We had the pleasure of interviewing Lyn Lapid over Zoom video!Gold-Certified singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Lyn Lapid releases her long-awaited debut album, BUZZKILL, via Mercury Records—listen HERE. The 12-track album features her recently released singles “death wish,” “i'll be happy when,” “coraline” and “buttons,” as well as the new title track, “buzzkill,” which is unveiled today alongside the official music video—watch HERE. Known for marrying her honest and vulnerable storytelling through both lyrics and visuals, Lyn released mini-trailers for each of the songs on the album leading up to the release, which culminated into the official album trailer—watch HERE.Up next, Lyn is gearing up to kick off the “BUZZKILL World Tour” in a few weeks. Beginning on May 6th in Berlin, the highly anticipated tour will first see Lyn headline shows across Europe and the UK before heading back to North America, where she'll perform in major cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Chicago, Washington, DC, San Francisco, Vancouver, and more through the end of June. See the full list of tour dates below and at www.lynlapidtour.com.Lyn spent the past few years carefully crafting what would become BUZZKILL, inspired by the isolating experiences surrounding her move from her small suburban hometown in Maryland to the bustling city of Los Angeles, and all of the mixed emotions that came along with them. She shares, “Moving to the West Coast was a struggle. It was the first time I was in a new place by myself, and I didn't know anyone outside of my roommates. I'd go to parties because I thought it was better than being alone. It was an attempt to find community, but it just became a cycle of meaningless interactions. Every time I went out with my friends, I felt like a ‘buzzkill' because it seemed like I had always brought the mood down. However, it only seemed that way because I was with the wrong people. I needed to accept that I shouldn't have to force myself to settle for surface-level friendships and relationships. It opened an opportunity to find new and truly meaningful connections and friendships.”BUZZKILL takes listeners on an all-too-relatable journey with Lyn, from experiencing loneliness and feelings of not belonging to radical self-acceptance and newfound confidence. The album has already received early praise, with Grammy.com proclaiming, “Imbued with a soft and soulful tone over a bed of R&B, indie, alternative, and pop, BUZZKILL is some of Lapid's most vulnerable work,” and Ones To Watch declaring, “Lyn Lapid dives into the loneliness that comes with finding yourself in a new place.”ABOUT LYN LAPID:Lyn Lapid writes the soundtrack to seeing life a little differently. Her unfiltered observations ripple across fluid soundscapes anchored by subtle alternative R&B grooves, loose jazz phrasing, and unassuming pop ambition. The 22-year-old Filipino American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist continues to strike a chord with audiences through her unpredictably catchy and undeniably candid songcraft. In 2020, a series of viral ukulele covers on TikTok brought the Maryland native her first brush with virality. Her personal vision took shape across a series of essential fan favorite singles such as “Producer Man,” “When She Loved Me,” and the Gold-Certified “In My Mind.” Early co-signs came courtesy of Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, and Jungkook of BTS.During 2023, she made waves with to love in the 21st century EP and its extended edition, the epilogue. She incited the applause of Rolling Stone, Billboard, E! Online, BuzzFeed, UPROXX, HYPEBAE, Refinery29, and LADYGUNN, among others. Speaking to her impact, Forbes touted her among its “AAPI Artists to Watch,” and Atwood Magazine christened her an “exceptional artist-to-watch.” She emerged as the rare collaborator equally comfortable on a track with Ruth B and mxtmtoon or Eric Nam and Whethan. Beyond touring with the likes of Ricky Montgomery and Claire Rosinkranz, she graced the bill of Head In the Clouds Festival and has sold out two nationwide headline tours in 2023 and 2024.Generating over 1 billion streams, packing venues on headline tours, and attracting widespread critical acclaim, she narrates a season of self-actualization and newfound confidence on her 2025 full-length debut, BUZZKILL, out now on Mercury Records. We want to hear from you! Bissen on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 11am PST 10/04/22 About Bissen - Hot off his second mix compilation album, a continuous US tour, a slew of major label remixes for the likes of M83, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Major Lazer, Jojo and Ruth B, two Beatport Top 10 hits over the last couple year with his project Exostate, and a slew of upcoming releases in the pipelines, German-born, New York residing Georg Bissen has never been busier making his mark in the world of EDM. Bissen has created some of the biggest dancefloor smashers in the club scene in recent years, all while also designing sound presets for Ableton Live, Sample Logic and others, writing music for adverts for some of the world's biggest brands, doing sound design and composing for major TV networks, and running his own music licensing, production and publishing business.   