For the past two decades, Go Betty Go have emphatically established themselves as one of punk rock's most exciting forces. A gloriously rough-and-tumble sound with melodic aggression, they bring a rich and engaging energy, loaded with lush atmosphere and, at times, an underlying sense of foreboding.Formed in 2000, in the suburbs of Glendale, California, they entered the LA scene when they were all teens. Go Betty Go is driven by Betty Cisneros' big, roaring guitar, singer Nicolette Vilar's soulful, siren call and the momentous urgency of Michelle Rangel's bass and Aixa Vilar's tumultuous drumming. The Latina Punk Quartet swiftly ascended from local shows to a standing-room-only weeknight residency at Los Angeles dive Mr. T's Bowl, to a national reputation via reams of critical acclaim and non-stop gigging.Go Betty Go surged through several Warped tours, frequent cross-country tours, an attention-getting invasion of South by Southwest and seemingly had it made. With the release of 2005's "Nothing is More", their first full-length album on Side One Dummy Records, they set out to tour yet again. They never finished it—Nicolette, exhausted, unhappy and burned out, suddenly quit. She walked away and the band's remaining members found themselves at a crossroads.Miraculously and reunited, after a friend suggested a one-off 2012 gig, all four original members found themselves back together on stage. As if the band had a life of its own, Go Betty Go was back as suddenly as they had split years earlier. After requests from fans and venues alike to play one last show together, the ladies of GBG gave in to what they thought was their final farewell show, but once they hit the stage, the chemistry that had once brought them together was restored and they were officially back. That renewal and excitement crackled through their last release “Reboot”, like a high-voltage jolt of electricity, reclaiming their rightful prominence as some of the brightest, boldest women in punk rock. They continued to plow in full force, playing cross-country festivals and venues alike. But like the rest of the world, the band halted and canceled all touring in 2020 due to the pandemic. In 2022, Go Betty Go was hit yet again with their most difficult challenge to date. As the band prepared to enter the studio and record their next album, Betty was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. The news was hard, but it brought them closer than ever. They worked around Betty's grueling doctor visits, chemotherapy, and surgeries, and when she was having her better days, they managed to squeeze out their latest studio recording “Black and Blue”. The name refers to the difficult and bruised circumstances that the band has dealt with. With the help and support of GBG fans and the music community alike, they all have helped support Betty with her GoFundMe page and through messages of love and support. The band sees no other road, but the one to recovery, as Betty continues her treatment towards being cancer-free. They are optimistically hopeful, supporting Betty as she works on beating her cancer.Go Betty Go's upcoming album “Black and Blue” will be out in early 2024 via LA-based indie label Wiretap Records. Thanks for listening!!! In additional to playing music, he started co-founded the independent record label SideOneDummy Records, which he established in 1995 with his friend Bill Armstrong. The label has released albums by notable punk and alternative rock bands such as Flogging Molly, The Gaslight Anthem, and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones had the biggest ska-punk hit of the '90s. Their song "The Impression That I Get" was huge and made them legit stars for a while. But they were a band that earned it. They got their start in the 80s, signed to Taang Records in 1989, got a major label deal in 1993 and released several records before hitting it big with their 1997 record Let's Face It. Not to mention, they were a huge influence on the sound of US ska-punk in the 90s. Today, we talk to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones' bassist Joe Gittleman (aka the Bass Fiddleman). He tells us stories from the Bosstones year, working at SideOneDummy in the 2000s, producing Big D and the Table's "Strictly Rude" record, playing in Gang Green and he gives us his side perspective regarding The Bosstones' breakup last year. He also talks about playing Lollapalooza in 1995, quitting drinking, and Bouncing Souls covering his song "Lean On Sheena" from his other band Avoid One Thing, and how the song ended up being one of the Souls most popular songs. We talk about Brian Fallon and Gaslight Anthem's landmark record The 59 Sound, playing Warped Tour and the significance of seeing Fishbone play in the 80s. Plus we talk about Joe's upcoming Wavebreaker release on Bad Time Records with the great Bad Operation. You're going to want to grab a copy ASAP! Support the show

