BT and Sal dove into Juan Soto's stunning comments to the New York Post, where he unequivocally stated that Starling Marte is the "real deal" and the "actual captain" of the Mets. Sal argued that this was a direct shot at Francisco Lindor, who is widely considered the team's leader. BT pushed back, suggesting it was more of a compliment to Marte than a slight to Lindor. The two hosts debated the true meaning behind Soto's pointed words and what it says about the Mets clubhouse dynamics, with Sal insisting that Soto's honesty is exposing a major leadership issue.
In a heated segment, BT and Sal dissected the Mets' leadership, focusing on Francisco Lindor and a comment from Juan Soto about Starling Marte being the "actual captain" of the team. Sal argued that Soto's remark was a direct jab at Lindor's leadership, while caller Elvin offered a fiery perspective on the cultural rivalry between Dominican and Puerto Rican players that could be at play. The hosts and callers debated whether Lindor's massive contract and perceived lack of accountability have led to him being knocked around and undermined in the clubhouse, ultimately raising serious questions about the Mets' overall team dynamic.
Sal and BT dove into Juan Soto's seemingly innocuous comments about Starling Marte, interpreting them as a direct shot at Francisco Lindor's leadership. The discussion spiraled into three key questions: Do the comments reveal a deeper clubhouse rift? Why has Lindor never truly been embraced by the fanbase and media? and Can you stay in a work fantasy league after you've left the company? Sal believes Soto's praise for Marte—calling him "the real deal" and "the leader"—is a clear sign that Lindor isn't the captain everyone assumes he is. The hosts and callers debated whether the comments were intentionally malicious or simply refreshing honesty, ultimately highlighting a perceived lack of accountability and direction within the Mets organization.
Juan Soto went on to say how great of a leader and captain Starling Marte is to the entire Mets clubhouse! To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Visit https://podcastchoices.com/adchoices
The Mets just launched six home runs in one explosive win—led by Jeff McNeil and Mark Vientos with two each, plus a solo shot from Pete Alonso and one from Starling Marte. It's back‑to‑back victories, 33 hits across two games, and sweet relief in the wild‑card chase—2½ games up on Cincinnati! They're still 6 games behind the Phillies for the division. A huge series kicks off Monday vs. Philly at Citi Field. Plus: buzz is heating up about a potential call‑up of standout arm Jonah Tong to bolster the rotation. Brandon Tierney unleashes his take on the New York Mets' recent acquisition of left-handed reliever Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles. Tierney assesses the trade as a solid "B" move, highlighting Soto's hard-throwing style, high strikeout rate, and potential to immediately bolster the Mets' bullpen. He expresses relief that the Mets are finally making moves to address their inconsistent relief pitching and sees this as the "first domino" to fall in what could be a busy trade deadline for the team, especially with rumors swirling around Starling Marte.
Carlos Mendoza addressed Starling Marte's return to the roster and explained how the team will ease him back into playing time, primarily using him at DH with limited outfield duty. He confirmed Marte's knee is feeling better post-injection. Mendoza also discussed Brandon Waddell's injury timeline after his prior fall on the mound, addressed Jeff McNeil's increased center field reps, and spoke about the infield combinations involving Ronny Mauricio and Brett Baty. He gave updates on Francisco Lindor's recent struggles and health, commented on Tyrone Taylor's role, and answered a Spanish-language question about Marte's significance to the team's identity. The Mets press conference on July 18, 2025, featured updates from manager Carlos Mendoza on multiple injured players, bullpen usage, rotation plans, and progress at Triple-A. Mendoza provided timelines for Jesse Winker and Starling Marte, confirmed Max Kranick will undergo Tommy John surgery, and commented on the roles of Ronny Mauricio and Francisco Alvarez. He also discussed lineup and rotation strategy, including Kodai Senga's scheduling and Sean Manaea's pitch count. Former manager Terry Collins then took questions reflecting on his time managing David Wright, sharing heartfelt stories about Wright's leadership, return from injury, and impact on the clubhouse, ahead of Wright's number retirement ceremony. Carlos Mendoza portion: 00:00 – “What does it mean to you as a manager to have a bona fide lefty that's established back there now?” 00:51 – “How close are Winker and Marte to returning?” 01:13 – “Winker… is there anything additional going on as far as his side?” 01:37 – “Is Raley just a full go? Are there any restrictions?” 02:15 – “Had you heard back about Max Kranick, whether he's getting Tommy John surgery?” 02:33 – “How much of a blow is this for him?” 03:10 – “Has [Ronny] Mauricio resumed running or baseball activity?” 