Dry January ở Pháp: Thử thách một tháng nhịn uống tại xứ sở rượu vang

TẠP CHÍ XÃ HỘI

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 17, 2024 9:19

Dry January came from Emily Robinson, a young woman who gave up drinking for a month in January to better prepare for her first half marathon. The following year, she joined Alcohol Change UK and began to share her experience abstaining from alcohol, leading Dry January to officially become a campaign in 2013. The initiative peaked in 2022 after the pandemic saw elevated alcoholic intake (about 1 in 4 people drank more than usual). Dry January gives people a great excuse/reason and the confidence to carry on saying no thanks to alcohol, even after January has ended. Giving up alcohol can mean better sleep, weight loss, and more energy. In addition, to ditching the hangover, abstinence reduces the waistline, and saves some serious money over the course of 31 days.By the end of the month, in healthy individuals drinking at moderate to high levels, abstinence leads to tangible health benefits. Here are some tips to keep you on track during Dry January:Remember your WHY: Is it to have fun, to deal with stress and anxiety, or to fall asleep? Think about ways you could accomplish those objectives without alcohol, such as doing yoga, taking a walk, meeting friends for a hike, or playing games instead of drinking at a party.Lets friends and family know about your commitment to participate in Dry January.Make sure alternative non-alcohol-containing beverages are available at parties and gatherings.Have a polite, assertive "no, thank" ready for when you are offered a drink. As the month progresses, pay attention to how you feel. Are you sleeping better? Do you have more energy? When you notice benefits, make a note of them. It will help you keep your momentum going.Have a plan in place for when the month ends. As is the case with dieting, without a long-term plan, it's easy to resume old patterns.Remember, if you feel better when you are not drinking, or when you decrease your drinking, then your body is telling you something. Join host Robert Forto as he welcomes junior musher, Emily Robinson to the podcast. Emily Robinson, 14, says that as a second-generation musher, born and raised in Interior Alaska, I have grown up with a kennel of Alaskan Huskies. From the age of three, my dad has taken me mushing. When I was young, I rode in his sled. By the time I was four, he had built a small dog sled and would tie a rope to the sled so I could glide behind him. I would watch his every move in front of me and copy them. At that early age, I fell in love with dog mushing. My dad started mushing in Michigan when he was in middle school and, after graduation, came to Alaska to work in a kennel. In 2001, he ran the Iditarod and finished with all 16 dogs. The kennel he started is a part of our family, and now my dad has given me a team to race. My parents have taken me on long trips, and rarely does the weather stop us, even at 30 below 0. Traveling long distances in cold temperatures with the dogs is what we do for fun. We love living in Alaska and the adventures we have exploring the state. Emily placed 6th in last year's Willow 100. She is in the 8th grade and says she plays old-time fiddle, runs a trapline with her dad, and enjoys swimming. She says her parents have been very supportive as have her friends and family members and she looks forward to this year's Jr. Iditarod and Willow 100.

