across the globe with his keen sense of taking songs and literally transforming them into monster anthems like no one else currently in the business. Just look at what he did with "Rise Up" by Andra Day, which is not only pertinent to the Black Lives Matter protests currently overwhelming the globe but to the every day struggles of the LGBTQ+ community. The man is a living icon and his contributions to the dance floor and to our lives deserving of recognition. FINALLY Given the uncertainty of the future of Party Favorz — we've gone back and reworked or expanded our most popular editions that will hopefully leave a lasting impression with listeners for decades to come. We hope that you enjoy this ultimate guide to gay anthems for the modern era and continue to support our efforts until we can longer carry the torch.
Welcome to the Summer Leap 2020 where Party Favorz features some of the biggest Dance Club songs that will be permeating your brain throughout the sizzling summer months. WHAT'S HOT NOW As usual, this set features alternate versions of previously featured tracks like the super hot "Say So" by Doja Cat, which I had already picked to be one of the biggest tracks of the summer. While the hot temps are already here — summer hasn't even officially begun and yet this song has been perched atop the Billboard's Top 100 for a couple of weeks now. With its funky, feel-good disco build a slew of remixes have finally been commissioned for it with the Division 4 & Matt Consola version featured here. We've got an amazing mashup of The Weeknd's massive "Blinding Lights" with Otto Knows "Million Voices," which was perfectly executed by DJs from Mars. The classic electro house track "Let Me Think About It" by Fredde Le Grand and Ida Corr get's a modern era rework and even Mr. Probz massive "Waves" from a few years back gets its own special treatment by J Bruus & James Jay. Saint Jhn's "Roses," which has been sitting atop Billboard's Hot Dance Electronic Songs finally gets some floor-friendly remixes with the Imanbek remix featured here. Kelly Clarkson surprises with a new and unexpected new track "I Dare You," which under normal circumstances would be galloping it's way to the #1 spot on the Dance Club charts. Alan Walker puts out a sequel to his 2016 hit "Alone" with Ava Max doing vocal duties aptly titled "Alone pt.2" and the superb collaboration between Major Lazer and Marcus Mumford (of Mumford and Sons) "Lay Your Head On Me" is so exquisite that even I'm surprised out well Mumford's vocals translate over to EDM in this soon to be summer smash. [youtube v="MltBRchhd70"] THE PRINCESS OF POP I want to talk about the elephant in the room — Dua Lipa. The woman has released what should have been her breakthrough album "Future Nostalgia" in the U.S. Folks, this is a solid album from the pop princess and while "Don't Start Now" has been a smash by any standard, the subsequent singles "Physical" and the more recent "Break My Heart" are not getting the attention they deserve. Most of this is due to the fact that she can't go out and tour to promote the album until (hopefully) January 2021. Party Favorz is in awe of Miss Lipa and frankly she's poised to take over Rihanna's thrown (who is not likely conceding anytime soon). Please support her music and album by streaming it on your favorite platform — it's totally worth it. Equally, Halsey has been putting out some stellar tracks lately like "You Should Be Sad" and more recently "Be Kind" with Marshmello that are getting buried by the multitude of releases by Drake on the Hot 100. It's gotten to the point of ridiculousness. Yes, we love Drake and his excellent "Tootsie Slide" is featured here but seriously, dumping his entire album onto the charts simultaneously is really a shitty strategy that performs a disservice to other emerging artists — especially when a majority of those songs never break past #20 on the charts and drop off om rapid succession. Welcome to the age of streaming where artists are forced to put it all out there at once to make their money back no matter how good or mediocre it is. In addition to her collaboration with Alan Walker, Ava Max has an excellent new single out "Kings & Queens," which has some fantastic remixes accompanying it. Last month, we featured the Danny Verde remix on the Spring Edition 2020 and here Cosmic Dawn (who's resurgence is most welcome) does the honors. Demi Lovato's outstanding "I Love Me" is another track not getting the attention it deserves but Zac Samuel created a fantastic Future House remix of the track that was worth of inclusion. Party Favorz doesn't waste time with Tik Tok but apparently BENEE featuring Gus Dapperton have made quite a splash on the platform with Supalonely,
Welcome to Spring Break 2020 featuring the top dance club hits that under normal circumstances would fuel your beach parties but these aren't normal times. At this point, all students are getting an extended spring break but are either breaking the rules (see the photo attached to this post) or are going stir crazy locked up in their apartments or parent's home. Party Favorz has the cure for your pandemic blues and went out of our way to not only give you the hottest dance club tracks riding high at the moment, but a slew of what we think will be some in the running for songs of the summer. Too soon you say? Nope. Songs currently in contention are Camila Cabello's "My Oh My," Ladi Rosa's "Ain't No Taylor Swift," The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights," Lady Gaga's "Stupid Love," Meduza featuring Shells "Born To Love," Demi Lovato's "I Love Me," Dua Lipa's "Physical," and Doja Cat's irresistible "Say So" among others. We usually don't pull tracks that have been serviced to DJs in the original form with an intro/outro because usually the BPM is too slow for these sets but have made an exception given the current circumstances to give everyone more entertainment value. Don't worry, I made it work. With over 3 hours of non-stop top dance club hits there's enough variety here to keep your attention span from drifting while fueling your at-home workouts. UPDATED CLASSICS STILL TRENDING As has been the case for the past several sets, DJs are digging in the crates and updating classics (many of which go on to top the charts). Sometimes they use the original vocals, other times they pluck someone new to sing it, while other times they're sampling familiar beats (to me and many of you) and turning them into new songs. In fact, some of these songs will likely end up our annual Gay Anthems for a New Generation set in June. This set features Erasure's "A Little Respect 2020," AZ2A x Keepin It Heale's "Genie in a Bottle," (Christina Aguilera), Sound of Legend "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" (Eurythmics), Kelis vs. Diplo "Milkshake," Klass "Mr. Saxobeat," Gala "Free From Desire," where the original 90s version was just included on the The Ultimate Eurodance Collection volume 2 from the 90's, ABBA vs. Freekack "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), and Cheesecake Boys "Funky Monday" which riffs off the New Order classic "Blue Monday." Hell, even 80s teen idol Debbie Gibson is back with the new song "Girls Night Out," which is currently sitting at #4 on Billboard's Dance Club chart and likely to hit #1 in the next few weeks. PERFECTION TAKES TIME If you wonder why it took me so long to get this set out it's because we've been culminating tracks for at least six different sets scheduled to be released through the first week of April. I've also got a brand new Thank God It's Disco dropping during that time and you can expect some old school Diva Hall of Fame entries coming on the heals of that — one of which many of you are going to pee your pants over. Yes, I know I'm a cock tease but I like to leave a little mystery so y'all keep checking back. I've also got a list of current divas who are going to be inducted but they likely won't drop until sometime in the summer since they ALL have new releases out. IT'S THE CORONAVIRUS NOT THE MACARENA I am imploring everyone young and old to please take this pandemic seriously. For all those who think they're immune because they're young — testing is showing that y'all are making up a disproportionate amount of those infected. Even if you only have mild symptoms or none at all, you still pose a risk to your friends with compromised immune systems, your parents, your grandparents and complete strangers you don't even know. The Party Favorz motto has ALWAYS been to party, have fun but just be responsible about it. Not just for your safety but that of others. I haven't lived a perfect life and this picture was me back in the day but we weren't dealing with a pandemic either...
