Intergalactic baseball is sadly still not a thing, sigh. But we here at Resting Pitchface can still find ways to bring space into Earth-based baseball, especially when the NL East is a collection of black holes stacked on top of each other; Organic Farmer Jayson Werth may revive farming at the first Jedi temple; and Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, and Koda Glover are lighting it up with some out of this world Ks. Oh, and the concept of the Closer should definitely be shot into space! It's been a year of us talking about relievers, things you shouldn't google, and, apparently, space. MLB.com's Matthew Leach and fantasy expert Fred Zinkie begin this week by taking a closer look at the rough starts from Miguel Cabrera (:40) and Manny Machado this season. (3:10) On the other end of the spectrum, guys like Corey Dickerson (6:20) and Jake Lamb (10:35) are off to great starts. Should owners sell high on these outfielders? Devon Travis has been on a bit of a hot streak lately, is he someone that should be picked up? (12:00) Along the same lines Dansby Swanson has also been playing well this month. Is he ready to be a consistent hitter? (14:20) Zack Greinke is back to dominating on the mound and he is the top trade target in the league if you need starting pitching help. (20:45) They also give their opinions on starters Eduardo Rodriguez (24:08), Mike Clevinger (25:05), Jeff Samardzija (26:10), and Joe Ross (27:20). Closers are always a hot topic in any fantasy league, Matthew and Fred discuss Koda Glover in Washington (29:50), the Angels' Bud Norris (31:30) and Padres pitcher Brad Hand. Leading Off (3:15) - Coming off a quick road trip to Pittsburgh and Atlanta, Dan discusses how Daniel Murphy just keeps on hitting, and somehow is flying under the radar. Plus, the boys react to Koda Glover's comments about how after a sub-par road trip, the Nats (and their bullpen) will be just fine. Dare to be Bold (12:10) - In a new segment, Dan gives his take on some bold statements that John tosses his way, including whether Stephen Strasburg is underrated, and if Jayson Werth is more valuable to the Nats in Year 7 of his contract than he was in Year 1. Inside the Clubhouse (24:55) - With multiple Nats pitchers raving about the preparation that Matt Wieters puts into how he calls a game behind the plate, Dan chats with Wieters about how much tape he watches, what he looks for when studying film, and why he takes such pride in that aspect of his game. Would You Rather (36:25) - Dan and John take their pick of a few random questions, including if you feel you had a better chance to make contact off 10 Max Scherzer sliders or 10 Stephen Strasburg changeups; if you would rather have the last 25 years of Braves franchise history or Marlins franchise history; and if you would rather see the Terps basketball team win a title or the Capitals win a Cup. On-Deck (45:25) - Looking ahead to a long stretch of games against non-NL East teams, Dan says this will be a chance for the Nats to quiet the talk that they have merely feasted on their own division thus far, and John opines that the club's defense is good enough to be a positive factor as the season progresses.

Was this our best effort? … ýou can be the judge. We chat about Julio Urias. He had another bad outing and was sent back to the minors. Todd still has the faith and believes this guy will still a be a star. But for a keeper league, we discuss whether you should hold onto him. But it’s not all bad news, we discuss some guys that have been pretty good lately and what we expect from them in the future. What’s going on this week in the nation’s capitol? We discuss the closer situation and we’re definitely not in agreement on this. Koda Glover looks to be the guy right now, but we suspect that’s going to change. Todd is worried about Joc Pederson. Note this was before his collision with Puig. Speaking of worried, we discuss some stalwarts that are off to a slow start. Stephen Strasburg threw seven scoreless before running into trouble in the eighth, but the Washington Nationals held on for a sweep-avoiding 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves in the finale in SunTrust Park. With the win, the Nationals also brought an end to a four-game slide. Strasburg struck out 11 in 7 2/3 IP, leading the Nationals to the win and Koda Glover recorded a four-out save to lock it down as the Nats improved to 26-17 overall on the season.

Leading Off (3:15) - After a dominant April for the Nationals, Dan addresses some of the negative thoughts felt by some fans, and the boys discuss Gio Gonzalez's tremendous start to the season. Would You Rather (12:40) - In a new segment, we hear from Shawn Kelley, Jose Lobaton, Koda Glover, Sammy Solis and Adam Lind on a variety of (clean) "Would You Rather" topics; including if the guys would rather have Greg Maddux's command or Aroldis Chapman's velocity, and if they would prefer to be a sub-par PGA pro or a B-list actor. On the Beat (29:45) - Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post joins the podcast to discuss her favorite/least favorite aspects of being an MLB beat writer, what her biggest takeaways are from the first month of the Nats' season, and how Dan is her favorite sideline reporter ever, in any sport, in the history of television. Rant of the Day (38:25) - With spring in full bloom in D.C., Dan rants about the high pollen levels, his fear of breaking into a sneezing fit on-air, and why scientists can't just get rid of pollen permanently. On-Deck (43:22) - After the injury to Adam Eaton, Dan says he's watching how Michael A. Taylor will settle into the starting center field job, while John discusses the upcoming Battle of the Beltways home-and-home series with the Orioles.

The big news of the week was Starling Marte getting slammed with an 80-day PED suspension. We discuss what to do with him, what are the long-term ramifications of this? In what types of leagues do you keep Marte and where can you let him loose? Also we do some replacement talk, although with a guy of Marte’s caliber, you’re not gonna find someone on the wire to solve all your problems. Travis Jankowski and Jarrod Dyson are the speed guys that we mention. If you’re fishing for upside, Austin Meadows is an interesting name. His profile is what has the scouts drooling, but his numbers aren’t bananas. The news that affects us is Marcus Semien’s broken wrist. Todd threw out a couple of nice sleeper names that you’ll want to listen for. I have my doubts about Jose Peraza, so we chat about the Reds situation for a bit. Our favorite topic, Closerpocalypse, rears it’s ugly head. Matt Bush looks to be the guy in Texas. Zach Britton got hurt and Brad Brach looks to be the guy. The National’s situation is dicey; Todd thinks it’s Kelley and I’m in the Koda Glover camp. Which crappy closer would you want? Washington's Nationals rallied to tie it at 3-3 in the ninth, but the Philadelphia Phillies walked off on closer Koda Glover and took two of three games in Citizens Bank Park. Stephen Strasburg put together a solid outing, but the bullpen faltered again with Glover falling behind hitters repeatedly and eventually giving up a two-out, walk-off single by Cesar Hernandez that won it for the Phillies. The Nats dropped two of three in CBP in the first road series of the season and fell to 3-3 on the year.
