LJ was initially drafted to the Baltimore Orioles in the 3rd Round of the 2008 MLB Draft and was ranked as the 5th best prospect in their farm season heading into the 2012 Season. LJ would then be traded to the Houston Astros in 2013 with Josh Hader in exchange for Bud Norris at that year's Trade Deadline. During his time in the big leagues, he made a name for himself and also got to play alongside some of the game's brightest stars, including Jose Altuve, Adam Jones, and JD Martinez. After a game where things fell apart in the fifth inning, the Dodgers beat the Astros 5-2 in the first of four match ups this year. Benches cleared after Joe Kelly threw at several Astros hitters. No punches were thrown, but still they are not supposed to do this during the COVID-19 shortened season. We will see if there are any suspensions resulting from this. Welcome back to Radio Scouts Podcast. Thanks to a multitude of Blue Jays moves on Tuesday, we have so much to get into, so let's not waste another minute.(0:00) Intro(0:13) THE DECISION! We announce the verdict on the Darrell Dynasty League trade that Mike and Andrew discussed at the end of the show last week: Carlos Correa for Bo Bichette, Nate Pearson, and Touki Toussaint.(2:43) Kevin Pillar OUT; shipped out of town for some stuff: RP Derek Law, 2B/OF Alen Hanson, and SP prospect, Juan De Paula. We also briefly touch on the Kendrys Morales trade, which broke after we wrapped recording last week.(6:47) Anthony Alford IN; recalled from AAA Buffalo. What's the plan with him? We discuss this.(8:53) Randal Grichuk inks a 5-year/$52M extension with the Jays. We agree collectively that the potential is there for some pretty good value, though this deal is not devoid of risk. We also speculate if this extension is a direct response to the seemingly evident shift in the contractual landscape of Major League Baseball, and who might be the next player to be extended.(20:13) Socrates Brito (80-grade name) acquired shortly after the Pillar trade broke. Flipped for minor leaguer, Rodrigo Orozco.(20:52) Bud Norris released from his minor-league deal(21:13) How have the Blue Jays looked through the first 6 games of the season? We offer our thoughts, while not reading much into such a small sample size. What should we expect out of this team this season? Rotation talk (Matt Shoemaker, Trent Thornton)Brandon Drury(29:08) Vlad is healthy again and back to playing baseball. How long does he spend in the minors before getting the inevitable call to the bigs?(30:32) Notable minor league assignments ('A' Lansing: Eric Pardinho, Jordan Groshans, Josh Winckowski, Otto Lopez, Alejandro Kirk, Mc Gregory Contreras; 'A+' Dunedin: Nate Pearson - probably not long for High-A).(32:43) Totally appropriate and necessary banter(35:28) Parting thoughts on the Kevin Pillar trade(38:35) OutroAs always, thanks for listening.Follow us on Twitter!Recording date: Apr. 2, 2019Intro/outro music:Track: Disfigure - Blank [NCS Release]Music provided by NoCopyrightSoundsWatch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7ZsBPK656sFree Download/stream: http://ncs.io/blankSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/radioscouts)

Welcome to Episode 13 of Nooks and Crannies! Blue Jays Season Preview: a retail nightmare This week’s episode was delayed because, well, it was just one of those weeks. Kicking things off awkwardly, Matt sings the girls softball cheer “Little Red Rooster” which he parlays seamlessly into a lefty diatribe about how pleased he is that the Blue Jay’s have become the first MLB team to raise the salaries of their minor league players. Lisa and Sam helped Matty, the bunting machine, Sanderson with the much anticipated Toronto Blue Jay’s 2019 Season Preview SPECTACULAR! (5:50) This season is full of storylines but we all feel like the team is going to be awful but also weirdly hopeful as the team is clearly in rebuilding mode. Lisa it turns out would make a ruthless ‘new style’ GM, Sam is a big fan of the notorious bully Bud Norris, and Matty likes to play favorites especially with his undersized 2nd Base-People like Devon Travis. After the season preview, Matty the stuffy-nosed podcast co-host, returns with