Party Favorz is FINALLY dropping our first non-Stop top Dance Club mix of 2020. I generally find that releasing anything too early is generally regurgitated versions of top dance music that was already building momentum going into the new year with a few new entries. By waiting a bit longer, the overall releases begin to slowly drip out giving Future Nostalgia something new and fresh overall. I was surprised at the dark tone of many of these songs heading into 2020. It's not bad per say — but I'd prefer a brighter and happier tone. Perhaps it's the mood of the country in these dark times in this divisive election year. All I know is that folks could really benefit from some uplifting house music. Hopefully, they'll start rolling out before the Winter Music Conference in Miami. Then again, their award nominations are absolute bullshit where they pay homage to many unknown talent or has beens over and over each year. It's nauseating. THIS IS WHERE IT'S AT Overall, Future Nostalgia features a diverse offering of great music but there are two tracks that I've been all over since their release (okay three). The first is "Good Time Girl" by Sofi Tukker featuring Charlie Baker. One of my go-to shows at the moment is HBO's "The New Pope." They've always intertwined current tracks into this satirical take on the papacy and this year's opener is the latest groove by the college besties. The opening credits feature a bunch of nuns dressed in see-through nightgowns grinding and undulating before a glowing cross. Each opening scene is different but features the same pulsating and hypnotic song. I literally never get tired of it. While their low-budget video has garnered over 4 million views on YouTube, Ultra Music has not serviced this track to DJs nor released any accompanying remixes, which I find odd. This is a hit through and through and should be force-fed to radio and clubs globally. Yeah, it's that good. The other two tracks are Madonna's "I Don't Search I Find," which currently tops Billboard's Dance Club charts. There's a plethora of remixes that were commissioned for this song but it's the late entry from Kue that's got me wound up. He takes the track and underscores it with a sleazy disco grind that gives the song more urgency. In fact, I think this should have been the original conception for the song. The closest comparison would be Giorgio Moroder's production of Donna Summer's "Love To Love You Baby" without the 1,000 orgasms. Purple Disco Machine takes a similar approach with his rework of the Mark Ronson and Yebba collaboration "Don't Leave Me Lonely," which hits all the right notes. DUA LIPA Dua Lipa is one of my favorite artists at the moment. She can actually sing, works with the best writers and frankly is virtually being ignored at radio in North America. Her work exemplifies a woman who takes chances and has her pulse on what's the "next big thing." As the label is testing the waters for her follow up singles in different markets with "Future Nostalgia" and "Physical" (no not the Olivia Newton-John monster that topped the charts back in the early 80's), I've included versions of both but keep your ears open because there are stellar remixes out there other than the one's included here. Overall, I'm happy that I waited to release this set but you can definitely expect the massive Spring Break set to drop by the end of March with all new material. Next on tap (which is already in the can) is the next Disco House (formerly Funky House) set. This takes a decidedly cosmopolitan turn and all you disco freaks (like your humble host) will be pleasantly pleased. Expect that to drop by the end of next week. That will be followed by the next Underground House set the following week for which I've already compiled the tracks. This is going to be one hell of a party set so make sure to keep an eye on our feed. We're finally getting a break from all the rain (and some snow) we've had all week long with ...
