It's the Seamhead edition complete with Quirkjians, another installment of In The Cards plus Jeff's new dog has a baseball name. Mike Schur talks Tony Gwynn, Leslie Knope, Jarrod Dyson, Andy Dwyer, Manny Ramirez and Chad Ogea. Up until this point, we have had former players and managers as guests but we switched it all up this week to share the love of the game with someone who loves it as much as Tim. Mike Schur speaks of this game the way one speaks of their children, even describing baseball as a his "first love," which is relatable to all of us. Though we express our concerns of its validity, Bryse Wilson has had a solid string of successful starts since returning to the majors and today's was quite possibly his in a Pirates uniform. He held the Orioles to just 1-run while lasting 6 innings. Something he hasn't done much of this season is miss bats, but today he was also able to strike out 5.Last night we discussed how this offense goes wherever Bryan Reynolds and Oneil Cruz takes them. Funny how just 16 hours later they own us as 7 of the RBI's came from other players. What was nice to see today is Oneil Cruz in the cleanup role, though Tyler suggests maybe a better spot for him. Somehow or another we go down a rabbit hole discussing the better player between Greg Allen, Jarrod Dyson, & Jake Marisnick as well.
Christian Colón, 2015 MLB World Series Champion. Finding baseball at a young age and deciding to make the pursuit of becoming a professional athlete comes with sacrifices the average person doesn't endure. Christian dives into the moments of reflection where he explains his experience in being so heavily focused on baseball, that it made it difficult to be present or focus on other aspects of life. Christian gives advice on how to navigate life as an upcoming player giving examples and analogies from his own experiences. He has the gift to be able to relate to players of all levels, giving them perspective on how to get through tough moments on and off the field. Player Bio: Christian Colón is a Puerto Rican former professional baseball infielder. Played in MLB for the Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins, and Cincinnati Reds. Colón was an All-American shortstop. He was then selected with the fourth overall pick of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals. Serving as a utility player during the 2015 season. He entered Game 5 of the 2015 World Series (his first appearance in the playoffs) in the top of the 12th as a pinch hitter. After not making a plate appearance for four weeks, he hit a single to score Jarrod Dyson for the winning run to clinch the World Series, marking the first time in history that a player in his first at bat in a World Series delivered the Series-winning run.

Inspired by Jarrod Dyson, recent trade acquisition of the White Sox and 50th round draft pick, Jack and Jeremy take a look at some low round draft picks who made it to the majors...spoiler alert, there are not a lot of them! So the guys pivot to a discussion of some of their favorite trades. At the top of the show, the guys also recap some top moves from this year's deadline.
We'll always have Jarrod Dyson to remind us of this year's trade deadline. Jon and James take inventory of the Sox and other clubs after the trade deadline (:30). Why weren't the Sox disposed to making more trades? Do we find their lack of deals disturbing, young Bizner? Yolmer and Madrigal are back, yay (6:30)!! Why was there a meeting of the team's elder statesmen (10:15)? Was there merit to the Sox dealing for Clevinger, and was Kopech ever going to be really traded (14:00)? The big news of the week was Starling Marte getting slammed with an 80-day PED suspension. We discuss what to do with him, what are the long-term ramifications of this? In what types of leagues do you keep Marte and where can you let him loose? Also we do some replacement talk, although with a guy of Marte’s caliber, you’re not gonna find someone on the wire to solve all your problems. Travis Jankowski and Jarrod Dyson are the speed guys that we mention. If you’re fishing for upside, Austin Meadows is an interesting name. His profile is what has the scouts drooling, but his numbers aren’t bananas. The news that affects us is Marcus Semien’s broken wrist. Todd threw out a couple of nice sleeper names that you’ll want to listen for. I have my doubts about Jose Peraza, so we chat about the Reds situation for a bit. Our favorite topic, Closerpocalypse, rears it’s ugly head. Matt Bush looks to be the guy in Texas. Zach Britton got hurt and Brad Brach looks to be the guy. The National’s situation is dicey; Todd thinks it’s Kelley and I’m in the Koda Glover camp. Which crappy closer would you want? So after a pretty quiet offseason, the Royals started to make a few moves. In the last week, the big move was trading longtime Royal Jarrod Dyson to Seattle for right-handed pitcher Nathan Karns. As a fan, it's a tough move because Dyson has been in the organization so long and has had so many big moments as a Royal, but deep down, it makes some sense, as the Royals trade from surplus to fill a need.We looked at where the Royals are now with Karns in the fold, how Dyson's production may be covered, and how the Royals may approach their pitching staff now with a (likely) set five-man rotation.Follow the Vault at @KCBaseballVault. Disclaimer: We ended up talking a bit about the Election, so if you want to skip right to the baseball, jump to the 45 minute mark. We didn't exactly hold back, so if you're oversaturated with it, feel free to skip this week. The Royals made some decisions on mutual options and other contract situations this week and we discussed who might return, and, in light of Greg Holland's recent workout, we lumped him in with some of the newly-determined free agents. We also talked about some of the players who'll be free agents after 2017 who might get traded this offseason (but probably only one and probably not even that).Follow the Vault at @KCBaseballVault. Episode 2 of the 2015 season… honestly, not much to talk about. But we somehow filled up 45 minutes with nonsense and misinformation. There was even talk about BJ Upton’s name change. Closerpocalypse is upon us once again. We discuss a lot of Dodger news including the “big” injury to Kenley Jansen. We are relatively worried about this injury. Basically, we just don’t want to have to pay for Jansen when we could get someone cheaper in a later round. We have no idea who the replacement is but if you need a name, we went with Brandon League. Also in Dodger land, we discuss Greinke’s oiling his elbow. We discuss a bunch of deep league guys like Mike Moustakas, Billy Butler, and James Loney. Is Steven Souza legit? We wander around this question for a bit and about the Tampa Bay’s offense in general. We were struggling to talk about anything. The Royals offense has sputtered and some players are showing signs of wear.We talked about the remaining series against Detroit, the expanded rosters, tried to do some schedule math (we failed - that suspended game crosses everyone's wires...) and talked about the impact of Danny Duffy's injury. We also looked at what options exist to fill in for Duffy in his next start and the quick ascent of Brandon Finnegan. We also talked briefly about Lorenzo Cain in comparison to Jarrod Dyson. And now...we see what the Royals have left in the tank.