They explore what being psychic means beyond the mainstream understanding, how regular people practice psychic abilities on a daily basis, how intuition is a form of psychic ability, and the differences between intellect and intuition. Emily Robinson is a psychic, energy healer, and intuitive coach. Timestamps(00:00) Who is Emily Robinson? (02:00) What does it mean to be psychic? (07:26) Why did Emily decide to learn psychic skills? (10:46) Being afraid of getting a psychic reading. (14:53) How colors affect psychic readings.(23:25) Intellectual decision making vs. intuitive decision making (the disconnect between intuition and intellect).(28:42) Where does intuition exist? OR How YOU are sometimes psychic. OR Why reading your gut feeling makes you psychic.(33:39) How to access your intuition and psychic abilities.(37:04) How are tarot readings and psychic readings connected? (40:10) What it was like being a psychic during the pandemic. (45:27) Hiding who you are.(47:49) How to connect with Emily 4 Key Takeaways 1. Being psychic is reading energy. There are different ways to perceive energy. One way to perceive energy is through your third eye - for example, being able to visualize an apple without an apple actually being in front of you.2. Your energy projects outside of you. However, outside energy affects your body as well.3. Perceiving your gut feeling is in itself a psychic practice. In checking your gut feeling, you are reading energy. 4. Intuition itself is a psychic ability. We are just more accepting of the word intuition than the word psychic. There is growth in AI and data science and with many conferences happening; this is the best scale up advice from Jr. to Sr. data scientists. * The book ‘ Build a Career in Data Science ( https://www.manning.com/books/build-a-career-in-data-science ) ’ explores topics including stakeholders, deploying models in production and community conferences such as Metis Data Science Bootcamp. More includes moving up the ladder and leaving the job gracefully. * COVID-19 has been a hot topic since 2020 and data science teams need to adjust to the new circumstances. Data science organizations must consider short term versus long term staffing decisions. The remote culture is picking up because of the pandemic and we should consider phases such as great recovery, slow recovery and communities going remote. * Prioritizing work and communicating effectively is critical when working with different stakeholders such as managers, product managers, C-Suite, data engineers and analysts. Most people think of data science as business work, but should be thought of as software engineering, sprints/scrums/kanbans. * Deploying a model in production is essential for handling failed products. But the big question becomes: Why do projects fail? And when it comes to deployment, is analytics easier to deploy. This week on the podcast, I'm joined by Welsh artist Emily Robinson. We discuss her short dance film "Seedlings of Time," a diaristic dance duet with her father, exploring his love of gardening and their relationship through a month-long daily practice dancing together. We talk about how through touch, dance facilitates a means of connecting and relating to others. I love how Robinson's work peels back the layers and creates beautiful portraits of her dancers, their individuality, and their relationship on stage. The work feels honest and direct but soft to touch. Here, she extrapolates on the role of questions in her work. How shared questions become shared investigation, and I start to understand where this connected quality comes from in her work. OLEANDER, (Emily Robinson)17, is the star and sole creator of her own provocative, sex-positive YouTube channel. She is also an unwilling student at a Christian abstinence program, led by the poised and charismatic Alissa, (Peri Gilpin) 50s. When Alissa demands that Oleander issue an on-camera apology for mocking her abstinence program online, a fierce battle of wills ensues. Alissa is aided by Kim, (Jennifer Lafleur) 30s, a filmmaker-for-hire who has no allegiance other than to serve her client. Oleander fights desperately for her voice and her beliefs, but will her anti slut-shaming message be able to stand up against the manipulative power of the two adults who seek to suppress her? Director Kate Hackett joins us for a conversation on her thoughtful, sharply focused look at the power of manipulation, looking for respect, trust and sexual agency. It’s easy to think of data science as a purely technical discipline: after all, it exists at the intersection of a number of genuinely technical topics, from statistics to programming to machine learning. But there’s much more to data science and analytics than solving technical problems — and there’s much more to the data science job search than coding challenges and Kaggle competitions as well. Landing a job or a promotion as a data scientist calls on a ton of career skills and soft skills that many people don’t spend nearly enough time honing. On this episode of the podcast, I spoke with Emily Robinson, an experienced data scientist and blogger with a pedigree that includes Etsy and DataCamp, about career-building strategies. Emily’s got a lot to say about the topic, particularly since she just finished authoring a book entitled “Build a Career in Data Science” with her co-author Jacqueline Nolis. The book explores a lot of great, practical strategies for moving data science careers forward, many of which we discussed during our conversation.

This week, Hugo will be speaking with Skipper Seabold about the current and looming credibility crisis in data science. Skipper is Director of Data Science at Civis Analytics, a data science technology and solutions company, and also the creator of the statsmodels package for statistical modeling and computing in python. Skipper is also a data scientist with a beard bigger than Hugo's.They’re going to be talking about how data science is facing a credibility crisis that is manifesting itself in different ways in different industries, how and why expectations aren’t met and many stakeholders are disillusioned. You’ll see that if the crisis isn’t prevented, the data science labor market may cease to be a seller’s market and we’ll have big missed opportunities. But this isn’t an episode of Black Mirror so they’ll also discuss how to avoid the crisis, taking detours through the role of randomized control trials in data science, the rise of methods borrowed from econometrics and how to set realistic expectations around what data science can and can’t do.LINKS FROM THE SHOWDATAFRAMED GUEST SUGGESTIONSDataFramed Guest Suggestions (who do you want to hear on DataFramed?)FROM THE INTERVIEWSkipper on TwitterSkipper on GithubWhat's the Science in Data Science? Eighth Grade is a 2018 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Bo Burnham. It is his feature film directorial debut. The plot follows the life and struggles of an eighth-grader, played by Elsie Fisher, during her last week of classes before graduating to high school. She struggles with social anxiety but produces vlogs giving life advice. Eighth Grade - Opening Scene (https://youtu.be/9JEwSi_TjXI) Burnham was inspired by his own struggles with anxiety when he began writing the screenplay in 2014. He had difficulty finding funding for the project until 2016. Shooting began in Suffern and White Plains, New York, in summer 2017. Fisher was cast after Burnham noticed her on YouTube; she led a cast including Josh Hamilton and Emily Robinson. Themes include heavy use of social media, mental health in Generation Z and sexuality and consent. The film premiered on January 19, as part of the U.S. Dramatic Competition section of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. After other festival screenings, it was released theatrically in the United States by A24 on July 13, 2018. Its R rating from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) inspired criticism, as its decision blocked many eighth-grade viewers from seeing the film in theatres. In response, the distributors arranged free, unrated screenings across the U.S. Eighth Grade completed its North American run grossing $13.5 million on a $2 million budget. Eighth Grade received acclaim from critics, with praise for Burnham's screenplay and direction and Fisher's performance, and was chosen by both the National Board of Review and American Film Institute as one of the Top 10 Films of 2018. The film received numerous awards and nominations and is nominated for four Independent Spirit Awards, including