It ain't 2020 until Party Favorz drops the final year-end dance club set that rocks the house! For the uninitiated, the annual Blow Your Own Horn series features some of the biggest dance club tracks of the year reworked as massive dance floor bangers to keep the party going. This year's set is no different but I've thrown in a little funky twist here and there as a preview of what's heading your way in the new year. If you're wondering why I'm only now dropping this set — it's because I spent the last week of the year in the hospital with appendicitis. The tracks had already been compiled and just needed to be mixed. Even after I got out, I had several issues that prevented me from focusing and getting the job done. Better late than never. I do plan on taking the next couple of weeks off to finish recuperating and will reemerge with the final sets of the Essential 80's Dance Mix, at least a couple of Legacy entries and something out of leftfield that will fit in nicely with the Trash Disco series. Then, I'll start rolling out fresh sets from our most popular series like Dance Club, Circuit Tribal House, Funky House, and The Underground in February. I didn't create an intro like I normally do for this set and just picked a track and moved on from there. It heats up by the third track and is fairly relentless from there. There are tons of never before heard bootlegs and mashups in this set to keep your mind, body, and soul engaged. If this isn't your cup of tea — then I highly recommend the Year In Dance 2019, which features the more palatable commercial dance club tracks of the year. Also, it appears I forgot Ariana Grande's "7 Rings" for which I had several great candidates for this set but shit happens. I'll give this set a B+ compared to previous efforts only because I haven't had the time to preview it. If there are any mistakes, it's up to you guys to point them out so I can go back and fix them. There shouldn't be but it occasionally happens during the export process. Until the next time...ENJOY! I want to give a MASSIVE shoutout to our good friend Anthony for his overly generous donation. I wasn't asking for money when I posted on Facebook about my health issues but that money helped pay for a lot of copays and was more helpful than you'll ever know. Thank you so much! We have finally reached the end of the Year In Dance series with Volume 3 featuring a non-stop mix of the Top Dance Club Songs of 2019. THE EMO-FICATION OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC With few exceptions and the trend to a happier Disco sound as discussed in Volume 1 of this year's recap — the overall feel in electronic and club music is generally fairly dark. A lot of the music has been emo fied even when its original format is aimed at the dance floor. In fact, the biggest artist of the year Post Malone has made an entire career out of it. With one of Malone's biggest hits "Circles" capping off the end of this set — it pretty much sums up the entire genre. There's nothing wrong with that and the moodiness of much of the music squares well with the current generation that's growing up in a tumultuous time. That's not to say any of these songs are political — because they aren't. The very issues that affect the mood and mindset of the current generation like gun control, global warming, student debt, ongoing wars, racism and on and on are sadly missing in today's music. From the Boomer rebellion of the 60s to the GenX political activism of Punk Rock, New Wave and Alternative Rock from the 80s and 90s — the very issues that stress the current generation of Millennials and GenZ are sorely missing. Instead, everything is about feelings and relationships. This isn't meant to be interpreted as criticism but merely an observation. We know you guys give a shit about these things - so bare your soul in the music and frankly open it up to true Rock 'N' Roll again. More than anything, it's the big corporate labels that need to get with the program because I'm banking there's a massive underground market somewhere waiting to be exploited. Granted, there's always room for all types of genres and styles from silly love songs, personal testimonies to fun carefree disco and political discourse in our music. They just haven't figured out how to make it work because the music industry as a whole, is run by a bunch of mindless clone machines. I digress. IT'S ALL ABOUT DANCE MUSIC If you haven't figured it out yet, Party Favorz (more specifically me writing in the 3rd person), is a walking encyclopedia of popular music. I've devoured it ever since I was a kid. As you well know — Party Favorz is about escapism and having a good time. It's about perking you up during those long commutes to and from work, it fuels your workouts, it's the soundtrack to your pool parties and gatherings with friends and it's likely the thing that gets you pumped while getting ready to go out for a night on the town. If you've found other creative ways to make use of these mixes — I'd love to hear them. For better or worse, the songs included in this year-end retrospective of the dance club music scene represents the best and worst (but still hugely popular) dance songs of the year. Unlike the rigidity of the charts — Party Favorz attempts to pull all dance club music of relevance that is released throughout the year. Always remember to store these mini-time capsules in a safe place in the cloud. 10 or 20 years from now you'll be glad you did. I'll be back on Saturday with the annual Blow Your Own Horn series, which will help everyone bring in the New Year in one giant roof-raising party mix. Until then...Merry Christmas, Happy Hannakua, Happy Kwanza and Happy Holidays. ENJOY! Album: Year in Dance 2019 Volume 3 Genre: EDM, House, Dance, Club Year: 2019 Total Time: 02:27:58 1. Party Favorz is back with Volume 2 of our annual non-stop mix Year In Dance featuring the top Dance Club hits of 2019! Even with the shifting genre tides in dance music, there's always room for some darker songs that breakthrough and become monster hits in their own right. FISHER's surprise hit "Losing It" was released in July 2018 and then had a steady rise to the top of Beatport's dance charts where it ruled for over a month. Shortly after — it made a steady climb up Billboard's Dance Club charts finally nesting the number one spot last year. Spurring a mass amount of mashups and bootlegs, the song was so popular — it ranked again as one of the top tracks for 2019. It was an unlikely candidate for such a monster hit but the infectious deep beats and repetitive refrain just stuck to our brain like superglue. FISHER followed that up with the equally dark "You Little Beauty" which samples (once again) the fabulous Loleatta Holloway making it his second #1 dance club hit. You could say he's had a very good year and a half. One of the most mesmerizing and infectious dark tracks of the year is "Piece Of Your Heart" by Meduza featuring Goodboys. This song is an earworm that burrows into your brain and takes up residence while on repeat. Meduza followed up this monster hit with the same song but this time featuring the added vocals of Becky Hill in a reworked version called "Lose Control." That version also topped the charts later in the year. I'm not certain, but this may be the first time two different versions of the same song topped any chart — but, I could be wrong. HOT DANCE ELECTRONIC SONGS The artwork for volume two of the Year In Dance features the top Hot Dance Electronic Songs Artists. This is a chart that I only muse with passing interest as it usually has some overlap with the Dance Club charts but is geared more towards streaming, YouTube plays than anything else to compile its listings. In fact, Billboard has multiple sub-category charts under this, which frankly is redundant. This particular chart is important in that it features top songs that fare poorly on the Dance Club chart but often have more uptempo House versions that accompany them. Marshmello appears to hit all the charts (including Top 40), while The Chainsmokers frat boy electronic dance music generally rules this chart, sometimes Top 40 but not Dance Club. The chart itself is often stale and lists songs that are over a year old — generally because of their ongoing streaming numbers. Since a few of the Top 10 artists in this category never crossed over to Dance Club or were riding high from last year's releases — I threw out three of them out and picked up three more from the Top 15. From left to right there's Kygo, Ellie Goulding, Avicii, Martin Garrix, Calvin Harris, Marshmello, Swae, The Chainsmokers, Bastille, and Bebe Rexha. RIP AVICII One of the greatest DJ/producers of the modern era passed away. Avicii was a genius whose music moved millions of people on dance floors and festivals worldwide. Never content to rest on one style of music, he continued to experiment and even brought in folk music to create giant songs like "Wake Me Up." The song "Levels," which samples the vocals of the fabulous Etta James is a masterpiece in electronic dance music that will live on through the ages. He will be sorely missed. Party Favorz is currently working on the third and final volume of the Year In Dance and expect to have this out on Monday. I've already begun compiling mashups, bootlegs and roof-raising tracks for the annual "Blow Your Own Horn" and hope to drop that Saturday of next week. Until then...ENJOY! Album: Year in Dance 2019 Volume 2 Genre: EDM, House, Dance, Club Year: 2019 Total Time: 02:15:05 1. Tiesto & Mabel - God Is A Dancer (Extended Version) 2. Benny Blanco feat. Halsey & Khalid - Eastside (Charlie Lane Remix) 3. CamelPhat & Jake Bugg - Be Someone (Extended Mix) 4.
