Discover the joy of micro-adventures—small, spontaneous outdoor escapes that recharge your spirit without requiring weeks off or expensive gear. Adventure is closer than you think! Plus we talk about the woes of surviving Winterizing your RV/Camper. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka ‘BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Micro Adventures Finding Big Joy in Small Adventures Sometimes, the best adventures don't require plane tickets or elaborate packing lists—they just need a free afternoon and a willingness to step outside. Over the past year, I've become obsessed with what's known as micro-adventures. They're quick, local, and wildly rewarding. What Exactly Is a Micro-Adventure? A micro-adventure is a small, simple trip close to home that brings a sense of exploration and refreshment without the logistics of a full-blown vacation. Think sleeping under the stars in your backyard, kayaking before work, or driving an hour to hike a new trail. British adventurer Alastair Humphreys popularized the idea, but honestly—it's for anyone who loves the outdoors and wants to break out of their daily routine. For me, a micro-adventure might mean grabbing my binoculars, a thermos of coffee or hot cocoa, and watching the sunrise over the Knife River. It's not far, but it feels like a reset button for my brain. Why Micro-Adventures Matter We often treat adventure as something we have to “earn” through vacation time, money, or elaborate plans. But in reality, our need for nature and novelty is daily—not annual. Here's what I've found after making micro-adventures part of my monthly rhythm: They recharge your mental batteries. Even a two-hour nature break can shift your mood dramatically. They're accessible. You don't need fancy gear or tons of time. They spark gratitude. Exploring nearby landscapes reminds you how beautiful “ordinary” places can be. Winterize RV / Camper Tips Tis the season to winterize that RV if you haven't already. Hopefully you have! However if not, here is a tip that's not shared, talked about... Creating Your Version Of An Owners Manual Hopefully your RV or Camper came with an owners manual, and if not... Now is the time to go online to print it off. Place it in a binder that stays with it. Why to do this? We all have lapses in memory but how you will build upon this owners manual will help with the selling of your RV / Camper too. Now that the camping season has ended, look back - and write or type up things such as: "What Needs To Be Done" before using again, in say the spring. Maintenance, Replacements and/or Modifications performed. Include dates of oil changes, tires, water pump. Add Insight: every unit operates differently and comes with its own challenges, make it headache free for yourself trying to remember or give that next owner the understanding to confidently feel ready to roll down the road. We began our version the day our RV was purchased and continue to add to the binder which never leaves the camper. Constantly we are referring to updated Owners Manual, and thankful as it proves how easily we forget. OUTDOORS FIELD REPORTS & COMMENTS We want to hear from you! For this episode of the show, we are joined by Amy Cushner! Amy has dedicated more than 30 years to the Shelton School and a lifetime to advocating for neurodivergent individuals, infusing passion, humor, and wisdom into every stage she graces. From classrooms in Dallas to conferences in China, she has become a sought-after voice championing inclusive, strengths-based approaches across both education and business.. In this episode, Amy breaks down the important differences between accommodations, modifications, and remediation in the education system, explaining how these terms are often used interchangeably but have distinct purposes that can significantly impact a child's learning journey. Amy discusses the historical context, which traces back to Thomas Jefferson's vision for public education and the challenges of the "Goldilocks effect," ensuring the right fit for every student. She highlights why it's so important to understand the “magic number” that determines when remediation is provided, highlighting that the need for support does not disappear just because a student falls short of the threshold. Amy stresses the importance of understanding important distinctions as they have major implications for a student's educational journey, particularly when it comes to college and career choices, and she also emphasizes the crucial role of early intervention and the empowerment of students to self-advocate, using visual cues and clear communication about their accommodations. Throughout our conversation, Amy shares some valuable insights and practical advice for parents and educators, highlighting the need for a collaborative approach and the recognition that every child's learning journey is unique. Show Notes: [3:21] - Amy Cushner traces public education's evolution from Jefferson to modern challenges in individualized learning. [6:54] - Students often get accommodations when remediation or intervention is truly required. [7:12] - Amy criticizes rigid “magic number” cutoffs for remediation, calling them unfair and financially motivated. [9:13] - Accommodations, Amy explains, provide classroom access without altering expectations or content. [11:18] - Amy contrasts accommodations with modifications, which lower