Today's guest on the show is someone who I have recently connected with and started learning as much as I possibly can from: Louise O'Reilly. With her unique self-expression, heart-centered rebelliousness, and clarity of her thought-provoking vision of what the world could be enjoying, it's no wonder that Louise is a coach, consultant, blogger, speaker, and an online course creator. Louise is a Warrwa-Noongar woman who focuses on cultural inclusion, diversity and anti-racism work for people who support equality of Aboriginal people and culture and who want to learn and take action but aren't sure what to do to be an active ally. Offering online courses, live trainings, coaching, consultancy and speaking services in this field, Louise's dream is to stimulate co-creation of a more inclusive world, where everyone feels free to be their authentic self while knowing they are valued and belong. Her drive is her two children; her cheer-squad is her husband; and her inspiration is the calling from deep within her soul. Louise's teaching and coaching style is inclusive, compassionate and supportive. LouiseOReilly.com.au is where she blogs about Aboriginal human rights, inclusion and diversity creation, her culture, and life from the perspective of a fair-skinned Aboriginal woman. Outside of business Louise was freelance writing for Amnesty International, a Miss NAIDOC Perth finalist, a radio host and is part of an Australian first, Aboriginal-led visionary 10-year project designed to create social change and reconciliation in Boorloo (Perth). Louise is generously offering you, as a listener of the show, 20% off any of her courses or programs by entering the coupon code ‘theemilyosmondshow' at https://louise-oreilly.thinkific.com. I am at the very beginning of my learning about how I can make my business more inclusive, and how I can best voice the values I believe in and that I wish to show support of. I'm also at the very beginning of actually learning about Aboringinal culture and heritage. As you will hear in this episode, Louise was very patient and generous with me as I came to the conversation with very little knowledge to bring to the table. I am really grateful to Louise for sharing her time, her experiences and her knowledge and expertise with us. As you listen, please take a screenshot of the episode, share it to your Instagram Stories and tag Louise at @louise.oreilly.shieldandconch and myself at @emilyosmond so we know that you listened. The status quo is something Louise O'Reilly refuses to swallow. Providing online courses to stimulate harmonious and inclusive change in the world where every global citizen can say I'm #freetobeme. That's the big picture goal for her. For now, she's focusing on cultural diversity and inclusion of Aboriginal people and culture. Louise is a Warrwa-Noongar Aboriginal woman based in Boorloo (Perth, WA) on Wadjuk Country. Through her experiences with identity and her personal journey of self-discovery she realised society wasn't always accepting of her, her community of her culture. She noticed a real lack of Aboriginal Inclusiveness in Australia. And that they average Australian wasn't aware of the negative impacts that societal norms and social conditioning had on them, the Aboriginal community, or other BIPOC (Black, Indigenous & People of Colour) communities around the world. She witnesses the absence of Aboriginal perspectives in the world of words and language, so she started to write. Writing blogs about Aboriginal people, culture and history through the eyes of an Aboriginal person. With the intention of connecting person-to-person, heart-to-heart to elicit feelings of connectedness and unity as people of the Earth. And providing a new way of looking at our similarities and out differences with acceptance and love. Louise has generously offered listeners 25% off her Culturally Inclusive Language online course with the code realrebel25 https://ascension-personal-development-academy.thinkific.com/courses/culturally-inclusive-language You can find Louise here: https://www.facebook.com/AscensionPersonalDevelopment/ Please follow me on the socials https://www.instagram.com/lucy_anne_lewis/ https://www.facebook.com/lucyannelewiscoach/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/thegoodenoughgang/ www.lucyannelewis.com.au This episode was brought to you by my 4 Step Self Love Starter Kit here: https://view.flodesk.com/pages/5e9e4636c4b9d10027ed343b Music by Alex Elbery. https://www.facebook.com/AlexElbery/
When I invited Louise O'Reilly to teach a class on culturally inclusive writing to my copywriting crew, I knew what a talent she was. We’d originally met through a businesswomen's online group for women in WA and once had a fiery Messenger debate about labels, back in 2015. Since then, Louise has continued to question labels, perspectives, tone, and narrative, through her work on human rights and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, on radio, and through her consultancy. She’s a natural-born writer and speaker with a specific flair for moving a reader from curious to powered with knowledge and fired up to do something with it.Louise is a Warrwa-Noongar Aboriginal woman based in Boorloo (Perth, Western Australia). Through her experiences with identity and self-discovery, she realised society wasn't always accepting of her, her community or her culture. In this episode, Louise is with us to have a bit of a chat about culturally inclusive language, especially in the words we write.Specific appreciation to Louise who helped me with the Acknowledgement of Country in this episode, meaning for the first time it's spoken, not just living in words on my website.
