Is it okay to release a record in December? How does an artist tell a story with their new release? How do I promote myself in this ever-changing music landscape? The are just a few of the questions I pose to veteran publicist and artist manager, Jamie Coletta (No Earbuds). Jamie has been a friend of Other Record Labels for many years, and has been an instructor in a few of our courses in our Record Label Academy (http://otherrecordlabels.com/academy) Presented by Squarespace. http://otherrecordlabels.com/squarespace
Spinning Out (another music podcast) We talk to artists about their favorite albums and go on wild tangents. This week on the pod we talked with Jamie Coletta about The Wonder Years' The Greatest Generation. We also chat about the 10 year anniversary of the record and chat about the beginnings of No Earbuds and just generally about the love of music that has brought Jamie to where she is now. It was a pleasure and an honor to chat with Jamie - and behind the scenes there is literally no one that cares about music and getting it out there as much as she does. This week, Andrea sits down with Chris Payne to talk about his new book Where Are Your Boys Tonight? The Oral History of Emo's Mainstream Explosion 1999-2008. He's got a list of credits a mile long, covering music for publications like Alternative Press, Vulture, and Billboard where he spent seven years as a staff writer and podcast host covering alternative and independent music. Andrea and Chris talk about the various scenes that birthed the bands who ushered in the emo movement of the early 2000s and the songs that best represent that moment in time. Payne has curated such a vast collection of voices from every corner of the scene(s) at the time, from members of bands like Lifetime, Thursday, Fall Out Boy, and Taking Back Sunday, to the people who watched those bands skyrocket to emo royalty (Hanif Abdurraqib, Jamie Coletta, Chris Gethard). Where Are Your Boys Tonight? is full of candid conversations, recollections, and memories that tell a remarkable story of a truly unique moment in music.Pick up Where Are Your Boys Tonight?Keep up with Chris Payne on social mediaSubscribe to Chris's SubstackFollow Left of the Dial on Twitter and Instagram.ENJOY THIS EPISODE? We were so lucky to get to sit down with No Earbuds founder, Jamie Coletta. If you're unfamiliar with Jamie/No Earbuds, (impossible if you listen to our show), they're a wholly unique marketing/publicity/management/A&R/PR company and probably responsible, in one way or another, for introducing you to half of your favorite bands. They're one of those people who you can tell just absolutely loves music and helping spread the word on the bands and artists they love. Definitely a kindred spirit with the Left of the Dial crew. Jamie talks about John-Allison Weiss getting to make their new album the way they wanted, listening to The Wonder Years new masterpiece The Hum Goes on Forever in the studio with the band, what it means to sound like you're from Wilkes-Barre, and so much more! And hey, it's Bandcamp Friday. Why not pick up the songs you hear in today's episode and show these bands you love them! Check out https://www.noearbuds.com/ (No Earbuds). Welcome to an all-new Films for the Void, Bonus Episode #17! In this episode, Landon interviews Jamie Coletta - a Los Angeles based expert in all things artist management and public relations. As a former publicity staffer for SideOneDummy Records, their responsibility stemmed to getting some of the last decade's most successful indie alternative-punk releases heard, including those by Jeff Rosenstock, PUP, Chris Farren, AJJ, and many more. However, after the label restructured, they spent very little time getting the ball rolling on the next iteration of their journey. And that next step came in the form of No Earbuds – their own endeavor that combines marketing, artist management, and publicity, putting them all under one roof, as they currently represent artists such as The Wonder Years, Origami Angel, Foxing, Bartees Strange, and John-Allison Weiss. You can learn more about their work at noearbuds.com.Landon and Jamie talk about growing up in Rhode Island, the TRL pipeline, getting their start in punk, going independent, marriage, and parenthood, along with some of their favorite movies - all on the latest episode of Films for the Void!TIME STAMPS00:00:16 Interview w/ Jamie Coletta00:38:23 Round Robin Movie Discussion

This week we talk with indie PR superstar Jamie Coletta about starting her own company, adapting and persevering through unprecedented times, the Bartees Strange come up, Foxing's Pitchfork review, the insanity of a potential Ed Sheeran metal album, her top 5 Office characters and what the future of live music may look like going forward
Sofia Verbilla of Harmony Woods came on the show to talk about the band's new album "GRACEFUL RAGE." The album came out as a surprise release and exploded the moment it was made available to listen to. The album has received nothing but positive reviews and was even hinted at as an early candidate of Album of the Year by Jamie Coletta of No Earbuds. "GRACEFUL RAGE" was produced by Bartees Strange. Sofia says that Bartees Strange gave her new found confidence in her singing that helped her become a better vocalist. This album is a collection of songs that Sofia is extremely proud of and really believes in. It expresses a tough emotional state Sofia was in and how she became far removed from the events taking place and finally was able to write about how she was feeling. Writing about those songs allowed her to see that chapter in her life with a little more clarity and Sofia took away lessons from it. Sofia hopes these songs can help the listeners feel a little less lonely during tough times -- especially the ones we have been experiencing over the past year. Sofia knows she would love to hear a record that she can relate to and hopes that others feel that way while listening to it. Jamie Coletta is a publicist to the stars and the person behind all your favorite bands at SideOneDummy. We had her come on to explain what it means for a band to get their record on a year-end list, and we also chat about some of her favorite releases this year.
Todays episode features Jamie Coletta, the director of marketing at Side One Dummy Records. This is our first episode recorded out of New York, our first without Evan, and our first with a label we absolutely adore. Jamie was excited to discuss the new Paramore album which Pat enjoyed as a soundtrack to drive around California. We covered a lot of ground in this one! The Paramore song had us discussing identity, expectations, and the seemingly dramatic shift in genre they took. Then we talked about how Jamie got into the industry, doing what you love, what it's like to hunt for new bands, and how the labels community naturally formed. Be sure to check out Worriers and pre-order their new album here.