Subscribe to our channel here: http://www.youtube.com/@chatsandtatts Aaron Della Vedova, host of the podcast Chats and Tatts, welcomes local comedian Joe Sib to the show. Joe grew up in the Santa Cruz Mountains of Northern California and had a unique upbringing due to living on a ranch. As a result, he had limited access to what other kids were listening to and he would cruise around with a little blue radio, listening to Abba and the Village People, Elton John, the Eagles, and Carly Simon. After his parents divorced, Joe began visiting his dad in San Jose and discovered a new world of punk music at a skateboard park. He was hooked! The conversation takes us through Joe's career in music and his transition from owning Side One Dummy Records to stand-up comedy and how punk rock influenced the speaker's life. He. also delves into his love for the stage, the challenges he faces even today as a comedian, social media, the 'woke' movement and its impact on comedy, and invites you all to his upcoming headlining show in La Jolla, CA at the Comedy Club. Welcome to an all-new Films for the Void, Bonus Episode #17! In this episode, Landon interviews Jamie Coletta - a Los Angeles based expert in all things artist management and public relations. As a former publicity staffer for SideOneDummy Records, their responsibility stemmed to getting some of the last decade's most successful indie alternative-punk releases heard, including those by Jeff Rosenstock, PUP, Chris Farren, AJJ, and many more. However, after the label restructured, they spent very little time getting the ball rolling on the next iteration of their journey. And that next step came in the form of No Earbuds – their own endeavor that combines marketing, artist management, and publicity, putting them all under one roof, as they currently represent artists such as The Wonder Years, Origami Angel, Foxing, Bartees Strange, and John-Allison Weiss. You can learn more about their work at noearbuds.com.Landon and Jamie talk about growing up in Rhode Island, the TRL pipeline, getting their start in punk, going independent, marriage, and parenthood, along with some of their favorite movies - all on the latest episode of Films for the Void!TIME STAMPS00:00:16 Interview w/ Jamie Coletta00:38:23 Round Robin Movie Discussion

Comic Joe Sib is that rare human who takes new endeavors that might normally intimidate the rest of us as a challenge. His punk-rock band Wax struck gold in the early 90's with a hit song California and a video directed by Spike Jonze known as the burning guy running in slow-mo video, then parlayed the success from that band into starting Side One Dummy Records, a label responsible for bands like Flogging Molly, Gogol Bordello and Gaslight Anthem among many others. Later, after the success of touring on his one-man show "Joe Sib: California Calling" he mounted the most grueling of challenges and one he'd been contemplating : life as a stand-up comic. He's toured with Jim Breuer often, even opening for Metallica for a tour, and has been a headliner across the US for the past decade, centering on a story-telling style that belies his punkrock past and leans into his life as a family man.

By now, most of us know that ska wasn’t dead in the 2000s. But it was uncool. Really uncool. Bands were fleeing from the scene, and describing their sound as “Rock with horns”—anything other than “ska.” But the scene continued, fueled by the passion of dedicated fans. During this weird time, one group that did quite well was Boston’s Big D and The Kids Table, who even managed to chart on the Billboard Top Heatseekers with their excellent 2007 album Strictly Rude. Big D formed in ’96 but didn’t release their first album, Good Luck, until 1999, which was right when ska was freefalling from mainstream culture. The group persevered during the ska-wasteland era and remains popular to this day. They are releasing their latest record, Do Your Art, on October 22nd on Side One Dummy Records. It’s their first collection of original tunes in years. We brought lead singer David McWane on to the show to talk about the album and their legacy as a not-quite-90s ska band going on two decades now. We covered a lot of ground, including two of their best-known cover tunes: The Specials’ “Little B***h” and Propagandhi’s “Ska Sucks.” We discuss how the group drove across the country to play a show for Mike Park, in hopes that he’d sign them to Asian Man Records. (Which he did!) And we spend a fair amount of time dissecting their Strictly Rude record. We even find out about the group’s unlikely relationship with Japanese noise rock band Melt Banana. Dave also tells us a very compelling story about surviving cancer. Fortunately for him, he caught it early and is doing great. If you enjoyed this episode, please share it on social media! Drew McManus, better known as Satsang, is a touring music artist with a sound rooted in the mountains of Montana where he was born and now resides. Satsang overcame abuse, addiction, and near-death alcoholism to go on to a successful music career, happy family life, and lifelong martial arts journey. Drew's music changed my life after my second suicide attempt and is some of my most-listened-to, and he is one of my best friends who I love most, and I know you'll come to understand why when you hear his story. Kill Your Idols was an