Storming the scene almost a decade ago with the now classics "Exhale" and "Quicksand," Bissen has, as a dance music artist and producer, had over a hundred original and remix releases since. These records have been released on some of the biggest, most desired and well-respected labels in the industry, including many of the major label imprints. Always in pursuit of a fist-pumping, "all systems go" attitude, Bissen's sound exhibits an effective blend of tough, energetic beats and grooves, coupled with extremely memorable, big melodic riffs and hooks--proper huge tunes for dancefloors, not armchairs, that have lasting impacts on clubgoers and DJs alike. Bissen creates one club banger after another, from his remix of the Black Eyed Peas #1 song "I Gotta Feeling", which was one of Ibiza's summer anthems of 2009 and received extensive UK BBC Radio1 play, to 2011's "2nite U R Perfect", which was one of the year's most memorable club songs, being featured on German and US FM radio, as well as on DMX, reaching millions of shoppers every day; to 2016's remix of The Chainsmoker's "Don't Let Me Down", which got extensive club and US terrestrial radio play, especially on New York's 103.5 WKTU.   2011 saw Bissen start up his project "Exostate" with singer Jeza for Enhanced Recordings, 2 out of 3 singles released so far reaching the Beatport Top 10. In late 2012, along with long-term collaborator Victor Dinaire, Bissen embarked on doing remixes for major artists and labels, starting with the French art rock band M83's "Steve McQueen", received to much critical acclaim, as well as Major Lazer and Flux Pavilion's "Jah No Partial", which went top 25 on the Billboard club charts. With a remix in 2014 for Bingo Players' “Knock You Out” the duo helped propel the release to #1 on the Billboard Club charts, scoring their first #1 record on that chart. Dinaire and Bissen have since lent their hands to dozens of remixes, helping releases chart in the top 10 of the Billboard Club Play Charts numerous times since 2014, with 5 additional #1s so far. In 2016, Dinaire+Bissen remixed Ruth B "Lost Boy", which went into summer-long regular rotation on terrestrial US radio, including WAPE Jacksonville and KKHH Houston.   In 2015, alongside Victor Dinaire, Bissen scored the documentary “Glory Daze: The Life and Times of Michael Alig”, which documents the heyday of New York clubbing in the 90s. The soundtrack is an authentic representation of the classic New York club sound of the mid 1990s. The movie saw a North American release in 2016 and can currently be viewed on all major streaming portals as well as on Netflix. In 2016 Bissen started working closely with renowned DJ Tony Moran. Their collaborative effort has spawned over 2 dozen works, including many original records for Moran, as well as joining together for a few remixes. Bissen eventually produced and co-produced over half of Moran's latest double-sided album "Mood Swings." The two updated a cover version of the 90's Lighthouse Family “High” as a charity song for the 2016 Orlando club shooting massacre victim's families.   As a DJ, Bissen delivers his no-nonsense approach with exciting and uplifting sets. He boasts over a decade of spinning experience, beginning in college, and continuing in New York, where, for years he djayed at loft parties, which he helped organize. Since 2011, Bissen has seen his international DJ career soar, playing in the UK, Germany and Canada, as well as filling clubs all over the US, including Los Angeles (Circus), San Diego (Hard Rock), Philadelphia (Rumor), Orange County (Sutra) and of course New York, where he currently plays about once a month-- from big rooms such as Pacha and Webster Hall, to more intimate venues, where he can experiment with and debut new tracks.   In September 2012 Bissen celebrated the 100th episode of his radioshow and podcast "TranceAtlantic" live at the National Underground in New York. The 8-hour event was broadcast live on ETN.fm. TranceAtlantic is well past its 300th episode now, and is currently broadcast weekly on iHeartRadio, ETN.fm, 1Mix Radio, Party 103, Interference Radio and Party 107, with more syndications forthcoming.   A full-time music professional, Bissen has written and collaborated on close to two thousand pieces of music and projects in his decade-long music career. Bissen got his start in the music business when he moved to New York City to work as a composer and engineer in the music for advertising industry. He formed his own music production and licensing company MetaTechnik soon after, which now boasts two offices in New York and Los Angeles. At MetaTechnik, Bissen has produced award-winning music for over 150 major national and international television shows and commercials. Due to this fact, his work is heard by tens of millions of people every week.   By staying focused and consistently enhancing his sound and music, Bissen continues to carve his very own niche, with his versatility and far-reaching talents now penetrating almost all facets of the music industry, and growing every day.       About The DJ Sessions - “The DJ Sessions” is a Twitch/Mixcloud "Featured Partner” live streaming/podcast series featuring electronic music DJ's/Producers via live mixes/interviews and streamed/distributed to a global audience. Ruth B. - "Moments in Between" from the 2021 album Moments in Between on Reb Music Productions / Downtown Records. Ethiopian-Canadian singer/songwriter Ruth B. explores the complexities of being a woman in her mid-twenties on her sophomore album Moments In Between. This is especially resonant on the title track, a wistful, laid-back song that really highlights Ruth's soulful voice. The new LP was executive produced by Patrick Wimberly (Beyonce, Solange, Blood Orange, Ellie Goulding). “Writing songs has always been therapeutic for me,” she says via a press release, “and I hope that hearing my songs helps other people in the same way. Aria walked into a foundation board room a few years ago and Ruth Turner stopped speaking to the person next to her, pointed at Aria and said, “I have a dress in that same fabric.” And so began their friendship! What started as an enthusiastic conversation over Ghanaian fabrics and clothes designed by a mutual friend, turned into one of Aria's most important relationships of her adulthood.   