Party Favorz started right at the time the presidential elections began to heat up as Democrats narrowed their choices down to Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John Edwards in 2007. Three elections and two presidents later, we're still here right after the impeachment of (not my president) Trump. During this period, Party Favorz has been part of the revolution in technology like gigabit internet, the iPhone, file sharing all the way to music streaming services. We've also witnessed the evolving trends in dance club music later coined EDM (Electronic Dance Music), which frankly — most of it has been since the 90s but has its roots in the 70s (Donna Summer "I Feel Love"). DISCO IS BACK We're literally on the precipice of coming full-circle and as predicted, Disco is making a comeback in a big way. While Future House, Electro House, Reggaeton, Moonbatan, and Trap have been the mainstays over the past several years and often merged into one another — the eventual return of Disco was inevitable. Indeed, it never went away but was buried in the underground scene and relegated to a select group of tastes that considered themselves connoisseurs of the genre and eventually slapped it with its own new label "Nu Disco." Call it what you want, but it's still Disco. HOW WE DECIDED WHAT SONGS TO INCLUDE For the uninitiated, the Year in Dance series is a compilation of the top Dance Club tracks of the year. In deciding what makes the cut, Party Favorz pulls from Billboard's Year-End charts in Dance Club Songs, Hot Dance Electronic Songs, Hot 100 Songs, and I pull a several of my personal favorites from the year that deserve to be included. Billboard allots points to songs based on the number of weeks they remain on their charts. Typically, it's one point a week, bonus points for entering the Top 10, and then they're assigned higher point values for each position they hold in the Top 10. It's entirely possible that a song that never even hits the top of any of their charts still ranks high for the year due to longevity on the charts. Much like the Academy Awards, there's a cut off date at the end of November of each year. Because Party Favorz understands people's memories align with when a song is getting heavy rotation in clubs or dance radio, we also pull from the charts leading up to the last week before Christmas. For instance, Tiesto & Mabel's "God Is a Dancer" just hit the top spot today and is included. As a result, it's likely you'll notice the same songs hit our year-end retrospectives two years in a row. Ariana Grande's "Thank U, Next" was so massively popular that it generated ongoing club and radio play through the first half of 2019 despite peaking in 2018. Other tracks that are included are massive songs on the Hot 100 that may or may not even chart on the Dance Club chart but are so popular — they generate a plethora of authorized and bootleg remixes. It would be blasphemous to leave these tracks out because of the demand for them on dance floors and the overall impact they have on popular culture. If we're going to paint a complete picture, their inclusion is mandatory. DANCE CLUB ARTISTS OF THE YEAR Speaking of Ariana Grande, she was the top Dance Club artist of the year. In fact, the top 10 Dance Club artists are featured as the cover art for this first volume. they feature, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Madonna, Kendra Erika, Ava Max, Mark Ronson, Bleona, Fisher, and P!nk. I disagree with two of them, but points gave them that position so who am I to argue. I'm expecting a total of three volumes to round this year-end series out with another hopefully dropping on Saturday. For better or worse, these are the biggest Dance Club songs of 2019. ENJOY! Album: Year in Dance 2019 Volume 1 Genre: EDM, House, Dance, Club Year: 2019 Total Time: 02:05:24 1. Ariana Grande - 7 Rings (Division 4 & Matt Consola Remix) 2. Calvin Harris & Rag'n'Bone Man - Giant (Mark Jay Remix) 3.
As Party Favorz counts down the days before we enter into the third decade of the Millennium — we continue to deliver the goodie bags to make your holidays more enjoyable or at least bearable. In keeping with tradition, we're dropping the annual Jingle Electric, which features the biggest Dance Club hits of the moment and some that will be heading into the new year. For those that caught my teaser on Facebook, which referenced the comeback of disco, let me just say that I may have oversold it but not really. The first true sign of a resurgence is Dua Lipa's massive "Don't Start Now," which is the first mainstream attempt of injecting disco into its formula and it works in spades. In fact, DJ Barry Harris predicted a resurgence of disco in a recent post to his Facebook account. He would know because he gets commissioned for a lot of mainstream artist remixes and he's clearly reading the same signs that I am. "Don't Start Now" had a bevy of remixes commissioned by the label that accompanied its release. Labels do this to guarantee a hit for all tastes and it shows that they're testing the waters. While there a few really solid Future House remixes of this track, the one that tops every DJ's list is the remix by Purple Disco Machine (featured here). You may remember that Party Favorz was the first to feature a Legacy set of PDM's work in late 2018. Ever since I heard his remix of Hercules & Love Affair's "Do You Feel the Same" in the HBO series "Looking," I was hooked. Fast forward a year later and PDM is everywhere and in high demand. I'm not saying that this site alone pushed him into the stars but I'd like to think that we (I) had a helping hand in his success. Additionally, Sam Smith dropped a remake of Donna Summer's techno-disco classic "I Feel Love," which is blowing up just about every dancefloor around the globe — gay and straight. The track is apparently a promotional tool for Target but I wouldn't know because I don't have cable. Honestly, who cares because this song is the fucking bomb! To be fair, lead singer Jimmy Sommerville of Bronski Beat fame got there first as far back as 1983 but we're talking about a 4-decade old song that was ahead of its time when it was released and is now being reintroduced (I might add very respectfully) to an entirely new generation. In addition, there are other disco tracks in this set Jax Jones and Year's & Years "Play," which is given the PDM treatment as well as the fabulous "I Don't Need Love" by Karen Hardin & Wh0, where Mark Knight and Michael Gray perform the remix duties. Taken in total, expect to be hearing more of this and less Reggaeton, Moonbatan and likely even Trap as we get into the summer of next year. YOU. HEARD. IT. HEAR. FIRST. All of my praise for the changing tides in popular and club music shouldn't discourage anyone that's a fan of the current club music landscape. The overall feel of this set is still Future House and club-friendly versions of your favorite pop songs. We even have some notable remakes like "Silence" by Sylvain Armand, which was a massive hit for Delerium and Sarah McLachlan back in 1999 after DJ Tiesto got his hands on it. We also have "You Gotta Be" by Bombs Away with Reigan, which is a remake of the #5 pop hit by Des'ree from 1994. That track actually came out in April but got buried by the simultaneous release of "Back To Life" by Hilary Roberts, which went to top the club charts. "You Gotta Be" is only now climbing the charts but as good as it and the accompanying remixes are — it's not clear how well it will do but definitely worthy of inclusion. Since I can't give a point by point review of all the great tracks included in this set (many of which will be featured in our upcoming Year In Dance multiset series), I'll let everything speak for itself. I will be back next week with our final Circuit Tribal House set of the year — the annual Holiday Edition. Until then...ENJOY! Album: Jingle Electric 2019
