Are you ready for The Ralph Kepple Story? So much is about all those years at East Lake, of course, but there is far more to the man than his legendary run in Atlanta.

"CLARENCE CARTER SLIPS AWAY ON THE MYSTERY TRAIN"When we speak of the deep soul drenched days when certain performers inhabited a heart full of soul so captivating and special that they were ordained as high priests of mournful and lustful magic, we will always recall Soul legend Clarence Carter.Clarence boarded The Mystery Train today, May 14, following struggles with prostate cancer and a battle with pneumonia and sepsis. He was 90.This blind Southern star from Alabama scored two Top 10 hits in the late 1960s and early 1970s with “Slip Away” and “Patches,” After having hits on the R&B charts (including 1965's “Step By Step” and 1967's “Tell Daddy”), Carter landed on the pop charts – as well as, concurrently, the R&B lists – with 1968's “Slip Away,” a song that highlighted Carter's powerful and emotional baritone voice with a lyric in which the singer implores his married lover for a secret rendezvous Two years later Carter released his biggest pop hit, the Grammy-winning (for Best R&B song) “Patches,” which rose to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Mr. Carter also recorded a number of raunchy novelty songs eschewed by mainstream radio but finding success in later years: The 1968 “Back Door Santa” was sampled by Run-D.M.C. for the 1987 single “Christmas in Hollis,” and the even more explicit “Strokin'” from 1986 was featured on the soundtrack for Eddie Murphy's 1996 remake of The Nutty Professor as well as in William Friedkin's 2011 film Killer Joe.Sleep Well Clarence. The first of the six covers that appear on Please Please Me is a mid-tempo ballad called “Anna (Go to Him),” which was written and first recorded by Arthur Alexander. Chances are that most people who hear the version sung by John Lennon have no idea who Arthur Alexander is—but the Beatles certainly knew, and so did the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan: Alexander is reportedly the only songwriter whose tunes have appeared on studio albums by those three hallowed acts. Elvis Presley recorded one of his songs as well—albeit one that Alexander co-wrote—and so did Otis Redding and Tina Turner and Jerry Lee Lewis and Percy Sledge.Don Covay recorded for several labels, including Blaze, Sue, Big Top, Fire, Arnold, Fleetwood, Columbia, Epic and Scepter, releasing 'Popeye Waddle' b/w 'One Little Boy Had Money' in 1962 for Cameo Parkway, which became a hit.Don was, by now, recording solo material, and material under the name of Don Covay and the Goodtimers. He penned the U.S. number 1 single 'Pony Time' for Chubby Checker, wrote a hit song called 'I'm Hanging Up My Heart for You', for the Soul singer Solomon Burke, and wrote for Gladys Knight & The Pips, penning 'Letter Full of Tears', which made the top 20.Don formed partnerships with several associates including Horace Ott and Ronnie Miller. In 1964, when he signed to the Rosemart label. His debut single there with the Goodtimers, 'Mercy Mercy' featured Jimi Hendrix on guitar. The following year, Jimi Hendrix played again on the follow up single 'Take This Hurt Off Me' b/w 'Please Don't Let Me Know'.Clarence Carter didn't have it easy while growing up in Alabama; and being Black and blind was an extra burden, but he has overcome many other obstacles in so many ways. “I feel incredibly good about what I've been able to accomplish, but it was not easy. Our world presents challenges and barriers to success for people with disabilities, but I always wanted more in life and believe that the ADA helped me get to where I am today.”I would like to say that Carter now has three “B's” behind his name, Black, Blind and Blessed. Carter is known for serious Blues music, which includes a string of R&B hits. The songs “Back Door Santa,” “Slip Away,” “Patches,” “Too Weak to Fight” and the dance hall hit “Strokin” are part of his Blues legacy.

En resa dag för dag Tillsammans med vår expert Roger Nilsson går vi djupare än någonsin. Have you ever walked through something hard—maybe a tragedy, a really heavy season, or even just a stretch where you're juggling more than you can carry—and someone looks at you and says, “Let me know if you need anything”? You smile. You say thank you. You mean it. And they mean it!!! But deep down, you already know… you're not going to let them know. Not because you couldn't use the help but because you don't even know what you need. And even if you did, you're not sure you have the energy to explain it, ask for it, or coordinate it.There are moments in life when everything feels heavier than usual. Not always in ways you can explain—just an undercurrent of restlessness that swirls in your chest, a mental fog you can't quite clear, a weight you've learned how to carry without naming. And in those moments, something in you goes quiet—not because you don't feel cared for, but because you don't feel met.Read the full podcast notes at cleerlystated.substack.com