03:31 – “You have Mauricio in the lineup against a lefty today. What have you seen from that side of the plate?” 04:03 – “What else do you guys want to see from Alvarez at Syracuse before he gets back here?” 05:08 – “What have you seen from [player in] the two-hole the last three, four games?” 05:47 – “What was the thinking behind pushing Senga back into the next series?” 06:22 – “So within that big picture, is it Manaea going Wednesday before the off day?” 06:53 – “On a personal level, how much are you looking forward to tomorrow with the David Wright ceremony?” 07:17 – “Will Manaea and others start to lengthen out their pitch counts over the next few starts?” Terry Collins portion: 08:25 – “When you think back on your time managing, if you could point to one thing that sticks out, what would that be?” 09:19 – “Was there ever a time you were mad at him or upset with him?” 11:03 – “Where do you feel David Wright made his biggest impact in the clubhouse?” 12:30 – “Can you reflect on the emotions you felt when David hit that home run in Philadelphia after his return?” 13:33 – “What was the World Series run like with him? How important was it to have him along for that?” 14:25 – “What was it about him that players gravitated to so much?” 15:22 – “What was it like meeting him for the first time, and the genesis of him becoming captain?” Learn more about your ad choices. The prodigal son returns—Farace is back behind the mic and instantly claims credit for the Mets' latest turnaround. Rodriguez, Keith, and Producer Joe (as always, holding things down behind the wall) join him for another jam-packed episode, and the Mets have actually given them something to smile about heading into the All-Star break.First up: David Peterson is officially an All-Star, joining Edwin Diaz, Lindor, and Alonso on the NL squad—because nothing says “2024 Mets” like David Peterson with an ASG patch. Meanwhile, the biggest snub in baseball? Juan Soto, and you can expect a full-blown Farace rant aimed straight at Michael Kay, who just can't let go and still monitors Soto like he's waiting for him to put on pinstripes again. Michael, buddy, it's over. Let it go.The Mets just took 2 of 3 from both the Brewers and the Yankees at Citi Field, then split the first two in Baltimore to start the road trip. Offense is finally waking up—especially the Fab Four of Nimmo, Lindor, Soto, and Alonso, who are all starting to heat up and look dangerous in the lineup. On the mound, reinforcements are coming: Senga and Manaea are both set to return this weekend, and the rotation is finally getting healthy at the right time. The crew will debate—do you trade Starling Marte or keep the outfield depth for the stretch run? With the Royals up next and the All-Star break just around the corner, the boys have plenty to dig into.Expect dry humor, a little therapy for Keith's stats addiction, Producer Joe's random hot takes, and Rodriguez demanding respect for the Citi Field crowd. Farace will probably find a way to make it all about himself—and Michael Kay. Let's put it in the books—no Yankee tears allowed. #PiitB #PutItInTheBooks #Mets
Zach, Jack, and Andrew discuss the loss of the Mets pitching depth, struggles with runners in scoring position, the starting rotation post All-Star break, Brandon Nimmo's hot streak and move up in the lineup, the implications of the Starling Marte and Jesse Winker injuries, who we would not like to see traded, Juan Soto's raging hot June, All-Star snubs, and the future of MLB celebrations.
Shaun and Tiki talk about the Yankees finally moving to second base and Starling Marte being placed in the injured list.
Tiki, Shaun, Tommy and Rosie talk about the Mike Brown press conference, the Yankees handling of injuries, the Mets placing Starling Marte on the Injured List, the proper way to describe a shirt and Tiki's issue with a bat at his house.
Ahead of the Mets series against the Orioles, Carlos Mendoza speaks with Keith Raad and discusses the Mets two new all-stars, the return of Jesse Winker, the injury to Starling Marte, and other moves made by the team earlier today.
We talked about the Mets and Yankees and Starling Marte getting injured while seemingly taking a pitch. The Mets should have Sean Manaea and Kodai Senga back before the all star break for one start each. Jerry didn't feel any buzz from this Subway Series. The Knicks still have not had a press conference for new head coach Mike Brown. We talked about women taking down their shorts at the beach, but how that would be unacceptable at a Target. C-Lo returns for his final update of the day and starts with the sounds of the Yankees beating the Mets. Cody Bellinger had a tremendous catch and then doubled up Lindor at first. Last Thursday, Keith Hernandez told us he recently needed to use a plunger and it worked out great. Joe Benigno's Saturday show now starts at 5am and it appears to be too early for him. The Moment of The Day: Al is going to Montana but has nothing planned. In the final segment of the show, Jerry feels like he may have gotten fleeced.