Party Favorz really dug in yesterday to deliver the epic 40-song non-stop dance music club podcast HW19 featuring the latest club hits from the biggest hitmakers of the moment. Many of these tracks are hot off the presses and you'll likely be hearing them in your local club for months to come. As usual, I like to put my own spin on these sets with fresh reworks of classic tracks from decades past. There is no shortage of classic cuts in this set featuring "Dancin" by Aaron Smith and Luvli, "Say My Name" by Damon Hess (Destiny's Child), "Cold Rock A Party" by Richard Grey & Lissat (MC Lyte and Missy Elliott), "I See You Baby" by Groove Armada, "Work It & Lose Control" by Missy Elliott, "Feel What You Want" by Kristine W, "Call On Me" by Eric Prydz, "Rock Your Body" by Justin Timberlake, and the obligatory Halloween favorite "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. Each of these tracks has had new life breathed into them by the various remixers who've given them a fresh new perspective. I really wanted to get these all out by Friday but things kinda slipped away from me but better late than never. Technically speaking, Halloween isn't until Thursday and you can enjoy these sets without all the spooky noises and typical filler (i.e., gimmicks) employed by other DJs in their sets. With my birthday rapidly approaching on Saturday, I wanted to give a shout out to David J. and Keith M. for their generous donations that helped cover some unexpected expenses this month including a pricey new DJ service (but worth it) and Billboard's new charge for access to their charts (which pissed me off). As it stands, we're back on track. I plan on updating volume 2 of the Essential 80's Dance Mix as I noticed two breaks within Taylor Dayne's "Prove Your Love" with a third for the outro. I'll need to re-edit the track and check for anything else I may have missed. Sorry for the continuous need to to update sets but it's unnerving for me to not fix something — especially when it's a definitive series like this. I've already mentioned two Legacy entries on tap but I may expand that to four. It depends on whether I have enough of these two artists to make it work so I'm not saying who they are just yet. I'll let it be a surprise that many of you had asked for in the past when and if they do pop-up. My goal now is to get out the updated version of volume two of the Essential 80's Dance Mix followed by volume 4 sometime this weekend. Until then...ENJOY! 2019 has already set the record for the hottest temperatures ever recorded in the history of mankind and it's only going to get worse. Party Favorz is here to help you say goodbye to summer with one final BIG FUCK YOU to global warming with Summer Farewell — our end of summer blow-out dance party! Summer Farewell 2019 is jam-packed with the re-works of the summer's biggest hits like "Old Time Road" by Lil Nas & Billy Ray Cyrus, "Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish, and "Truth Hurts" by Lizzo along with current favorites "Someone You Loved" by Lewis Capaldi, "Higher Love" by Kygo & Whitney Houston, "Senorita" by Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello "Beautiful People" by Ed Sheeran & Khalid and the slow burner that's been getting its share of bootlegs and mashups that perched the #1 Dance Club charts several months ago "Piece of Your Heart" by Meduza & Goodboys that's been twisted and mashed by flexible masters of mashups DJs From Mars. We've got a ton of new tracks worthy of keeping your ears and eyes on because you'll be hearing them soon in your local club as well as classic reworks like "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2 and "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley courtesy of the master mixer Kue as well as "Missing You" by Everything But the Girl, "Anthem" by N-Joi (which has a lot of folks reworking this 90's house classic lately), "Finally" by Ce Ce Peniston (always a house favorite), and "Return of the Mack" by Mark Morrison amongst others. In short, we (meaning I) kept this set fresh, interesting, original and most importantly diverse to keep your attention. On a more serious note — there is so much shit going down across the globe that Party Favorz wants to make sure that you know we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Russia, UK, Venezuela, Brazil and especially Hong Kong. Keep up the good fight as the United States will ultimately find ourselves in the untenable situation where we have no other solution but to take it to the streets and burn this shit down. If I could sue this administration for the whiplash-inducing degradation of health care, human rights, the environment, voting rights, gun safety all the while sowing the seeds of disinformation and divisive politics along racial lines — I most certainly would. Enough never seems to be enough with this administration and its lackeys. If you don't like my politics — feel free to fuck the hell off. I hope everyone has a fantastic Labor Day weekend and for those of you in Florida — please stay safe. Until the next time...ENJOY! It's that time of year where I bring you the BIGGEST dance club hits of the Summer with Summer Beach Party which is one giant non-stop fun-filled package. I actually had a lot to say about this set but Rick is being an asshole, which is what happens when you've been together as long as we have and start to get on each other's nerves. So, I'm just going to let this set speak for itself. I think I'll just take a disco nap, get up and shower, get my hair cut and then take in a movie by myself. Since I'm sick of superhero movies, monsters and piss-poor comedies that aren't really funny, I think I'll take in Rocket Man. That's about the only speed I can handle at the moment. I do want to thank Paul S., Keith M., Anthony S., and Daniel L. for their generous donations — they're always appreciated. I should be back next week with the annual Spring Edition featuring the hottest circuit tribal house music at the moment. The week after, I was thinking I might put together a nice vocal house set. You don't too much in that area these days but there's been enough over the past few years to scrap something together that I think a lot of you will like. Until then...ENJOY! It's time for the annual Catch-Up! Just in time for the summer season, this series allows you to catch up with the biggest dance club hits of the year. As an added bonus, I've thrown in some newer tracks that are just now gaining