The perception is that the New York Mets have to add at least one more starting pitcher this offseason. Host Ryan Finkelstein examines whether the Mets rotation really needs another addition or if Max Scherzer was enough for them to be set for Opening Day. Jacob deGrom and Scherzer present more upside than any other duo in baseball, but can the Mets get enough production out of Carlos Carrasco, Taijuan Walker, Tylor Megill and David Peterson to make it through the 2022 season? Hosted by Paul C. Cuthbert and Robert Kuney. It is a New Year and the Honchos welcomed 2022 with a brand new showgram. New year, same old yuks and nonsense. It was also the debut of Rob's new podcast equipment so it was just a steaming pile of newness for the Honchos faithful. The show started with some holiday vacation recaps and then the Honchos celebrated episode 48 with a tribute to another number 48, Jacob deGrom. pitcher for the New York Mets. The showgram open ended with some Headlines, which included stupid criminals and Lego's first anus! Now that is a reason to listen friendos! The Honchos started the cavalcade of sports with a recap of the College Football Championship (hats off to the Dawgs of Georgia) and uncovered the real reason why the CFP will not expand beyond 4 teams until at least 2026.Next up was the NFL segment in which the Honchos ripped through the Week 18 games, which included the epic, all-timer between the Raiders and the Chargers to end the regular season. The Honchos then broke down the NFL playoff matchups for this weekend and made their predictions. Before leaving the NFL segment there was a look at which coaches were fired on "Black Monday," the 7 available head coaching jobs going into next season, and why on earth a successful coach like Brian Flores was fired by the Miami Dolphins. Because this was such a football-dominated show our usual NHL/NBA/MLB segment was reduced to a couple of quick hits on topics like the MLB lockout, the Yankees hiring the first woman to manage a professional baseball team, and the latest from the Ingleside Lakers. No matter how bloated our usual segments get there is always room on the buffet for the dessert that is the Dope of the Week and tonight was no exception. This week's winner was Jason Wright, President of the Washington Football Team. Follow everywhere @sportshonchos.

New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom was on the verge of one of the greatest seasons in MLB history in 2021, before the MVP-favorite went on the Injured List for the entirety of the second half. Now with an opt-out in his contract following next season, one of the most underpaid players in the game could demand a new deal to remain with the Mets past 2022. Host Ryan Finkelstein goes through the circumstances surrounding deGrom's first contract extension and how he ended up on one of the best bargain deals in the sport and discusses his need for a new contract. He also breaks down why the Mets could be hesitant to extend their ace after an injury-plagued campaign. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Sorry for the wait, Mets fans... we hope it's worth it. We're thrilled to welcome Nick Davis onto the podcast. Davis is the director and producer of Once Upon a Time in Queens, the recent four-part ESPN 30-for-30 documentary on the 1986 Mets. Davis joins us around the 21-minute mark and talks about the series with us. He discusses his film background and how he's previously crossed the intersection between documentaries and sports. He also talks about his vision for the project, how his own Mets fandom occasionally clouded his judgement during production, and shares some of the stories that were left on the cutting room floor. Nearly half of the series' original rough cut was cut due to runtime restrictions! There's lots more stories to share. Before he joined us, we talked about the Mets' elimination from postseason contention, Noah Syndergaard's brief return, Jacob deGrom's official shutdown, and catch up on the playoff races around the league. Davis was an extremely gracious guest and a very fun interview. We covered a lot of ground with him, far too much to describe here. We hope you enjoyed his insights as much as we did. You can follow him on Twitter @NickDavisProds. Enjoy the episode and we'll see you next week to break down the season's finale. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/sam-lebowitz9/support

This episode should have been all about the Mets salvaging their Giants series and avoiding a sweep, but JUST BEFORE we started recording a report came out that there's a 99.9% chance that Jacob deGrom will be shut down for the remainder of the season. As you can imagine, this changes things. Not that the pitching has been the problem, but any time you lose the greatest pitcher on the planet for the rest of your season it's going to cause ripples throughout the fanbase. Most notably, we almost got our first post-win Cuncel in history! Luckily the guys were able to talk KFC off of the ledge, but this isn't a good situation folks. The team is hanging on by a thread, we still have 2 more series with the Dodgers and Giants and not even a strongly worded tweet from Uncle Stevie can save us. This team has had a ton of issues that we've been able to overlook until now, but when the boss starts calling out the lineup you know it's gotten bad. Mid-August and 4.5 games out from first isn't too terrible, but if we want to have our meaningful games in September (and beyond) somethings gotta give. We discuss our biggest concerns in the division, which players need to start taking more accountability and pray that Lindor and Baez are back soon. It's looking very dark on the horizon and we're only half way through the storm but we gotta believe that this team can weather it enough to have a chance down the stretch.