American hardcore punk band from New York, active from 1995 through 2007 and were signed to SideOneDummy Records. The band released many 7" EPs, splits with other bands (including Full Speed Ahead, Fisticuffs, Voorhees, Good Riddance, and Poison Idea), compilation tracks, and full-length LPs in their 11-year run. Most of their records were released on vinyl as well as compact disc. They cite Poison Idea, Negative Approach, Sheer Terror, Agnostic Front, Minor Threat, Warzone, Sick of It All, and 7 Seconds as some of their influences. KYI was very fast and had a loud, dirty, dual guitar sound with shouted vocals. They employed hints of melody in their song structure. Although they derived many of their influences from California and D.C. style hardcore, they were considered a New York hardcore band. I got Andy West on the Skype and this is what we chat about: Starting off as a Dead Head Was he a songwriter prior to starting the band Who started getting their tattoos What does he think about playing Long Island Playing every small town that they could Dealing with depression Always writing a ton of songs What are his thoughts on their new songs Their last show when they broke up The Webster Hall show And a ton more If you market aggressively on Instagram Stories and want custom stickers then go here to get custom stickers or just email mike@drive80.com and I can send you samples. We had the pleasure of interviewing Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music from the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach CA! ** This interview was recorded prior to the COVID-19 pandemic ** With his emotional and gravel-coated bellow, vocalist/guitarist Chuck Ragan made a name for himself as one-fourth of the much-loved Gainesville post-hardcore outfit Hot Water Music before releasing his first solo album in 2007. Alongside friends Chris Wollard, Jason Black, and George Rebelo, Ragan formed Hot Water Music in the early '90s. Through a slew of well-received albums for labels like No Idea, Doghouse, and Epitaph -- and an incessant grassroots touring regime -- the passionate crew turned itself into a highly respected and influential act on the underground scene. Outside of his main gig, Ragan also recorded two side albums with some friends, including the stripped-down rock of Rumbleseat and the punk-oriented Cro(w)s. In the spring of 2005, Hot Water Music went on an indefinite hiatus, largely spurred by Ragan's desire to spend time outside of the band with his growing family. The group's other members went on playing music together (soon forming the Draft), while Ragan concentrated on his home life and, eventually, writing some acoustic-based material. Hot Water Music officially closed up shop in May 2006, and Ragan began playing various shows solo, logging time by the year's end alongside acts like Dustin Kensrue, Flogging Molly, the Lawrence Arms, Rob Huddleston, and Tim Barry. Ragan (who was a carpenter by day) signed with California indie SideOneDummy Records in early 2007 for the May release of his intimate debut, Los Feliz. Recorded live on February 19, 2007 at Tangiers in Los Feliz, California, the album features Ragan armed with just an acoustic guitar and harmonica, and occasionally joined on-stage by Ted Hutt and Jon Gaunt. Ragan also set up a "singles club" with his buddies at No Idea, sending subscribers a new 7" (six total) every month or so from September 2006 to June 2007. In 2008 Ragan launched the Revival Tour, a long-running, internationally acclaimed acoustic collaboration that's featured a revolving door of talented musicians from the alt-country, bluegrass, and punk scenes over the years. He released his second solo outing, Gold Country, the following year and the Christopher Thorn-produced Covering Ground in 2011, and reunited with Hot Water Music in 2012 for the album Exister. Till Midnight, his fourth solo long-player, followed in early 2014. A year later he and songwriter Rocky Voltolato released a split EP entitled Kindred Spirit on Side One Dummy. ~ Corey Apar, Rovi We want to hear from you! In this episode, I have the opportunity to sit down with The Sweller's drummer Jonathan "Jono" Diener. Jonathan is also the front man for his most recent musical project Baggage. He's also in the musical projects Braided Veins and No Trigger. Jonathan has recently been working to promote his new coffee company Rootless Coffee out of Flint Michigan where he lives. Jonathan and I talk about marketing, creativity, and identity, and how they are all interconnected when it comes to pursuing new projects. Whether it be playing in bands, starting companies, or writing blogs and articles, Jono does a great job at juggling a lot of plates and producing a lot of really cool things. It was a pleasure to talk with him, and I think anyone with a passion for creativity and art will take something away from our conversation. Enjoy! The Swellers were an American punk band from Flint, Michigan. Their music is influenced by melodic punk rock bands as well as alternative and indie rock from the 1990s. It was announced April 22, 2011, through Alternative Press that the