momentum and will likely soon be everywhere. Ariana Grande is the clearcut winner for the most hits with "Thank U, Next" carrying over from last year along with "7 Rings," and "Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored." One of the most striking trends I'm seeing is the classic-pop remakes. While sampling past hits have been a staple of artists going back to the 90's, remaking full tracks has not. In this set we have a total of 5 remakes that include: "Self Control" by Kendra Erika (originally a Top 3 hit for Laura Branigan in 1984), Hilary Roberts "Back To Life" (originally a #1 hit for Soul II Soul featuring Caron Wheeler in 1989), "Fired Up" by Jade Starling (originally a #1 dance club hit for Funky Green Dogs in 1996), "The Rhythm of the Night" by Sean Finn & Corona (originally a #11 pop hit and #1 dance club hit for Corona in 1993 who re-sung the vocals for this release), "I've Been Thinking About You" by Klaas and Londonbeat (originally a #1 pop and dance club hit for Londonbeat in 1989 who re-sung the vocals for this release), "Bittersweet Symphony" by Gamper & Dadoni featuring Emily Roberts (originally a #1 pop and alternative hit in 1997), and "Jump" by Van Halen and Armin Van Buuren (originally a #1 pop and rock hit in 1984). The one that did not make the cut is "You Gotta Be" by Bombs Away featuring Reigan, which was originally a #5 hit for Des'ree in 1995 but didn't quite capture the essence of the original. This is quite a grab bag of influences artists are delving into as they represent a wide variety of genres. At the end of the day, a great song is still a great song. I realize this set has been a long time coming but it's finally here and there is enough to fuel your parties through July before I start dropping some new dance club on you. I'm currently wrapping up the annual installment of Beach House and will start working on the next Underground House set shortly. As you can see, there's plenty in the works. Party Favorz is dropping the most eagerly anticipated release of the entire year — the 2019 edition of Gay Anthems for a New Generation! For the uninitiated, this annual series features some of the most iconic gay anthems from decades past that have been reworked for today's club music scene. From Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" to Gloria Gaynor's eponymous 1979 disco empowerment hit "I Will Survive," and everything in between — these songs are not only instantly recognizable but stand the test of time. I managed to throw in some personal favorite house classics that have been reworked as well as current hits to keep the whole set fresh and timely. When I started this series in 2016, I wasn't sure how it was going to be received. After all, the originals (which can all be found in various compilations under the Gay Anthems sub-heading) are what folks fondly remember. However, Party Favorz demographics range from 18 - 60 years old (if you can believe it). Taking something old and making it new again is where it's at and the reception to this series has been nothing short of phenomenal. I've had to reshuffle my release schedule because I'm still waiting on a hot off the presses release from one of our favorite production duos. This is a song that's never been done before but everybody knows oh so well. You can expect a couple of Pride Legacy series to drop sometime next week once I get the track in my greasy palms. I want to dedicate this set to Bishop Tobin @ThomasJTobin1, Franklin Graham @Franklin_Graham, Pastor Greg Locke @pastorlocke, and Father Kevin M. Cusick @MCITLFrAphorism who if it weren't for their tireless dedication to suppressing my life and voice while covering up the abuses I suffered as an altar boy — I wouldn't be here today denouncing the closeted, self-hating assholes they are. I spent most of the day yesterday slowly working on pulling this set together — that is when I wasn't going down the Twitter rabbit hole. I have to say, it was difficult enough dealing with what amounts to radio edits for many of the official full-length mixes but there's a new twist in town. Certain DJ's who will go unnamed have been cutting off the outro of their mixes. At first, I thought they were pulling the tracks from sets but the more I started to see it — the more I realized this was intentional. There's no breakdown just a slow repetitive plodding that never reaches a conclusion then all of a sudden just cuts off. I don't know if this some DJ's thinking they are so beyond creating these mixes or they want to challenge others to come up with creative ways of mixing in and out of the tracks. I don't use fancy mixing software that has a slew of effects for transitions and frankly — other than in a club (where most folks don't notice), I'm not a big fan of getting all cutesy with transitions unless absolutely necessary. Otherwise, they're just annoying and don't really display any skill on the part of the DJ. I liken it to a whole new generation of folks with short attention spans — but I'll digress. I combed through the finished product an hour ago then mastered and encoded it. The end result is some of the finest dance-club tracks already in your clubs and a whole bunch more that will soon be. You'll also notice a bevy of classic tracks reworked for a new audience but with either different singers or the originals reprising their roles. No need to list the names as they will be very familiar to you just by reading the track list. Summer Leap is exactly what it implies. It's all the hottest dance-club hits that will take us well into summer. We're in that stage where we go from cooler temps to summer-like temps to heavy rain and tornadoes, then cooler temps then back to warmer temps all in a span of a month. This will continue through May before Summer finally gives in and things really start heating up. Of course, that doesn't stop Party Favorz from enacting our own brand of global warming before the actual season fully kicks in. If it's still snowing, or cold and rainy where you're at — just know that summer is right around the corner and this set will put you in a better frame of mind. Until the next time...ENJOY! Party Favorz is finally back with volume 2 of the Spring Break 2019 edition to help you get your party on with the hottest dance club hits from around the globe. Once again, we've got it all jammed with genre favorites from House, EDM, Future House, Deep House, and NuDisco. I like mixing it up to keep things interesting. Since Mueller dropped his final report on Friday, pretty much everyone has been on edge about its contents — including myself. I've been going down the Twitter rabbit hole where a lot of folks or second-guessing what's contained in the report but have come to the conclusion that we'll have to wait as nobody really knows. I'm also starting to notice many in the Democrat party drawing partisan lines that could be damaging to our unity going into 2020. You have the woman faction dumping all over men, blacks dumping all over white folks and religious lefties dumping all over those of us that remain staunchly secular. Then you have the wannabe pundits and journalists angling to get on one of CNN's heated debate