expectations to match processing or cognitive challenges. [13:54] - Amy highlights knowing accommodation vs. modification and likens it to learning another country's customs. [15:12] - Remediation can help develop missing skills caused by neurological learning differences, not intellectual deficits. [17:31] - Research shows us that remediation builds entirely new neural pathways, effectively rewiring students' brains. [20:17] - When schools won't fund remediation, parents have to seek external diagnoses and licensed therapists. [23:19] - Hear how true remediation requires trained therapists. [26:45] - Remediation needs to be paired with accommodations like audiobooks for full access. [27:39] - Amy explains how modifications alter curriculum expectations, influencing future school and college options. [30:02] - Amy suggests that teachers can use accommodations across the board to help build learning from the ground up. [32:32] - Starting instruction too high frustrates students, while accommodations let them build confidence gradually. [34:59] - Educational advocates help parents navigate laws, testing, and school obligations, helping to ease parental burdens. [38:10] - Timely intervention prevents years of lost learning caused by eligibility cutoffs. [41:21] - Amy encourages early remediation and teaching children to self-advocate for their accommodations. [44:29] - Honest conversations can help kids avoid developing inaccurate, damaging narratives about struggles. [45:48] - Amy reframes nonstandard brains as strengths that offer unique ways of seeing the world. [47:02] - What is the best way to get in touch with Amy Cushner? In a world that often glorifies youth, it's refreshing to hear stories that remind us: age is just a number, and reinvention is always possible. That's the core message from Sheila L. Agnew McCoy, a 74-year-old Chicago native, certified senior fitness specialist, and nine-year breast cancer survivor. In a recent interview with Steve Gurney of the Positive Aging Community, Sheila shared her journey from corporate burnout to empowering women over 40 through fitness, inspiration, and unapologetic self-love. "As long as the wheel keeps turning, keep going," she says with infectious energy. "Don't stop the wheel. You don't have to."Sheila's story begins with a rebellious spark. As a teenager in Chicago, she once painted bold black stripes across her bedroom walls—a symbol of her spontaneous spirit that would define her life. Raised and educated in the Windy City, she spent a decade in corporate America before launching her own event planning and decorating business. But after 25 years of hustle, burnout hit hard. "I got burned out," she recalls, "and then I started doing women's programs."What started as listening sessions revealed a deep need: inspiration, encouragement, and confidence-building for older women. Around age 40, menopause loomed large—"That is scary," Sheila admits—and it ignited her passion. She dove into research, wrote a slim book in the early 2000s encouraging women over 40, and began leading workshops. "I said, you know what? That's really what I always have wanted to do."Fitness entered the picture organically. After gaining a few pounds from her demanding business, Sheila started walking, then biking along Chicago's lakefront. "It became a passion for me," she says. Not athletic in school—"The only thing I liked about athletes was the men's sports team; I liked going to the gym to pass by the boys' locker room"—she discovered joy in movement during her late 30s and early 40s. Hiring a personal trainer helped her feel confident in the gym, and soon, compliments rolled in: "Wow, you're looking good." That validation fueled her further.Fast-forward to 1999: Sheila was a regular at gyms wherever life took her. At 65, a young trainer pulled her aside. "You should be a senior fitness specialist," he said. "I've been watching you, and other women are watching you too." She got certified, weaving it seamlessly into her workshops and book. Now, at 74, Sheila runs the Smart Path to Fitness for Active Adults, a program designed to dismantle excuses. "If you've never been to a gym, if you've never exercised, if you've got health problems—there's too many excuses out there," Steve notes. Sheila's response? Modifications for everyone, from chair exercises to wheelchair adaptations. Her own health battles underscore this. As a breast cancer survivor, she's passionate about regaining range of motion post-surgery or during treatment—especially timely in October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One of her certifications is in corrective exercises, targeting imbalances from injury, surgery, or disease. "A disease does not have to stop you. Injury does not have to stop you," she insists. "You just have to get the correct program." She urges physical therapy and continuity: "I try to do modifications when I do exercises, so it could be for everyone."Sheila's Facebook group, Lifestyle Fitness for Active Adults, offers quick exercises, meal preps, and motivation. Her website, sheilaagnew.com, is a gateway to workshops, her book, and more. As Steve urges: "I hope that our community members go there and get engaged with your community. You're a great inspiration."In Sheila's words, it's simple: Start where you are, keep the wheel turning, and embrace the full you. At any age, that's the real reinvention.