Ruth B. Turner graduated from Nazareth College of Rochester receiving a B.S. in Social Work and a MSW from University of Buffalo. She also holds a MS. Ed from SUNY Brockport. She is a licensed Clinical Social Worker who has served the profession for over 24 years.    Dr. Turner is known as a champion of children and families in Rochester, New York which she calls home. As an educator, she has committed herself to the principles of restorative practices, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Under her administrative leadership with Rochester City School District (RCSD), she worked to support the most vulnerable students and was an advocate for all students and families. In her tenure, she led the revision of the student code of conduct. She also led the district in adopting restorative justice initiatives in terms of student discipline as was a key leader of anti-racism work for the district.    For over 13 years she served the Rochester City School District as a social worker, Director and Executive Director for student support services. Before her departure, she served as the Chief for Student Support and Social-Emotional Learning. Before joining RCSD she led the foster care and adoption unit for the Urban League of Rochester. She also spent several years as a trainer for the Center for the Development of Human Services where she focused on child welfare services.    Ruth's commitment to the intersection of social work, social welfare, and education began very early in life, rooted in her experience immigrating to the US as a political refugee from Eritrea. It was the kindness and diligence of a social worker who aided her successful transition during one of the most challenging periods in her life. Through the support and advocacy of individuals like this social worker, Ruth graduated from the RCSD and attended college as a 1st generation college student. She has never forgotten the power of support in mitigating the effects of adverse events in childhood, that can aid in helping individuals to reach their fullest potential.   Dr. Turner is married to Dr. William R. Turner Jr., Assistant Professor of African and African American Studies at SUNY Brockport. Together they have three children.   Links: Black Mental Health: https://nami.org/About-NAMI/NAMI-News/2020/NAMI-s-Statement-On-Recent-Racist-Incidents-and-Mental-Health-Resources-for-African-Americans?gclid=CjwKCAjwieuGBhAsEiwA1Ly_ne82WI56amGffdzBDOoCzPzwpg9t5RU0SQ3h7QKCc6fP5u7fYZih_RoC5UQQAvD_BwE Eritrea War of Independence: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eritrean_War_of_Independence High Expectations: https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2017/10/24/study-finds-high-school-teachers-have-differing-expectations-black-and-white https://hub.jhu.edu/2016/03/30/racial-bias-teacher-expectations-black-white/ https://www.edweek.org/leadership/teachers-lower-expectations-for-black-students-may-become-self-fulfilling-prophecies-study-finds/2017/10 John Turner: https://theithacan.org/writer/john-turner/page/4/   Keywords: Black, educator, social worker, mental health, social emotional health, children, family, Eritrea, refugee, doctor of Education, high expectations, political refugee, support, idea of self, self-determination, social justice, civil rights

We had the pleasure of interviewing Ruth B. over Zoom video! 25-year-old multi-platinum Ethiopian-Canadian singer and songwriter Ruth B. is excited to share her new album Moments In Between, executive produced by Patrick Wimberly (Beyonce, Solange, Blood Orange, Ellie Goulding), on Downtown Records / The Orchard. Moments In Between is a raw emotional accounting of the anxieties and uncertainty Ruth faces as a woman in her mid-twenties, giving voice to her inner strife via warm vocals, shapeshifting textures, and hazy harmonies. The new album serves as the follow-up to Ruth's gold-certified 2017 debut Safe Haven – a critically acclaimed release featuring “Lost Boy,” a Peter Pan-inspired piano ballad that went viral when she was still a teenager. Ruth made a number of unexpected breakthroughs when creating Moments In Between: from revelations of being scared to ask for help (“Princess Peach”) to reflections on self-growth (“Situation”) and romance (“Holiday”). On Moments In Between, Ruth pushes her musical and personal dynamic to a new level of boldness and sophistication, embracing her most beautifully strange impulses while delivering her most impactful work to date. From woozy R&B and pop beats to guitar driven tracks and folk-like reveries, the songs on Moments In Between showcase Ruth B.'s ability to seamlessly traverse a multitude of musical stylings, and will surely add to her 1.5 billion artist streams to date. Ruth B. credits her songwriting and storytelling abilities to her upbringing as the daughter of Ethiopian immigrants, listening to the music of her parents' homeland alongside American icons like Stevie Wonder and Lauryn Hill. For this project, Ruth also worked with producers Justin Raisen (Angel Olsen, Santigold) and Doug Schadt (Maggie Rogers, Ashe) who encouraged her to dig deeper in the writing and recording process than she ever has before. “Writing songs has always been therapeutic for me,” says Ruth, “and I hope that hearing my songs helps other people in the same way. Whether they're feeling lonely or heartbroken or happy, I want them to know that someone else understands what they're going through.” Last month, Ruth B. announced her upcoming bespoke Global Digital Tour, in partnership with Moment House and sponsored by Music.com. Moment House is a premium digital live platform that connects artists and their core fans for global, elevated ticketed experiences — called Moments. Ruth will be hosting exclusive Moments for several different areas/regions: North & South America, Asia, Australia & New Zealand, and Europe, UK & Africa. Full dates below.