segments who clearly have their own agenda in denigrating candidates that are gaining a lot of momentum. To be certain, it's a mixed bag and one that I've personally participated in. All of this anxiety-inducing raucous is making me reconsider injecting myself into these partisan groups — oftentimes from folks I highly respect. It's almost like high school all over again. So, I've decided to step back and allow all these folks to get the shit out of their system. It doesn't mean I won't comment on things that I find atrocious, but I'm stepping away from the partisan bitching going on within our own party. We have an outstanding group of candidates running, with clear front-runners, a couple of sleepers that have a lot of potential to disrupt, and a few messianic candidates who will likely be revealed as the empty shells they are during the debates. In short, something for everyone. I think a lot of these candidates will be whittled down to a handful heading into the primaries in 2020. With all that said, I want to dedicate this set to @riotwomennn because I do believe it's time we have a woman's perspective running the country. It just shows that we can disagree on minor issues but at the end of the day will unite behind a common cause. I wanna give a HUGE shoutout to those of you that have donated to help me renew our hosting service. David J., Patrick S., Anthony S., Casper Y., Ludovic D., your are very much appreciated! Continuing with the fresher direction I've been taking EDM Dance-Club series, Party Favorz is back just in time for your Spring Break party fun! This features all the latest dance hits, with bootlegs, mashups and old favorites reworked for the newer generation of club-goers. There a good mix of EDM, House, Deep House, Future House, and NuDisco to keep things interesting. All tracks were handpicked by me to ensure high octane and maximum fun! In an important sidenote — Party Favorz host renewal plan is coming up faster than I anticipated. It actually needs to be renewed on April 4th. Consequently, now is the time for donations to cover my costs to continue this podcast for the remainder of the year. It would be nice if all the backbenchers got off the sidelines and donated at least $5 to help keep this site afloat. I'm counting on you folks to make it happen. I've already personally covered the costs of the new theme and redesign of the site earlier this year — so it's on you to keep things up and running. I thought I'd throw out this unexpected surprise several days early. Electric Dreams is a compilation of the biggest Dance-Club tracks at the moment along with some re-worked pop classics from decades past. The end result is truly a wet dream of some of the finest house music to come out in a long time. What's nice about these tracks is that most of them come in a variety of flavors from Future House, Funky House, Electro House, and straight up House that my options were nearly limitless. I took the variety option and mixed it up to keep it interesting. You can expect alternate versions of some of these songs on future compilations. Until the next time...ENJOY! Party Favorz is back with the ultimate New Year's dance party mix, Blow Your Own Horn 2019. This annual series started back in 2013 as a showcase of some of the finest bootlegs, mashups and party tracks from the year as well as year's past. It's meant to be one final kiss-off to the year that was while welcoming in the new year to come. Over the years it's evolved into a massive set with some of the best party tracks from the past making it the must-have set for those celebrating with friends closer to home. I have been bogged down this past week troubleshooting issues with the credit card payment processor for donations. I've since disabled it and pushed it out to the new year. If there's one thing folks that follow this podcast know about me is that I'm anal about every minor detail. This isn't so minor, and it really irritates the hell out of me when I pay $$$ for things that don't work, and the developer blames it on another developer's plugin, or my theme, or anything but them. I've performed all the standard troubleshooting to no avail, and they won't be able to help until after the 1st. That being said, you can still donate using the PayPal option, which also accepts credit cards if you don't have an account. My focus had to be getting this final set out in time. As you can see, I'm a day late and a dollar short but the wait is worth it. Blow Your Own Horn 2019 was way harder than previous efforts. I don't know if it was because I was multi-tasking two completely separate things or that I'm worn out after running a marathon of mixes since Late October. While I have not previewed the entire set yet, what I have heard so far has left me pleased. I think ya'll are really gonna love this! 2018 has been a tough slog trying to get through the daily minutia and Individual 1's constant barrage of self-serving lies, I mean tweets on a continual basis. Life is much easier when you don't follow much news or politics, but willful ignorance also leaves us without the knowledge to fight for change. At the beginning of 2018, I originally planned on shutting down Party Favorz, but I persisted and forged on. I'm glad I did. Frankly, I run this site by the seat of my pants coming up with one idea after another. Many of you have made suggestions for sets that I ultimately tackle, while others need more consideration. Regardless, it's a group effort, and I appreciate the input. For now, I plan to keep the doors open at least through mid-April when my hosting expires. If I create a fundraiser for renewing my host, then you know I'm in it for the long haul. That has yet to be determined. In the interim, I want to thank EVERYBODY from the bottom of my heart that donated to my efforts to bring you what I think is the best (or at least one of the best) dance music podcast that is going into its 12th year. Your loyalty means more to me than I can possibly express. I hope everyone has a fun and safe New Years. I'll be back sometime in mid to late January with brand new sets and a whole new look. Until then...ENJOY! I just spent the last two hours troubleshooting issues with Wordpress that wouldn't allow me to post. Obviously, it's been resolved but you kinda get an idea as to the fresh hell I go through on a regular basis through no fault of my own. SMDH. Well, folks, I did it! I've been running a marathon since November trying to stay on track in whipping out these dance music time capsules. We have reached the end with part 3 of the Year In Dance 2018. I have to say that at the very least, 2018 has been a good year for Legacy artists. Think about it, Toni Braxton, Barbara Tucker, Crystal Waters, Donna Summer, and even Diana Ross all had number one dance club hits this year. Diana actually had two. While I couldn't work in Barbara nor Crystal, everyone else made the cut, though I only went with Diana's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" to close out this set and skipped the "I'm Coming Out/Upside Down" medley. On paper, it may have sounded like a good idea, but the execution was awkward, to say the least. We had a few breakout artists from last year that continued to have great success (i.e., Dua Lipa, Cardi B, and Camila Cabello) but there weren't really any BIG new names to speak of. Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato had a great year with their offerings but as a collective — the year was just okay if not underwhelming. More than anything, 2018 was the year of the DJ. Legends like Eric Kupper, MK, StoneBridge, Barry Harris, and Dave Aude continue to generate big hits. In fact, David Guetta (who now falls into the legend category) has been busier than ever with a slew of releases this year — with more hits than misses. Tiesto's music machine continues to churn as well. However, the up and comers are beginning to dominate. No doubt you were dancing to one of the many Jonas Blue tracks this year along with Marshmello and Zedd (who can claim the song of the year with "The Middle"). Of course, the DJ/producer Party Favorz has his eye on is Purple Disco Machine. While he can be a little formulaic, we're starting to see him branch out and I fully expect bigger things from him to come. Nevertheless, his star continued to rise in 2018 with releases like "Dished (Male Stripper)" and his reworking of the Fat Boy Slim classic "Praise You." At the very least, he appears to be our only hope for a modern-day disco revival. Time will tell. "EDM has been sad, slow songs for years now, Doesn't have anything in common with the music I love to make. 2010-2014 EDM was more house-influenced to me. Anyway now I'm out the bubble and making big records with amazing singers that sound like house music to me." One of my favorite quotes of the year comes from the very talented and prolific Calvin Harris. In response to a tweet from a fan who asked: "Will you be going back to EDM at some point?" Harris replied "EDM has been sad, slow songs for years now, doesn't have anything in common with the music I love to make. 2010-2014 EDM was more house-influenced to me. Anyway now I'm out the bubble and making big records with amazing singers that sound like house music to me." His response was dead-on. To expand on his assertion, electronic dance music is nothing more than a label. With the advent of keyboards and synthesizers, it started in the late '70s. By the time the '80s rolled around, the overwhelming amount of music being produced was electronic. The technology continued to improve through the '90s and is now so common that up and coming DJ/producers start creating at a young age in their bedroom with software on their computer. At the end of the day, it's all still house music. Harris' response that it's "sad, slow songs" is referenced in my first post. The Reggaeton, Moonbatan, and Trap have become so bogged down in monotony, that the tracks are almost undecipherable. The kind of music Calvin likes to make is what I and many others want to hear. Something that lifts you up and makes you want to dance! Party Favorz is almost done for the year — save for our year-end blow-out party set "Blow Your Own Horn 2019," which will be dropping this coming Friday. I hope everyone has a great holiday. Until the next time...ENJOY! Album: Year in Dance 2018 pt. 3 Genre: EDM, House, Dance, Club
As we count down the days to Christmas, Party Favorz is on a tear remembering the year that was in dance music. The Year In Dance 2018 part 2 keeps that promise by delivering even more of the BIGGEST club hits of the year! Recently, one of our followers messaged me and asked if I used radio edits in my mixes. My canned response was a bit dismissive when I stated flatly "that I did not." The truth to that lies somewhere in the middle — to borrow a phrase from one of the biggest tracks of 2018; let me explain... With the rise of streaming services, music is in the process of becoming Spotified — especially dance music. This started back in 2009 when Mariah Carey released her bomb "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" album. In an effort to save it, Sony commissioned Jump Smokers to remix the entire album, which resulted in a hit and miss collection of dance tracks that had no extended versions — basically radio edits. While the album was ultimately shelved, a couple of the tracks made it onto the internet, and much to the dismay of DJs were not mix friendly. Slowly but surely, the release of so-called "dance remixes" was more like edits without the intro and outro. Fast-forward to 2018 and more than 1/3 of remixes are that way. Why? Because Spotify is nothing more than a glorified radio station on demand, without advertising. It's designed for quick listening and then moving on to the next track. Honestly, nobody wants to sit and listen to 2 minutes of intro and outro in a radio environment — so, in a way this makes sense. The problem is that this leaves DJs with a dilemma. Either we serve up the music folks want to hear or abandon favorite songs strictly for mixing purposes. To be specific, it's tricky but workable. There are still many dance remixes that clock in longer than the average of 3:30 that can be matched up with the edits. It does kinda suck the joy out mixing, but you work with what you got. Granted, this is not always the case and is more common in the commercial dance-club scene than say Underground House, Funky House, and Circuit-Tribal music. The other issue I've noticed is that several labels have turned themselves into automated dance music manufacturing machines that go straight to Spotify or Apple Music. In other words, their business model is not based on selling music but the number of streams they can generate. I stumbled on this during the summer when some folks were streaming by the pool some really great dance tracks that I've never heard. When I asked what they were playing, they said it was a Spotify curated list of club music. As good as these tracks were, they will never be serviced to DJs for playback in clubs, which is a shame — but I wholeheartedly understand their reasoning. If I had one complaint, it's that Spotify does not allow dance music podcast like Party Favorz onto their platform — even though, I provide something they clearly are not delivering. What I do competes with their carefully curated playlists. With new technology for them to be able to identify the artists, titles and music publishers from a non-stop podcast like this one, these folks could get an additional revenue stream and greater exposure while adding more value to Spotify's streaming user base. I personally think it's a win/win for everyone involved — but I digress. As Party Favorz is about to embark on our 12th year of providing high-quality, carefully curated dance music podcasts, it would be nice to get a little recognition from the leading players in the streaming industry for the work that I do to bring this music to the broadest possible global audience. Especially after approximately 5 million streams or downloads throughout that time. I don't do any social promotion and would likely have a more substantial following on Facebook if I did. However, the numbers I generate, speak for themselves, especially on a global level. With that said, I've decided to keep plugging along through 2019 with a complete websi...
