In this episode, we spoke to Prof Galit Shmueli, Tsing Hua Distinguished Professor at the Institute of Service Science, and Institute Director at the College of Technology Management, National Tsing Hua University. Galit talked with us about the multi-disciplinary work she has done over the years, as well as the differences between statistical models that are purposed for predicting as opposed to explaining. We also discussed causal inference and how it can be used to estimate behaviour modification by the tech giants. He obtained his PhD in environmental and natural resource economics from the University of California, Riverside in 2015 and a BA in economics mathematics and in history from Colby College in 2008. La pandemia lascia in eredità, tra le altre cose, fiammate nei costi di produzione: tensioni sui prezzi delle materie prime e dell'energia, costi della logistica in aumento, fattori climatici.Gli aumenti delle bollette sono ormai certi (+29,8% l'elettricità, +14,4% il gas), ma a preoccupare sono anche i prezzi all'ingrosso dell'agroalimentare, spinti dal caro delle materie prime: +96% il prezzo del grano duro nazionale, che si è riversata sui prezzi all'ingrosso della semola, cresciuti del 90% rispetto a due anni fa; le quotazioni del grano tenero sono in crescita, tanto che il prezzo all'ingrosso della farina è in rialzo del 19% da prima della pandemia; le impennate degli oli vegetali stanno mantenendo elevati anche in Italia i prezzi all'ingrosso degli oli di semi (+69% su settembre 2019). Dietro la notizia A distanza di circa cinque anni dalla pubblicazione dei noti Panama Papers, quando fu trafugato il server dello studio panamense Mossak-Fonseca, è di questi giorni la pubblicazione di una nuova lista "smaschera evasori", i Pandora Papers. Una stima diffusa dall'Icij rileva che la cifra nascosta potrebbe aggirarsi fra i 5.600 e i 32mila miliardi di dollari. Il Fondo monetario internazionale ha dichiarato che il ricorso a paradisi fiscali costa ai governo l equivalente di 600 miliardi di dollari in tasse perse ogni anno. Nobel per l'economia Il Premio Nobel per l'economia 2021 è stato assegnato al canadese David Card, e agli statunitensi Joshua D. Angrist e Guido W. Imbens. Tutti i tre economisti insigniti del premio insegnano negli Stati Uniti, rispettivamente alla University of California (Card), Mit (Angrist) e Stanford (Imbens).