new album titled Good For Me would be released on June 14, where one of the new tracks called "Best I Ever Had" could be streamed. In April 2012 they announced their departure from the Fueled by Ramen label. They would release a 7" (Vehicle City Blues) on Side One Dummy Records. On October 16, The Swellers self-released an EP entitled Running Out Of Places To Go. It is composed of five songs that the band recorded and produced independently. The Swellers signed to No Sleep Records in May 2013 and announced in August 2013 that they would be releasing their 4th full length, The Light Under Closed Doors, on October 29. On April 15, 2014, The Swellers announced via Facebook their release of "B-sides and Rarities." On June 24, 2014 they announced via Facebook and Twitter that they are breaking up and booking farewell shows. In February and March 2015, the band performed at Soundwave festival in Australia. On May 1, 2015, they played their last show at Groezrock. LET'S CONNECT: Kyle's Instagram Kyle's Facebook Email: Kyledevlinfitness@gmail.com

Comprised of three siblings, multiplatinum Southern California trio Echosmith —Sydney Sierota [lead vocals], Noah Sierota [vocals, bass], and Graham Sierota [drums]—transpose their collective growth into vibrant, vulnerable, and vital alternative pop anthems upheld by lush guitars and analog synths. Their personal songcraft blossoms to its fullest potential on the group’s 2019 second full-length and first independent offering, Lonely Generation. “We are a band, but we’re family first, which is a special and rare gift,” says Noah. “We get to learn and evolve together. The album is about trying to care for each other, grow, and experience joy and heartache in the internet age. It’s like a diary. You’re meant to hear every instrument being played. We pushed ourselves to try new things and reflect our experiences in a fresh way. From the beginning, our music has been a discovery and continued coming-of-age story. The new record is a completion of that. We’re showing a piece of who we are that we’ve never shown before.”“We were just honest about happiness, love, and even being truly broken,” adds Sydney. “We’re growing up in our own ways. We’re siblings and close friends, but we have our own lives too. We bring all of those things into the record. There are a lot of different flavors to it. We got to be really vulnerable for the first time.”An unbelievable journey empowered them to do so. Within a few years, Echosmith cemented themselves as an inescapable presence throughout popular music and culture. Streamed over 1 billion times by 2019, they earned a triple-platinum single with “Cool Kids” and a double-platinum single with “Bright” as their 2016 full-length debut, Talking Dreams, went gold. They headlined countless shows, toured alongside twenty-one pilots and Pentatonix, performed on major TV shows including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, TODAY, and The Late Late Show with James Corden, and received praise from the likes of Billboard, Vulture, Variety, Elle, Rolling Stone, Teen Vogue, and Nylon. They have collaborated with Timbaland, for King & Country, and Audien and Sydney have even graced the stage for a viral duet with Taylor Swift.

No one ever really knows for sure where the course of their lives will take them, and punk rock icon-turned-stand up comedian Joe Sib is no different. Joe first fell in love with the harsh sounds and unconventional aesthetic of the punk scene while taking his first ride through a Northern California skate park at the dawn of the 1980's. From then on, he knew that no matter where life took him, that music and that world would define everything he wanted and beliefs for which he stood. Life would, in fact, take him in many strange directions, including being kicked out of the band Frontline, having his band Wax dropped from one major label only to be picked up by another, founding SideOneDummy Records, and performing stand up as an opener for Metallica's latest tour. No matter what, though, the caustic, grinding soundscapes like those of hardcore punk giants Hüsker Dü's 1985 album New Day Rising have always remained a constant in Joe's life, just as they have left an indelible mark on the many artists whose careers Joe has helped foster. SideOneDummy Records has been one of indie rock's most promising labels for 22 years. And in the temperamental world of independent music, it's been a bastion of hope. But this January, the founders of SideOneDummy laid off the label's entire staff save for one employee. Now, the indie scene wants to know what the future holds for this long-running label. This is the episode where comedian, singer, record label founder, podcast host, Joe Sib, and I discuss evolving from a magician, to punk rocker, to father/husband, and to comedian. Also in the episode are stories of being a lead singer for the bands WAX and 22 Jacks with some of the biggest names in music today. I also attempt to start a band with Joe, which I think he may have gone for. Such a great dude with a passion for everything he does. I'm a fan for life and you will be too after listening.