Följ med på den kaotiska resan genom Phonograms drastiska censur, sanningen bakom de "fula" tyska bokstäverna. Det är fult, det är klumpigt, men det är ren och skär rockhistoria. A new podcast?! You bet! Longtime golf course superintendent (and general manager) Charlie Fultz tees off his entertaining and irreverent new series with industry friend Paul Hurst.
Four years after her first appearance on Chip Lunch, Aurelia is back—and she's been busy.Since we last heard from her, Aurelia's been studying law and psychology at UNSW, shocking rats in labs (ethically, she promises), hiking glaciers in Iceland during snowstorms, attending a future leaders intensive at Cambridge, and spending six months studying transnational law at King's College London: a dream she's had since she was 17.This conversation is full of surprising tangents. It opens with a 10-minute deep dive into the trolley problem , moves into why KFC chips are terrible, and eventually lands on chicken salt and vinegar, Aurelia's chip preference, which she's been committed to since childhood fish-and-chip Sundays after church. But beneath the laughs is a thoughtful reflection on what it means to be a Christian studying law. Tim introduces the Hebrew concept of shalom, bringing wholeness and rightness to the world, and suggests that even writing wills brings shalom by ensuring the right people get the right things and honouring a person's intentions. Aurelia takes that idea and runs with it, realising that good lawyering, across corporate law, acquisitions, or litigation, is about bringing the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. The travel stories are spectacular. Aurelia describes submitting an assignment 15 minutes late after throwing up all night from exhaustion at Cambridge, then presenting anyway because she refused to let it ruin her graduation celebration. She talks about hiking a glacier in Iceland at sunset during a snowstorm, visiting her grandfather's childhood home in Rotterdam without maps because she joked she'd "just know the way," and taking communion for the first time at a tiny English-speaking church in Amsterdam. And then there's King's College London—a dream Aurelia had at 17 that she'd forgotten about until she randomly checked her uni emails (rare for her) and saw an opportunity to study transnational law. She applied on the last day, got accepted despite being one subject short of the credit requirement, and spent six months studying with professors who are military advisors, UN court specialists, and leading experts in marine insurance and international institutions in crisis.

In this episode, Eric Stark breaks down the #1 mistake people make when upgrading an RV toilet: assuming the new toilet will connect the same way as the old one. The floor mounting is usually straightforward, but the water supply connection is where most upgrades get hung up—different fittings, different angles, and sometimes a water line that needs to be replaced or adapted. Eric also covers what really matters when choosing a replacement toilet (spoiler: it's not the brand name). You'll learn the measurements to check before you buy, including the bolt spacing and the “back-to-wall” clearance that can make certain upgraded models sit too deep or not fit at all. Plus, listeners are invited to share what black tank treatments have worked best for them, and Eric wraps up with a look at new Camco sewer hose fitting upgrades designed to make hookups easier and more reliable. As arguably the single most important, most influential group in pop music history, The Beatles have been honored with thousands of cover versions. This week, Uncle Gregg, Brett, and Third Lad Arthur Alexander hand pick some of the fabbest and gearest of 'em all. 101 episodes ago, power pop hero Arthur Alexander joined us to recount his fascinating life and career: growing up in Communist Poland, getting exiled to the U.S., and being a driving force in two of the NYC's seminal power pop bands - The Poppees and Sorrows - before putting out his fine solo records One Bar Left and ...steppin' out! He was one of our favorite guests yet, so we were ecstatic to have him join us for this topic that is near and dear to his heart. Big Stir Records presents Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow, the long lost thrid album by NYC power pop legends SORROWS, recorded in 1981 during a one-night session at the peak of their energy. This final chapter in their musical legacy includes the indie hit “Out Of My Head” and ten unreleased originals, plus three covers. The band, formed from the ashes of The Poppees, had previously made waves with their debut Teenage Heartbreak and faced struggles with their ill-fated second album (Love Too Late), which nearly ended their career. Forty years later, Arthur Alexander and the band recovered the rights to the material, leading to the surprise 2021 release of Love Too Late... The Real Album. Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow captures the band in raw form, fueled by the frustration of industry interference, delivering high-energy rock tracks like “Never Mind,” the heartfelt elegy for John Lennon “Cricket Man,” and the rockabilly scorcher “Let Me Know.” Recorded at Mediasound Studios in NYC, it's a powerful testament to the band's sound and vision, offering a cohesive, fiery farewell with timeless tracks that reflect both their struggle and resilience.