Hour 1 - Boomer & Gio are out this week, so Jerry Recco and Willie Colon hosted, starting with the Subway Series, where the Mets nearly beat the Yanks if not for Cody Bellinger's incredible catch. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was tossed arguing bad strike calls, and Pete Alonso is skipping the HR Derby. Juan Soto's All-Star snub was also a topic. C-Lo gave his first update, including Dave Sims' call of the Bellinger catch, as the Yankees snapped a six-game losing streak. Evan Roberts is vacationing in Paris, posting Mets win videos and a Rico Brogna podcast. Al is off to Montana with no plans, and Jerry discovered professional pillow fighting. The hour concluded by discussing Aaron Boone and the Yankees' struggles, suggesting they won't run away with the AL East. Hour 2 - A caller to Sal Licata blamed WFAN and the media for players struggling in New York, citing their success after leaving. Willie Colon shared his own experiences with media criticism during his time with the Jets and in Pittsburgh. C-Lo then delivered an update, highlighting the Yankees' win over the Mets, including another Aaron Judge home run and Cody Bellinger's impressive catch and double play. There was also a segment on Anthony Volpe's father confronting fans in the stands who were criticizing his son, with audio of Sal's exchange with the caller on player criticism. The hour concluded with a caller mentioning Montana's attractions, specifically that you can drive to North and South Dakota from there. Hour 3 - The show continued its discussion on player criticism, especially for high-salaried athletes, balancing expectations with the reality of performance. Upcoming Jets and Giants seasons, with Aaron Rodgers' Week 1 return to MetLife, were also reviewed. C-Lo delivered an update, but not before Jerry and a caller had a brief argument. Evan Roberts recorded a "Rico Brogna" podcast from Paris while scoring a game at the airport, and Pete Alonso will be in the All-Star game but not the HR Derby. The hour ended with Jerry introducing a guessing game about an X post and a conversation with the new intern. Hour 4 - The show covered Starling Marte's injury and the Mets' anticipated return of Sean Manaea and Kodai Senga, while Jerry noted a lack of buzz for the Subway Series. The Knicks still haven't held a press conference for new head coach Mike Brown. A humorous discussion ensued about social norms regarding public attire. C-Lo's final update focused on the Yankees' win over the Mets, featuring Cody Bellinger's excellent defense. Other topics included Keith Hernandez's recent success with a plunger, Joe Benigno's seemingly too-early 5 AM Saturday show, and "The Moment of The Day" highlighting Al's unplanned Montana trip. The segment concluded with Jerry feeling "fleeced."
Season 8, Episode 6 is here, and while Farace is off the grid watching his son's championship game—Angels vs. Mets, because of course that's the matchup—Rodriguez, Keith, and Producer Joe are stepping up to the mic. Well, Joe's technically behind the wall, but we'll pretend he's contributing more than just echoing Keith's stats. The Mets snapped a three-game losing streak last night with a solid win over the Red Sox, thanks to Brett Baty finally waking up at the plate and Tylor Megill looking like a guy who wants to stay in this rotation permanently. The Mets now sit at 29-19 and are still holding strong near the top of the division, despite the recent hiccups. It might be time to officially say it: the Mets have five pretty good starters. This rotation has been the unexpected rock of the team, which is saying something when your offense and defense have been running on vibes and hope against teams like the Yankees and Red Sox.Starling Marte was bumped up to the two-hole yesterday, which sounds good on paper… until you watch him take three pitches nowhere near the zone and walk back to the dugout like he forgot what a bat is for. The fellas will discuss how long that experiment should last—though with Keith's patience, he's probably ready to send Marte to the seventh spot already.Luisangel Acuña continues to try to make his case in the bigs, while in the minors, names like Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat are lurking—just waiting for someone to slip up. The competition is real, and with Rodriguez scouting the Syracuse box scores daily, expect a strong opinion or seven.Francisco Alvarez has returned and is now splitting duties with Luis Torrens, which gives us all the opportunity to watch Mets Twitter melt down every other night depending on who's behind the plate. But hey, if the pitchers keep throwing gems, maybe the platoon is working—though don't expect Producer Joe to commit to a side. He's still emotionally recovering from Tomas Nido. And then there's Juan Soto. A little jog here, a few boos in the Bronx there, and suddenly the guy's a lightning rod. Is it overblown, or is this just the beginning of Mets fans getting real acquainted with the “Soto Experience”? We'll break it down with the usual amount of sarcasm, overreaction, and probably a conspiracy theory from Rodriguez.Coming up next: nine straight at Citi Field—three against the Dodgers, three against the White Sox, and three more against the Rockies. If there was ever a stretch to gain some momentum, this is it... unless Producer Joe jinxes it by calling for a sweep again.Join us tonight as we talk Mets, roast each other, and try to convince ourselves that a quiet week in Flushing is a real thing. Let's put it in the books.