Todays episode features Jamie Coletta, the director of marketing at Side One Dummy Records. This is our first episode recorded out of New York, our first without Evan, and our first with a label we absolutely adore. Jamie was excited to discuss the new Paramore album which Pat enjoyed as a soundtrack to drive around California. We covered a lot of ground in this one! The Paramore song had us discussing identity, expectations, and the seemingly dramatic shift in genre they took. Then we talked about how Jamie got into the industry, doing what you love, what it's like to hunt for new bands, and how the labels community naturally formed. Be sure to check out Worriers and pre-order their new album here.

Mars ain't no place to raise a kid, and West Virginia ain't no place to rock & roll - or, at least, so you'd be lead to believe. Enter Rozwell Kid, whose love of big riffs and old-school powerpop has endeared them to audiences on a global scale. They've just released their fourth album, Precious Art, but back in September 2016 the Kid visited Australia for the very first time as a part of Poison City Weekender. Before another sweaty, show-stopping set as a part of I Love Life at Sydney's Manning Bar, Rozwell Kid's leader Jordan Hudkins sat down to talk of marching bands, college dorms and the one time a $20 payment for a gig was too much. Rozwell Kid's new album, Precious Art, is out now via Cooking Vinyl Australia and SideOneDummy Records. I'm very excited to welcome comedian Joe Sib to the show. I've been a fan of his work for a long time, in the sense that he is responsible for introducing me to a lot of my favorite music through his label SideOneDummy. In turn, I was quite surprised to find out that he is also an incredible stand-up comedian. We talk about youth, naivety, and how Joe incorporated his love of punk rock into a career both on-stage and off. And he explains how all of this led to him performing stand-up comedy all over the country and releasing his debut comedy album, Nowhere Near the Top.Nowhere Near the Top is available now! Joe Sib is a comedian, storyteller, musician and co-owner of SideOneDummy Records. He and Dave talk about the fear of being exposed as a fraud in your craft, and about being dick. Joe says he used to be a dick sometimes, and he worked to not be a dick anymore. Dave doesn't think he's a dick, though. At the end, Dave revisits body dysmorphia, as discussed in the Julian McCullough episode.
This week, we get a visit from the co-founder of Side One Dummy Records and former Wax frontman, Joe Sib. It’s our second show with the head of a record label, but our first show with first-hand stories about Spike Jonze!
Kira sits down with comedian, musician, and dad, Joe Sib. He is a man who wears many hats. So many hats that he doesn't get much sleep—and that's just the way he likes it. Sib spent the 90s playing in punk rock bands with a relentless touring around the world, then moved behind the scenes as co-owner of Side One Dummy Records where he signed and released albums from bands such as Flogging Molly, The Gaslight Anthem, ANTI-FLAG, and many more. Ever the music enthusiast with a wealth of stories only a touring musician could boast, Sib began hosting the Complete Control radio show in 2004, which airs in seven cities across the country, including 98.7FM in Los Angeles. Instead of abating Sib's energy, the show simply added more fuel to the fire and spawned not only his one-man show–California Calling: A Story of Growing Up Punk Rock—but also an unexpected leap into standup comedy.
We meet up with the fine gentlemen from RESTORATIONS out of Philadelphia, PA to talk about their journey in the musical world and how they became the musicians they are. BEARFOOT is abluegrass quintet that originally formed in Alaska. The band has already made a mark with four strong releases, including their 2009 Compass Records debut, “Doors And Windows which instantly hit the top of Billboard's Bluegrass Album chart. A mere two years after their initial meeting teaching at their namesake's bluegrass camp for kids, Bearfoot earned one of roots music's most prestigious awards Telluride Bluegrass Band Champions an honor they share with artists Dixie Chicks and Nickel Creek. Now based in Nashville, the band has welcomed singer/songwriter Nora Jane Struthers as their newest addition. THE REVEREND PEYTONS BIG DAMN BAND is comprised of fingerstyle guitarist Reverend Peyton, his wife and and distant cousin Aaron “Cuz Persinger on drums and bucket. They have only been around for a few years, in that time period these country-blues aficionados from rural Indiana have played more than 250 shows annually and logged more miles on their van than most acts who have been around for a decade. Their latest CD is “Wages on SideOneDummy Records.