a podcast recommendation section (37:01) suggesting that you all listen to At the Letters, Birds all Day, Artificial Turf Wars and Around the Nest (the Jays minor league podcast) *****TRIGGER WARNING: Human Bodily Dysfunctions***** (40:53) Alright folks, fair warning starts here but Lisa and Sam told the funniest story yet renditioned on Nooks and Crannies, but if you are made queasy or uncomfortable by tales of human digestion gon wrong, do not listen to this one. You have been warned…The Retail Nightmare Story starts here (42:10). Last segment; bit of a pallet cleanser I hope (49:19) is a really heartwarming happy spring message from Ol Matty, including mention of his Radical 80’s Mixtape (up now on Spotify). R.J. Anderson of CBS stops by to preview the Tampa Bay Rays in the final AL East Preview episode. He talks about the "opener's" contributions to the Rays' success in 2018, the lack of spending this offseason, the various strengths and weaknesses of the rotation and offence, and visits from ghosts in team hotels. Greg and Josh also discuss the rash of injuries to the bullpen (Ryan Tepera, John Axford, Bud Norris) and the effect that will have on the relief corps that the club takes north, the latest setback for Dalton Pompey, the extension signed by Eloy Jimenez and what that could mean for Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and the potential return of Jordan Romano to the Blue Jays. The latest Jays Journal round table featuring Chris Henderson (@baseball4brains; musician and site expert at Jays Journal), Geoff Falbo (@gfalbo13; writer/blogger formerly with Deep Leagues), and Eric Rosenhek (@TheHek; writer and host of Definitely Not Jays Talk). We discussed: Vlad Guerrero's oblique strain and the issue of personal conditioning, the glorious renaissance of Bo Bichette, Anthony Alford's quest for true baseball redemption, Bud Norris and the issue of veteran influence in the dugout, what happens if Marcus Stroman and Aaron Sanchez put their pitching woes behind them, the future of the starting rotation, when this team officially becomes Mark Shapiro's baby, and what happens if the bottom falls out early and all we're left with is a minor league product at major league prices during August. Ep. 100 and we have an all-time best sound bite. It's legendary. Former Blue Jay, Chris Colabello, joined Barry and Matt to catch up on what he's been up to. Cola is quick to laugh at his amazing dog, Clutch, who snores throughout the entire chat. On the First Pitch: Does Anthony Alford’s coming out party muddy the waters in the Blue Jays OF. What does this mean for Kevin Pillar? Why does Dalton Pompey’s injury mean with regards to his spot on the Blue Jays? Ask Barry Davis chats the youth movement on the Blue Jays and the curious case of Bud Norris is examined. What of Bo? Will he be called up this year? Jude MacDonald joins us On The Ice. The guys chat about The Maple Leafs “toughness.” What team would the Leafs draw in round 1? The boys track the season of Frederik Andersen. The results of the Fair or Foul Poll are revealed. All that and much more!

Weekly Toronto Blue Jays Talk With an offseason and Spring Training that hasn't necessarily made fans more confident in the Jays reaching another postseason run, there's still plenty of talking points that deserve our attention. The Blue Jays have recently made two signings that are both puzzling in their own separate ways. First, the team signed former member of the Red Sox, Clay Buchholz, to a one year $3M deal. Buchholz, a name familiar with Jays fans way back with accusations of him doctoring balls during his tenure with Boston, will seemingly slide into the Jays' rotation, leaving up-and-comer, Ryan Borucki, as the odd man out. Further, the Jays signed Bud Norris to a one year $3M minor league deal. Norris, known for his controversial comments regarding non-American players, raised eyebrows from fans and doesn't seem to fit the model that Atkins has claimed he wishes to build. Will these signings be something the Jays regret? Joining host Adam Corsair touch on these and other topics is the Outta The Park crew- Barry Davis and Matt McFarland - to talk all things Blue Jays.