It's officially NFL Draft Day 1! The Philadelphia Eagles have the 32nd pick in the NFL Draft after winning Super Bowl 59. Last year, the Eagles selected CB Quinyon Mitchell out of Toledo with the 22nd overall pick. Who will the Eagles take with the final pick on Day 1? Will they trade up or trade out? The Philadelphia Phillies get swept out of New York by the Mets after losing yesterday 4-3 in extra innings. Zack Wheeler pitched 6 strong innings, giving up just 2 runs and striking out 9, but the offense failed to convert a bases loaded, 1 out situation in the Top of the 10th before Pete Alonso and Starling Marte won the game for the Mets in the bottom of the inning. The Phillies have lost 4 straight, and are now 13-12 on the season. They're off today before a 3 game weekend series in Chicago with the Cubs.
The New York Mets are the hottest team in baseball! We recap their incredible 7-0 homestand, capped by a 4-3 extra-inning win over the Cardinals. Pete Alonso delivers in the clutch, and Starling Marte walks it off. The Mets now lead the league with 18 wins and sit 11 games over .500 — the best mark in MLB. They overachieved with Acuna last season. Are they underachieving so far in 2025?7.Tanner Bibee got rocked by the Angels of all teams.8.Jesse Winker went 2 for 4 with two triples. Kind of a weird stat line. Winker, in my view, is sneaky good as a fifth outfielder, but I don't think the Mets agree as he's clearly in a platoon role at DH with Starling Marte.Segment 3 – Waiver WireSegment 4 – Closer ReportClose

No matter how you slice it, the Jets are 2-4, so Gio doesn't care if they're in every game and all the games are close. The season is not over, but they have a lot to fix. A caller is looking forward to the Jets season 14 years from now when Jordan Love is the QB. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Howie Rose as Starling Marte singled in Pete Alonso for a little insurance. The Yankees beat the Guardians thanks in part to a HR by Giancarlo Stanton. We heard Kevin Harlan on the call as Aaron Rodgers threw an interception late that sealed the game for the Bills. In the postgame press conference, Rodgers was basically blaming Mike Williams for the interception. Bill Belichick was on the Manningcast and backed Rob Saleh while also saying he doesn't like the Jets (except for Fireman Ed). He clearly does not like Woody Johnson. Robert Kraft talked about the day Brady left to go to Tampa. He said it was like ‘losing a child' and that Brady cried the whole time. In the final segment of the hour, Gio talked about the ‘For You' section of X and what it's giving him. There's a pic going around of Diddy, J-Lo and Jay-Z that is probably fake.
Hour 1 Lots going on with the local teams but we started with the Mets win over the Dodgers to tie the series 1-1. Gio said the Mets are walking way too many guys. Vientos said he took it personally when they internationally walked Lindor to get to him with the bases loaded. There are a few Mets who are trying too hard at the plate. That's Francisco Alvarez and Jose Iglesias. The Yankees beat the Guardians in game 1 and Carlos Rodon pitched great. You got homers from Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton and Weaver shut it down in the pen. Pete Alonso had a great slide into home and a great stretch at first on the huge double play. Jerry is here with his first update of the day and starts with the sounds of the Jets losing to the Bills, 23-20. There were way too many penalties in this game. Rodgers' interception late was a key part of the loss. Jerry has the sounds of John Sterling as Juan Soto homered. We heard from Howie Rose as Mark Vientos hit a grand slam. In the final segment of the hour, Gio said he is irrationally hating Shohei Ohtani. Gio remembers Mike and the Mad Dog loving ratings talk as to who had more viewers yesterday, the Mets, Yankees or Jets. Hour 2 The Jets lost to the Bills last night but the offense did look better. Breece Hall had his best game of the season. But the penalties and mistakes are still there. The interceptions at the end of games are still there. Rodgers is definitely going to miss games this season because of an injury because he is getting hit a lot. They also have a second half issue on offense. If not for a miracle hail mary to close the first half, this game isn't even close. There were a ton of penalties in the game and they had to go back to New York to see what they saw. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of the Jets missing 2 FGs. Aaron Rodgers talked about the interception and he seems to be blaming Mike Williams. Carlos Rodon had himself a nice night going 6 innings of 3 hit ball with 9 K's. Jerry has the sounds of Howie Rose as Francisco Lindor led off the game with a HR. In the final segment of the hour, this Sunday night's Jets game against the Steelers is going to tell us a lot about the future of the Jets. Boomer said the Jets have lost 3 games by a total of 10 points. They are in every game, unlike the Dallas Cowboys who have been blown out. Hour 3 Boomer said Aaron Rodgers' arm is still strong and he can still make great throws. Rodgers is taking a ton of his with the Jets. No matter how you slice it, the Jets are 2-4, so Gio doesn't care if they're in every game and all the games are close. The season is not over, but they have a lot to fix. A caller is looking forward to the Jets season 14 years from now when Jordan Love is the QB. Hour 4 We talked about the Mets tying the series 1-1. C-Mac said the only way the Mets season is ruined, is if the Yankees beat the Mets in the World Series. Gio disagrees with this. Boomer is only focused on the Dodgers and is not worried about the World Series right now. Boomer wants to enjoy the ride as a Mets fan. Jerry returns for his final up ...