This conversation delves into the foundational aspects of contract law, focusing on the essential elements of contract formation: offer, acceptance, and consideration. The discussion highlights the differences between the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and common law, the importance of governing law, and the nuances of contract modifications. Additionally, it explores alternative theories of recovery such as promissory estoppel and restitution, providing a comprehensive overview for law students preparing for exams. In the bustling world of business, contracts are the backbone of every transaction. Imagine a scenario where two companies, eager to collaborate, find themselves at a crossroads. The key to their successful partnership lies in understanding the fundamental elements of contract formation: offer, acceptance, and consideration.Offer: An offer is the starting point of any contract. It's a clear proposal made by one party to another, intending to create a legal obligation upon acceptance. For instance, when Company A proposes to supply goods to Company B at a specified price, it sets the stage for a potential agreement.Acceptance: Acceptance is the mirror image of the offer. It signifies the offeree's agreement to the terms proposed, creating a binding contract. This acceptance must be communicated clearly and unequivocally. In our scenario, Company B's acceptance of Company A's offer, perhaps through a signed document or a verbal agreement, solidifies their commitment.Consideration: Consideration is the glue that holds the contract together. It refers to the value exchanged between the parties, which can be in the form of money, services, or goods. In our example, Company B's payment for the goods supplied by Company A represents the consideration, ensuring that both parties benefit from the contract.Understanding the intricacies of offer, acceptance, and consideration is crucial for anyone involved in contract negotiations. These elements not only form the foundation of a legally binding agreement but also ensure that both parties are on the same page, paving the way for successful business relationships.Subscribe Now: Stay informed about the latest in contract law and business strategies by subscribing. Don't miss out on valuable insights.TakeawaysGoverning law is crucial: UCC for goods, common law for services. The objective theory of assent is key in contract law.The mirror image rule is strict under common law for acceptance.UCC Section 2-207 allows for more flexibility in acceptance terms.Consideration must involve a legal detriment to be valid.Modifications under UCC do not require new consideration.Promissory estoppel can provide remedies even without a contract.Restitution focuses on preventing unjust enrichment.Understanding the battle of the forms is essential for contracts.Performance can sometimes create a contract even without formal agreement.contract formation, offer, acceptance, consideration, UCC, common law, promissory estoppel, restitution, legal principles, contract law

The Barbell Mamas Podcast | Pregnancy, Postpartum, Pelvic Health
Exercise during pregnancy has long been shrouded in caution and confusion. What if many of the modifications we've been taught are unnecessary? Drawing from both cutting-edge research and personal experience through multiple pregnancies, this episode challenges conventional wisdom about prenatal exercise. The fitness landscape for pregnant women has dramatically evolved over the past decade. Where once pregnant women received advice limited to walking or gentle yoga, we now recognize the benefits of maintaining strength and conditioning throughout pregnancy. But questions remain: should every pregnant woman modify exercises in the same way? Does holding your breath while lifting actually increase your risk of pelvic floor issues? What's the difference between physiologically-based recommendations versus outcome-based evidence? Two distinct approaches have emerged in pregnancy fitness guidance. One camp bases recommendations on physiological changes happening during pregnancy, suggesting universal modifications regardless of individual fitness levels. The other acknowledges the body's remarkable adaptability, suggesting women continue their pre-pregnancy routines until symptoms indicate a need for change. My journey as both a clinician and researcher has led me from firmly believing in the first approach to increasingly embracing the second. Most compelling is emerging evidence showing that fitness level entering pregnancy serves as a protective factor against pain and dysfunction. Rather than focusing exclusively on which movements to avoid, we might better serve pregnant women by emphasizing the importance of strengthening their bodies before and during pregnancy. This represents a profound shift away from fear-based messaging that can unnecessarily limit movement during a critical life stage.Ready to explore how your body's signals might guide your pregnancy fitness journey better than universal modifications? Listen now to discover why the most beneficial approach might be less restrictive than you've been led to believe.___________________________________________________________________________Don't miss out on any of the TEA coming out of the Barbell Mamas by subscribing to our newsletter You can also follow us on Instagram and YouTube for all the up-to-date information you need about pelvic health and female athletes. In this week's episode, Elena and Katie catch up on all things training, mindset, and life as Elena wraps up the final month of prep for UTMB and Katie navigates the second trimester of pregnancy as an endurance athlete. Topics include: why “saying maybe” and listening to your body is sometimes a better training approach than saying yes; unsolicited comments on pregnant athletes' bodies and training and how to handle them; how to take the pressure off going into big events, including going “Strava dark,” planning adventures, and reconnecting with your why; Elena's big days at the Speedgoat 50K and “Soft Rock” and how they helped her build confidence for UTMB later this year; hydration strategies in ultra endurance events; and more! We love it when casual life catch-ups turn into insights-packed episodes for the podcast, and we hope you enjoy it too. We continue our lease accounting podcast miniseries with an episode focused on embedded leases. Some arrangements to provide services or purchase inventory rely on the use of a specific asset to fulfill the contract. Even if the word “lease” doesn't appear, the rights conveyed to the customer may still meet the definition of a lease—shifting the transaction from simply purchasing services or goods to leasing an asset. We explain why identifying an embedded lease is critical and how it can significantly impact the accounting and financial reporting for both customers and suppliers. In this episode, we discuss:1:40 – An overview of embedded leases and common arrangements6:50 – Determining whether an arrangement contains a lease24:07 – Allocating contract consideration to lease and nonlease components34:19 – Available practical expedients39:01 – Accounting and reporting implicationsFor more information, see chapter 2 of our Leases guide and chapter 4 and 5 of our Revenue from contracts with customers guide. Welcome back to the Flex Diet Podcast. I'm Dr. Mike T. Nelson, and in this episode, I'm joined by the legendary Coach Cal Dietz from the University of Minnesota. This was originally a bonus call for the Phasic 2 book, but it was packed with so much gold, I had to bring it to the podcast. We dig into a wide range of performance topics, including everything from the surprising benefits of using water bags in training to how footwear can affect pain and mechanics. Cal and I also discuss strategies for building muscle and improving body composition, including phasic loading for powerlifters, the nuances of cluster training, and how to train the aerobic system without compromising recovery. We even touch on some sport-specific advice, like adjusting training for cross-country athletes and the critical distinction between EU stress and distress in programming.
