Nació en Caracas, Venezuela, el 10 de julio de 1956. Es hija de Rubén Merenfeld y Lía Kohn, y nieta de inmigrantes judíos que llegaron desde Europa Oriental a Venezuela entre 1925 y 1930 huyendo del antisemitismo. Sus abuelos, Isack y Dora Kohn, junto con Samuel y Ana Dulberg de Merenfeld, construyeron desde cero una vida basada en la familia, la educación judía y el compromiso comunitario.Desde niña mostró una vocación natural por la arquitectura. Estudió en el Technion – Instituto de Tecnología de Israel y obtuvo una maestría en Infrastructure Planning and Management en la Universidad de Stanford.