Gio wonders what John Mara thinks about Brian Daboll. Boomer said he's an old school coach that gets mad with reporters and gets mad with players and will get in their face. He's the opposite of Rob Saleh. Boomer thinks an owner would like someone that coaches hard like Bill Parcells. We took some calls about last night's Eagles choke job as they lost to the Falcons. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of Monday Night Football as the Eagles blew it and the Falcons won. Brian Daboll said the offense in general made good improvements from week 1 to week 2. Kurt Warner said Daniel Jones stood out to him in week 2. Micah Parsons said the effort was not there from the Cowboys. The Mets won in walk off fashion on a Starling Marte single in the 10th. In the final segment of the hour, Al reposted a video of annoying guys at a Springsteen show, and the person in the video responded that Springsteen music saved his life.
Boomer is not a fan of the Mayor of NYC. It's time to play Guess The Spread for week 3 in the NFL. We also talked about the Giants going to Cleveland this week and how tough a game it's going to be for them. Boomer said there is going to be huge pressure for the Giants to hire Bill Belichick if this season goes south. Jerry returns for an update but first we talked about the rock band, Bush. We wondered when prostitution would become legal in the U.S. with weed and sports gambling legalized. We also talked about past rumors about Eddie Murphy. Jerry finally gets to his update and starts with the Falcons beating the Eagles thanks in part to a Saquon drop that prevented them from running the clock out. Chad Ochocinco does not like the benching of Bryce Young and called it ‘insubordination'. The Mets beat the Nationals in 10 on a base hit from Starling Marte. The Moment of The Day: Mike McDaniel has a hard time explaining what Tua is doing in concussion protocol. In the final segment of the show, the guys in Jane's Addiction got in a fight on stage this weekend. Diddy was arrested at a hotel in NYC for sex trafficking and racketeering.
Hour 1 The Eagles lost to the Falcons last night because Saquon Barkley dropped a short pass that would have essentially ended the game. That allowed Kirk Cousins to go down the field and throw a game winning TD. The Panthers have benched Bryce Young in favor of Andy Dalton. This also happened when Frank Reich was the coach in Carolina but he was forced to put Young back in. So the Panthers could be looking for another quarterback at the same time the Giants are. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the sounds of Kevin Harlan as the Falcons beat the Eagles last night after a crucial drop by Barkley. Rob Saleh still has no update on Haason Reddick. Brian Daboll is not in panic mode yet as we are only heading into week 3. Boomer said they need to stop the run. Mike Francesa said Daboll looks like ‘a guy that wants to jump off a bridge'. Mike McDaniel gave an update on Tua's situation. Starling Marte had the game winning hit in the 10th for the Mets. In the final segment of the hour, Gio had another gout flareup yesterday on the golf course. Hour 2 Gio wonders what John Mara thinks about Brian Daboll. In the final segment of the hour, Al reposted a video of annoying guys at a Springsteen show, and the person in the video responded that Springsteen music saved his life. Hour 3 We talked about the Giants starting 0-2 and what that means for playoff chances. Gio said the Giants at 0-2 is a different animal than the Bengals being 0-2 right now. We talked about the terrible turf at MetLife as the Jets play home on Thursday night. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of the Falcons beating the Eagles thanks to a Saquon drop and a Jalen Hurts pick. We heard from Rob Saleh and Brian Daboll about this past weekend's games. Jerry has audio from Evan & Tiki with Tommy and Morash going back and forth about Daboll. The Panthers are benching Bryce Young for Andy Dalton. The Mets beat the Nationals thanks to Marte and Iglesias. In the final segment of the hour, Gio's 3-year old is obsessed with halloween. She carries a skeleton with her everywhere. Gio's dog, Elvis, is going to be Elvis for halloween. And he will be in the Sayville dog parade. Gio also said you have to hate your life if you want to be on a school board. Hour 4 Boomer is not a fan of the Mayor of NYC. It's time to play Guess The Spread for week 3 in the NFL.
